Editorial by G. d'A.: Dear reader, as a webmaster also I constantly have to guard the read-ability of the 'Cryfreedom'-outlet and sometimes decisions need to be made to have it be for your convenience and moreso in total support of the women-led revolt in Iran which inevitably will be a grand Victory. Still, choices must be made always and so I've decided to, for now, embed all the actual news about the 'NO-hijab; 'Biological terror attscks against schoolgirls'; 'Iranian journalists under siege'; 'Blinding as a weapon' and 'The hanging spree' as part of the 'Actual news' updates of the Iran 'Woman, Life, Freedom' section. Pakhshan Azizi
Hengaw Organisation for Human Right - 9 Sept 2024
<<Twenty-Six Human Rights Organizations Demand Immediate Cancellation of Pakhshan Azizi's Death Sentence
The Hengaw Organization for Human Rights, along with twenty-five other human rights organizations, has issued a joint statement condemning the death sentence of Pakhshan Azizi. In the statement, they collectively demand the immediate and unconditional cancellation of Azizi's death sentence and call for her release.
The full text of the statement is as follows:
Joint Statement of Human Rights Organizations Condemning the Death Sentence of Pakhshan Azizi:
We Demand the Immediate and Unconditional Revocation of Pakhshan Azizi's Death Sentence and Her Release.
We, the undersigned human rights organizations, express our deep concern and strong objection to the situation of all political prisoners in the Islamic Republic of Iran who are sentenced to or at risk of being sentenced to death, and we fundamentally oppose this inhumane and cruel punishment for all individuals. We strongly condemn the issuance of the Iranian judiciary’s death sentence for Pakhshan Azizi, a Kurdish woman activist and social aid worker. This sentence is not only a blatant violation of human rights principles and standards, as well as international conventions and treaties, but also a clear manifestation of the systematic repression of freedom of expression and the right to life in the Islamic Republic of Iran.
Pakhshan Azizi, who has consistently worked to raise public awareness, support women's rights, and achieve social justice both during and after her student years as a social worker, is now facing this cruel punishment due to her efforts in defending basic human rights and fundamental freedoms.
From the very first moments of her arrest, which was accompanied by violence from Islamic Republic security forces, she was subjected to torture-including months of solitary confinement without the right to meet with her family or access to a lawyer—in order to extract forced confessions and fabricate a case against her. The outcome of such a process can never lead to justice, and Pakhshan was later sentenced to death in a completely unfair judicial process, deprived of the fundamental rights that every prisoner should have. As a political prisoner, Pakhshan is charged with "rebellion" and sentenced to the death penalty despite denying any involvement in armed operations. Her lawyers have also clearly stated: "Ms. Azizi not only did not participate in any armed operations, but she was also in Iraq and Syria for seven years. Due to ISIS atrocities, she had to move to refugee camps in the Rojava region of Syria in 2015, where she was helping refugees and victims because she was a social worker. Even in her sentencing, there is no mention of any military operations or conflict involving Ms. Azizi with any government or non-governmental entity in Iran."
The undersigned human rights organizations demand the revocation of Pakhshan Azizi's death sentence and her immediate and unconditional release. This sentence is not just a threat to the life of a civil and social activist, it is also a clear and unlawful attempt by the Iranian government to retaliate against supporters of the "Jin, Jiyan, Azadi" (Women, Life, Freedom) uprising, suppress peaceful dissent, and continue the systematic violation of women's rights in Iran.
We also call on the international community-the UN, governments worldwide, and human rights organizations-to take immediate and effective action, to express their protest against this unjust death sentence against Ms. Azizi, condemn the executions in Iran that are carried out without due process or fair trials, and to address the severe and widespread violations of human rights by the Islamic Republic government. The global community should use all legal, political, and diplomatic mechanisms and capacities to prevent the issuance and execution of such inhumane sentences by Iran's judiciary.
It is evident that the continued oppressive measures and issuance of heavy sentences, such as the death penalty for political and social activists, perpetuate the cycle of violence and human rights violations and increase the existing multifaceted discrimination and repression in Iran. Therefore, decisive and practical steps must be taken to halt this trend.
The undersigned human rights organizations firmly believe that the judicial process in the Islamic Republic is completely unjust and discriminatory, and therefore all death sentences must be immediately revoked.
While emphasizing the urgent need for the immediate revocation of Pakhshan Azizi's death sentence and all other death sentences in Iran, we call for increased pressure on Iran's judiciary by the global community, international human rights organizations, concerned citizens worldwide, and civil activists inside and outside Iran. Only through the synergy of forces and effective practical measures can we stop the systematic repression and unlawful punishments in Iran, and the Islamic Republic's killing machine.

<<Iranian Football Coach's Death Penalty Overturned in Sex Abuse Case
Iran has overturned the death sentence initially handed down to a football coach accused of sexually harassing multiple teenage students. The Islamic Republic's judicial system has revised the sentence to lashing and exile. The case began in 2021 when a father approached the police with his teenage son, filing a complaint of sexual harassment against the boy's football coach. In the days that followed, similar complaints against the coach multiplied, eventually involving eight boys aged between 12 and 14. The accused brought these minors to his house under the pretext of football training and abused them. Initial forensic examinations confirmed the sexual abuse allegations, leading to a death sentence in the first court hearing. However, the coach's lawyer contested the verdict, resulting in the case being sent for re-examination. During the second court session, forensic experts revised their assessment. They reported that while abuse had happened, <it did not constitute rape.> This new finding led to the coach's death sentence being overturned. The case was then heard in the fifth branch of the criminal court in Tehran province. The proceedings were conducted behind closed doors, where the accused defended himself and denied the charges of molesting teenage boys. Taking into account the revised forensic report, the court has now sentenced the accused to 99 lashes, two years of exile to a region with harsh weather conditions in the southeast of the country, and a two-year ban from sports and coaching activities.>>

Sara Deldar
Iranwire - September 9, 2024
<<Iranian Woman Dies from Injuries Sustained During 2022 Protests
A detainee from the 2022 nationwide protests in Iran has died from infections caused by shotgun wounds, reports say. According to the Hyrcani Human Rights Organization, Sara Deldar was shot with pellets by the Islamic Republic's forces during the 2022 protests in northern Rasht while helping injured protesters. Manoto's website also quoted a source close to Deldar, stating that she was arrested for her social media activities, and during interrogation, government agents discovered the pellets in her body. Deldar was sentenced to one year, three months, and six days in Lakan prison in Rasht by the judicial system. After serving six months, she was released on parole. In her last Instagram post on July 21, Deldar revealed that she had developed an infection after being released from prison and was hospitalized. She also mentioned that other prisoners released from Lakan prison in Rasht were struggling with similar health issues. Weak physical strength, severe anemia, and kidney and ovary problems were among the conditions Deldar cited in her final social media post. IranWire has not independently confirmed reports about the cause of Sara Deldar's death.
According to reports, on the eve of the second anniversary of the 2022 protests, security forces pressured Deldar's family to keep her death private.
As a result, her funeral was attended by only a small number of family members.>>

JINA FOREVER
Iranwire - September 9, 2024
<<Iran Continues Arrests Ahead of Mahsa Amini's Death Anniversary
The Islamic Republic's security forces have arrested four more people in Kurdish towns ahead of the second anniversary of Mahsa Amini's death.
The Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) intelligence forces arrested Kurdish citizens in the Divandarreh district of Kurdistan Province on Sunday morning. They were forcibly arrested without search or arrest warrants, and their homes were subsequently searched by IRGC intelligence agents.
The four confirmed detainees include 39-year-old Mohammad Amini and Navid Sharifi from the village of Kani Sefid, Farhad Qamari from Kotak, and Fouad Moradi from Kileh Kabud, according to Hengaw human rights organization. According to IranWire sources, at least 14 civil activists, artists, and family members of those killed during the 2022 uprising have been detained in the Kurdish towns in recent days. Previously reported arrests include Siavash Soltani, son of victim Kobra Sheikheh, and 16-year-old Ramyar Abubakri, brother of another victim of the crackdown on 2022 protests, Zaniar Abubakri. A source told IranWire that these arrests are part of a wider suppression campaign targeting dissidents, civil activists, and families of those who died during a crackdown on the 2022 protests. Amini, a 22-year-old Kurdish woman, died in the custody of Iran's morality police after being detained for wearing her hijab <improperly>. Her death sparked nationwide protests, which became known as the "Woman, Life, Freedom" movement.>>

Three women prisoners
Iranwire - September 9, 2024
<<Three Women Prisoners in Iran Strike Against Treatment in Jail
Three women political prisoners in Tehran's Evin prison have gone on hunger and medicine strikes to protest their conditions and treatment.
Sarvenaz Ahmadi, a children's rights activist, began a medicine strike on September 7. Despite suffering from mental health issues and her doctor's insistence on proper medical care, authorities have denied her request for a medical leave. Ahmadi was arrested on April 27 along with several union and labor activists and subsequently sentenced to three years and six months in prison. Parivash Muslimi has been on hunger strike since September 3, protesting restrictions on phone calls and family visits, according to the HRANA human rights website. Imprisoned since July in the women's ward of Evin, Muslimi has been reportedly denied in-person family meetings. She was sentenced in August to a total of three years and eight months on charges including assembly and collusion, insulting leadership, and propaganda against the Islamic Republic. Hora Nikbakht, a publisher, editor, and women's rights activist, joined the strikes on September 7. She is also protesting limitations on family contact and visits. Nikbakht has been detained since June 12.>>

Fatemeh Sepehari
Iranwire - September 9, 2024
<<Ailing Political Prisoner's Brother Highlights Medical Neglect in Jail
Asghar Sepehari, brother of political prisoner Fatemeh Sepehari, has voiced concerns about his sister's deteriorating health conditions in prison.
Incarcerated in Mashhad, Fatemeh Sepehari is suffering from a high and irregular heart rate, along with chest and back pain, according to her brother. Sepehari's last cardiac examination was on May 1, with recommendations for quarterly check-ups. However, prison authorities have denied her requests for medical leave despite her worsening condition. "Currently, my sister is suffering from high and irregular heartbeat as well as chest and back pain," Asghar Sepehari said. He said an orthopedic specialist had prescribed ten physiotherapy sessions for his sister's hands, but she has only been allowed to attend two sessions so far. The outspoken pro-democracy advocate was arrested in Mashhad on September 12, 2022, following protests sparked by the death of Mahsa Amini in police custody. She was subsequently sentenced to 18 years and six months in prison by the Revolutionary Court in Mashhad on charges including <assembly and collusion,> <insulting (Supreme Leader) Khamenei,> and <propaganda activity against the Islamic Republic.> She is one of the 14 signatories of a 2019 statement calling for Iran's Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei's resignation, the abolition of the Islamic Republic, and the establishment of a secular government.>>

Mother Decries
Iranwire - September 9, 2024
<<Mother Decries Slow Justice After Morality Police Beat Teen Girl
The mother of a teenage girl beaten by Iran's Morality Police officers has voiced her frustration with the slow pace of justice. "My lawyer and I have been going back and forth for two and a half months, and our complaint has yet to go anywhere," Maryam Abbasi, the mother of teenager Nafas Haji Sharif, told Etemad newspaper. She contrasted this delay with the swift action taken when a female agent claimed her finger was dislocated, saying, "They immediately set up a hearing for her." The mother detailed her efforts to seek justice through official channels. "I immediately complained to all legal agencies," she said, listing various departments within the Islamic Republic's police. Abbasi emphasized that her goal in pursuing the case is to show her daughter that the law should protect all citizens, regardless of their position or attire. "I don't want my child to be afraid of her country," she said. The 14-year-old Nafas was beaten up by Iran's notorious Morality Police tasked with enforcing strict dress codes on women.
Persian-speaking social media users have expressed anger and dismay over the treatment of the teenager. Many called on President Masoud Pezeshkian to honor his campaign pledges to end such confrontations. During his presidential campaign, Pezeshkian repeatedly criticized the Morality Police and its treatment of Iranian women and girls for not adhering to mandatory hijab laws. Since April 13, Iran's law enforcement agencies have intensified the enforcement of hijab regulations under the national action plan <Noor.> Across Iran, there have been numerous reports of women being arrested and subjected to the use of force due to perceived violations of dress codes. Users across social networks are participating in a spontaneous campaign using the hashtag "war against women" to document their experiences and observations regarding the government's crackdown on the opponents of mandatory hijab.>>

Toomaj Salehi
Iranwire - September 9, 2024
<<Jailed Iranian Rapper Needs Urgent Care; Lawyers Demand Release
The official X page of Toomaj Salehi, the imprisoned Iranian rapper, has issued an urgent plea for his medical treatment, accusing Iranian authorities of "silent torture" against the artist. The statement, posted on September 8, highlights Salehi's critical need for medical attention due to injuries sustained during his detention. According to the post, Salehi suffered broken bones in his leg and fingers as a result of torture by intelligence agents in Isfahan. These injuries were exacerbated by neglect during solitary confinement and lack of timely medical care, leading to improper healing and bone misalignment. The X page states that despite initial medical examinations emphasizing the urgent need for surgery on Salehi's leg, and warnings that delays could result in permanent damage, authorities denied him medical treatment for 51 days. This happened despite multiple official requests to the court for medical assistance. Salehi's lawyers are calling for his immediate release, noting that there is currently no active arrest warrant in his case. They argue that the judiciary's only justification for his continued detention is a one-year prison sentence, for which Salehi has already served nearly two years, including pre-sentencing detention time. Salehi was initially arrested in October 2022 after voicing support for the nationwide "Woman, Life, Freedom" protests that had erupted the previous month. He released songs criticizing the government and supporting the protests that demanded more freedom and women's rights. Iranian authorities acquitted Salehi of the most severe charges against him last month, including <corruption on Earth,> which had previously resulted in him getting the death sentence. The decision overturned the death sentence handed down to Salehi in April for the charge of <corruption on earth.> >>

Borujerd Prison
NCRI - Womens committee - 8 Sept 2024 - in Women's News
<<Inhumane Conditions for Female Inmates in Borujerd Prison
Borujerd Prison, located in Borujerd City within the Lorestan Province of Iran, has been reported to subject its female inmates to severe neglect, especially regarding medical care. Samad Heydari Chagani, the prison's warden, has been appointed through connections with Hamid Alqasi Mehr and Abdulhamid Keshvari (Director General of Lorestan Prisons) and Amin Alqasi Mehr (Deputy of Finance and Administration of Lorestan Prisons). Samad Heydari Chagani has been criticized for denying medical treatment to female prisoners.
Location and Conditions
Borujerd Prison is situated in the Mokhaberat district, on Tharallah Boulevard, 18th Banafsha Street. The prison lacks basic medical facilities, exacerbating the suffering of inmates like Salemi. Reports describe the conditions as "hellish," a reflection of the broader human rights abuses under Iran’s current regime.
Case Study: Arezoo Salemi
Arezoo Salemi, a 33-year-old mother of two, has been incarcerated in Borujerd Prison for the past three years on charges of drug trafficking alongside her husband. Suffering from kidney stones and severe dental pain, Salemi's requests for medical treatment outside the prison have been repeatedly denied. In one instance, Warden Chagani reportedly told her, <We do not take female prisoners out, even if you die from the pain.> The case of Arezoo Salemi in Borujerd Prison highlights the broader issues faced by female inmates in Iran. Denied essential medical care and subjected to inhumane conditions, these women are often left to suffer in silence. Greater awareness and international advocacy are crucial in addressing these human rights violations and improving the lives of those imprisoned in Iran.>>

Behzad Khosravi
Hengaw Organisation for Human Right - 8 Sept 2024
<<Behzad Khosravi's Family: Our Son Has Not Been Released and Was Forced to Confess in Iranian Intelligence Detention Center In Sanandaj
Several days after the news of Behzad Khosravi's arrest and extradition-a Kurdish political activist and resident of Sulaymaniyah, Kurdistan Region of Iraq-by the security forces (Asaysh) to Iran, an Instagram account under his name has started posting, sharing a video of his forced confessions.
In the video, where only the sky is visible and the recording location is unknown, Behzad Khosravi appears in the uniform of the company he worked for in Sulaymaniyah. He states, "I didn't have permission to stay in Iraqi Kurdistan, and the KDPI didn't cooperate with me. So I went to the Asayish forces and asked them to return me to Iran. They took me to the border, and I returned to Iran on my own, and now I am free." Hengaw contacted Khosravi's family for further information, and they denied the news of his release. They confirmed that he remains detained at the Iranian Intelligence Detention Center in Sanandaj and that under pressure from this security agency, he was forced to read a pre-written statement and record the video. It is worth noting that the Instagram account, which was created today under Behzad Khosravi's name and is managed by the Sanandaj Intelligence Agency, has gained nearly 800 followers, 90% of whom are fake accounts with Persian names and have recently joined the platform. Behzad Khosravi, a 35-year-old Kurdish political activist from Saqqez, is a member of the Democratic Party of Iranian Kurdistan and an officially recognized refugee by the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR). He was summoned by the Sulaymaniyah Asayish two weeks ago, arrested, and without his family's knowledge, extradited to Iran last Saturday, where he was handed over to Iranian Intelligence.
Following the media coverage of the case by Hengaw, the Sulaymaniyah Asayish issued an official statement, claiming that after Khosravi's arrest in one of Sulaymaniyah's streets, they discovered that he was not a political figure, his residency permit had expired, and he requested to be returned to Iran, which they facilitated. The following day, the public relations office of the Democratic Party of Iranian Kurdistan issued an official statement, clarifying that Behzad Khosravi had been a member of the party for ten years and that he had a valid residency permit. Additionally, Khosravi's residency card, a copy of which was provided to Hengaw, shows that he had at least three more months of valid residency in Iraqi Kurdistan, after which he could have applied for a one-year renewal.>>

Behzad Khosravi
Hengaw Organisation for Human Right - 7 Sept 2024
<<Disabled Kurdish Political Activist Arrested and Extraditioned to Iran by the Security Forces of the Iraqi Kurdistan Regional Government
Last week, the security forces of the Kurdistan Region of Iraq in Sulaymaniyah arrested a disabled Kurdish political activist from Saqqez, identified as Behzad Khosravi, who is a member of the Democratic Party of Iranian Kurdistan (PDKI) and an officially registered refugee with the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR). He was reportedly subjected to severe torture before being handed over to Iranian security forces.
According to a report received by the Hengaw Organization for Human Rights, last week, forces from the Asayish (security agency) of the Kurdistan Region of Iraq arrested 35-year-old political activist Behzad Khosravi in Sulaymaniyah. After subjecting him to severe torture, they handed him over to the Iranian security forces. A source informed Hengaw that on Sunday, September 1, 2024, the Iranian Intelligence Office in Sanandaj contacted Behzad Khosravi’s brother, informing him that his brother is being held by this agency. Additionally, since Behzad's arrest, his mother, Hadigheh Hosseini, and his sister, Begard Khosravi, have not received any information about his fate. The Asayish in Sulaymaniyah reportedly told them that Behzad was detained for publishing photos of the leaders of the Democratic Party of Iranian Kurdistan. Hengaw has learned that the Asayish in Sulaymaniyah has intensified pressure on Behzad Khosravi's family, giving his mother and sister, who are also members of the Democratic Party and officially registered refugees with the UNHCR, a 10-day deadline to leave the Sulaymaniyah area. It is worth noting that the extradition of this political activist to the Islamic Republic of Iran violates international law, as no country has the right to deport a refugee who is an officially registered member of the UNHCR to their country of origin, even if they are accused of committing a crime.>>

Yasra Aref
NCRI - Womens committee - 6 Sept 2024 - in Women's News
<<Yasra Aref, an Afghan Woman, and Her Infant Face Inhuman Conditions in Iran's Evin Prison
Yasra Aref, a 25-year-old Afghan national, has been imprisoned in Tehran's Evin Prison along with her eight-month-old infant since April 2024.
Detained since early 2024, the mother and child have been subjected to harsh and unsuitable conditions, raising significant concerns about their health and well-being. The dire situation of this mother and her child is emblematic of broader issues within the Iranian regime’s treatment of detainees. Yasra Aref and her husband were arrested by Iranian security forces in Pakistan when their child was just two months old. Following their arrest, Yasra and her baby were transferred to Iran, where they spent five months in a solitary confinement cell with a locked window, depriving them of adequate ventilation and sunlight. On August 7, 2024, when the child was seven months old, they were moved to the women's ward of Evin Prison. Despite the transfer, the prison environment remains extremely unsuitable for an infant, exposing the child to various health risks, including malnutrition and psychological stress. This is particularly concerning since a flu-like virus has recently spread in the women’s ward while there is no quarantine facility to separate the sick inmates. As of the time this report was prepared, no official charges have been brought against Yasra Aref, and she remains in legal limbo, with her fate and that of her child uncertain. Yasra has been denied the right to contact her family. The whereabouts of her husband is not known. The conditions under which Yasra Aref and her baby are being held highlight significant violations of both children's and mothers' rights. The continued uncertainty surrounding their case, coupled with the inadequate conditions in which they are forced to live, has raised serious concerns about their health and future.>>
