<<Arslan Sohrabi, Kurdish Political Prisoner, Re-Arrested One Month
After Release
Arslan Sohrabi (Khodkam), a Kurdish political prisoner from Mahabad, who
was released from Urmia Central Prison in July 2024 after serving six
years and two months, has recently been arrested again following a

Mahabad, was arrested after being summoned to the Iranian Intelligence

unexpectedly suspended by the Iranian Military Prosecutor's Office in
Tehran, without prior notice. The 50-year-old political prisoner had
been released from Urmia Central Prison on Friday, July 5, 2024, as
announced by prison officials. It is worth mentioning that Arslan
Sohrabi was sent on short-term leave on Tuesday, March 12, 2024, after
serving five years and ten months and 19 days, in prison. In August
2018, Arslan Sohrabi was sentenced to death by Branch 32 of the Iranian
Military Court in Urmia on charges of espionage for the Democratic Party
of Iranian Kurdistan. This sentence was later reduced to life
imprisonment by invoking Article 20 of the Amnesty and Clemency
Commission, and the revised sentence was officially communicated to him
on Wednesday, April 14, 2021. On Monday, April 23, 2018, while serving
as a member of the Iranian Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) and on a
mission in Oshnavieh, Sohrabi was arrested on charges of collaboration

Shiva Kashani-Nejad and Mozhgan Samimi
Hengaw Organisation for Human Right - 5 Sept 2024
<<Iran Sentences Two Baha'i Women to Imprisonment and Additional
Punishment
Two Baha'i women residing in Rasht, Shiva Kashani-Nejad and Mozhgan
Samimi, have been sentenced by the judicial system of the Islamic
Republic of Iran to two years and one day in prison, along with
additional penalties. According to a report received by the Hengaw
Organization for Human Rights, both Shiva Kashani-nejad and Mozhgan
Samimi were sentenced by the 3rd branch of the Rasht Revolutionary
Court, presided over by Judge Mehdi Raskhi, for the charge of
educational activities and promoting matters related to the Baha'i
faith. In addition to their prison sentences, both women were fined 80
million and 10 thousand tomans each and deprived of their social rights
for five years and one day as supplementary punishment. This verdict was
communicated to their lawyers on August 17, 2024. Shiva Kashani-nejad
and Mozhgan Samimi were arrested in July 2023 during a raid on their
home by security forces. During the raid, security forces confiscated
personal belongings, including mobile phones, books, and even children's
storybooks. It is worth noting that in May of last year, Anisa Sami'yan,
the son of Shiva Kashani-nejad, and Wasal Mumtazi, her son-in-law, were
sentenced to a total of 9 years and 6 months in prison by the same
judge, Mehdi Raskhi, due to their belief in the Baha'i religion.>>

NCRI - Womens committee - 5 Sept 2024 - in Statements
<<Outbreak of a Virus in Women's Ward of Evin Prison and Lack of Medical
Care
According to reports, a flu-like virus has recently spread in the
women's ward of Evin Prison, infecting a large number of female
political prisoners. The condition of some prisoners with underlying
diseases has been reported as critical. These include political
prisoners Marzieh Farsi, who suffers from cancer, and Fatemeh Ziaii, who
has multiple sclerosis. Prison guards have not only failed to provide
any medical care to combat this disease but have also failed to provide
facilities to quarantine infected patients. The Women's Committee of the
National Council of Resistance of Iran calls on international human
rights and women’s rights advocates to take urgent action to release
female political prisoners, especially the sick, and to provide them
with medical access and treatment.

<<Civilian Dies Due to Torture by Iranian Security Forces in Gilan Gharb
A civilian identified as 'A. M.' lost his life due to torture by the
Islamic Republic of Iran's security forces, one day after being detained
at the Gilan Gharb police detention center. This individual had been
arrested on charges of involvement in the intentional killing of another
citizen. According to a report received by Hengaw Organization for Human
Rights, on Tuesday, September 3, 2024, a citizen identified as 'A. M.'
was arrested by the Islamic Republic of Iran's security forces and died
due to torture in the Gilan Gharb detention center on September 4, just
one day after his arrest. The full identity of this individual is
currently under investigation. As reported by the state-run IRNA
website, Khodr Veysi, the Gilan Gharb Public and Revolutionary
Prosecutor, following the news of the detainee's death due to torture,
stated: <The deceased suspect, who had a history of multiple criminal
offenses and substance abuse, was the main suspect in the intentional
murder of another citizen. This individual had been placed under police
custody on Tuesday (September 3) by judicial order with appropriate
bail.> He also claimed that <Yesterday (September 4), this individual
became ill while being transferred for interrogation, and the efforts of
the police and hospital emergency personnel to resuscitate him were
unsuccessful, leading to his death. Initial investigations of the
detention site and an external examination of the body show, contrary to
claims made by hostile media, that the body bore no visible signs of
injury, and torture is ruled out.> Meanwhile, Hengaw's sources have
reported that the individual in question died due to torture by the
security forces, only one day after his arrest. This civilian was
arrested along with another man and a woman from Gilan Gharb.
According to statistics recorded by the Hengaw Organization for Human
Rights' Statistics and Documentation Center, including this case, at
least eight citizens have died under torture by the Islamic Republic of
Iran's security forces since the beginning of 2024.>>

Saeedeh Shafiei
Iranwire - Sept 5, 2024
<<Iranian Journalist Faces Prison Amid Health Issues
Iranian writer and journalist Saeedeh Shafiei is set to begin a
three-and-a-half-year prison term at Tehran's notorious Evin prison this
Friday, despite ongoing health concerns. The development comes despite
an earlier postponement of the sentence due to her health issues.
Shafiei said on her X account, "I will be taken to prison for the third
time on Friday." The journalist said that her prison sentence had been
suspended since March 1. However, she noted that despite no improvement
in her health condition, "the new decision of the forensic medicine and
judicial authorities is to return me to prison." The journalist added,
"This is [my] another birthday in the middle of September and the
beginning of my 42nd year." The sentencing stems from a ruling by Branch
26 of the Tehran Revolutionary Court, presided over by Judge Iman
Afshari, in September 2024.
Shafiei was charged with, <propaganda against the Islamic Republic,>
resulting in seven months and 16 days of imprisonment, and <assembly and
collusion,> leading to a three-year and six-month sentence. According to
Islamic Penal Codes, the longer sentence will be applicable in her case.
She faces additional punishments, including a two-year ban on membership
in political and social groups and a two-year travel ban.>>

Suleiman Choupani
Iranwire - Sept 5, 2024
<<Iran Arrests Kurdish Activists Ahead of 2022 Uprising Anniversary
Security forces in Iran's Kurdish-speaking areas have intensified their
crackdown on civil activists and families of protest victims as the
second anniversary of the Woman, Life, Freedom movement nears. The
latest in a string of arrests is Suleiman Choupani, a Kurdish citizen
detained without a judicial warrant in Piranshahr on Thursday, according
to Kurdistan Human Rights Network. The arrest is part of a broader wave
of suppression sweeping across West Azerbaijan province. According to
IranWire sources, at least eight civil activists, artists, and family
members of those killed during the 2022 uprising have been detained in
Kurdish towns. The arrests, carried out without court orders and
involving violence, appear to be preemptive measures as the anniversary
of Mahsa Amini's death approaches. In 2022, Amini's death after being
arrested by Iran's Morality Police sparked the nationwide Woman, Life,
Freedom movement.
Jina Amini
Previously reported arrests include Siavash Soltani, son of victim Kobra
Sheikheh, and 16-year-old Ramyar Abubakri, brother of another victim of
the crackdown on 2022 protests, Zaniar Abubakri. The whereabouts and
health status of these detainees remain unknown. A source told IranWire
that these arrests are part of a wider suppression campaign targeting
dissidents, civil activists, and families seeking justice in West
Azerbaijan province.>>
