Shima Ramshek
Hengaw Organisation for Human Right - 30 August 2024
<<14-Year-Old Child Marriage Victim Shima Ramshek Commits Suicide in
Miandoab, Iran
Shima Ramshek, a 14-year-old girl from Bukan, tragically took her own
life after enduring prolonged dissatisfaction and pressure stemming from
a forced marriage. According to a report received by the Hengaw
Organization for Human Rights, on Wednesday, August 28, 2024, Shima
Ramshek, from the village of Shikhler in the district of Bukan,
committed suicide in the home she shared with her husband in the village
of Marjanabad, Miandoab. She died instantly. An informed source revealed
that Shima, a victim of child marriage, ended her life by hanging
herself at home. After 48 hours, on Friday, September 30, her body was
released to her family by the medical examiner. It is important to note
that Shima was forced into marriage with an adult man named Mansour
Jagan at the age of thirteen due to continuous family pressure.
The issue of child marriage has long been condemned by civil society and
human rights activists, as it violates the mental and physical
well-being of the child. Despite widespread social opposition, this
harmful practice persists, fueled by the intertwining of personal status
laws with religious customs and the lack of adequate judicial oversight.
This has led to a double infringement on the rights of women and
children, particularly in regions where such practices are prevalent.>>

<<Political Prisoner Faces Court for Prison Bedbugs Complaint
The court hearing for Zia Nabavi, a political prisoner held in Iran's
Evin Prison, took place on Wednesday via video conference in a fresh
case.
According to Nabavi's lawyer, the case was initiated following a
complaint from Evin Prison after Nabavi published a text about the
presence of bedbugs in the prison's Ward 8. Mustafa Nili, Nabavi's
lawyer, said that "on Wednesday, August 28, the first court session was
held on the charge of spreading false information. The complaint against
Nabavi was lodged by Evin Prison for his post regarding bedbugs in Ward
8. The court session was conducted via video conference, during which
Nabavi presented his defense," he said. Nili added, "My colleague, Amir
Raisian, and I, as his legal representatives, requested that the
proceedings continue in person in the next session so that he can
present his evidence to the court. We also requested that the presiding
judge personally inspect Ward 8 to verify our client's claim, which was
agreed upon." Nabavi is already serving a one-year sentence for
<propaganda against the Islamic Republic,> a charge stemming from his
protest against the serial poisoning of school students.
The sentence was upheld by the Tehran Court of Appeals in August 2023,
and Nabavi began serving it in April.
As many as 13,000 pupils reportedly suffered symptoms like nausea,
fainting, headaches, coughing, breathing difficulties, and heart
palpitations, with many requiring treatment at hospitals in late 2022
and early 2023. The attacks appeared to have targeted girls for their
involvement in the nationwide protests sparked by the September 2022
death of 22-year-old Mahsa Amini in police custody.>>

Baran Kosari and her mother director Rakhshan Banietemad
Iranwire - August 29, 2024
<<Iran Charges Female Director, Actor for Defying Hijab Mandate
Iranian authorities have filed court charges against two women, a
filmmaker and an actor, for not wearing the mandatory headscarf. Mizan
news agency, which is affiliated with the Islamic Republic's judiciary,
reported that the Tehran prosecutor filed charges against a female
director and an actor for appearing in public without observing the
mandatory hijab. While the agency did not name the individuals involved,
it reported that "a female director and her daughter attended a film
review meeting without wearing the hijab." As a result, a judicial case
has been opened against them in Tehran's General and Revolutionary
Court. It appears that the agency was referring to actor Baran Kosari
and her mother, director Rakhshan Banietemad, who attended the review
ceremony for the film "Someone is Always Lost" without the mandatory
hijab. Baran Kosari, one of the film's actors, was photographed at the
event without her hijab alongside her mother. These images, later shared
on the Cinema Honar Instagram page, got attention from users.>>

Yekta Mirzaei and Reyhaneh
NCRI - Womens committee - 28 August 2024 - in Women's News
<<University Students, Yekta Mirzaei and Reyhaneh Ebrahim-Vandi Face
Suspensions
Two students from prominent Iranian universities, Yekta Mirzaei of
Tehran University and Reyhaneh Ebrahimi Vandi of Al-Zahra University,
have been temporarily suspended from their studies following
disciplinary actions taken by their respective institutions.
Yekta Mirzaei
Yekta Mirzaei, a sociology student at Tehran University, was sentenced
to a two-semester suspension by the university's disciplinary committee.
The decision was made on the grounds that she had violated the
university’s dress code by failing to observe the mandatory hijab,
disrespected student conduct guidelines, and allegedly insulted national
or Islamic values. Of the two semesters, one will be enforced
immediately, while the other is suspended. Mirzaei publicly shared the
details of her suspension on her X account, bringing attention to the
reasons behind the committee's ruling.
Reyhaneh Ebrahim-Vandi
Similarly, Reyhaneh Ebrahim-Vandi, a counseling student admitted in 2021
at Al-Zahra University, was also given a two-semester suspension, which
will be counted toward her academic years. The disciplinary committee's
decision was based on accusations of <causing chaos and disturbance on
campus and spreading false information.> In addition to this suspension,
Reyhaneh Ebrahim-Vandi had previously been barred from entering the
university last semester without due process, receiving only an oral
notification and no formal written ruling. Despite her efforts to seek
clarity, university officials have yet to provide a clear explanation
for their actions. These cases highlight the ongoing tensions between
students and university authorities in Iran, particularly regarding
issues of student conduct and the enforcement of strict regulations.>>

Mobina Zainivand
Hengaw Organisation for Human Right - 28 August 2024
<<17-Year-Old Girl Killed by Father in Ilam Province in So-Called
'Honor' Killing
A 17-year-old girl from Darreh Shahr city, Ilam province, identified as
Mobina Zainivand, was killed by her father under the pretext of <honor.>
According to a report received by the Hengaw Organization for Human
Rights, on the morning of Monday, August 26, 2024, Mobina Zainivand,
from the village of Gorz-e Langar in the Majin district of Darreh Shahr
city, was killed by her father, Rahim Khan, aged 56, who used a shotgun
to commit the crime in their home. An informed source indicated that the
murder was motivated by <honor,> as Mobina was killed due to her
relationship with a teenage boy. The source added that Mobina's father
disapproved of the relationship due to family differences between the
two families, leading him to take his daughter's life. In government
media reports, the motive for this honor killing was once again vaguely
described as <family disputes.> The media also incorrectly reported
Mobina's age as 18, whereas Hengaw's follow-up confirmed that she was 17
years old. The father was reportedly arrested hours after committing the
crime. Under Article 612 of the Islamic Penal Code, anyone who commits
intentional murder and lacks a complainant, or whose complainant waives
retribution, may be sentenced to imprisonment from three to ten years if
the crime causes a disturbance in public order or threatens the safety
of society. This legal provision often results in minimal punishment for
perpetrators of honor killings, particularly when committed by fathers,
brothers, or husbands.>>

<<Iran Special Unit Forces Kill a Gilaki Civilian Under Torture
Seyyed Mohammad Mirmousavi, a young Gilaki from Lahijan, Gilan Province,
was killed under torture in the detention center of the Special Unit of
the Law Enforcement Force of the Islamic Republic of Iran after being
arrested. The family of this young man has been pressured by Iranian
security agencies to refrain from making this crime public. According to
a report received by Hengaw Organization for Human Rights, on Saturday,
August 24, 2024, Seyyed Mohammad Mirmousavi, a resident of Seyyed
Mahalleh village in the Rudbeneh district of Lahijan, died on the same
day due to severe torture by the Law Enforcement Force at one of
Langarud's police stations, following his arrest during a conflict. A
video released showing the body of this young victim of systemic
violence within the forces of the Islamic Republic of Iran reveals he
was severely beaten and suffered from bleeding. According to one of
those who washed his body, security forces pierced two areas of his body
in the back and waist while torturing him. Another person present in the
video states that the security forces tortured and beat this young man
while his hands and feet were tied. According to Hengaw sources,
following this state-sanctioned killing, Iranian security agencies,
especially the Langarud Prosecutor's Office in Gilan Province, have
threatened the family of this young victim, warning them against
disseminating information and providing news details about his murder.
The Public and Revolutionary Prosecutor of Lahijan announced today,
Wednesday, August 28, without mentioning the identity of Seyyed Mohammad
Mirmousavi, that there has been news of the <suspicious death of a

Hengaw Organisation for Human Right - 28 August 2024
<<Ongoing Detention and Uncertain Fate of Nasim Gholami Simiyari,
Prisoner Accused of <Armed Rebellion> in Evin Prison
Nasim Gholami Simiyari, a political prisoner held in the women's ward of
Evin Prison, has been detained without a clear resolution for over 15
months. She faces the risk of harsh sentences from the Iranian judiciary
due to the charges against her, including <Baghi> (armed rebellion).
According to a report received by the Hengaw Organization for Human
Rights, Nasim Gholami Simiyari, 36, originally from Alamut in Qazvin
Province and residing in Tehran, was arrested by security forces on May
18, 2023, in a street in Tehran. She remains in a state of uncertainty
in Tehran's Evin Prison. Sources familiar with the case say that,
despite 447 days since her arrest, only two court sessions have been
held for Nasim Gholami Simiyari, with no ruling issued by Judge Iman
Afshari. Given the charges against her, she is at risk of facing severe
sentences. After her arrest, She was initially transferred to Ward 1-A
of the IRGC for two months, where she was held in solitary confinement
and subjected to interrogation. During this period, she endured physical
and psychological torture and was forced to make confessions on camera.
Subsequently, she was moved to Ward 2-A and eventually transferred to
the women's ward of Evin Prison on September 26, 2023. It is noteworthy
that after five months of detention in Evin's Prosecutor's Office, Nasim
Gholami Simiyari was charged by investigator Naser Jalayer Sarteghi with
crimes such as <assembly and collusion,> <propaganda against the
government,> and <Baghi.> Last November, she went on a two-week hunger
strike to protest her uncertain situation.

Hossein Kooshki Nejad
Iranwire - August 28, 2024
<<Prisoner with Severe Knee Injury Denied Treatment in Tehran
Iranian authorities have denied medical treatment to a prisoner with a
severe illness, human rights sources reported. Hossein Kooshki Nejad, a
political prisoner currently incarcerated in Tehran's Evin Prison, is
facing a deteriorating health situation as his requests for external
medical treatment continue to be denied. HRANA human rights organization
reported that Kooshki Nejad is suffering from a meniscus tear in his
knee, a condition that doctors have emphasized requires surgical
intervention. Despite submitting multiple written requests for transfer
to a hospital, prison authorities have consistently rejected these
appeals, leaving him without access to necessary medical care. Kooshki
Nejad, 35, was arrested on April 7 to serve a one-year sentence. He was
subsequently transferred to Ward 8 of Evin Prison, a facility notorious
for housing political prisoners. The current sentence stems from legal
charges Kooshki Nejad faced last year in Khorramabad's Prosecutor's
Office. The case, which accused him of <propaganda activities against

<<Power Cuts Lead to Protests in Iran's Industrial Areas
Recent continuous power outages in industrial towns around Tehran have
led to street protests. Mehdi Bostanchi, head of the Coordination
Council of Industrial Towns, reported that demonstrations took place in
Khavaran Industrial Town, Tehran's largest industrial zone, following a
power cut on Monday. Bostanchi warned officials, "Don't cut off the
power to the industries. Small and medium industries in the towns are
dying." Iran's electricity imbalance rate has increased from 16 percent
last year to 22 percent this year, with warnings from the Iranian
Electricity Syndicate that the deficit could reach 37 percent within a
decade. The Ministry of Energy reports that 13 percent of the
electricity produced in the country is lost in the aging transmission
and distribution network. This is equivalent to 40 percent of Iran's
total household electricity consumption. Recent weeks have seen reports
of factory closures in Mashhad and shift reductions in Tehran's
industrial towns, some of which have been denied or corrected by

No to excecitions Tuesday
NCRI - Womens committee - 27 August 2024 - in Women's News
<<Global Support Grows for the No to Executions Campaign on Tuesdays in
its 31st Week
The No to Executions Campaign on Tuesdays, now in its 31st week,
continues to gain momentum as prisoners from the Greater Tehran Prison
join the movement, alongside two Italian Members of Parliament. The
campaign, which protests the increasing use of the death penalty in
Iran, has sparked both national and international support.
Growing Support Within Prisons
On Tuesday, August 27, 2024, prisoners from 19 different facilities
across Iran, including the Greater Tehran Prison, declared a hunger
strike in solidarity with the "No to Executions Campaign on Tuesdays."
The movement, which calls for the abolition of the death penalty and
torture, has seen participation from prisoners including from the
women's wards in Evin Prison in Tehran and Lakan Prison in Rasht. The
prisoners issued a statement expressing their determination to continue
their resistance against the oppressive measures of the Iranian regime.
They highlighted the severe repression faced by those who protest,
including restrictions on basic rights such as phone calls and family
visits, with notable instances such as the solitary confinement of
political prisoner Armita Paveer in Tabriz Prison.
International Solidarity
The campaign has not gone unnoticed internationally. Some prominent
Italian lawmakers have publicly expressed their support, signaling a
growing global awareness and condemnation of the death penalty practices
in Iran. This international backing is seen as a crucial element in
amplifying the voices of those inside Iran who are fighting against
state oppression.
Escalation of Repression
The newly appointed government has intensified its crackdown on dissent,
executing at least 126 people in the past month, alone. Thousands of
prisoners across Iran remain on death row, a grim testament to what the
statement describes as the systematic incompetence and brutality of the
current regime. The prisoners also labeled the new government as one of
"repression and execution," warning that it is likely to lead to even
greater societal suppression.
A Call to Action
Despite the mounting pressure, the prisoners remain steadfast in their
commitment to resist. They are urging all other inmates across various
prisons to join the campaign, as well as calling on conscientious
individuals worldwide to support their cause. The campaign’s goal is the
abolition of the death penalty and the end of torture in Iran, a cause
that continues to resonate both within and beyond the country's borders.
The "No to Executions Campaign on Tuesdays" is a critical movement
against the use of the death penalty in Iran. With growing participation
from prisoners and international supporters, it underscores the urgent
need for global action to confront human rights abuses in Iran.>>

Mohammad Yasin Jalalzahi and Sheida Hasanzahi
Iranwire - August 26, 2024
<<Iranian University Continues Case Against Journalists Despite
Pezeshkian's Directive
The Iranshahr University of Medical Sciences is pursuing a legal
complaint against two journalists despite the Iranian president's recent
order for government agencies to withdraw complaints against members of
the press. The university complained following a report by journalists
Mohammad Yasin Jalalzahi and Sheida Hasanzahi from the Mayarjal news
website. Their report focused on the service conditions in the dialysis
department of Khatam Al-Anbiya Hospital in Iranshahr. The incident
escalated when the hospital's security personnel detained Jalalzahi and
Hasanzahi, and confiscated their belongings for two days earlier this
month. The journalists' equipment was only returned after this period,
raising concerns about the legality of the actions taken by the hospital
staff. Diyar Ayar, a local news outlet in Sistan and Baluchistan
province, reported that the legal representative of Iranshahr University
of Medical Sciences accused the journalists of <publishing false and
insulting material> against both the university and the hospital. The
complaint alleges that their report caused <public concern> and <damaged
the social standing of the officials involved in the project.> The
confrontation began when Jalalzahi and Hasanzahi attempted to document
the conditions in the hospital's dialysis department. During their work,
hospital staff seized the journalists' equipment and physically
assaulted them. This ongoing legal battle comes in the wake of a
directive issued on August 7 - Journalist's Day in Iran - by President
Masoud Pezeshkian, who called on government agencies to withdraw their
complaints against journalists. Although the Ministry of Roads and Urban
Development recently complied with this directive, the case against
Jalalzahi and Hasanzahi remains under judicial review. The International
Federation of Journalists also commented on the situation, stating,
"Despite the governor's order, the complaint file remains open, and the
University of Medical Sciences continues to pursue the case.">>

Iranian police officers attacked and violently arrested a woman
Iranwire - August 26, 2024
<<Iran's Hijab Crackdown: Woman Beaten, Arrested in Kermanshah
Iranian police officers attacked and violently arrested a woman for not
wearing the mandatory hijab in western Kermanshah on Sunday. According
to information received by IranWire, witnesses reported that the woman
was forcefully detained and beaten by the officers. Despite efforts by
other citizens at the scene to intervene and prevent the arrest and
assault, the overwhelming presence of security forces rendered their
attempts ineffective. The identity and whereabouts of the woman remain
unknown. Since April 13, Iran's law enforcement agencies have
intensified the enforcement of hijab regulations under the national
action plan <Noor.> Across Iran, there have been numerous reports of
women being arrested and subjected to the use of force due to perceived
violations of dress codes.
Users across social networks are participating in a spontaneous campaign
using the hashtag "war against women" to document their experiences and
observations regarding the government's crackdown on the opponents of
mandatory hijab.>>
