Hevi Seyid
Jinha - Womens News Agency - Sept. 6, 2024 - by PERWIN AMARA
<<'We vow to realize the dreams of the martyrs'
"We work to ensure that the children of martyrs have a free future,"
said Hevi Seyid, chair of the Women's Council of Martyrs' Families. "We
have already vowed to realize the dreams of the martyrs."
Qamishlo- the Autonomous Administration of North and East Syria (AANES)
was established following the Rojava Revolution led by women in North
and East Syria. Thanks to the revolution and the resistance of Kurds,
Arabs, Assyrians, Circassians, Armenians and people from different
nationalities and ethnic groups, Kurdish children today learn their
history and culture in their native language. Since the start of the
revolution, many organizations and institutions have been founded. The
Women’s Council of Martyrs’ Families is one of them. The council
previously carried out its activities as a committee until it held its
conference in 2018. At the conference, the name of the committee was
changed to its current name of Women's Council of Martyrs' Families.
There are 14 branches of the council in 14 cities in the Jazira Canton
and each of them has a women's committee. Organizing and educating the
spouses, children and mothers of martyrs and implementing various
projects for them are some of the activities of the council. In an
interview with NuJINHA, Hevi Seyid, chair of the Women's Council of
Martyrs' Families, gave information about the works and activities of
the council.
Meetings for the relatives of martyrs.
The aim of the council is to organize the mothers, sisters, spouses and
children of the martyrs, Hevi Seyid said, "We hold meetings for the
spouses of martyrs once a month, for the mothers, sisters and children
of martyrs once every three months. The Economy Committee of the council
realizes various projects for the spouses of martyrs. The council opened
the Martyr Beşîr School for the children of martyrs. The education for
the children of martyrs will start soon. At the school, the children
will learn how to read and write and receive education on technology and
cinema." The children of martyrs are the legacy of the martyrs, Hevi
Seyid said, adding, "They are our most sacred values. Their mothers and
fathers fought so that their children could have a free future, and
determine their own future. We work to ensure that the children of
martyrs have a free future. Protecting the philosophy of Reber Apo
(Abdullah Ocalan) is protecting the children of martyrs. At our
meetings, the children of martyrs tell us that they should follow in the
footsteps of their parents."
'We vow to realize their dreams'
Hevi Seyid also talked about the challenges faced by them while founding
the council. "We faced many challenges in the foundation of the council.
We overcame all the challenges because we have already vowed to realize
the dreams of our martyrs. Leader Apo made great efforts for women. As
the mothers of martyrs, we will maintain our lives based on the thoughts
and philosophy of Leader Apo." >>

women of the Makhmour Martyr Rustem Cudi Camp
Jinha - Womens News Agency - Sept. 6, 2024 - by NUPELDA DENIZ
<<Women of Makhmour: The freedom of leader Apo is our freedom
"The freedom of leader Apo is our freedom," women of Makhmour said,
stressing that the Democratic Nation system formed by Kurdish leader
Abdullah Ocalan is a solution to all attacks, occupations and crises in
the Middle East.
Makhmour- "The freedom of leader Apo is our freedom," said women of the
Makhmour Martyr Rustem Cudi Camp (Makhmour Refugee Camp), reacting to
the isolation imposed on Kurdish leader Abdullah Ocalan in the prison
island of Imrali for more than 25 years.
'Their silence shows their cooperation'
"An aggravated isolation has been imposed on Kurdish leader Abdullah
Ocalan for more than 25 years," said Amina Pirani, one of the women of
the camp. "The isolation is imposed not only on leader Apo but also all
people. This isolation is unacceptable from both human and social
aspects. Some people describe themselves as human rights defenders but
remain silent against this aggravated isolation. Their silence shows
their cooperation. The Democratic Nation system formed by leader Apo is
a solution to all attacks, occupations and crises in the Middle East.
Therefore, this isolation must be broken and leader Apo's physical
freedom must be ensured."
'The freedom of leader Apo is our freedom'
Kurdish leader Abdullan Ocalan is the key to the solution, Xeyiç Gokalp
said, adding, "Since leader Apo is the key to the solution for all
problems, the isolation imposed on him has been aggravated. Leader Apo
is banned from lawyer and family visits on the grounds of disciplinary
punishments. The isolation aims to break the bond between the people and
leader Apo but nothing can break our bond with leader Apo. We will
struggle more against the isolation imposed on him. His thoughts and
philosophy have already spread all around the world. Women should
struggle to ensure the physical freedom of leader Apo. Leader Apo wages
a great resistance in the prison island of Imrali. As the Kurdish
people, we should resist and struggle for his freedom. We will resist
and struggle for his freedom."
'Leader Apo is the leader of humanity'
Kurdish leader Abdullah Ocalan is the leader of humanity, Medina Kara
said, condemning the isolation imposed on him. "We have received no
information from him for four years. Kurdish people of all ages demand
his freedom. The isolation imposed on him has been intensified to
prevent his thoughts and philosophy from spreading. As the people of
Makhmour, we will struggle more to ensure his physical freedom. All
people should rise up and ensure his freedom." >>

"Our march for freedom against the Syrian government's policies of
destabilization will continue," said Şahrazad Al-Cassim, coordinating
member of the Zenubya Women's Community, reacting to the ongoing attacks
on Deir ez-Zor Canton.
Deir ez-Zor- The Syrian government and the Difa al Watani (National
Defense Forces, NDF), a Syrian pro-government paramilitary volunteer
militia, have intensified their attacks on the Deir ez-Zor Canton. "The
attacks are against the Autonomous Administration of North and East
Syria," said Şahrazad Al-Cassim, coordinating member of the Zenubya
Women's Community. "They aim to destabilize the region."
'Our march for freedom will continue'
We will stand against the attacks of the Syrian government, Şahrazad Al-Cassım
stressed. "The Syrian government aims to control the region for its own
interests. Despite the attacks, our march for freedom will continue. We
will stand against all attacks targeting us. As the people and women of
the region, we will mobilize more against the attacks. These lands
belong to the people of these lands. We are determined to protect our
homeland."
'We will not leave our homeland'
The attacks of the Syrian government aim to take control of the region
and disrupt peace in the region, Şahrazad Al-Cassım said, "But our will
is stronger than their plans and conspiracies. We will not allow them to
take our achieved gains from us. Their plans and conspiracies will not
be able to weaken the will of the people of Deir ez-Zor. As women of
Deir ez-Zor, we will continue to stand against the attacks of the Syrian
government and Iranian militias. We will not leave our homeland at any

Yemeni woman
Jinha - Womens News Agency - Sept. 4, 2024 - by RANIA ABDULLAH
<<Yemeni women make dairy products for living amid conflict
Many Yemeni women earn a living by making dairy products such as cheese
amid conflict between the Houthis and the government forces.
Yemen - The conflict between the Houthis and the government forces has
displaced thousands of people in Yemen. The ongoing conflict and
political instability in Yemen negatively affect people in all facets of
life. Many Yemeni women struggle to survive amid conflict. Ruqaya Hayel
(50) living in the northwest of Taiz is one of them. She has made local
cheeses for 20 years.
'I make and sell cheese'
Our only source of income is dairy products, she told NuJINHA. "However,
the Houthis plant landmines everywhere. The local people cannot graze
our sheep. When their sheep run towards the minefield, they cannot go
after them and catch them because they are afraid. I have a cow and
several goats. I milk them every morning. I make cheese and sell it in
the local market." Ruqaya Hayel, mother of six, lost her husband in one
of the clashes. "I am now the only breadwinner of my family. However,
what I earn is insufficient to meet our needs. I do not have a shop to
sell cheese so I sell cheese in the local market."
'Women's projects should be supported'
Trainer Fatima Al-Sharaabi thinks that "women living in rural areas
should be supported to learn how to use agricultural techniques and
combat climate change. Access to services for women living in rural
areas should be facilitated and their projects should be supported.
Supporting rural women will help improve their living conditions and
increase their role in development."
'Local cheese is the highest quality cheese'
"Local cheese is the best and highest quality cheese," said Noura Abdo,
who buys cheese every day. Speaking about 'Sahawiq', a spicy and
herbaceous green Yemeni sauce Noura Abdo said, "We use cheese, garlic,
green pepper, spicy pepper, mint, and a few chunks of tomato to make
this sauce." >>

A group of Spanish women activists has launched a petition urging the
International Criminal Court (ICC) to classify the Taliban's oppression
of women and girls as a crime against humanity.
News Center- A group of Spanish women activists has launched a petition
urging the International Criminal Court (ICC) to classify the Taliban's
oppression of women and girls as a crime against humanity. MPs,
professors, lawyers and women working for international organizations
are among the signatories of the petition. The petition collected 1,000
signatures in just one day.
"As women from different fields and professions all around the world,
who have a voice, we are shocked and want to raise our voice to support
the women and girls in Afghanistan," the petition reads. "They are under
a regime of repression that violates their most basic human rights, in
which they suffer oppression, violence, repression, harassment, and

The Taliban's oppression of women clearly constitutes a crime against
humanity under Article 7 of the Rome Statute and should be recognized as
gender apartheid, as requested by the UN Rapporteur, the petition added.

Evin Cuma
Jinha - Womens News Agency - Sept. 4, 2024 - by EBIR MUHEMED
<<'International human rights organizations should stand against the
Turkish attacks'
The Turkish state commits crimes against humanity in northeastern Syria,
Evin Cuma, Co-chair of the Human Rights Organization in Jazira Canton,
calling on international human rights organizations to stand against the
Turkish attacks.
Qamishlo- International silence against the ongoing Turkish attacks on
North and East Syria continues. At the end of August 2024, a woman and
her son were killed in a Turkish drone attack on the city of Qamishlo
and a civilian was killed in another Turkish drone attack on Amuda, a
town of Hasakah. The Turkish state has intensified its attacks targeting
civilians in North and East Syria for about two years, said Evin Cuma,
Co-chair of the Human Rights Organization in the Jazira Canton of North
and East Syria. "The ongoing Turkish attacks aim to depopulate the
region. City centers were targeted in many Turkish drone attacks. Most
of those who were killed in the attacks were civilians. The aim of the
Turkish state is not ensuring its border security, its attacks target
critical civilian infrastructure."
'The attacks affect all facets of life in the region'
The Turkish state could not get approval from international powers to
launch a ground operation, Evin Cuma said, "That's why it uses warplanes
and drones to attack the region. Yes, people resist but they have no
security. The attacks affect all facets of life in the region. Several
days ago, a woman and her son were killed in a Turkish drone attack in
Qamishlo. The Turkish drone targeted their vehicle and killed two
civilians. The situation in North and East Syria will deteriorate if the
Turkish attacks continue."
'We demand airspace protection'
In her speech, Evin Cuma called on human rights defenders, international
human rights organizations to stand against the Turkish attacks. "We
demand airspace protection. These attacks are crimes against humanity.
The Turkish government aims to regain its power by attacking North and
East Syria. The guarantor states such as the US and Russia are aware of
every attack; however, they remain silent."
'We document rights violations'
We have dozens of documents proving that the targeted people are
civilians, Evin Cuma stressed. "As the Human Rights Organization in
Jazira Canton, we document rights violations and the civilians killed in
attacks. We prepare reports and send them to the Violations
Documentation Center in Syria and many other human rights
organizations." >>

Midiya Ehmed
Jinha - Womens News Agency - Sept. 4, 2024 - by RONIDA HACI
<<'Any attack on journalists is a crime against humanity'
Journalist Mîdiya Ehmed condemns the Turkish attack targeting
journalists in Sulaymaniyah and "the silence of the Iraqi government
against the attack. According to international conventions, Any attack
on journalists is a crime against humanity."
Hasakah- On August 15, Turkiye and Iraq had a meeting in Ankara and
signed a memorandum of understanding on military, security and
counter-terrorism cooperation. On August 23, eight days after the
meeting, A Turkish drone targeted a vehicle carrying journalists in the
Said Sadiq district of Sulaymaniyah, killing two journalists, Gulistan
Tara and Hero Bahadin. The attack targeting journalists in Sulaymaniyah
was one of the plans of the memorandum of understanding signed by
Turkiye and Iraq, said journalist Midiya Ehmed, condemning the attack on
the journalists.
"The Turkish state previously attacked journalists in Southern Kurdistan
many times; journalist Nujiyan Erhan was killed in one of the Turkish
attacks in Southern Kurdistan. Every day, the Turkish state carries out
attacks on the Medya Defense Areas and villages, killing civilians.
Journalists are targeted by the Turkish state while trying to report the
crimes committed by the Turkish state. The Turkish state, in
collaboration with the KDP, targets journalists in Southern Kurdistan.
Despite all the Turkish attacks, we will keep reporting its crimes with
the 'Jin, Jiyan, Azadi' philosophy."
'Women journalists report the truth'
Pointing to the works of women journalists in North and East Syria,
Midiya Ehmed said, "At the beginning of the revolution in Rojava, women
journalists fought the patriarchal mindset and won. Now, they are the
mirror of society while the Turkish state has intensified its attacks on
North and East Syria, killing and displacing civilians. Women
journalists make great efforts to make the truth heard all around the
world. We commemorate our journalist colleagues, who were killed while
reporting the truth. We commemorate martyr Dilîşan Îbiş. Today, the
'Jin, Jiyan, Azadi' philosophy has become a philosophy embraced by women
demanding freedom all around the world thanks to women journalists."
'We condemn silence'
Any attack on women journalists is an attack on the 'Jin, Jiyan, Azadi'
philosophy, Midiya Ehmed noted, saying, "We condemn the silence of the
Iraqi government against the attack on journalists. According to
international conventions, any attack on journalists is a crime against
humanity. The Iraqi government and international human rights
organizations must break their silence. We vow to be the voice of the
truth." >>

<<Tunisia's electoral body dismisses court ruling that reinstated
presidential candidates
Tunisia's electoral commission rejected on Monday an administrative
court ruling that had reinstated three presidential election candidates,
leaving just two challengers to face incumbent leader Kais Saied in next
month's vote.
Tunisia's electoral authority on Monday announced it had approved three
presidential candidates for the October 6 election, including incumbemt
President Kais Saied, dismissing three other would-be candidates despite
court rulings allowing them to run. The three dismissed candidates had
last week won appeals at the Administrative Court against a decision
from the High Independent Authority for Elections (ISIE) disqualifying
them from running. The authority had said they had not obtained enough
of the endorsements required to run for the top post. They were among 14
hopefuls whose bids for the race were rejected. On Monday, the ISIE said
its initial list was <definitive and not subject to appeal>.
It said it was maintaining the same list announced on August 10 because
<the administrative court did not officially communicate its decisions
within the 48-hour deadline according to the law>.
As it stands, former parliamentarian Zouhair Maghzaoui and businessman
Ayachi Zammel are set to challenge Saied, the election's frontrunner.
Zammel was however arrested earlier Monday on charges of lying about
details of his campaign, according to his team. Zammel is the only
approved candidate to be arrested, but he joins a list of presidential
hopefuls who have been imprisoned or are facing prosecution. Saied was
democratically elected in 2019 but orchestrated a sweeping power grab in
2021. On Saturday, a petition signed by prominent Tunisians and civil
society groups urged that rejected candidates be allowed to stand in the
October election. Among the rejected candidates are Imed Daimi, an
adviser to former president Moncef Marzouki, former minister Mondher
Zenaidi and opposition party leader Abdellatif Mekki.
The petition said the administrative court's rulings on appeals "are
enforceable and cannot be contested by any means whatsoever".It called
on the ISIE to "respect the law and avoid any practice that could
undermine the transparency and integrity of the electoral process".
