Narges Mohazmmadi
Update:
Jinha - Womens News Agency - 25 Sept 2024
<<Letter from Narges Mohammadi to UN General Assembly
Nobel Peace Prize laureate Narges Mohammadi sent a letter to the
79th session of the UN General Assembly, calling on the UN to take
urgent action against the Iranian government's rights violations.
News Center- The 79th session of the UN General Assembly and the
Summit of the Future took place in New York on September 22, 2024. The
leaders at the UN General Assembly session received a letter written
from prison by Nobel Peace Prize laureate Narges Mohammadi, calling for
the release of political prisoners and an end to the repression of women
and civil society in Iran. The letter has been published on the
Instagram page of Narges Mohammadi. Narges Mohammedi wrote the following
letter to UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres and the members of the
UN General Assembly:
"Two years have passed since the start of the Women, Life,
Freedom movement. A civil society movement that has spread throughout
Iran. It is a democratic movement whose demands were expressed by the
slogan 'Woman, Life, Freedom,' which carried a clear call for democracy
and equality in Iran.
'We have been extremely worried in recent days'
As with previous popular uprisings and social movements, the
price paid for the active support shown by all sections of the Iranian
population, who rose up in solidarity, was brutal repression, which
continues to this day. The world is witnessing the massacres,
executions, imprisonments and violent, ruthless repression of women in
Iran's streets, detention centers and prisons. We have been extremely
worried in recent days, with several women being condemned to death
including Pakhshan Azizi and Sharifeh Mohammadi.
Sharifeh Mohammadi and Pakhshan Azizi
The representatives of the Iranian government will be among you
at the United Nations General Assembly session. I ask you to urgently
call for respect for human rights as a precondition for all negotiations
whatever the level, as it is the only possible way to achieve democracy
and peace in the Middle East and Iran. It's time for action, and I'm
asking you to replace words with concrete, effective measures. I urge
you to act forcefully and immediately for an end to the widespread and
brutal executions of political prisoners, the release of all political
prisoners and an end to the repression of women and civil society in
Iran." >>

Earlier messages:
Jinha - September 16, 2024
<<Message from Narges Mohammadi for Jina Mahsa Amini
"From Kurdistan to Sistan and Baluchestan, and from Tehran to Azerbaijan
and Khuzestan, people with diverse voices have come together to
challenge the very foundations of tyranny."
News Center- "Today, we raise our voices louder and strengthen our
resolve," Nobel Peace Prize laureate Narges Mohammadi said in a message
on the second anniversary of the killing of Jina Mahsa Amini that
sparked the "Jin, Jiyan, Azadi" uprising in Iran.
Her message is as follows:
"Two years have passed since the killing of Mahsa Jina Amini and the
magnificent and powerful movement of "Women, Life, Freedom." In these
two difficult and agonizing years, although the wounds have left marks
on the bodies of those exhausted and tormented by oppression,
discrimination, and tyranny, and despite the challenging road ahead, we
all know that nothing is as it was before. The people feel the greatest
change in their beliefs, lives, and society. A change that, while it has
not yet toppled the Islamic Republic regime, has shaken the foundations
of religious tyranny.
The "Woman, Life, Freedom" movement has made the people's
disillusionment with the regime so visible that a presidential
candidate, during a live debate, admitted, "Which people are we talking
about? The 60 percent who were unwilling to go to the polls." The
"Woman, Life, Freedom" movement has redefined the people's role in
confronting tyrannical rule, imposing a new understanding that instills
fear within this theocratic regime.
From Kurdistan to Sistan and Baluchestan, and from Tehran to Azerbaijan
and Khuzestan, people with diverse voices have come together to
challenge the very foundations of tyranny. On the second anniversary of
the "Women, Life, Freedom" movement, we reaffirm our commitment to
achieving democracy, freedom, and equality and to defeating theocratic
despotism.
Today, we raise our voices louder and strengthen our resolve.
I call on international institutions and people around the world not
only to observe but to take active action. I urge the United Nations to
end its silence and inaction in the face of the devastating oppression
and discrimination by theocratic and authoritarian governments against
women by criminalizing gender apartheid. The liberation of women from
the grip of oppression and discrimination is essential for empowering
the force that drives peace and democracy." >>

Iranwire - Sept 2, 2024
<<'Shameless': Imprisoned Nobel Laureate in Iran Slams Custodial Death
Narges Mohammadi, the Nobel Peace Prize-winning human rights activist
and political prisoner in Iran, has said the Islamic Republic should be
held accountable for the death in custody of Seyyed Mohammad Mirmousavi.
Mirmousavi, a young man from Gilan, was tortured and severely beaten by
officers of the Special Police Force after being arrested, leading to
his death in northern Langerud.
"How shameless is it for [the] Islamic Republic to call the killing of
an innocent man under torture an 'exception' and to describe the
systematic, deadly torture in detentions as merely the loss of control
of emotions and anger of the agents' and 'excitement caused by
friction,'" she said in an Instagram post.
She condemned the Islamic Republic for its systematic use of torture and
its attempt to downplay such a catastrophic crime.
"The Islamic Republic must be held accountable for the murder of Seyyed
Mohammad Mirousavi under brutal torture by its agents," she added.
Mirmousavi, a resident of Seyyed Mahalleh village in the Rudbeneh
district of Lahijan, was arrested on August 24 and died the same day at
a police station in Langarud after being tortured. The prosecutor
announced that a special investigator had been appointed to investigate
the matter. Five law enforcement officers have also been arrested in
connection with the case.>>
