Jaber Sakhravi
Iranwire - 8 August 2024
<<Iranian Arab Political Prisoner with MS Denied Urgent Treatment
The health condition of Jaber Sakhravi, an Iranian Arab political
prisoner, has worsened in absence of proper medical care at Shiban
Prison in Iran's Ahvaz. Despite his urgent need for medical treatment,
prison authorities have prevented his transfer for necessary care,
sources told IranWire.
Sakhravi, who suffers from multiple sclerosis (MS), requires continuous
physiotherapy sessions. However, prison authorities have denied him
access to the required treatment. Sakhravi was hospitalized in June with
symptoms of a stroke, but despite his critical condition, he was
returned to Shiban Prison. The latest incident takes place just one year
before his ten-year sentence ends. Sakhravi is accused of being a member
of Harakat al-Nidal, or the Arab Struggle Movement for the Liberation of
Ahvaz. He is serving a sentence of 12 years and five months. Sakhravi, a
computer engineer from Ahvaz's Alavi district, was arrested in Ahvaz on
March 24, 2014. He was transferred to the Ahvaz Intelligence Department
detention center, one of Iran's most notorious security facilities. A
source in Karun prison told IranWire that despite having multiple
sclerosis (MS), he was severely tortured in the Ahvaz Intelligence
Detention Center. "During his detention at the Ahvaz Intelligence
Department, Jaber's MS worsened. When he was sent to Karun Prison, he
was in a terrible condition," the source said.>>

Hossein Shanbehzadeh
Iranwire - 8 August 2024
<<Iranian Translator Faces Trial on Propaganda and Other Charges
The trial of Hossein Shanbehzadeh, an imprisoned translator and editor,
was held on Wednesday at branch 26 of the Islamic Revolution Court of
Tehran. Shanbehzadeh faced eight charges, including <insulting holy
places and leadership, and propaganda activity> in favor of Israel. Amir
Raisian, Shanbehzadeh's lawyer, said, "Yesterday, the trial of Mr.
Hossein Shanbehzadeh was held. Mr. Shanbehzadeh presented his defense
regarding the charges, and my colleague, Mrs. Saeedkhah, and I also
expressed our defense." The charges against Shanbezadeh include
<insulting the sacred, insulting the founder of the Islamic Republic and
the leader of the revolution, publishing lies, propaganda activity
against the regime, and propaganda activity in favor of the Zionist
regime.> The lawyers did not provide specific citations or examples of
these accusations. Authorities have not officially disclosed the reason
for Hossein's arrest on June 5, but many point to a recent interaction
on social media platform X as the catalyst behind it. The incident
involved Iran's Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei's account posting his photo
with the national student volleyball team. Shanbezadeh replied to
Khamenei's tweet with a single character: a period. This minimalist
critique quickly went viral, with thousands of users reposting the
exchange. Many saw his punctuation as a bold statement, suggesting that
even the slightest criticism - a mere dot - could rattle the government.
As news of Hossein's arrest spread, his supporters flooded social media
platforms, using the term "kidnapping" to describe his detention. He was
also charged with <spying for Isreal,> which he and his family strongly
refuted.>>

Eight Political Prisoners in Iran Face Risk of Execution
Iranwire - 8 August 2024
<<Eight prisoners in central Ahvaz, Shiban, and Sepidar prisons in Iran
are facing imminent execution on political charges. Among them is Abbas
Daris, an Iranian man on death row over his participation in the 2019
protests in the country. In November 2019, more than 100 Iranian cities
and towns were hit by protests after the government decided to raise
fuel prices, with many demonstrators chanting against the Islamic
Republic.
Abbas Daris and his brother, Moshen, were arrested in the south-western
city of Mahshahr on charges of <waging war against God, inciting
disorder and participating in the murder of Reza Sayadi,> a member of
the special police forces known as NOPO. The Mahshahr Revolutionary
Court sentenced Daris to death. His lawyer, Fereshteh Tabanian, said
that the Supreme Court upheld the sentence without giving any regard to
objections she had filed in the case. Another prisoner, Mujahid Korkur,
was arrested during the 2022 "Woman, Life, Freedom" protests. Korkur's
arrest was reported in mid-December of 2022. He was handed capital
punishment in 2023 for allegedly killing several people during protests
in the western city of Izeh.
Korkur's alleged victims in Izeh on November 16 include Kian Pirfalak, a
nine-year-old boy who was shot by the security forces in his parent's
car.
Kian Pirfalak
After partially recovering from injuries sustained during the shooting
incident, Kian's father, Meysem Pirfalak, released a video in which he
refuted Korkur's involvement in the death of his son. "My wife and I
witnessed firsthand the security forces... firing at our car, injuring
me and killing my son," he said.
Additionally, Ali Majdam, Moein Khanfari, Salem Mousavi, Mohammad Reza
Majdam, Adnan Mousavi, and Habib Daris are also at risk of being
executed. These individuals were arrested on various charges and were
sentenced to death following months of torture at IRGC intelligence
detention centers. Meanwhile, the Islamic Republic's authorities
executed 22 prisoners in the Ghezelhesar Prison near Tehran on
Wednesday. The prisoners had been previously sentenced to death for
various non-political crimes, including murder, drug-related offenses,
and rape. Seven prisoners were convicted of drug-related offenses, four
were convicted of murder, three Afghan nationals were convicted of rape,
and seven Sunni prisoners and one additional prisoner had unspecified
charges.
According to a report by Amnesty International, Iran has reached its
highest level of death sentence executions in the last eight years, with
the Islamic Republic's judiciary executing 853 people in 2023 alone.>>

which have been confiscated. As a result, my client has faced financial
difficulties in prison, and we have informed some of his acquaintances
and the New Zealand embassy about this issue." This dual citizen was

Forced hijab in Iran
NCRI - Womens committee - 7 August 2024 - in Statements
<<Violent Assault and Inhumane Treatment of Two Teenage Girls by
Morality Police
Call for International Investigation, Accountability, and Sanctions
Against Regime Leadership
Recently released footage depicting the violent assault and inhumane
treatment of two teenage girls, one aged 14, by Iran' morality police
and SSF (State Security Force) agents for alleged hijab violations has
shocked the conscience of the international community. ccording to the
mother of one victim, physical evidence of the assault remains visible
over six weeks after the incident. The egregious nature of this event
has prompted even the regime' SSF to state: <Such behavior by SSF agents
falls outside our operational standards. The case is currently under
investigation by FARAJA (the regime' State Security Force) judicial and
inspection system.> This incident underscores the urgent need for
international scrutiny, accountability measures for regime leadership,
and appropriate sanctions in response to the brutal and inhumane
treatment of women in Iran.
The Women's
Committee of the National Council of Resistance of Iran hereby calls
upon the UN Human Rights Council, the UN High Commissioner for Human
Rights, the Special Rapporteur on Iran, and the UN Special Rapporteur on
Violence against Women to strictly condemn the oppressive actions of
religious fascism ruling Iran. The NCRI Women's Committee also demands
the immediate expulsion of regime representatives from relevant
international bodies. The continued presence of representatives from
such a regime in these forums undermines the principles of human rights,
women's rights, and the United Nations itself.
