Pakhshan Azizi
Sharifeh Mohammadi and Pakhshan Azizi
Jinha - Womens News Agency 2 August 2024 - by SARAH KARIMI
<<Women of Mahabad: Our struggle will continue
Women of Eastern Kurdistan condemn the death sentences against labor
activist Sharifeh Mohammadi and journalist Pakhshan Azizi. "We struggle
more against the heavy prison sentences."
Mahabad- Since the "Jin, Jiyan, Azadi" protests that sparked in Iran
following the killing of Jina Mahsa Amini in 2022 by Iran's so-called
<morality police>, the Islamic Republic of Iran has been intensifying
its crackdown on dissent through a wave of arrests, torture, executions
and heavy prison sentences. Despite the intensified crackdown, women in
the country keep struggling against all kinds of patriarchal policies
and laws in all facets of life, especially in prisons.
'Women struggle much more consciously than before'
"Hundreds of women like Narges Mohammadi and Zeynab Jalalian have been
imprisoned by Islamic Republic of Iran for struggling against gender
discrimination," said Delnia Karimpour, a Kurdish student in Mahabad,
commenting on the crackdown on women by the Islamic Republic of Iran.
The Iranian regime sentenced Sharifeh Mohammadi and Pakhshan Azizi to
death, aiming at intimidating women. Despite all the oppressive policies
of the regime, women have strengthened their struggle. We struggle more
against the heavy prison sentences. The government should know very well
that women struggle much more consciously than before."
'We will continue to struggle against oppression'
Sana M., a women's rights activist in Mahabad, condemned the Islamic
Republic of Iran for sentencing labor activist Sharifeh Mohammadi and
journalist Pakhshan Azizi to death. "The aim of the regime is to weaken
society and intimidate women because it knows very well that women's
struggle will shake the foundations of its system. Therefore, the regime
has used death sentences against women to silence them since the "Jin,
Jiyan, Azadi" uprising. We will continue to struggle against
oppression." >>

Iranwire - July 30, 2024
<<Women Inmates Launch Hunger Strike to Protest Activist's Death
Sentence
Women political prisoners in Tehran's Evin prison have announced their
intention to go on a hunger strike as part of their ongoing protest
against the death sentence issued to a Kurdish activist. This marks the
second major protest action by these inmates following the announcement
of the death sentence for Pakhshan Azizi. The news of the strike was
shared via jailed human rights activist and Nobel Peace Prize awardee
Narges Mohammadi's Instagram page. It said the prisoners would join the
"No Execution Tuesdays" campaign with the hunger strike. On Saturday,
the same prisoners initiated a sit-in protest at Evin prison. Beginning
at 7:00 PM, they chanted slogans demanding the cancellation of the death
penalty for Azizi. The prisoners had previously gathered en masse in the
prison yard to protest against the death sentence. Azizi was convicted
of <membership in groups that waged an armed uprising against the
Islamic government and whose leaders are involved in rebellion.> In
addition to the death sentence, she received a four-year prison term for
alleged membership in the Kurdistan Free Life Party (PJAK). The court
proceedings, presided over by Judge Iman Afshari, took place on May 28
and June 16, 2024.
The verdict was sent to Azizi's lawyers last week.
She is currently held in Tehran's Evin Prison, where she has reportedly
been deprived of phone calls and visitation rights for the past two
weeks. In a letter recently published by the Hengaw Organization for
Human Rights, Azizi cited multiple instances of torture and harassment
during her detention. On August 4, 2023, Iranian Intelligence Forces
arrested her in Tehran's Kharazi town, marking the beginning of her
current ordeal. Azizi's history of activism dates back to at least 2009
when she was arrested during a Kurdish students' protest in Tehran
against executions in Kurdistan.>>

Iranwire - July 30, 2024
A prominent teacher and union activist in Iran has been summoned by
authorities on charges of <propaganda against the Islamic Republic.>
Sara Siahpour, a teacher from Alborz province, was called to the 21st
Branch of the Karaj Revolutionary Prosecutor's Office on Tuesday. This

against national security and propaganda activities against the Islamic
Republic. This verdict was upheld by the Court of Appeal in March. A
subsequent request for a retrial was rejected by the Supreme Court.
Further pressure on Siahpour was created by blocking her bank accounts
and disconnecting her personal mobile phone in early 2024. Notably, she
has also been dismissed from her teaching position, which she proudly
referred to as an "order of honor" on her Instagram page. The dismissal
cited various reasons, including her union activities, participation in
teacher gatherings, publishing photos without hijab, and supporting the
Woman, Life, Freedom movement.>>

Ali Rezaei
Hengaw Organisation for Human Right - 30 July 2024
<<Tehran: Ali Rezaei, a Child Arrested in the "Woman, Life, Freedom"
Movement, Sentenced to 2 Years in Prison
Ali Rezaei, a resident of Tehran who was arrested during the "Woman,
Life, Freedom" movement while he was under eighteen years of age, has
been sentenced by the Iranian Judiciary to two years of imprisonment.
According to a report received by Hengaw Organization for Human Rights,
Ali Rezaei, a resident of Tehran, was sentenced to two years of
imprisonment by Branch 28 of the Iranian Islamic Revolutionary Court of
this city for the charges of <assembly and collusion> and <assault and
battery.> He had previously been acquitted of the charge of <moharebeh>
(enmity against God). Ali Rezaei's lawyer, Ali Shafakhah, emphasized in
an interview that his client was under eighteen years old at the time of
the <alleged crime,> adding that the Supreme Court considered the
Revolutionary Court, rather than the Juvenile Court, as competent to
handle his case. The lawyer stressed that <the legislators' intention
from the full 18 years is that if the individual was 18 years and 364
days old at the time of committing the crime, they have not yet
completed 18 years.> Ali Rezaei was arrested on December 4, 2022, during
the "Woman, Life, Freedom" movement in Tehran and transferred to Ward
209 of Evin Prison, known as the detention center of the Ministry of
Intelligence. After one year of detention, he was temporarily released
on bail.>>
