Kobane-The assassination of three Kurdish women Sakine Cansız (Sara),
Fidan Dogan (Rojbin) and Leyla Şaylemez (Ronahi) in Paris on January 9,
2013 was the beginning of a new concept of attack of the Turkish state
and international forces on pioneering women. On August 10, 2015,
Kurdish guerrilla Ekin Van lost her life in a clash with Turkish
soldiers. Her dead body was naked and photographed by Turkish soldiers.
Tayber Inan, known as Mother Taybet, was shot dead in the street by
snipers while returning home from her neighbor on the 5th day of the
curfew declared in the Silopi district of Şırnak province on December
14, 2015. Her dead body was left in the street for seven days and seven
nights because the Turkish forces did not allow her children to pull her
body in. Kurdish women politicians Pakize Nayır, Fatma Uyar and Seve
Demir were killed by snipers in the district of Silopi on January 4,
2016, during the curfew. On October 12, 2019, Hevrin Khalaf, the
Secretary-General of the Future Syria Party, was killed by the Turkish
forces and Turkish-backed factions near the M4 Motorway south of Tell
Abyad. On June 23, 2020, Kongra Star Coordination member Zehra Berkel,
Kongra Star Assembly member Hebun Xelil and Emine Weysi were targeted
and killed in the Helince (Halinja) village of Kobane by Turkish drones.
On July 22, 2022, YPJ commander Jiyan Tolhildan and her two comrades,
Roj Xabur and Barin Botan were targeted and killed by the Turkish
drones. On 27 July, 2022, Zeyneb Saroxan, co-chair of the Justice and
Reform Office of the Autonomous Administration of North and East Syria (AANES)
was killed by Turkish drones on the road of Derik. On October 4, 2022,
Nagihan Akarsel, journalist, writer and member of Jineology Academy, was
targeted and killed in Sulaymaniyah. On December 23, 2022, Evin Goyi (Emine
Kara), Mir Perwer and Abdullah Kızıl were killed in a gun attack carried
out on the Ahmet Kaya Kurdish Cultural Center in Paris. This attack is
called the second Paris Massacre by Kurdish people. On June 20,2023,
Qamishlo Canton Co-chair Yousra Darwish, her deputy Liman Şiweş and
their driver Fırat Tûma were killed between Bandar and Tal Sh'ir
villages in Qamishlo by Turkish drones. NuJINHA spoke to Mizgin Xelil,
Deputy Chair of the Executive Council in the Euphrates Region, about the
attacks on pioneering Kurdish women.
'Women have been under attack for thousands of years'
<Women always resist although they have been under attack for thousands
of years,> Mizgin Xelil said. <I commemorate all resisting women, who
sacrificed their lives for freedom. Their resistance influenced the
revolution in North and East Syria against slavery, sexism and
captivity.> <In North and East Syria, women led the revolution. All
people, especially women, rose up against the government and fascism.
Thanks to this revolution, women take part in all facets of life. We
have rebuilt a life based on democracy, ecology and women's freedom.
Women did not only fight ISIS or the Turkish state, but also organized
themselves in all facets of life; they improved themselves in military,
politics and diplomacy.> Speaking about the revolutionary women in
history, she said, <Thousands of women such as Rosa Luxemburg and Clara
Zetkin rose up against injustice. Their struggle created a link in the
chain. The thoughts and the philosophy of leader Apo (Abdullah Ocalan)
paved the way for Kurdish women to organize themselves. The women have
improved and organized themselves to achieve freedom.>
'The thoughts of leader Apo were targeted in the person of Evin Goyi'
Mizgin Xelil recalled the attacks on Kurdish pioneering women. <Comrades
Pakize, Seve and Fatma were targeted and killed. Three women were killed
in the village of Helince. Two young women, Viyan and Nujiyan, were
targeted in Kobanê. Hevrin Khalaf, Zeynep Saruxan, Yousra and Reyhan
were targeted and killed. The pioneering women were targeted in the
person of Evin Goyi. Women, who fought ISIS, were targeted. The
pioneering women are still targeted. The thoughts of leader Apo and the
Kurdish women's freedom movement were targeted in the person of Evin
Goyi.>
'We will struggle against all attacks on women'
Mizgin Xelil stated that pioneering women struggled to organize society
by fighting not only their enemies but also sexism and feudalism. <As
women in the Euphrates Canton, we struggle to build a life based on
democracy, ethics, justice and equality. We want to realize the dreams
of thousands of women such as Sakine Cansız, Evin Goyi, Yousra and
Reyhan. We will struggle against all attacks on women.> >>

Women in action

<<Moroccan women demand comprehensive law protecting women against all
forms of violence
Morocco- Morocco is one of the countries, where there is an increase in
femicide and violence against women. The killing of two women in the
country last week sparked discussion in the country about Morocco’s Law
103.13 on combating violence against women, which entered into force in
September 2018. On December 14, a young woman was found dead in an
apartment located in the Hay Essalam neighborhood of El Jadida, a major
port city on the Atlantic coast of Morocco. On December 15, the dead
body of a young woman was found along a roadway in the city. The country
was shaken with another crime on November 31. A 49-year-old man killed
her mother and wife in the Aïn Sebaâ suburb of Casablanca. On September
23, a 28-
year-old man killed his seven-month pregnant wife in the town of Azrou.
Last May, a woman was found dead in a refrigerator in Casablanca by
security forces.
'Femicide is the most severe manifestation of gender-based violence'
Femicide is the most severe manifestation of gender-based violence, said
Khadija Tikroen, a member of the Federal League for Women's Rights
(Federation des Ligues des Droits des Femmes, FLDDF). <Femicide is a
human rights violation and a crime against humanity. The recent increase
in femicide is alarmingly high in Morocco. Immediate solutions should be
found to combat all forms of gender-based discrimination, violence and
killings.>
'It is time to stop these crimes'
Speaking about Morocco's Law 103.13 on combating violence against women,
which entered into force in September 2018, Khadija Tikroen said, <This
law must be amended. Women need a comprehensive law protecting women
against all forms of gender-based violence. It is time to stop these
crimes. The rights violations against women are not acceptable anymore.
Urgent action must be taken to stop gender-based violence and femicide.>
'We demand a comprehensive law'
In her speech, Aisha Lakhmas, a lawyer and president of the Federation
of Women's Action in Morocco, stressed the necessity of amendment of
Morocco's law on combating violence against women. <The current
anti-violence law is a simple amendment of the criminal law. For this
reason, it fails in protecting women from violence. That's why we demand
a comprehensive law protecting women from violence. Combating violence
against women and girls and promoting equality require a budget. Without
a budget, without awareness-raising activities, no policies can be
developed to eliminate violence against women.> >>

Women on defense

<<'It is time to defend our land'
Hasakah- Zirgan, a town of Hasakah Canton, is targeted by the Turkish
attacks almost every day. Despite the ongoing Turkish attacks, killing
dozens, targeting energy supplies, water resources and agricultural
fields, the people of Zirgan are determined to resist the attacks. The
women of Zirgan say that the aim of the ongoing Turkish attacks is to
commit genocide and displace the people of North and East Syria.
'Forced displacement is a special war policy'
Selwa Heci Mihemed had to leave Dawidiya Mele Salman, a village in the
west of Zirgan, due to the Turkish attacks. She now lives in Zirgan with
her family. She criticizes those who try to go to European countries.
<They die in the forests due to climatic conditions, or drown in the
sea. What is important for smugglers is money. They do not care if young
people die. Families should prevent their children from going to
European countries.>
'Our country needs us'
She called on those who try to go to European countries to <stay in your
country. Instead of giving your money to smugglers, you can develop
projects for your people. Fleeing to Europe is not the solution. Our
country needs us. We do not leave our country to defend it. If we die,
we should die with dignity. The people, who fled to other countries, die
many times. As the people of Zirgan, we will never leave our land and we
will defend our land.>
'It is time to defend our land'
Edla Hesen drew attention to the internally displaced people and the
people, who went to other countries. <We are internally displaced in our
country. We live to return to our villages. I do not understand how
people, especially young people, leave their country. We want to return
to our villages even if we have only bread and water. It is time to
defend our land, not leaving it. Our country needs us to fight the
enemy. We will stay here until the end.> >>

Maybe noteworthy - This morning I wrote a poem. Please allow me
to share it with you:
"Being human is a gift...
yes but ...
if one can follow ones path of wanting to give,
instead of always wanting to take
even then when one thinks one really needs it
to excist to the full,
so do understand that being human is a vision."
Long live a long and free Iran
