Nurse Parvaneh Mandani's death
Iranwire - August 13, 2024
<<Overworked Nurse's Death Ignites Strikes in Iran's Hospitals
The death of a 32-year-old nurse at Imam Hossein Hospital in Sepidan due
to severe work-related stress has sparked widespread protests among
nurses across Iran. Nurse Parvaneh Mandani's death, linked to "Karoshi
syndrome," or death from overwork, has intensified ongoing strikes that
began last week in Shiraz and Karaj. These protests have now spread to
hospitals in seven more cities. On Monday, nurses from Beheshti Taft
Hospital in central Yazd joined the strike, further escalating the
situation. According to local media, Mandani died after she accompanied
three patients to a hospital in Shiraz. Her death is supposedly a result
of the Karoshi syndrome. Karoshi, a Japanese term meaning "death from
overwork," describes sudden deaths caused by excessive professional
demands, often resulting in heart attacks or strokes. While most common
in Japan, South Korea, and China, the syndrome is becoming a growing
concern in Iran as the number of nurse fatalities increases. According
to a report from Tejarat News, the number of nurses in Iran is
critically low, estimated at one-tenth of the European standard and
one-fifth of neighboring countries like Azerbaijan. The report
highlights that nurses in Iran are subjected to prolonged, mandatory
overtime, exacerbating their vulnerability. The ongoing nationwide
strikes are driven by multiple grievances, including unpaid wages, the
non-implementation of the medical services tariff law, and grueling work
shifts. According to IranWire sources, authorities are attempting to
undermine the strike by deploying replacement nurses from Tehran to
Shiraz, offering them higher wages and air transport. These measures
have sparked further outrage among the striking nurses, who accuse the
government of ignoring their legitimate demands. The situation has
become particularly dire at Amir Hospital, a cancer treatment center in
Shiraz, where all patients have been discharged, leaving only
supervisors on duty. The nurses have also voiced concerns about the poor
quality of medical facilities and equipment, which they say hampers
their ability to provide adequate care. One nurse described the daily
struggle to locate basic supplies like serum, which frustrates patients'
families, who often blame the nurses. "We have to cover 40 to 50
patients in each shift," the nurse said.>>

Abbas Abdi
Iranwire - August 13, 2024
Iranian Reformist Challenges President's Cabinet Choices
Prominent reformist political activist Abbas Abdi has asked Iran's new
President, Masoud Pezeshkian, to reconsider his cabinet choices. "Is
this list of ministers final, or will it undergo further scrutiny in the
parliament?" Abdi wrote in Etimat newspaper on Tuesday. He emphasized
the need for the president to ensure that the proposed ministers are
those he fully supports. "If it is not final, please withdraw all at
this stage and propose 19 ministers that you accept," Abdi advised. The
proposed cabinet has drawn attention for its lack of diversity, having
only one woman, no Sunni ministers, and no representation from ethnic
minorities. Additionally, there is a strong presence of individuals with
security and military backgrounds, leading to concerns. Azar Mansouri,
head of the Reform Front, condemned the proposed cabinet, saying, "One
should not expect miracles from this government, especially considering
that more than 80 percent of the country's power is in the hands of
other entities." The nominated cabinet's average age of 59.7 contradicts
Pezeshkian's earlier promise that 60 percent of ministers would be under
50. Abdi framed these criticisms not as threats but as "opportunities
for growth and reflection." The activist particularly highlighted the
Ministry of Education as a critical area of concern, calling it a "red
line." Pezeshkian has responded to mounting criticism over his proposed
cabinet and called for patience and fair judgment based on performance.
In a post on X, Pezeshkian addressed the public, saying, <Dear people,
you are the government's greatest asset. Your attention and sensitivity
in selecting cabinet members is valuable. Indifference to politicians'
behavior has given way to criticism. This means we have taken a step
forward.> The president emphasized the consultative process behind the
cabinet selections, noting, <In the selection and review stage of the
cabinet, we consulted numerous experts and tried to create the best
possible situation with existing capacities, using an approach of
consensus and empathy.> Pezeshkian urged critics to reserve their
judgment, saying, <Let the cabinet work and criticize it based on its
performance.> >>

Arezoo Badri was shot by Iranian police over an alleged violation of the
country's strict hijab rules, BBC reported on Monday.
News Center- 31-year-old Arezoo Badri, mother of two, was driving home
with her sister in the northern city of Noor on July 22 when police
attempted to pull her over to confiscate her car, according to BBC. The

shoot, the police commander in Noor told Iran's state-run news agency.
The BBC source said the police officer first shot at the car's tyre
before targeting her directly from the driver's side.
"The bullet entered her lung and severely damaged her spinal cord."

<<'Iran and Afghanistan will be cleared of misogynists'
"Iran and Afghanistan will be cleared of misogynists," Yalda Ahmad, an
Afghan psychologist, said, condemning the death sentences against labor
activist Sharifeh Mohammadi and journalist Pakhshan Azizi by the Iranian
regime.
Kabul- Iran continues to use the death penalty against opponents,
particularly Kurdish citizens in order to suppress the "Jin, Jiyan,
Azadi (Women, Life, Freedom)" uprising. In July 2024, the Iranian regime
sentenced labor activist Sharifeh Mohammadi and Kurdish journalist
Pakhshan Azizi
PIC
Sharifeh Mohammadi and Kurdish journalist Pakhshan Azizi
to death. Afghanistan is one of the countries where women are deprived
of their rights. Despite everything, the women in both countries never
give up demanding freedom.
'Wherever there is oppression, there is resistance'
The death sentences against two women in Iran are also condemned in
Afghanistan. "The Islamic Republic of Iran is very afraid of opponents,
particularly women, and tries to silence the voices of opposition," said
Yalda Ahmad, an Afghan psychologist and women's rights activist. "But
wherever there is oppression, there is resistance."
'I am in solidarity with the women resisting in Iran'
Iranian people and women resist oppression, Yalda Ahmad said. "Although
the Islamic Republic of Iran kills and executes women, men and children,
the struggle and resistance against it will increase. As an Afghan
psychologist, I express that I am in solidarity with the women resisting
in Iran."
'The perpetrators will prosecuted by a tribunal established by people'
Yalda Ahmad concluded her speech, saying, "Like Iranian women, the women
of my country are tortured in the most heinous ways every day in the
prisons of the Taliban. But we all know that this bloodshed will not go
unpunished. One day, Iran and Afghanistan will be cleared of misogynists
and the perpetrators will be prosecuted by a tribunal established by
people. Long live the solidarity of women all over the world! Long live
the struggle for the rights of the Iranian people! No to executions! No
to the Islamic Republic of Iran!" >>

after Babaei's family was summoned to the Iranian Intelligence Office in
Paveh, Firmesk Babaei was arrested and moved to this organization's
detention center in Kermanshah. A reliable source informed Hengaw that
following more than two hours of interrogation involving Babaei's family
members-including her father, mother, younger brother, and Babaei

further reported that when Babaei's family protested against her arrest,
security forces responded with violence. As a result of this harsh
treatment, Firmesk's mother fell ill and was taken to Paveh Hospital,
where she is currently receiving medical care. Eyewitnesses noted that
security forces have surrounded the room in the hospital where Firmesk's
mother is being treated.

Houra Nikbakht
NCRI - Womens committee - 12 August 2024 - in Women's News
<<Houra Nikbakht Denied Medical Care in Evin Prison
Houra Nikbakht, a political prisoner in Tehran's Evin Prison, has been
denied specialized medical care despite her worsening health. Recently,
she was briefly transferred to a hospital but returned to prison without
receiving adequate treatment. On Thursday, August 8, 2024, Houra
Nikbakht was taken to the prison clinic after experiencing body tremors,
loss of speech, and severe physical distress. The prison doctor
diagnosed her with a stroke. She was then transferred to the Tajrish
Hospital in Tehran, where doctors determined it was not a stroke but
warned that she was at high risk of having one. They emphasized that any
minor stress, anxiety, or excitement could trigger a stroke. Despite the
warning, Ms. Nikbakht was returned to Evin Prison by Friday afternoon
while she urgently needed specialized medical treatment. Houra Nikbakht,
a resident of Tehran, was arrested on June 12, 2024, after appearing at
the Third Branch of the Prosecutor's Office in District 33 of Tehran.
She had disclosed her court summons on her X (formerly Twitter) account,
revealing charges of insulting Ali Khamenei, Iran's Supreme Leader and
spreading propaganda against the regime. She was subsequently
transferred to the women's ward of Evin Prison. Her trial took place on
July 11, 2024, at the same branch. In early August 2024, Branch 26 of
the Tehran Revolutionary Court sentenced her to one year on charges of
<propaganda against the state> and <insulting the Supreme Leader.>
Houra Nikbakht is a well-known women's rights activist and the publisher
and editor-in-chief of <Mashgh-e Barabari> (The Way of Equality), a
publication focused on gender equality. She has been imprisoned in the
women's ward of Evin Prison since June 12, 2024. In addition to her

Hengaw Organisation for Human Right - 12 August 2024
<<Tehran: Ebrahim Madadi summoned and arrested to serve a prison term
Ebrahim Madadi, a retired member of the board of directors of the
workers' union of the Tehran and Suburbs Bus Company, has been arrested

of the Evin Prosecutor's Office in Tehran and was transferred to Evin
prison to serve his one-year prison sentence. According to the report
received by the Hengaw Organization for Human Rights, On Sunday, August
11, 2024, Ebrahim Madadi, a 70-year-old member of the founding of Union
of the Tehran and Suburbs Bus Company, was arrested following a summons
and subsequent appearance before the Court of Execution of Sentences.
This action was carried out under the orders of the Evin Court of
Justice for the enforcement of a one-year prison sentence. The Workers'
Union of the Tehran and Suburbs Bus Company reports that this individual
is suffering from multiple health conditions, including diabetes,
hypertension, elevated blood lipids, and prostate issues. These health
concerns have delayed the execution of his sentence until now. It is
worth noting that Ebrahim Madadi was arrested by Iranian security forces
on April 29, 2015, and was released after 22 days on a bail of one
hundred million tomans. In August 2016, Branch 26 of Tehran's Islamic
Revolutionary Court, presided over by Judge Ahmadzadeh, sentenced him to
five years and three months in prison. However, this sentence was
overturned by the Supreme Court, and upon retrial, it was reduced to one

<<Journalists Elaheh Mohammadi and Niloufar Hamedi receive jail terms
Journalists Elaheh Mohammadi and Niloufar Hamedi have been each
sentenced to five years in prison for collusion and conspiring against
state security and one year for propaganda against the Islamic republic.
News Center- Elaheh Mohammadi and Niloufar Hamedi have been each

<conspiring and colluding to commit a crime against national security>

court and would be served concurrently, adding, however, that they hope
the journalists would be freed under an amnesty announced last year by
Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei.
'We hope this case will be closed'
<Considering that the remaining two accusations meet the full conditions
