Hengaw Organisation for Human Right - 21 June 2024
<<Obstructing Ambulance Access by Bu-Ali Sina University Security Leads
to Death of Kimia Tarkashvand
A female architecture student named Kimia Tarkashvand committed suicide
for unknown reasons in the <Dabbagh> female dormitory of Bu-Ali Sina
University in Hamedan. Due to the lack of prompt rescue efforts, she
lost her life. The university security's 40-minute obstruction of the
ambulance's entry resulted in the young student's death. According to a
report received by Hengaw Organization for Human Rights, on the evening
of Thursday, June 20, 2024, a female student identified as Kimia
Tarkashvand from Tuyserkan, a town in Hamedan province, and a
fourth-semester architecture student, attempted suicide by ingesting
pills in the Dabbagh female dormitory of Bu-Ali Sina University in
Hamedan. A student from the university told Hengaw: <The university's
security forces prevented the ambulance from entering the female
dormitory for 40 minutes. After this delay, the security forces also
prevented Kimia's transfer into the ambulance under the pretext of
inappropriate clothing. Eventually, after dressing her and with an
additional 10-minute delay, the student was transferred into the
ambulance, and she died just as she was being transferred.> As of the
time of this report, there is no precise information available regarding
the reasons for this student's suicide. However, late on Thursday night,
university security forces and security personnel surrounded the Dabbagh
female dormitory and threatened students against publicizing this
news.>>

Honour killings
Hengaw Organisation for Human Right - 25 June 2024
<<Femicide in Iran: Woman Heinously Murdered Under the Pretext of
<Honor> in Sanandaj
In Sanandaj, a woman named Nermin Pirhaman was tragically killed by her
husband, who claimed <honor> as the justification for the act. The crime
was committed using cold weapons in a particularly brutal manner.
According to a report received by the Hengaw Organization for Human
Rights, on Sunday, June 23, 2024, Nermin Pirhaman, a mother of two from
the village of Chamso in Sanandaj, Kurdistan Province, was fatally
stabbed by her husband, Heshmat Kalaei, outside the divorce office in
the city. She was attacked with 20 stab wounds between Madar Square and
Sirous Street.
Hengaw has learned that Nermin Pirhaman had left her husband's home
several months prior. On the day of the incident, her husband lured her
to the scene under the pretense of agreeing to the divorce. Once there,
he fatally attacked her with multiple stab wounds in public. Iranian
state media reported the arrest of the perpetrator and, as in many
femicide cases, cited <family disputes> as the motive for the crime.>>

<<Iran Bars Reformist Newspaper's Reporters from Election Coverage
Iranian Ministry of Interior has denied press credentials to four
journalists from Shargh, a prominent reformist newspaper, just hours
after voting began in the country's presidential election. This
decision, made without explanation, effectively bars these reporters
from covering the election process at the Interior Ministry's election
headquarters. The ministry had issued journalists special <election
coverage> cards well before the election. However, on the final day of
the campaign period, officials abruptly canceled the credentials for
reporters from both Shargh and Hammihan newspapers. These press cards
are crucial for journalists, allowing them access to the Interior
Ministry's election headquarters during voting and vote-counting
processes. Without these credentials, reporters cannot directly observe
and report on key aspects of the election. Sources told IranWire that
the Interior Ministry did not provide a justification for this
last-minute decision. The move has raised concerns about press freedom
and transparency in Iran's electoral process. Shargh's editor had
earlier reported that the newspaper was attempting to regain permission
for its reporters to access the election headquarters.>>

<<Iranian Women Barred from Voting for Hijab Violations
As Iran commenced its presidential election on Friday, women without the
mandatory hijab or those deemed to be donning <bad hijab> by government
standards were denied entry to polling stations, witnesses said. Such
enforcement was particularly noted at locations such as the Hosseiniyeh
Ershad polling station, where officials reportedly allowed entry only to
women wearing the Islamic Republic's standard hijab.
Rahmatullah Begdeli, a cleric and political activist, criticized the
approach on X, saying that women with even slightly visible hair were
treated inappropriately. He contrasted this with previous parliamentary
elections where voting requirements were reportedly more lenient. The
strict enforcement marks a shift from past elections when authorities
were said to be more accommodating to boost voter turnout.>>

<<'Won't Participate': Political Prisoner Calls for Iran's Presidential
Poll Boycott
Fatemeh Sepehari, a political prisoner held in Mashhad's Vakilabad
prison, has called for a boycott of the upcoming Iranian presidential
election. In a statement shared by her brother Asghar Sepehari on X, she
declared that <the end point of the Islamic Republic will soon be
reached.> She criticized the clerical establishment and said, <We will
not participate in your appointment circus.> <You are the most lying
people in history, we do not trust you. You are the biggest thieves and
embezzlers in society, we will not cooperate with you,> she added. The
outspoken pro-democracy advocate was arrested in Mashhad on September
12, 2022, and was sentenced in February this year to a total of 18 years
in prison. She faces charges including <propaganda against the regime,>
<cooperating with hostile countries,> and <insulting> Ali Khamenei and
his predecessor, Ruhollah Khomeini.
She is one of the 14 signatories of a 2019 statement calling for
Khamenei's resignation, the abolition of the Islamic Republic, and the
establishment of a secular government. <You are the most ruthless rulers
of the centuries of history, we will not bear the burden of your guilt.
You are the most incompetent managers of any country, take

<<'They will repeat': Families of Protest Victims Denounce Iran's
Election
In the days leading up to the presidential elections, families of
victims of the 2022 protests have been echoing a message with the
hashtag <They will repeat.> They are urging the people of Iran not to
participate in the election. Among those advocating for
non-participation is Fatemeh Heydari, sister of Javad Heydari, who was
killed during the protests of 2022. She has been vocal on social media
platforms, denouncing election participation with the hashtag. Leila
Mahdavi, mother of Siavash Mahmoudi, another victim of the crackdown on
the 2022 protests, similarly voices her anguish and resolve against
electoral participation, drawing attention to the profound personal
losses endured by families like hers. Laden Bazargan, sister of Bijan
Bazargan, executed in 1989, also added her voice against the Islamic
Republic, highlighting historical grievances and opposition to the
Islamic Republic. The situation surrounding the upcoming presidential
elections in Iran has intensified with significant repercussions for
activists and families of victims from past protests. Civil activists
and journalists advocating for a boycott of the elections have faced
summons to the Evin Security Prosecutor's Office on charges of
<propaganda against the Islamic Republic.> Narges Mohammadi, the
imprisoned 2023 Nobel Peace Prize winner, has received an additional
year of imprisonment for similar charges related to propaganda against
the Islamic Republic. Her lawyer, Mostafa Nili, highlighted the
absurdity of accusing his client for urging election boycotts in a
context where freedoms are severely restricted. Milad Mohammadi, brother
of Shahriar Mohammadi, a victim of the crackdown on the 2022 protests,
expressed grave concerns over the intensified pressure on his mother,
Mina Soltani. She has been repeatedly contacted and threatened by
security agencies due to her vocal opposition to election participation.
Milad Mohammadi shared these developments on social media, denouncing
the harassment and psychological pressure inflicted on his family. In
explaining the <They will repeat> campaign, Milad Mohammadi emphasized
that the repetition refers to the ongoing cycle of state violence and
lack of meaningful reforms despite years of protests and demands for
change. He criticized the regime's attempts to portray electoral
participation as widely supported, dismissing them as <orchestrated
shows devoid of legitimacy.> Despite the threats and pressures,
Mohammadi affirmed his family's resolve to continue their struggle for
<justice and accountability.> >>

Grieving mothers boycott sham elections
NCRI - Womens committee - 27 June 2024 - in Women's News
<<Grieving Mothers of Kurdistan Boycott Sham Presidential Elections: A
Powerful Call for Justice and Accountability
In a bold and heartfelt statement, a group of grieving mothers from
Kurdistan has publicly announced their boycott of the upcoming sham
presidential elections in Iran. These mothers, known for their
relentless pursuit of justice, have accused the regime's candidates of
being responsible for and complicit in the government’s crimes and
killings.
Boycott of the Sham Presidential Elections
The mothers have declared their decision to boycott what they describe
as the <theatrical presidential elections> in Iran. They view
participation in these elections as a betrayal of their quest for
justice.
Condemnation of the Regime
The statement explicitly condemns the Iranian regime, holding it
accountable for the widespread execution and direct shooting of young
men and women. The mothers assert that thousands of families have been
plunged into mourning due to these actions over the recent years.
Demand for Justice
Central to their declaration is the unwavering demand for the trial and
punishment of those responsible for the deaths of their children. The
mothers vow to continue their fight for justice until those guilty of
these crimes are held accountable.
Rejection of the Candidates
The group denounces the regime’s candidates, accusing them of being
complicit in the regime’s atrocities. They criticize these candidates
for speaking about freedom and improvement in the current situation
while being directly involved in the crimes.
Solidarity and Persistence
Emphasizing their resolve, the mothers state that they will not cease
their pursuit of justice until their demands are met. They also call
upon the people of Kurdistan and freedom-loving Iranians to join their
boycott of the elections.
Endorsement of the Justice-Seeking Movement
The statement concludes with a strong endorsement of the justice-seeking
movement, underscoring their collective commitment to continue their
struggle against the injustices perpetrated by the regime.
The statement signed by 24 families of victims who lost their lives at
the hands of the clerical regime, serves as a powerful reminder of the
ongoing struggle for justice in Iran. The grieving mothers of Kurdistan
are among millions of Iranians who have boycotted the regime's
fraudulent election and will not participate in it.
Full Text of the Statement:
<To the honorable people of Kurdistan and the freedom-loving people of
Iran,
As a collective of grieving and justice-seeking mothers, we will boycott
the theatrical presidential elections of Iran. In recent years, the
ruling regime in Iran has mourned thousands of families with executions
and direct shootings. Thousands of our young sons and daughters have
been executed and shot in the streets for protesting inequality,
unemployment, oppression, and lack of freedom. Yet, on the eve of these
sham elections, the regime's candidates, who are themselves responsible
for and partners in these crimes, speak of freedom and improving the
current situation. As the grieving mothers of Kurdistan, we will not
abandon our quest for justice until we achieve our right to prosecute
and punish the criminals who unjustly executed and shot our children. We
condemn the ruling regime in Iran as a whole and will not participate in
any so-called theatrical elections.
Long live the justice movement,

<<Iran Sentences 2019 Protest Victim to 31 Months in Prison
A victim of the Islamic Republic's crackdown on the November 2019
protests has now been sentenced to 31 months in prison by the Iranian
judiciary.
According to a report from the Hengaw Organization for Human Rights,
Matin Hasani, a resident of Bukan, was recently convicted by Branch 101
of the city's Criminal Court. He faces charges of <inciting or provoking
people to fight and kill each other with the intent to disrupt national
security> and <propaganda against the Islamic Republic.> The sentencing
comes after his court appearance on May 16. The young man's legal
troubles began on January 23, when security forces raided his family's
home in Bukan and arrested him. After spending a month in Bukan Central
Prison, Hasani was temporarily released on February 22 on bail. Hasani's
case has drawn attention due to his status as a victim of the November
2019 protests. During the demonstrations, he sustained a severe injury
to his left eye from gunfire by Iranian security forces. His ordeal
continued in December 2019 when he was arrested by security force agents
at a medical center in Tehran while seeking treatment for his eye

<<Political Prisoners Protest Iran's Presidential Election
In an act of defiance, political prisoners in Tehran's notorious Evin
Prison staged a protest against Iran's upcoming presidential election
just one hour after the final debate between candidates ended. The
demonstration began in the women's ward, where prisoners chanted slogans
such as <Death to the dictator> and <Woman, life, freedom.> The protest
lasted approximately 15 minutes and quickly spread to four adjacent
men's wards. This latest act of dissent follows a series of statements
and messages from political prisoners in recent days, calling for a
boycott of the presidential election. Several high-profile detainees,
including Ahmadreza Haeri, Narges Mohammadi, Golrokh Iraei, and
Mehboubeh Rezaei, have publicly urged Iranians to abstain from voting.
The call for a boycott has extended beyond Evin Prison. Javad
Lalmohammadi, a political prisoner held in Vakil Abad prison in Mashhad,
used a phone call to encourage citizens to refrain from participating in
the election. Lalmohammadi said, <Those who saw the unjustly shed blood
of Iranian youth, their blinded eyes, and the suffering of political
prisoners, yet still participate in the elections, deserve no other
adjective than a traitor.> Calls for a boycott come amid growing
criticism of the electoral process and concerns about human rights in
Iran.
Critics argue that the election lacks genuine choice and does not
reflect the people's will. The presidential election is scheduled for
June 28. The snap election was necessitated by President Ebrahim Raisi's
death in May.>>
