Displaced women of Afrin
Jinha - Womens News Agency - Sept. 18, 2024 - by HESNA MIHEMED
<<Displaced women of Afrin: We will never accept surrender
"We will never accept surrender despite all the difficulties," said the displaced women of Afrin, who are subjected to the ongoing Turkish attacks and the siege imposed on Shahba by the Syrian government.
Shahba- The Turkish state and Turkish-backed factions attacked and occupied Afrin, displacing thousands to Shahba. However, they are targeted by the ongoing Turkish state in Shahba. On September 7, a displaced person of Afrin named Xalid Mihemed was killed in a Turkish attack on the town of Bilbile. On September 9, a Turkish attack killed a citizen named Mihemed Sadiq Omar and injured two children named Zeyneb Faysel Cined Omar (4) and Ehmed Faysel Cined Omar (6). The Turkish attacks on the villages of Shahba, Sherawa and Shera continue. In an interview with NuJINHA, displaced women of Afrin condemn the attacks of the Turkish state and Turkish-backed factions against displaced people.
'Our resistance will continue'
"The Turkish state attacks North and East Syria and targets civilians," said Emel Qehreman, a displaced woman of Afrin living in Shahba. "The aim of the Turkish attacks is to annihilate the Kurdish people. The Turkish state should know that we will never accept surrender despite its attacks. We are not afraid of the enemy's attacks and we will always resist the Turkish attacks. The Turkish attacks particularly target the gains and successes that women have achieved thanks to the revolution. They target women to break the resistance of the Kurdish people. We stay in Shahba so that we can return to Afrin one day. Our resistance will continue until we return to our homeland."
'Turkish attacks target women and children'
Ceylan Demirci, another displaced woman of Afrin, condemned the Turkish attacks and said, "We will keep staying in Shahba until Afrin is liberated. We were displaced to Shahba but we are subjected to the Turkish attacks that target women and children. Our message to Erdogan and his factions is; we will not leave Shahba until Afrin is liberated. We have been resisting in Shahba for seven years and our resistance will continue until we return to Afrin. We face both the ongoing Turkish attacks and the siege imposed by the Damascus government (Syrian government). They aim to break the resistance of the people. We are ready to endure all kinds of difficulties but we will never accept surrender." >>

Qimet Kilinç.
Jinha - Womens News Agency - Sept. 17, 2024 - by NUPELDA DENIZ
<<Call to fight against Turkish attacks on Makhmour
"Although the Makhmour refugee camp is under the protection of the United Nations and the Iraqi government, it is attacked by the Turkish state every day," said Qimet Kilinç.
Makhmour- The Kurdish people, who were displaced to Iraq due to the oppressive Turkish policies in the 90s and settled in the Martyr Rustem Cudi Camp (Makhmour Refugee Camp), have been subjected to the ongoing Turkish attacks supported by the Kurdistan Democratic Party (KDP). Turkish airstrikes targeted the camp twice between September 10 and 16. On September 10, a Turkish drone targeted a house belonging to the Peace Mothers movement in the camp, injuring three members of the movement. On September 16, a Turkish drone targeted a civilian house in the camp.
The people of the camp have been subjected to Turkish attacks since 2017, said Qimet Kilinç, coordinating member of Iştar Assembly in the camp. "Although our camp is under the protection of the United Nations and the Iraqi government, it is attacked every day. The Turkish state aims to annihilate the Kurdish people, who organize their life with the ideology and philosophy of leader Apo (Kurdish leader Abdullah Ocalan). Everyone knows that the Makhmour camp is the home of political refugees and civilians. The people of the camp were displaced to Iraq due to the oppressive policies of the Turkish state. As the people of the camp, we protect ourselves."
'Silence shows their cooperation'
Speaking about the recent drones attacks on the camp, she said, "The Turkish state targeted the house of the Peace Mothers movement. Children, women and the whole society are affected by every attack." On August 15, Turkiye and Iraq had a meeting in Ankara and signed a memorandum of understanding on military, security and counter-terrorism cooperation. "The attacks on the camp are the result of the dirty memorandum signed by the Turkish state, the Iraqi government and the KDP. Human rights organizations and the United Nations protecting the rights of people and displaced people remain silent against the ongoing attacks. Their silence shows their cooperation."
Call on the Kurdish people to take a stand
The KDP and the Iraqi government have cooperated with the Turkish state for their own interests, Qimet Kilinç emphasized, adding: "The Turkish state, in cooperation with the KDP, aims to occupy Southern Kurdistan. The KDP and the Iraqi have cooperated with the Turkish state for their own interests to annihilate the Kurdish people. We call on the people of Southern Kurdistan to take a stand against the attacks. We call on international human rights organizations to fulfill their responsibilities. The Iraqi government opens the airspace of Iraq to Turkish warplanes and drones, claiming that they protect the people of Makhmour. We condemn the Turkish state and the occupying forces." At the end of her speech, Qimet Kilinç called on the Kurdish people to fight against the attacks. "As Kurdish people, we must unite against the attacks. Despite the attacks, our struggle for freedom will continue." >>

Malala Yousafzai
Jinha - Womens News Agency - Sept. 16, 2024
<<'The courage of Afghan women is a source of inspiration'
"The courage of Afghan women is a source of inspiration," Malala Yousafzai, a women's rights activist and the youngest Nobel Prize laureate, said in a social media post on Sunday.
News Center- "Today, I want to share a message with my powerful Afghan sisters. You are fighting back against the Taliban's crimes, as they ban you from going to school and try to erase you from public life. You continue resisting. Your courage is a source of inspiration," Malala Yousafzai, a women's rights activist and the youngest Nobel Prize laureate, said in a social media post on Sunday. In a video on social media platform X, she said, "Afghanistan is marking another dark anniversary. It is hard to process that it has been three years since the Taliban banned girls from going to school. This is all part of their ruthless, misogynist campaign to deny women and girls participation in work, education and public life." Speaking directly to Afghan women, she said, "You are the true force of resistance against the Taliban. You refuse to give up hope. Millions of you also want to keep learning even if you are banned from school. You are finding creative ways to learn from your homes, through mobile phones, television and radio. Your power and courage are what motivate me. You keep me hopeful. But today is a dark reminder of all the Taliban have stolen from you. I want you to know that I, along with so many allies from around the world, will keep fighting with you to hold the Taliban accountable. People everywhere are listening and standing in solidarity. Together, we will not rest until your rights are restored." >>

Laila Majdouli
Jinha - Womens News Agency - Sept. 13, 2024 - by HANAN HARITE
<<'It is time to break the barrier of silence'
Human rights activist Laila Majdouli stresses the importance of women's solidarity across continents against violence and femicide, saying: "It is time to break the barrier of silence."
Morocco- Every day, women are subjected to oppression, all forms of violence and killed all around the world due to the patriarchal policies. On August 9, 2024, a 31-year-old female trainee doctor was raped and killed in a seminar room on campus at R. G. Kar Medical College and Hospital in Kolkata, West Bengal, India. The incident sparked protests across the country. On August 16, thousands of women flocked to the streets to protest the incident holding banners reading, "Jin, Jiyan, Azadi". There is an alarming increase in oppression and all forms of violence against women and femicide all around the world, stressed Laila Majdouli, a Moroccan human rights activist. "The cases of gender-based violence are on the rise, causing femicide. Moroccan civil society condemns violence against women in Morocco and in the whole world. Femicide is a global phenomenon and all people should unite to combat this phenomenon and break the barrier of silence. Gender-based violence causes more crimes committed against women and girls. Women should not remain silent against violence; they should report it in order to break the barrier of silence."
'Women's movements should unite'
The global feminist network plays an important role in eliminating gender-based violence and ending injustice and discrimination, Laila Majdouli stressed, adding: "Women's movements all around the world should unite to protect women. Women's solidarity across continents is one of the mechanisms to combat gender-based violence. International forms should be organized to be the voices of victims of violence against women and put pressure on governments to strengthen laws against gender-based violence."
'Protective laws should be enacted'
Laila Majdouli thinks that the activities of civil society organizations against gender-based violence are valuable, "However, governments fail to protect women against violence. Protective laws should be enacted by governments to combat gender-based violence. More awareness-raising activities should be carried out to eliminate the culture of violence created by the patriarchal mindset. We hope more protective laws will be enacted to protect women from all forms of gender-based violence." >>
