<<Woman arrested in Iran for sending photos of poisoned students to 'hostile
media'
A woman has been arrested in central Iran's Qazvin city for allegedly
taking photos and videos of poisoned schoolgirls and sending them to
foreign <hostile media>, Anadolu News Agency reports. In a statement on
Thursday, published in local media, the Prosecutor General in Qazvin
said the arrested woman was responsible for <publishing and sending
pictures> of students recently poisoned in the city to <hostile media>
based abroad. The mysterious poisoning of schoolgirls in different
cities in Iran in recent months has sent ripples of shock across the
country. The first cases of these serial poisonings were reported last
November in central Iran's Qom city, when dozens of schoolgirls were
hospitalised for nausea, headache, breathing difficulties, cough and
body pain. From Qom, the wave spread to other cities, including the
capital, Tehran, with more than 1,200 schoolgirls admitted to hospitals
for poisoning-related symptoms countywide. Some reports put the figure
even higher. Earlier this month, a fresh wave of serial poisonings was
reported in at least three Iranian cities, with dozens of schoolgirls
transferred to hospitals, reports said. Commenting on the woman's
arrest, whose identity has not been disclosed, the Prosecutor's office
in Qazvin said images of girls at one of the schools in the city had
appeared in <hostile media>, referring to the Persian-language media
based in the US and UK. It said the CCTV camera footage at one of the
hospitals was examined, which showed one woman taking photos and videos
of poisoned girls who were admitted there. The statement further added
that the woman was also seen around the school where the incident of
poisoning was reported. Thereafter, a judicial case was registered
against the accused woman and she was taken into police custody <on
charges of spreading lies and propaganda> against the Iranian government.
Meanwhile, a parliamentary fact-finding committee investigating serial
poisonings in Iran is supposed to submit its report in May.>>

<<Iranian Authorities Turn a Blind Eye to Systematic Poisoning of
Schoolgirls
On Wednesday, April 19, 2023, the clerical regime continued the
poisoning of schoolgirls in Iran.
Ummat Girls' High School and Yahyavi School in Tehran, Nasiri and Abuzar
Girls' High Schools in Urmia, Chamran Art School in Hamedan, and
Pishtazan High School in Dezful were targeted by chemical attacks. The
students were poisoned with toxic gas, and many were sent to medical
centers for treatment. Since November, the regime's officials have
responded with blatant lies and negligence to the serial chemical
attacks, which have targeted primarily female high school students.
Despite the regime's claims of arresting individuals responsible for
throwing sprays, no action has been taken to investigate the root cause
of the poisoning. MP, media Criticize Lack of Action on Poisoning of
Schoolgirls. Ahmad Hossein Fallahi, a member of the parliamentary
education commission, criticized the government's lack of action to
identify the perpetrators. He called for security institutions to take
the matter more seriously, stating the poisoning of female students goes
beyond the actions of a few students. Fallahi said, <After more than
five months, it seems that the focus of the Interior Minister and
military institutions is on installing cameras and identifying women
without hijab, not the perpetrators of poisoning.... The security
institutions should follow up this issue more seriously because it seems
that they are dealing with this matter very superficially. This approach
may not have good consequences for the state.... The news media and
official news agencies claimed that a number of people have been
arrested for actions such as throwing sprays, etc. But in my opinion,
the poisoning of students is beyond the mischief of a few students.>
(The state-run khabaronline.ir, April 19, 2023) The state-run
Eghtesaad24.ir also wrote, <Five months have passed since the
publication of the first news of students being poisoned in schools,
there is still no news of identifying the perpetrators. In such
circumstances, the authorities call the poisoning of students as
<discomfort> and <childish mischief.> (The state-run Eghtesaad24.ir,
April 19, 2023) UN
Urged to Investigate Poisoning of Schoolgirls
Forty-four years of impunity of the clerical regime's leaders have
emboldened them to commit more heinous acts, such as poisoning of
schoolgirls. The Iranian Resistance calls for an independent
investigation by the UN international fact-finding committee to expose
the regime's systematic crimes against students. It is profoundly
concerning that innocent students continue to be targeted and killed by
the regime while authorities continue to downplay the situation. The
world must stop these crimes against humanity and hold those responsible
accountable for their actions.>>

News Center- The Islamic Republic of Iran continues to target girls'
schools in Iran and Rojhilate Kurdistan. According to local reports,
many schoolgirls have been hospitalized today after poisoning at two
schools in Urmia. Some students are in critical condition. Since
November 2022, thousands of schoolgirls have been poisoned in the
country. People and activists accuse the Iranian regime of intentionally
poisoning the schoolgirls in order to quell the nationwide protests that
have continued for more than seven months. Some local sources say that
hospital workers and school administrators have been warned to keep
silent about the poisonings at schools.>>

<<Millions of Iranian Schoolgirls at Risk of <Deliberate> Poisoning,
Group Warns
Amnesty International warned on April 18 that the rights to education,
health and life of millions of schoolgirls in Iran are at risk amid what
it called <ongoing chemical gas attacks deliberately targeting girls'
schools> in the country. Since November 2022, 13,000 students have
reportedly suffered symptoms including nausea, fainting, headaches,
coughing, breathing difficulties and heart palpitations, with many
requiring treatment in hospital.
Hundreds of girls' schools have been targeted in what the London-based
human rights group described as <a campaign that appears to be highly
coordinated and organized.> The poisonings have sparked fear and anger
among schoolgirls, their parents and wider Iranian society, and prompted
calls for increased security measures at schools, with several
principals reportedly asking parents to keep their children at home.
Last month, police announced the arrest of 110 people for alleged
involvement in smuggling <stink bombs,> which they claimed was the main
cause of the poisonings.
But according to Amnesty International, the authorities <sought to
coverup> the gravity and scale of the attacks and have yet to <carry out
effective and independent investigations or take meaningful steps to end
them.> The minister of health has claimed there was <no hard evidence>
that schoolgirls were being poisoned and said that <more than 90 percent
of the ill health was caused by stress and mischief.> Other officials
dismissed the symptoms experienced by schoolgirls as <anxiety,>
<excitement> and <mental contagion.> Meanwhile, the authorities have
tried to <silence public calls for accountability by subjecting
distressed parents, schoolgirls, teachers, journalists and others to
violence, intimidation and arrest for peacefully protesting or reporting
on the authorities' failure to stop the poisonings,> Amnesty
International said. UN experts have criticized the Islamic Republic for
failing to protect the schoolgirls, prevent further attacks and conduct
swift investigations.
....
Many Iranians suspect actors tied to the state or pro-government
vigilantes of being involved in the gas attacks.
Amnesty International called on the judiciary to immediately conduct an
<independent, thorough and effective> investigation into the poisonings
and bring to justice anyone found responsible in fair trials. The
authorities must also ensure that <girls have equal and safe access to
education and are protected from any form of violence, it said, adding
that an independent international delegation must be granted access to
the country to investigate the attacks.>>

<<Chemical Attacks on Schools Continue in Iran While the Regime Dodges
Responsibility
Chemical attacks on schools continued in Iran on Tuesday, April 18,
2023. School girls in Tehran and several other cities in Iran, including
Karaj, Islamshahr, Kermanshah, Ahvaz, and Urmia, were poisoned in
chemical attacks on schools by agents of Khamenei. Schools affected
include Kowsar, Sa’ed, Abrar, Pardis Sharif, and Makkeh, as well as
Ghias Educational Complex in Tehran, Tahzeeb and Rezvan in Karaj, Saipa
in Islamshahr, Nabovvat, Esmat, and Effat in Kermanshah, Setayesh High
School in Ahvaz, Iman in Saqqez, and Baharan in Ardabil, Hadaf High
School in Urmia.
Many students were taken to medical centers, some reportedly in serious
condition.
This follows a similar incident that occurred the day before, where at
least 23 schools in various cities were attacked with poison gas and
sent to medical centers. Despite the apparent severity of the situation,
the state-run Fars News Agency has attempted to downplay the issue and
shift the blame onto the students themselves. In a report published
today, April 18, 2023, Fars News Agency claimed that <more than 90
percent of the cases were committed by students, and the mischief of the
teenage period. The extensive media coverage has created competition
among students in this regard. In a few cases, some teachers have
committed violations, and the case of their violation is being
processed.... The cause for the discomfort of the students transferred
to the medical centers is about 80% abuse and about 20% indoctrination.
Of course, in some cases, they suffer from asthma, lung or heart
problems, and the irritation of smelly substances or stress has led to
their discomfort.> The above claims made by the Fars News Agency are a
part of the Iranian regime's ongoing attempts to deflect blame and avoid
responsibility for the poisoning of school students.
Khamenei continues to poison girl students to postpone the outbreak of
another nationwide uprising amid the country's economic crisis. The
international community should hold the regime accountable and demand
admission to the country for the UN international fact-finding mission
to comprehensively investigate this heinous crime of poisoning innocent
schoolgirls.>>

<<UK Lawyer Urges UN Watchdog to Probe Iran School Poisonings
A London-based Iranian lawyer has called on the UN's chemical-weapons
watchdog to probe an ongoing wave of poisoning attacks that has sickened
thousands of schoolgirls across Iran over more than four months. In a
letter addressed to the director-general of the Organization for the
Prohibition of Chemical Weapons (OPCW), Hamid Sabi requested the
appointment of an inspector to <investigate the use of chemical
substances by the Islamic Republic of Iran and its agents in the
schools.> Sabi told IranWire on April 18 that OPCW Director-General
Fernando Arias is required, under the organization's convention, to
appoint an inspector when a substantial complaint is made to him. The
inspector should then launch an investigation to collect information.
<The first thing is to carry out tests on those who have been affected
and poisoned to see what sort of chemical is being used,> he said. Since
November 2022, more than 13,000 students have reportedly suffered
symptoms including nausea, fainting, headaches, coughing, breathing
difficulties and heart palpitations, with many requiring treatment in
hospital for respiratory symptoms .
On April 18 alone, poisonings were reported in girls' schools in at
least seven cities.
The poisonings have sparked fear and anger among schoolgirls, their
parents and wider Iranian society. The attacks prompted calls for
increased security measures at schools across the country, with several
principals reportedly asking parents to keep their children at home.
Sabi said the continued and widespread attacks suggests that <some
central authority is behind> them. The lawyer pointed out that the
similarity of the symptoms suffered by the affected pupils suggests that
they have been <poisoned with similar substances.>
....
<It is a serious problem if the government is using it to create fear or
whatever reason they have,> Sabi said.
When asked if he believed the OPCW will appoint an inspector, he
answered: <I think it is quite probable.> >>

subjected to a chemical attack. After the chemical attacks, more than a
hundred schoolgirls were transferred to a hospital in Bukan.
'More than a hundred schoolgirls were taken to the emergency department'
In an interview with NuJINHA, a hospital worker said, <It seems as if

hospital. More than a hundred female students were taken to the
emergency department. There were a lot of patients and their parents

in the intensive care unit while one of them was transferred to a
hospital in Urmia when her condition deteriorated.> Speaking about a
16-year-old student, she said, <A student named Nyan Karimi had an

Iranian authorities fail to address the poisoning of female students
During the past 5 months, the poisoning of female students in more than
500 girls' schools in more than 110 cities by the agents of Khamenei and
the Revolutionary Guards (IRGC) has continued. But the security,
political and propaganda institutions of the mullahs' regime are engaged
in secrecy, cover-up, and lying without finding a solution. Pershang
Ranjbari, the director of Meraj High School for Girls in Saqqez,
resigned from her position in protest of the poisoning of female
students and chemical attacks on schools and the failure to identify the
perpetrators. Poisoning of female students is a heinous and systematic
crime carried out on Khamenei's order to prevent the outbreak of
protests. The Women's Committee of the National Council of Resistance of

end this human tragedy. The committee urges the UN international

<<National Wave of Schoolgirl Poisonings Tortures Iran
A series of chemical attacks against girls' schools were reported in at
least a dozen cities across Iran on Monday. Reports and videos on social
media reveal that students were poisoned at schools in Isfahan, Sanandaj,
Ravansar, Saqqez, Bukan, Diwandrareh, Urmia, Gilangharb, Tabriz, Dezful,
and Mahdasht. Since November 2022, more than 13,000 students have
suffered symptoms including nausea, fainting, headaches, coughing,
breathing difficulties and heart palpitations, with many requiring
treatments in hospital. The poisonings have sparked fear and anger among
schoolgirls, their parents and wider Iranian society. In response to the
chemical attack on Tabriz Asman girls' high school Monday, the families
of students gathered outside the building, according to reports. Videos
from the city of Sanandaj also show students being taken to hospital, as
frantic parents sought help and worried families waited outside.
Widespread poisonings were also recorded in at least nine cities on
Sunday including schools in Tehran, Islamshahr, Karaj, Ardabil, Urmia,
Qazvin, Babolsar, Hersin, and Shiraz. The attacks prompted calls for
increased security measures at schools across the country, with several
principals reportedly asking parents to keep their children at home.
After Iranian authorities announced arrests over the poisonings last
month, UN experts criticized the Islamic Republic for failing to protect
the schoolgirls, prevent further attacks and conduct swift
investigations. The experts said the attacks might be <orchestrated to
punish girls> for their involvement in nationwide protests sparked by
the September 2022 death of Mahsa Amini in police custody.>>

Families demand justice for poisoned students.
On Saturday, April 15, 2023, students' families in Shahin-Shahr took to
the streets to protest the poisoning of their children. The protest,
held in front of the city's Education Department, was met with
repression, as security forces attacked the demonstrators and fired tear
gas. The families chanted slogans such as <Death to the child-killing
regime,> <Death to the dictator,> and <Death to the perpetrators of
poisoning,> while also declaring that they would not accept humiliation.
Sadly, the situation is not isolated to Shahin-Shahr. At least eight
regional schools and conservatories have been attacked by chemical
agents and toxic gas, including Manouchehr Ansari Girls' School, Al-e
Yassin Girls' Conservatory, and Fahmideh Elementary School. Moreover,
students from several schools in Izeh, Sanandaj, Urmia, and Mahabad were
poisoned, with dozens taken to medical centers on April 15.
Health Minister denies student poisoning
Despite the clear evidence of poisoning, the regime's Health Minister,
Bahram Ainullahi, has refused to acknowledge the problem. He claimed
that <We decided to call it 'ill health' of the students because there
was no solid evidence for the students' poisoning.>
False confessions and torture
Additionally, security services have been pressuring students to falsely
confess to poisoning their classmates. Three young women, Setayesh
Darugheh, Erfaneh Honar, and Setayesh Amiri, have been arrested and
pressured to confess that they were involved in the poisoning of schools
in Larestan, Fars Province. Another young man, Alireza Bagheri, has also
been arrested on the same charge. In another case, Milad Manzarian, an
athlete and construction engineer, was arrested and brutally tortured to
make false confessions. The situation is deeply troubling, and it is
essential that the international community takes notice and acts to
protect the rights and safety of Iranian students.>>

Iran's Top Sunni Cleric Blasts Country's <Closed-Minded> Leadership
Iran's most prominent Sunni cleric again used his Friday sermon to
preach religious tolerance and to criticize the policies of the
country's Shia leadership, amid popular calls for the overthrow of the
Islamic Republic. The ideologies of those <closed-minded individuals who
hold positions of power> have <hindered progress and led to irrational
decisions,> Molavi Abdulhamid, the Sunni Friday prayer leader of the
south-eastern city of Zahedan, said on April 14.
....
In his latest Friday sermon, Molavi blamed the Islamic Republic for a
wave of poisonings that has affected girls' schools over the past
months, saying, <People do not accept your claim and believe that the
poisonings are deeply rooted in the system.> <The culprit must be
connected to an organization capable of attacking multiple schools in a
single day. Regardless of whether the perpetrators is from within or
outside the government, he must be identified and stopped by force,> he
said. Molavi expressed <surprise> over the fact that those behind the
poisonings have not been identified, since the country's security
apparatuses are using sophisticated surveillance systems to identify
violators of the Islamic Republic's mandatory headscarf rules. He also
criticized the government's discriminatory policies toward Afghan
immigrants, including the closure of prayer halls for Afghans in some
cities. After prayers, hundreds of demonstrators took to the streets of
Zahedan for a silent march out of respect for the month of Ramadan.
Internet monitor NetBlocks reported a <significant disruption> to
connectivity in the city, calling the incident <the latest in a cycle of
internet shutdowns targeting anti-government protests during Friday
prayers.> Zahedan residents have been holding protest rallies every
Friday since September 30, when security forces killed nearly 100
people, in the deadliest incident so far in the nationwide
demonstrations triggered by the September death of a 22-year-old Kurdish
woman, Mahsa Amini, in police custody.>>
