Editorial by G. d'A.: Dear reader, as a webmaster also I constantly have to guard the read-ability of the 'Cryfreedom'-outlet and sometimes decisions need to be made to have it be for your convenience and moreso in total support of the women-led revolt in Iran which inevitably will be a grand Victory. Still, choices must be made always and so I've decided to, for now, embed all the actual news about the 'NO-hijab; 'Biological terror attscks against schoolgirls'; 'Iranian journalists under siege'; 'Blinding as a weapon' and 'The hanging spree' as part of the 'Actual news' updates of the Iran 'Woman, Life, Freedom' section. But, if need be and urgent attention and action is needed concerning the above mentioned topics it will get an extra emphasized place as part of the actual news page-layout. Nejat Anvar Hamidi
NCRI - Womens committee - 13 June 2024 - in Women's News
<<Political Prisoner Nejat Anvar Hamidi Deprived of Medical Treatment
The political prisoner Nejat Anvar Hamidi has been denied medical treatment on the orders of the authorities at Sepidar prison in Ahvaz. Nejat Anvar Hamidi, who suffers from thyroid dysfunction, high blood pressure, elevated blood lipids, and chronic headaches, also has cataracts in both eyes. Due to the lack of medical attention, she has experienced bleeding from her eyes. Despite her heart disease necessitating medical treatment and surgery, prison authorities deliberately prevent her from obtaining sick leave as a form of torture. Nejat Anvar Hamidi, who is nearly 70 years old and also suffers from back and knee arthritis, attributes her heart and eye problems to the harsh prison conditions. She is currently held at Sepidar prison in Ahvaz. Expert doctors have recommended that she undergo surgery outside the prison under the care of experienced medical staff. However, both the prison authorities and the judiciary have opposed her receiving treatment and surgery outside the prison.
Political prisoner Nejat Anvar Hamidi is 67 and married with a daughter.
She was imprisoned for 28 months during the 1980s for supporting the People's Mojahedin Organization of Iran (PMOI/MEK), the main Iranian opposition force. She and her husband and daughter were arrested for the second time in 2017. She was interrogated and sentenced to five years for <membership in dissident groups on the internet> and <propaganda against the state.> In March 2019, she was called to serve her jail time in the Sepidar Prison of Ahvaz among ordinary prisoners violating the principle of separation of crimes. Ms. Anvar Hamidi was later informed that she and her husband, Akbar Mohammadi, had been sentenced to another 15 years in prison for <membership in the PMOI/MEK> and <propaganda against the state> by the 4th Branch of the Justice Department of Ahvaz, while no new charges had been leveled against them.>>

Khogiani had previously been arrested by Iranian security forces, part of a broader crackdown on Sunni clerics and activists in the Sistan and Baluchistan province since the eruption of nationwide Woman, Life, Freedom protests. Several other Sunni clerics in the region as well as Kurdish areas have also been detained and given harsh sentences in recent months. The Baluch Activists Campaign, which reported the arrest, quoted a source saying intelligence agents raided Khogiani's home and apprehended him without providing any legal justification. <<Ghalibaf Appoints Azeri Ally Nikzad as Campaign Manager
Presidential candidate Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf has appointed Ali Nikzad as chief of staff for his campaign. Nikzad, a chameleon-like figure known for frequently shifting allegiances, was previously a minister in the Mahmoud Ahmadinejad administration and served on the election staff of Ebrahim Raisi in 2021. According to analysts, Ghalibaf likely aimed to achieve two goals by bringing Nikzad into his fold.
First, the appointment counters the rising profile of fellow ethnic Azeri politician Masoud Pezeshkian from the reformist ranks. Having an Azeri chief of staff could boost Ghalibaf's credentials among that influential minority.
Secondly, Nikzad's roots in Iran's conservative heartlands personify the rural, religious base Ghalibaf is courting.
He Ahmadinejad's cabinet from Ardabil province and held local administrative roles before that. The 58-year-old Nikzad first emerged on the national stage overseeing Ahmadinejad's Mehr Housing scheme during the 2000s oil boom era. After parting ways with the embattled Ahmadinejad in the 2010s, Nikzad realigned with Raisi and mainstream conservative fronts. Nikzad's appointment comes amid deep fractures among Iran's conservative ranks that have intensified ahead of the June 28 presidential vote.>>

<<Crackdown on Dissent Intensifies Ahead of Presidential Polls in Iran
As Iran prepares for its upcoming presidential election, the Islamic Republic is intensifying its crackdown on dissent through a wave of new executions and heavy prison sentences. Despite needing to portray a veneer of legitimacy during the election process, the Islamic Republic appears equally worried about potential protests or factional rifts flaring up. Its strategy has been a dual-track approach - allowing some political theatre around the polls while doubling down on repression. Last week alone, at least 8 prisoners were executed for various alleged crimes. Political prisoner Sunni cleric Mohammad Khezrnejad also received a death sentence for his involvement in the 2022 protests defending people's rights. Iran accounts for 75 per cent of all executions carried out globally, making it the world's top practitioner of capital punishment, according to the Human Rights Council. In response, prisoners across multiple Iranian jails have launched a hunger strike campaign every Tuesday for the past 20 weeks. Inmates in the women's wards and units of Evin, Ghezel Hesar, Karaj, Khorramabad, Khoi, Naqadeh, Mashhad and Saqqez prisons are demanding an end to executions, including canceling Khezranejad's death penalty.
The striking prisoners demand attention to their plight and support from the broader community.
According to a report by Amnesty International, Iran has reached its highest level of death sentence execution in the last eight years, with the judiciary of the Islamic Republic executing 853 people in 2023 alone. The report indicates that 481 executions, more than half of the total, were related to drug crimes. This marks an 89 per cent increase in the death penalty compared to 2022 when 255 people were executed for drug-related offenses. The latest numbers also show a 264 per cent increase compared to 2021, when 132 individuals faced execution for similar charges.>>

<<Iran Commutes Sunni Cleric's Death Sentence to Life Imprisonment
Iran's judiciary has commuted the death sentence of a Sunni cleric to a life imprisonment sentence. Iran's judiciary media outlet, Mizan News Agency, reported that Mohammad Khezrnejad's execution sentence was reduced after he <expressed remorse and commitment to good behavior> and requested an amnesty. Khezrnejad was arrested in November 2022 amid the anti-government unrest that swept through Iran. He and his son were detained in the city of Bukan after Khezrnejad delivered a speech at the funeral of a protester killed by security forces. The cleric was charged with <spreading corruption on Earth, threatening national security, and anti-Islamic Republic propaganda> by the Urmia court, presided over by Judge Reza Najafzadeh. His sentencing relied heavily on contested confessions that Khezrnejad said were extracted under duress during interrogations.
Human rights monitors have reported that Khezrnejad was also physically assaulted during the arrest process.
He has denied all the accusations against him as baseless.>>

Though briefly released on bail, he was re-arrested 10 months later. In September 2022, Razzaq was sentenced to 4 years and 3 months in prison by a revolutionary court over his online activities. During his imprisonment in Evin's Ward 209, which is controlled by the Intelligence Ministry, he revealed being assaulted by security forces. Despite the harsh conditions, Razzaq continued analyzing Iranian society through detailed conversations with fellow political prisoners like Saeed Madani and Mostafa Tajzadeh in the wake of the 'Woman, Life, Freedom' protest movement.>>

<<Iranian Protester Takes Own Life Amid Security Forces Pressure
Farhad Beigi Garrosi, a detainee of the 2022 protests, has taken his own life in Sahneh city of Kermanshah province. According to the Hengaw Human Rights Organization, Garrosi committed suicide at his family home due to immense pressure from Iranian security forces. The 21-year-old had recently been summoned to turn himself in prison in anticipation of a potential transfer to Tehran's notorious Evin prison. Hengaw said that Garrosi had faced continuous harassment and intimidation by authorities for the past four months since his initial temporary release last winter on bail after over a year in custody. He was first arrested in the fall of 2022 amid nationwide protests sparked by Mahsa Amini's death in morality police custody.
The Iranian judiciary accused Garrosi of <participation in murder> for his alleged role in the killing of Basij militia intelligence chief Nader Bayrami in Sahneh. Another protester from the city, Reza Rasaei, has been sentenced to death on the same charge related to Bayrami's death and remains jailed in Kermanshah prison.>>

<<Disqualified Reformist Challenges Guardian Council's Decision
Several prominent figures disqualified from running in Iran's upcoming presidential election have issued statements protesting their exclusion and demanding that the Guardian Council explain its decision-making process. Eshaq Jahangiri, a reformist and former vice president in Hassan Rouhani's administration, called his disqualification <incompatible with the fundamental rights of the nation> in a June 10 statement. He urged the Guardian Council to publish the reasons for barring his candidacy. Jahangiri demanded that the Council clarify why he was disqualified, saying there is a <serious demand> for the process to be made transparent. In his statement, Jahangiri endorsed Masoud Pezeshkian as the only approved reformist candidate, praising him for his <honesty, courage, and clean hands in governance.> Abbas Akhondi, a disqualified reformist candidate, also sent a letter protesting his exclusion, which he deemed lacking <legal aspects> and an <oppression and persecution> against himself and his political allies who had nominated him. The vetting process by the hard-line Guardian Council has significantly narrowed the field ahead of the June 28 snap election called after the death of Ebrahim Raisi. Meanwhile, Ali Larijani, another disqualified candidate, criticized the Council's <non-transparent mechanism> in an open letter on June 10. He said he had intended to run due to Iran's <dangerous conditions,> including economic struggles and international tensions.>>
