Update December 23, 2023

Editorial by G. d'A.: Dear reader, as a webmaster also I constantly have to guard the read-ability of the 'Cryfreedom'-outlet and sometimes decisions need to be made to have it be for your convenience and moreso in total support of the women-led revolt in Iran which inevitably will be a grand Victory. Still, choices must be made always and so I've decided to, for now, embed all the actual news about the 'NO-hijab; 'Biological terror attscks against schoolgirls'; 'Iranian journalists under siege'; 'Blinding as a weapon' and 'The hanging spree' as part of the 'Actual news' updates of the Iran 'Woman, Life, Freedom' section. But, if need be and urgent attention and action is needed concerning the above mentioned topics it will get an extra emphasized place as part of the actual news page-layout. Thank you for being a reader and for your support of the 'Woman, Life, Freedom' revolution.

However, when needed a certain topic will be in yellow meaning it's a link to go that topic and will open in a new window. This does not count for the  above topics which, when clicked on, will still appear in a pop-up window and for now the 'old' lay-out 'till I worked that all out. Thank you. Gino d'Artali

Khsraw Beshaarat
Hengaw Organisation for Human Right - 15 may 2024
<<Iran Executed Kurdish religious prisoner Khsraw Beshaarat
The death sentence of Khsraw Besharat, a Kurdish religious prisoner from Mahabad, was carried out after he spent 15 years in Ghezel Hesar prison in Karaj. He was transferred to solitary confinement two weeks before his execution. According to a report received by the Hengaw Organization for Human Rights on Wednesday, May 15, 2024, Khsraw Besharat, who had been imprisoned for fifteen years, was executed in Ghezel Hesar prison in Karaj. Coinciding with the execution of one of his co-defendants, Anwar Khezri, Khsraw Besharat was also moved to solitary confinement on Wednesday, May 1, 2024. Strongly condemning the execution of Khsraw Besharat, the Hengaw Organization for Human Rights emphasizes that this political prisoner faced a death sentence through a process that was completely non-transparent, unfair, and illegal within the judicial system of the Islamic Republic of Iran. In addition to the execution of Anwar Khezri in recent weeks, four other individuals from Khsraw Besharat's co-defendants group, namely Davud Abdullahi, Ayoub Karimi, Qasim Abeste, and Farhad Salimi, were also executed in the same prison. Khsraw Besharat, Farhad Salimi, Anwar Khezri, Qasim Abeste, Davoud Abdullahi, Kamaran Shekha, and Ayoub Karimi were apprehended on December 7, 2009, by security forces and were subsequently transferred to the intelligence agency detention center in Urmia City. Branch 28 of the Tehran Revolutionary Court, under the leadership of Judge Moqiseh, handed down the death sentences for these prisoners. The charges against them in the alleged murder case of <Abdul Rahim Tina> included <action against national security,> <propaganda against the government,> <membership in Salafi groups,> and <corruption on earth.> The session for the accusations against these 7 Kurdish religious prisoners took place in March 2015, with the mentioned sentences officially communicated to them on May 25, 2016. It's noteworthy that the verdict was overturned by the 41st branch of the Iranian Supreme Court, headed by Judge Razini, in 2017. An appeal was made to the 15th branch of the Iranian Islamic Revolutionary Court in Tehran, where, in June 2017, Khsraw Besharat and six other co-defendants were again sentenced to death by Judge Abolqasem Salvati. This verdict was confirmed by the 41st branch of the Iranian Supreme Court with repeated pressure from the Iranian Intelligence Department in Urmia. On Monday, March 4, 2020, it was officially communicated to Mahmoud Walizadeh Tabatabai, the lawyer representing these seven Kurdish religious prisoners. These seven individuals were initially incarcerated in Gohardasht prison and were later transferred to Ghezel Hesar prison in Karaj on August 1, 2023, following the evacuation of Gohardasht prison.>>

Iranwire - 14 May 2024
Iran's Prisoners Continue to Protest Executions, Solitary Confinement
The <No to Executions Tuesdays> campaign by Iran's prisoners has entered the 16th week of their hunger strike, protesting the treatment of political prisoners Khosrow Besharat and Kamran Sheikheh. In a statement released on Tuesday, the group said that Basharat and Sheikheh had been transferred to solitary confinement in preparation for execution. The statement went on to compare the current situation to the horrors of the Auschwitz concentration camp. It argued that the psychological torture inflicted by prolonged solitary confinement before execution is crueler than the methods employed by the Nazis. <The agents of the Islamic Republic are subjecting these men to a horrific ordeal,> the statement read.
<Fourteen days of solitary confinement is a form of torture in itself,> it added. The statement also criticized the recent crackdown on dissent in Iran, including the increased presence of the morality police enforcing dress codes for women. The campaign members said the government is attempting to silence potential protests by repressing both activists on the streets and prisoners of conscience. The weekly hunger strike began in February and involved prisoners from various Iranian jails. Number of executions in Iran was 853 in 2023, which is the highest recorded since 2015 and marks a 48 per cent increase from 2022 in the aftermath of the Woman, Life, Freedom protests. The spike in death penalties has continued into 2024, with at least 95 recorded executions by March 20, according to Amnesty International.>>

Iranwire - May 8,2024
Prisoners Continue Their Hunger Strike on the 15th Week of <No to Execution> Campaign
Since April 20, at least 80 prisoners in Iran who had been sentenced to death have been executed in prisons across the country. Last week, the judiciary of the Islamic Republic silently executed Anwar Khezri, a Kurdish prisoner of conscience, after 15 years of torture and imprisonment. And, on Tuesday, May 7, in the 15th week of <#NoToExecution> campaign, prisoners in Evin, Ghezel Hesar, Khorramabad, Khoi, Naqadeh and other prisons in Iran went on a hunger strike. Besides protesting executions that have already been carried out, they also warned against the imminent execution of Khosro Besharat, a Kurdish political prisoner in Ghezelhessar Prison who has been moved to solitary confinement in anticipation of his execution, and called for solidarity to stop the execution. Protesting prisoners also emphasized that the death sentences issued for political prisoners and prisoners who are not well-known proves that the regime is determined to suppress and intimidate the people and, once again, called for solidarity to stop the execution machine. The hashtag #NoToExecution trended among Iranian social media users after a message posted on the X account of jailed Nobel Peace Prize laureate Narges Mohammadi announced that 61 women political prisoners in Evin Prison will go on a hunger strike on January 25. <The imprisoned women, to keep the names of the executed alive and to [save] hundreds of individuals in the prisons of the Islamic Republic awaiting execution, will resist,> the message read. The announcement followed the arbitrary execution of Mohammad Ghobadlou, a 23-year-old protester with a mental disability who was sentenced to death for allegedly killing a police officer during nationwide protests in September 2022.>>

Iranwire - 3 May 2024
<<Iran Executed 63 Prisoners in Just Two Weeks
The Islamic Republic's judiciary executed at least 63 prisoners over the past fortnight, a human rights organization reported. In a report released on Thursday, Iran Human Rights Organization disclosed that the Islamic Republic executed one person approximately every five hours during the past two weeks. According to the organization's findings, 63 prisoners were executed in Iranian prisons. The report also reveals that from the beginning of this year until the end of April, 171 individuals were executed across various prisons in Iran. Mahmoud Amiri-Moghadam, director of the Iran Human Rights Organization, emphasized the alarming frequency of executions, stating, <In the last two weeks, the Islamic Republic executed one person every five hours without incurring any cost.> Amiri-Moghadam underscored the concerning lack of international response, warning that the absence of reaction could embolden further executions. He said, <Nations committed to human rights, with diplomatic ties to the Islamic Republic, must speak out against this surge in executions in Iran.> According to statistics compiled by the human rights organization, April witnessed 71 executions across 24 different prisons in Iran, with 63 occurring within the final two weeks of the month. Among the 71 executed prisoners, 44 had been convicted on charges linked to drugs, 26 for <intentional murder,> and one for <rape.>
The victims included at least 16 Baluch citizens, six Afghan citizens, and three women.
According to a report by Amnesty International, Iran has reached its highest level of death sentence execution in the last eight years, with the judiciary of the Islamic Republic executing 853 people in 2023 alone. The report indicates that 481 executions, more than half of the total, were related to drug crimes. This marks an 89 percent rise in death penalties for drug-related offenses compared to 2022, when 255 people were executed.
The latest numbers also show a staggering 264 percent increase compared to 2021, when 132 individuals faced execution on similar charges.>>

Opinion by Gino d'Artali: My heart goes out to the foremost and especially executed people who had the courage to take a stand up against the mullahs' regime and/or against abusive boyfriends/husbands or relatives (in these cases the ones being executed because the women had the courage to defend themselves and in doing so killed the perpetrators) but... my belief says that one can only then kill another human out of self-defense and in all concerned cases execution is not an act of state-related self-defence. Period. However, in the past weeks approx. 25 people have been executed based on drug-related offences. And in this I personally am clear: drug-related offenders do harm the community in more than one way, either directly, family-members and others and part of their lives, and/or indirectly and do deserve to be severely punished. With an 'eye for an eye, tooth for a tooth' sentence? I daresay yes. In this I highly recommend to watch this movie:

<<Iran Summons Students Over Protest Against Rapper's Death Sentence
Another student has been summoned by the Evin Prosecutor's Office for protesting Toomaj Salehi's death sentence. The summons follows a sit-in protest at the Tehran Music House by Khashayar Sefidi and Motahareh Goonei against the death sentence imposed on rapper Toomaj Salehi. Security institutions have filed a case against them for this action. Goonei was arrested last week. An image of Sefidi's summons, published by the Amirkabir News Telegram Channel, shows he has five days to appear in court and defend himself. Sefidi, a master's student in music at Tehran University of Art, was previously suspended for a semester by the Ministry of Science. Goonei, a former dental student and political secretary of the Islamic Association of Tehran University, was arrested by IRGC intelligence last Wednesday.>>
