Solidarity with journalists in Gaza
Jinha - Womens News Agency 1 Mar 2024
<<36 news organizations express solidarity with journalists in Gaza
The leaders of 36 news organizations from across the world have joined
an open letter expressing their solidarity with journalists reporting in
Gaza.
News Center- The leaders of more than 30 news organizations from across
the world have joined an open letter affirming their solidarity with
journalists reporting in Gaza. The letter, coordinated by the Committee
to Protect Journalists (CPJ) with the support of the World Association
of News Publishers (WAN-IFRA), demonstrates strong and unified support
for colleagues reporting from Gaza in the deadliest conflict for
journalists ever documented by CPJ. <For nearly five months, journalists
and media workers in Gaza - overwhelmingly, the sole source of
on-the-ground reporting from within the Palestinian territory - have
been working in unprecedented conditions,> the letter reads. <These
journalists - on whom the international news media and the international
community rely for information about the situation inside Gaza -
continue to report despite grave personal risk.> The letter reminds the
international community that journalists are civilians and authorities
must protect journalists as noncombatants according to international
law. <Journalists are civilians and Israeli authorities must protect
journalists as noncombatants according to international law. Those
responsible for any violations of that longstanding protection should be
held accountable. Attacks on journalists are also attacks on truth. We
commit to championing the safety of journalists in Gaza, which is
fundamental for the protection of press freedom everywhere,> the letter
said.

Yazidi women
Jinha - Womens News Agency 1 Mar 2024
<<Yazidi women: We did not know there was such a day for women
Yazidi women say that they did not know there was such a day for women
before the genocide committed against them by ISIS. <We learned our
truth from the thoughts and philosophy of leader Apo.>
Shengal (Sinjar)- Women all over the world are getting ready for the
International Women's Day. NuJINHA spoke to Yazidi women in Shengal
about the International Women's Day. <Before the genocide, we did not
know there was such a day for women,> they said. <We did not know
anything about the International Women's Day before the genocide,> said
Seve Xwededa. <But after the genocide, we learned that women had such a
day. Before the genocide, we were hungry and thirsty but now we are
aware of everything, know everything. After the genocide, Yazidi women
began to organize themselves and now they play an important role in
their community. Despite everything, Yazidi women have rebuilt their
lives.>
'We learned our truth from the thoughts and philosophy of leader Apo'
Seve Xwededa emphasized that they, as Yazidi women, learned their truth
from the thoughts and philosophy of Kurdish leader Abdullah Öcalan. <We
educated ourselves with his thoughts and philosophy. I call on all
Yazidi women to improve and organize themselves so that they can play
their role.>
'All women should resist'
Delal Rev wished a happy International Womens Day to all women and
said, <When ISIS attacked us, the YJA-Star guerrillas, who came to
Shengal to defend us. Thanks to them, we are now alive and have achieved
many gains. They made great efforts for us and paved the way for us.
March 8 is a day of uprising for women's freedom. Before the genocide,
we did not know there was such a day for women. But since the genocide,
since we learned the thoughts and philosophy of leader Apo, we have been
aware of how this day is important for women.> Drawing attention to
femicide, Delal Rev called on all Yazidi women to <rise up. I call on
them not to accept the authority and oppression of men and get rid of
slavery. Women play an important role in all facets of life, including
military, politics and economy. All women should resist for their
rights.> >>

Rozelin Koşan
Jinha - Womens News Agency 1 Mar 2024 - by HESNA MIHEMED
<<Petition started in Shahba: We demand the physical freedom of leader
Apo
<We demand the physical freedom of leader Apo,> said Rozelîn Koşan while
talking about the petition demanding the physical freedom Kurdish leader
Abdullah Ocalan started in Shahba on February 12.
Shahba- The Afrin-Shahba Peoples Initiative started a petition
demanding the physical freedom of Kurdish leader Abdullah Ocalan on
February 12, 2024 as part of the <Freedom for Abdullah Ocalan, solution
to the Kurdish question> campaign. In an interview with NuJINHA, Rozelin
Koşan, Council member of Ehdas district in Afrin/Shehba Canton, spoke
about the petition.
'The CPT is responsible for the health of leader Apo'
The petition was started to demand the physical freedom of Kurdish
leader Abdullah Ocalan, Rozelin Koşan said, <The petition was started
across Afrin/Shehba Canton and it continues. We visit home by home to
collect signatures. We have already collected a significant number of
signatures and we keep collecting. Leader Apo has been isolated in
Imrali prison for 25 years. The international community remains silent
against the rights violations against him. The CPT (European Committee
for the Prevention of Torture) is responsible for the health of leader
Apo and must fulfill its duties.>
'We will always take to the streets'
Rozelin Koşan noted that they would always take to the streets to demand
the physical freedom of Kurdish leader Abdullah Ocalan. <After
collecting the signatures we will send them to the relevant authorities.
Another aim of the petition is to draw attention to the ongoing attacks
on North and East Syria. We will struggle until we ensure the physical
freedom of leader Apo.> >>

Dicle Muftuoglu
Jinha - Womens News Agency 29 Feb 2024
<<17 international organizations demand immediate release of Dicle
Muftuoglu
17 international human rights and journalists' organizations have
released a statement demanding the immediate release of journalist Dicle
Muftuoglu.
News Center- The third hearing of journalist Dicle Müftüoğlu, Co-Chair
of the Dicle Fırat Journalists Association and editor of Mesopotamia
Agency (MA), will be held at the Diyarbakır 5th High Criminal Court
today. 17 international organizations have released a statement
demanding the immediate release of Dicle Muftuoglu. <As the next hearing
of journalist Dicle Muftuoglu approaches on February 29, 2024, we call
for immediate attention to her case and her unjust detention. Muftuoglu,
Co-Chair of the Dicle Fırat Journalists Association (DFGD), has been
wrongfully held for over nine months on unsubstantiated terrorism
charges in a case that starkly violates international legal standards
and media freedom,> the statement said.
The statement is as follows:
A Miscarriage of Justice
<Muftuoglu's arrest occurred during a broader crackdown on Kurdish
activists and politicians by the Ankara Prosecutor's Office in April
2023. The circumstances of her detention, including her transfer to
Ankara and the conditions therein, have raised serious concerns about
her treatment and the respect for due process. In court, the charges
against Muftuoglu have not been substantiated by any credible evidence.
Her case is a textbook example of severe legal intimidation used to
silence journalists who are critical of the government.
Investigative and legal irregularities
The investigation into Ms. Muftuoglu's activities has been marked by
flagrant legal irregularities: Restriction of access to legal counsel
and investigation files, interrogation without legal representation, in
clear violation of legal norms and inhumane treatment during her
transfer, including prolonged handcuffing and deprivation of basic
needs. The indictment itself is deeply flawed, dedicating only a small
portion to Muftuoglu and failing to provide any substantial evidence of
her involvement in terrorist activities. Instead, it inappropriately
conflates her journalistic work with terrorism, using her association
with the Mesopotamia News Agency and attendance at public events as
supposed evidence of wrongdoing. As the undersigned organizations we
call upon the authorities in Turkey to immediately release Dicle
Muftuoglu and drop all charges against her. We call upon the
international community, media freedom, journalism and human rights
organisations to join us in condemning this unjust detention and to urge
Turkey to uphold its commitments to media freedom and human rights.>

Organizations in North and East Syria kicked off its activities for the

the policies of genocide, occupation and isolation with the free will of
women>. As part of the activities for the International Women's Day,
Kongra Star members held a three-day workshop in the city of Hasakah
with the participation of 22 men. In three days, men were given
information about the history of the International Women's Day, how
gender equality can be achieved and the system of Kongra Star.
'We struggle to change the patriarchal mindset'
<We held a three-day workshop for men as part of the activities for the
International Women's Day,> Helebça Ehmed, member of Kongra Star, said
in an interview with NuJINHA. <22 men participated in the workshop. The

revolution of achieving changes. We will build an equal society.>
'We apply the philosophy of leader Öcalan'
Mihemd Xewas, council member of the People's Municipality in Hasakah,

together and this can only be possible through education. We apply the
philosophy of leader Ocalan (Kurdish leader Abdullah Ocalan). March 8 is
a sacred day for us to gain our rights by struggling. Women have
achieved many gains since the women's revolution in Rojava. The
revolution brings many changes with it. Education is like bread and
