<<Monir Noori-Kia, 212th woman to be executed in Iran since 2007
Monir Noori-Kia was hanged this morning in the Central Prison of Mashhad
On Sunday, May 28, 2023, the clerical regime's Judiciary hanged a woman
named Monir Noori-Kia in the Central Prison of Mashhad. Further
information about this woman and the reason for her execution is
unavailable now. Fearing the eruption of the Iranian people's anger and
discontent and to prevent further uprisings, the mullahs' regime has
executed at least 150 prisoners, including 3 women, since April 21,
2023. With the execution of Monir Noori-Kia, the number of women
executed in Iran reaches 212 since 2007.
The world's record holder of the executions of women
The Iranian regime is the world's top record holder of the executions of
women. The Women's Committee of the National Council of Resistance of
Iran has compiled these women's names in a list called <List of Women
Executed in Iran since 2007.> No government in the world has executed so
many women. The list does not account for the tens of thousands of women
executed in Iran on political grounds.
The Iranian regime is the world's top record holder of executions of
women. The NCRI Women's Committee has previously mentioned that many
women executed by the mullahs' regime are victims of domestic violence
against women and have acted in self-defense.
An average of 15 women are executed in Iran per year
The Iranian regime open-handedly uses the death penalty as a form of
punishment. In many cases, religious and ethnic minorities, political
dissidents, and women are targets of the death penalty in a
discriminatory manner. In 2019, the mullahs' regime hanged 16 women in
tandem with increasing suppression and executions in Iran. In December
2019 alone, six women were executed by the regime in various Iranian
prisons. The regime also executed 18 women in 2021, seven from November
22 to December 21, 2021. According to the statistics on the executions
of women in Iran, compiled by the NCRI Women's Committee, at least 15
women were executed in Iran in 2022.>>

<<Man Executed In Public For Spreading <Corruption and Prostitution>
An Iranian prosecutor has announced the public execution of a man
convicted of spreading <corruption and prostitution,> according to local
media.
Mahmoud Nemati, the public and revolutionary prosecutor of the
north-western city of Maragheh, said on May 25 that the man engaged in
<illicit relationships with women and girls, documenting their
activities through filmed material,> Fars news agency reported. The man,
identified as Amir Mahdi, was apprehended in 2016, the prosecutor said,
and the Maragheh Revolutionary Court sentenced him to death on charges
of <corruption on Earth,> a sentence that was later upheld by the
Supreme Court. Human rights activists said at least seven people were
executed across the country on May 25 on drug and murder-related
charges.
The total number of executions in the past month has now surpassed 110.
Rights groups say the Islamic Republic has escalated executions in
recent weeks to instill fear in society following months-long nationwide
protests sparked by the September death of 22-year-old Mahsa Amini while
in police custody.>>

Center for Human Rights in Iran - May 24,

<<World Leaders Urged to Radically Increase Pressure on Iran to
Cease Executions
Islamic Republic Is Severely Violating International Laws
Governing Death Penalty. Protesters Hanged After Sham Trials, Minorities
Targeted for Capital Punishment.
- In a letter delivered to 75 governments around the world today,
the Center for Human Rights in Iran (CHRI) called on world leaders to
radically increase pressure on the Islamic Republic to cease the
flagrantly unlawful executions of protesters and others that are surging
in Iran. <The Islamic Republic is hanging young protesters-after
torturing them into making 'confessions' and convicting them in sham
trials - and targeting minorities for executions for lesser crimes, in
order to cow its restive population into silence,> said Hadi Ghaemi,
CHRI Executive Director. <Unless world leaders join forces to raise the
cost to the authorities in Iran of these state-sanctioned killings,
which severely violate international laws governing the death penalty,
the Islamic Republic's killing machine will gather steam and more people
will unjustly die on the gallows in Iran,> Ghaemi said. The letter notes
that seven protesters have already been hung and at least 49 face
charges that carry the death penalty. This follows the killing of over
500 protesters (including 71 children) by state security forces, the
maiming and blinding of untold others, the arrest of at least 22,000,
and the torture and rape of detainees (including children). These
atrocities have been described by the UN's top expert on Iran as crimes
against humanity.
CHRI's letter calls on the governments to:
Communicate directly to your Islamic Republic counterparts your
government's condemnation of these executions and warn clearly that
intensified and severe diplomatic and economic isolation will follow the
continuation of these abuses;
Summon Iranian ambassadors to directly communicate this
condemnation and warning;
Make public statements, unilaterally and in bilateral and
multilateral forums, including press conferences and upcoming meetings
of the OECD and UN General Assembly, forcefully condemning these
executions;
Actively work with allies, partners and other governments to
advance joint initiatives that impose diplomatic and economic
consequences for these unlawful executions;
Pursue accountability for these abuses via the principle of
universal jurisdiction, in which states can criminally investigate and
issue arrest warrants for Iranian officials responsible for
international crimes.
The full text of the letter sent to the foreign ministries and
embassies of 75 governments follows below:
We are writing to you with the utmost urgency regarding the
alarming surge in executions of protesters in Iran which are being
carried out in flagrant violation of international laws that govern the
application of the death penalty. Protesters are being hanged in Iran
after fast-tracked prosecutions and sham trials in which defendants are
denied independent counsel and convictions are based solely on
<confessions> extracted under torture.
Seven protesters have been executed since protests erupted across
Iran in September 2022, and at least 49 are facing the death penalty.
Together with the killing of over 500 protesters (including 71 children)
by state security forces, the maiming and blinding of untold others, the
arrest of at least 22,000, and the torture and rape of detainees
(including children), these atrocities have been described by the UN's
top expert on Iran as crimes against humanity. In addition, hundreds are
being executed in Iran for drug crimes that do not meet international
standards that allow capital punishment only for the most serious
crimes, and minority populations are being targeted for those
executions. This is state-sanctioned murder under any other name. Unless
governments worldwide communicate to the Islamic Republic the
unacceptability of these executions and radically increase pressure on
the authorities in Iran to stop them, more people will be hanged.
The Center for Human Rights in Iran (CHRI) urgently calls on your
government to:

<<Group Raises Alarm over Protesters Facing Execution in iran
Amnesty International has expressed <grave> concern that at least seven
people in Iran are at grave risk of execution after being unjustly
convicted in connection with ant-government protests, while dozens of
others face capital punishment. <The authorities have violated their
fair trial rights and subjected many to torture and other ill-treatment,
including floggings, electric shocks, death threats and sexual violence,>
the London-based human rights group said on May 23, adding that seven
people have already been executed in Iran in connection with the
protests after <grossly unfair trials marred by torture allegations.>
Amid a spike in executions in recent weeks, the Islamic Republic
arbitrarilly executed three protesters on May 19, sparking an outcry
both inside and outside Iran. The Islamic Republic has cracked down hard
on last year's widespread protests demanding fundamental economic,
social and political changes. More than 520 people were killed during
demonstrations and over 20,000 others were unlawfully detained,
activists say. Following biased trials, the judiciary has handed down
stiff sentences to protesters. Amnesty International urged the Iranian
authorities to <immediately quash all convictions and death sentences
stemming from the protests, refrain from seeking further death sentences,
and ensure that anyone charged with a recognizable criminal offence is
tried in proceedings meeting international fair trial standards without
recourse to the death penalty.> Those detained should be provided access
to their families and lawyers of their own choosing, and be protected
from torture and other ill-treatment, while torture allegations should
be investigated and those found responsible be brought to justice in
fair trials, the group said. It added that the authorities should also
grant independent observers access to trials and those on death row, and
immediately establish an official moratorium on executions with a view
to abolishing capital punishment.>>

<<Freedom-loving women march in Rasht in anti-regime protest
Freedom-loving women marched in the streets of Rasht, the capital of
Gilan Province, northern Iran, and chanted anti-regime slogans. They
protested the Iranian regime's spree of executions over the past month.
The mullahs' regime executed at least 122 prisoners over the past month
alone, including three protesters arrested last November during Iran
protests. The freedom-loving women of Rasht chanted slogans, vowing to
remain loyal to the fallen martyrs of Iran protests and continue their
path to the end. Freedom-loving women of Rasht chanted, <Death to the
Dictator,> <Death to the regime of Executions,> <Our silence would be
treachery and complicity in crime,> <Poverty, Corruption, High Prices,
we will continue until the regime is overthrown,> <The regime of
executions is short of breath,> <Gallows, executions, torture are no

<<Women in Tehran Evin Prison Protest <Heinous> Executions
MAY 22, 2023
A group of women political prisoners staged a protest in the courtyard
of Tehran's Evin prison following the execution of three protesters last
week.
The gathering, which took place on the evening of May 20, brought
together prominent activists such as Narges Mohammadi, Faezeh Hashemi,
Bahareh Hedayat, Golrokh Iraei, Vida Rabbani and Sepideh Qolian. In her
speech, Mohammadi called the executions a <brutal act of retribution.>
<Iran of today is vastly different from the Iran of the past, and the
recent executions will yield outcomes contrary to the government's
intentions,> she added. Iranian authorities escalated executions in
recent weeks to try to instill fear in society following months-long
nationwide protests sparked by the September death of 22-year-old Mahsa
Amini while in police custody. On May 19, three protesters were executed
after the authorities held rushed trials, pushed the accused into forced
<confessions> and denied them due process, sparking an outcry both
inside and outside Iran. During the protest in Evin prison's courtyard,
Hedayat urged political forces to develop a comprehensive plan to secure
the victory for the protesters.
Iraei underscored the importance of voicing protest over the ongoing
wave of executions. Silence would only <bolster the leaders and
perpetrators of these heinous crimes, as well as their international
allies who prioritize diplomatic relations over condemning such acts.>

<<The protest gathering by families of death row prisoners violently
suppressed
The protest gathering of the families of death row prisoners in Qezel
Hesar Prison turned into violence with the intervention of plainclothes
agents and special police guards. The families of death row prisoners in
Qezel Hesar Prison gathered on Friday, May 18, 2023, outside this prison
in Karaj. With chants of <Do not execute,> they urged the authorities to
refrain from executing their loved ones. Several women in this protest
were brutalized. The security forces used tear gas to disperse the
crowd. They also used pellet guns and fired at the protesters, a few of
whom were wounded. Some women were brutalized and wounded. The violence
by security forces led to the closure of shopping malls and shops in the
Second Square of the city of Gohardasht.
The clerical regime has executed over 120 prisoners over the past month
to deter the uprisings.
On Friday, May 18, they executed three young protesters in the Dastgerd
Prison of Isfahan despite widespread domestic and international
outcries, leading to anti-regime protests in dozens of cities
nationwide.
The three young protesters executed in Isfahan were Saleh Mir-Hashemi,
Majid Kazemi, and Saeid Yaghoubi.>>

May 19, 2023: A coverage of a
black day:
Iranwire - May 19, 2023
<Rolling Coverage: Executions Spark Condemnations, Protests
Islamic Republic forces have secretly buried the bodies of three
protesters executed in Isfahan this morning. Iranians have meanwhile
been seen chanting slogans condemning the <Republic of executions> in
cities across the country. According to information obtained from
1500tasvir activists, Saeed Yaqoubi's body was secretly buried in a
village in Isfahan. Saleh Mirhashemi was laid to rest in Baltaq, a
village in Boyin and Miandasht, while Majid Kazemi was buried in the
Habibabad cemetery of Isfahan. Each burial was undertaken by Iran's
security forces.
1pm Tehran-time update
Iranian authorities arrested a man who was protesting outside the prison
where his brother had been executed at dawn.
Kazemi's brother, Mohsen, was arrested by security forces while he was
holding a protest in front of the facility on the afternoon of the same
day, according to Iran's human rights news agencies.
2pm Tehran-time update
Iran's most prominent Sunni cleric has again called for a halt in
executions in Iran, saying that the Islamic Republic's increasing use of
the death penalty will not succeed in quelling popular calls for
fundamental reforms. Molavi Abdulhamid, the Sunni Friday prayer leader
of the south-eastern city of Zahedan, made the comments hours after
three men accused of deadly violence during last year's anti-government
protests were executed, sparking widespread condemnation both inside and
outside Iran. Campaigners have denounced the Islamic Republic's
escalation of executions in recent weeks and accused the authorities of
using the death penalty as a means to intimidate Iranians. <A nation
can't be suppressed by executions,> Molavi said in his Friday sermon,
adding that <such actions have no basis in the Islamic faith.> <They are
a consequence of a distorted interpretation of religion,> the
76-year-old cleric added. <I want to assure the global community that
these executions are in no way representative of the Islam religion.>
After Friday prayers, Zahedan residents took to the streets for weekly
protests and shouted slogans against the Islamic Republic and Supreme
Leader Ali Khamenei.
3pm Tehran-time update
The executions have drawn widespread condemnation both within Iran and
internationally. Despite numerous appeals from the international
community, the Iranian judiciary proceeded with the execution of the
three protesters. News of the executions and secret burials has sparked
a significant backlash among Iranian citizens. In neighborhoods of
Tehran such as Tehranpars, Negin Gharb, Saadatabad, and Tehransar,
outraged protesters voiced their anger with chants such as <Death to the
youth-killing government,> <Death to the killer Khamenei,> and <Curses
to Khomeini,> referring to the founder of the Islamic revolution, in
response to the executions.
Amid the mounting discontent, multiple groups have called for strikes
and protests against the Islamic Republic. Notably, the <Youths of
Isfahan and Suburbs> group issued a call for a strike to publicly mourn
the execution of these three young men. Their appeal urged individuals
from diverse backgrounds, including retired teachers, farmer workers,
ranchers, students, businessmen, and homemakers, to join the strike and
express solidarity across Iran.
4pm Tehran-time update
Australian Foreign Minister Penny Wong said that the execution of Majid
Kazemi, Saleh Mirhashemi and Saeed Yaqoubi <exemplifies the regime's
brutality against its people.> <We condemn these reprehensible killings
in the strongest possible terms,> she tweeted, adding that Australia
<stands with the people of Iran.> Amnesty International's
Secretary-General Agnes Callamard said that Majid Kazemi, 30, Saleh
Mirhashemi, 36, and Saeed Yaqoubi, 37, were executed only because they
were protesting. <Our thoughts go out to their families and friends. The
Islamic Republic of #Iran uses death penalty to instill fears, to quash
dissent. Unconscionable,> Callamard wrote in a tweet.
