<The Holy Quran does not mandate wearing of hijab or headgear for Muslim women. Whatever is stated in the above suras, we say, is only directory , because of absence of prescription of penalty or penance for not wearing hijab, the linguistic structure of verses supports this view>, the Iranian Court observed (15 mrt 2022).> |

<<Economic Hardship Forces Iranians to Sell Organs
In a video posted online, Suri Babaei Chegini, an anti-hijab activist who had
been arrested earlier along with her husband Reza Behboudi, reported that her
husband was forced to sell a kidney after their car was confiscated by the
authorities. The vehicle was the couple's only source of income. <Do you want me
to sell my heart and my kidney as well so that I can provide for these three
children?>, she asks Islamic Republic officials.>>....

<<Iran's Health Ministry Vows to Enforce Hijab Rules in Medical Centers
The Iranian Ministry of Health has established a <cultural council> to supervise
the observance of <appropriate clothing and religious values> in hospitals and
other medical centers, according to local media, as more women flout the Islamic
Republic's mandatory headscarf rules. The council's duties also include
organizing <workshops on chastity and hijab training,> KhabarOnline reported on
May 10. The report said that from now on, a cleric will be present in every
health center to monitor whether the strict dress code is observed. The move
comes as a growing number of women have appeared in public without the
compulsory head covering since Mahsa Amini's death in the custody of morality
police in September last year. >>

<<Two More Iranian Actresses Charged over Hijab Violations
Iranian authorities have filed legal cases against two more actresses who
recently appeared in public without wearing the mandatory headscarf, local media
reported, the latest in a series of similar indictments against celebrities in
the country. Baran Kosari, 37, attended the funeral of actor Hesam Mahmoudi
without a headscarf on May 5, Tasnim news agency reported, adding that <her

news agency said. <Earlier legal cases had been filed against actresses Katayoun
Riahi, Pantea Bahram, Afsaneh Baygan and Fatemeh Motamed-Aria for removing their

<<Iran's Athletics Federation Boss Sacked after Women Run Marathon without Hijab
The head of Iran's Athletics Federation was forced to resign after a number of
women without a mandatory head covering joined a marathon race organized by the
authorities in the central city of Shiraz. The state news agency IRNA lauded the
May 5 marathon as a <cultural and sports> event that included disabled athletes,
children with Down syndrome, foreign athletes and tourists. IRNA and Tasnim news
agencies published a picture showing teenage girls with hijab crossing the
finish line, where a military music band played for the runners. But after news
and images emerged of the participation of women without the required headscarf,
Zia Hashemi, the head of the Athletics Federation, was forced to step down, a
source at the Ministry of Sports and Youth told IranWire. The Shiraz Marathon
was organized by the athletics committee of Fars province. Ruhullah Najmi, the
head of the Fars athletics team, told ISNA news agency that some individuals who
did not abide by the Islamic Republic's dress codes managed to participate in
the race despite the presence of 400 police and military personnel. Maryam
Kazmipour, one of the most conservative sports deputy ministers, stated that all
necessary arrangements had been made before the race, <including separate hours
and routes for men and women.>
<However, the norm-breaking behavior of some individuals who participated in the
race without registration or numbers created abnormal images,> she told state
media. She emphasized that the Ministry of Sports and Youth <condemned such
behavior and will not permit anyone to normalize a behavior that contradicts the
values of Islamic society and the beliefs of the Iranian people in the name of
sports.> The incident comes as the Iranian authorities have intensified their
efforts to impose the compulsory headscarf in recent weeks as more women flout
the Islamic Republic's strict dress code.>>
