Father Ruhollah and son Milad Zohrevand
Hengaw Organisation for Human Right - 11 Dec 2023
<<Father of Executed Protester Milad Zohrevand Transferred to Dizelabad
Prison
Ruhollah Zohrevand, father of the late Milad Zohrevand, a young
protester whose death sentence was discreetly carried out, has recently
been relocated to Dizel Abad prison in Kermanshah. He was apprehended by
the IRGC's intelligence department on the day of his son's burial.
According to a report obtained by the Hengaw Organization for Human
Rights, Ruhollah Zohrevand, a family member seeking justice for their
deceased children, was recently moved from Malayer prison in Hamedan
province to Dizel Abad prison in Kermanshah. Simultaneously with his
son's funeral, Ruhollah Zohrevand and his wife, Afsana Zohrevand, were
arrested by the Revolutionary Guards' intelligence department. Mrs.
Zohrevand was released after a few hours. Over the past 17 days since
their son's death sentence was carried out, the Zohrevand family has
faced intense pressure from the Revolutionary Guards, including threats
for disseminating information about their situation. In a previous
report, Hengaw highlighted opposition to the transfer of Milad
Zohrevand's body to his hometown. It was revealed that the Revolutionary
Guards buried Milad Zohrevand in the section reserved for deceased
individuals from thirty years ago in Bagh Behesht Cemetery in Hamedan.
After installing surveillance cameras, they poured concrete on his grave.
Milad Zohrevand, a 21-year-old protester from Malayer, was executed at
dawn on Thursday, November 23, 2023, in Hamedan Central Prison. The
execution was conducted discreetly, and he had been sentenced to death
for the alleged murder of a government force named Ali Nazari during the
uprisings of the Women, Life, Freedom (Jin, Jiyan, Azadi) movement.>>

<<Diako Akosh Al-Balaghi, Injured Protester, Forced to Leave Iran Due to
Security Pressures
Diako Akosh Al-Balaghi, a Kurdish protester who suffered eye injuries
during the Women, Life, Freedom (Jin, Jiyan, Azadi) movement, has been
compelled to permanently depart Iran after a year of enduring continuous
pressure from security institutions. This 36-year-old individual lost
80% of his vision in his left eye during the Mahabad protests, and the
health of his right eye is also in serious jeopardy. According to a
report received by the Hengaw Organization for Human Rights, Diako Akosh
Al-Balaghi, the 36-year-old protester with eye injuries, recently had to
leave Iran for good after facing repeated summonses and pressure from
security agencies. In an interview with Hengaw, the injured protester
shared, <On October 11, 2022, during the popular protests in Mahabad, I
was severely wounded in the eye area by one of the security forces from
a distance of about 60 meters.>
Recounting the incident where bullets shattered the glass of his glasses
and struck his eye, Diako Akosh Al-Balaghi added, <For two days after
the injury, I stayed at home due to the fear of arrest. Eventually, due
to the worsening of my condition, I was taken to the Nikukari Eye
Hospital in Tabriz. The doctors performed 18 stitches on my left eyelid,
and in the end, they were unable to restore my sight.> After being
identified by the Intelligence Department forces, this injured protester
from the Women, Life, Freedom Movement faced summonses, interrogations,
and threats in several instances. He ultimately made the decision to
leave Iran in recent days. Diako Akosh Al-Balaghi, seeking security and
a solution for his eye treatment, has called on human rights
institutions and organizations to address the situation of the families
of the killed, detainees, and victims of the Women, Life, Freedom

<<Activist in Iran's Rasht Handed One-Year Prison Sentence
A Revolutionary Court in the northern Iranian city of Rasht has
sentenced political and social activist Tina Deljo to one year in prison
for <propaganda against the system.> According to a reliable source
close to her family who remains anonymous for security reasons, the
sentence was delivered after a court session last month that lasted no
more than five minutes. The case stemmed from Deljo's critical posts and
stories on her personal Instagram page during the Woman, Life, Freedom
movement. Deljo, a university lecturer with a doctorate in political
science, was arrested in Rasht, Gilan province’s capital, in July and
spent three days in Lakan prison before being released pending trial.
Ahead of the September anniversary of Mahsa Amini's death, the
government increased pressure on civil activists advocating women's
rights. In August, authorities arrested at least 12 women's rights
activists in Gilan, accusing them of <acting against national security.>
And last month, intelligence agents of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard
Corps (IRGC) arrested at least 20 people in Rasht, according to human
rights organizations. Their whereabouts remain unknown.>>

<<Iranian Teacher Union Activist Arrested in Fars Province
Iranian security police officers have arrested Jan Mohammad Ahmadi, a
retired teacher and union activist in the province of Fars. Ahmadi was
apprehended with an arrest warrant at his residence in the city of
Mamasani, and then was brought to the City Prosecutor's Office, where he
was explained the charges he faced. The activist was subsequently
transferred to prison, to spend one month in pretrial detention.
According to IranWire sources, the case stems from Ahmadi's
participation in a protest rally of retirees held on December 5.
Teachers have frequently faced repression from security forces in recent
years. Between 2022 and 2023, over 300 of them were detained by security
forces, while hundreds were summoned to supervisory, security and
judicial institutions. The Ministry of Education has temporarily or
permanently suspended and dismissed dozens of teachers for alleged
disciplinary violations.>>

<<Six-Year Prison Term Upheld Against Baha'i Woman in Northeast Iran
The Court of Appeal in Khorasan Razavi province has upheld a verdict and
sentence against Roya Malakoti, a Baha'i citizen, who is currently being
held at Mashhad's Vakil Abad Prison. The first branch of the Mashhad
Revolutionary Court, Judge Hadi Mansouri presiding, sentenced Malakoti
to six years in prison on the charge of <forming an illegal gathering or
group with the intention of disrupting national security> and eight
months on the charge of <propaganda against the system.> She also
received a one-month suspended sentence. The confirmation of the verdict
and sentence means that Malakoti faces six years in prison. She was
first apprehended on July 29, after responding to a summons and
presenting herself at Branch 903 of the Mashhad Prosecutor's Office. She
has been held at Vakil Abad Prison since that time. Baha'is have been
systematically persecuted in Iran for 44 years because of their faith
and are often accused of being spies or opposed to the Iranian
government. The Baha'i International Community notes that no evidence
has ever been provided to demonstrate these charges. The Iranian
government has intensified its crackdown on members of the Baha'i faith,
imprisoning dozens of them on spurious charges over the past year, as
well as denying access to higher education, livelihoods, and
confiscating or destroying personal properties.>>

<<Iranian Sunni Cleric Calls for Action to Eradicate Financial
Corruption
Iran's most prominent Sunni cleric has criticized the government for its
failure to tackle widespread financial corruption in the country, citing
a multi-billion scandal implicating former and current high-ranking
officials. In July, the Inspection Organization disclosed that a
prominent tea importer has been under scrutiny for its financial
practices. The company allegedly received $3.5 billion in foreign
currency at a discounted government rate for tea and machinery imports
from 2019 to 2022, and reportedly sold $1.4 billion of the currency on
the free market at a higher rate. <While people of all walks of life are
suffering from severe economic hardship, embezzlement continues
unabated,> Molavi Abdulhamid, the Sunni prayer leader of the
southeastern city of Zahedan, said in his sermon on December 8.
<Fundamental changes are needed to eradicate corruption from our
country,> the outspoken cleric added. Molavi has been a key dissenting
voice inside Iran since the eruption of nationwide anti-establishment
protests in September last year, using his sermons to call for
fundamental economic, social and political changes in the country. In
another part of his sermon, he raised <serious concerns> regarding the
wave of arrests and executions across the country, as well as the use of
torture to obtain confessions from inmates. <Capital punishment is not
in line with the principles of Islamic law,> Molavi asserted. Earlier in
the day, Zahedan's Makki Mosque announced that Molavi's Friday prayer
sermon would be broadcast on his YouTube channel because his Instagram
live broadcast was <blocked.>
As in recent weeks, the Friday prayers were held amid tight security
measures, with video footage showing military forces deployed in the
streets around the mosque. Zahedan is the capital of Sistan and
Baluchistan province, which is home to Iran's Sunni Baluch minority of
up to 2 million people. The restive city has seen protest rallies almost
every Friday since September 30 of last year, when security forces
killed nearly 100 people in the deadliest incident in the nationwide
demonstrations.>>

Personal message from Gino d'Artali
*Fire
Our precious house Iran is set on fire by the mullahs' regime as they're
hunting now for and not only the women but all freedom, equality and
democracy loving people, and yes, mostly the brave women, but more and
more also the women's rights activists; the students and teachers; the
journalists; the artists; the Sunnis; the Baluchis; the Azeris; the
Basa'is; the Kurds; the Kolbars and soo many more people of all walks of
life, origins and beliefs. The mullahs' regime wants to burn them all or
bring them to the gallows to hang them unless they beg for mercy. But
the faithfull people to and of Iran will not do so because they believe
also in what, whom I call the mother of Iran, Narges Mohammadi, says:
"Victory is not easy, but it is certain"
And so do I, at the service of all good and rightfull people of Iran.
But yes, when doing my service 24/7 my heart is bleeding too when I
again and again realize how the mullahs' regime makes the people suffer.
But in realizing it it makes my strenght to continue what I do only
stronger and more determined and one day I'll march with the freedom,
equality and democracy loving people of Iran to the Azadi tower to help
raise the flag of Victory.
Long live a long and free Iran.*
