<<Jailed Baha'i Describes Mistreatment and Asks Iranians to Call for
Justice
In an audio recording provided to IranWire, Hami Bahadori, 26, a
detained member of Iran's persecuted Baha'i religious minority, spoke of
his experience during interrogation and imprisonment and his court
appearances. Bahadori was arrested on October 22 last year and is being
held at Greater Tehran's Fashafouye prison. In his audio recording, he
spoke to his fellow Iranians, asking them to speak out for him and to
support his quest for justice. He also asked that citizens take a few
moments to listen to his story and under-stand the plight of Baha'is in
the Islamic Republic. <I am Hami Bahadori, an Iranian, a Baha'i, and a
detainee,> he said in the recor-ding, before proceeding to describe the
illegal attack by the Ministry of Intelligence on his home five months
ago and explaining that he was arrested without a warrant being issued
against him. Agents raiding his home confiscated his and his family's
belongings, including books, documents, devices and even jewellery. He
went on to detail the physical and mental torture he has endured in
prison.
<I was kept outside for hours in the cold air, denied access to the
toilet, and threatened with execution,> Bahadori said. <They even tried
to force me to divorce my wife,> he added. <I was forced to answer their
questions about every detail of my life and was put in front of a camera
where they demanded that I give my final will before executing me. After
filming, they coerced a confession from me.>
He then described the 17 interrogations he endured over an 80-day
period.>>

<<Tortured Iranian Rapper Denied Medical Care in Prison, Family Says
The family of Toomaj Salehi is raising alarm over the fate of the jailed
Iranian dissident rapper, who has been kept in solitary confinement for
almost 160 days. During all that period he has been denied medical
treatment despite being inflicted serious injuries by his captors in
Dastgerd prison in the central city of Isfahan, Salehi's uncle Iqbal
Iqbali told IranWire. Salehi's cousin Shabnam Khosravi said that the
family is demanding his immediate release because he <has not committed
any crime that would warrant spending 157 days in solitary confinement
pending trial.> Salehi has gained notoriety for lyrics that rail against
corruption, widespread poverty and state executions in Iran. He was
arrested on October 30 after releasing songs in support of the ongoing
women-led protest movement and posting pictures and videos of himself
during demonstrations. The artist is facing charges that carry death
sentences. No date has been set for the trial, his lawyer and family
said. Iqbali, who lives in Germany, told IranWire that Salehi's left eye
lost sight for some time, and he was unable to speak or eat for up to
two weeks due to multiple blows to his head. <His fingers and one leg
were broken under brutal torture and need urgent treatment,> he said.
<The interrogator insulted him, and Toomaj spat on the his face, and
then the interrogator hit him so badly that his eye was seriously
injured,> according to Iqbali. Khosravi, who is based in France, said
that the Salehi family lodged numerous complaints with the United
Nations Human Rights Council regarding the rapper's treatment. <Toomaj
is an artist, and it is the Islamic Republic that committed a crime
against him by violating his human rights, including freedom of
expression, and by keeping him in solitary confinement for more than
five months,> she said. Iqbali said Salehi's lawyer Amir Raisian will do
everything in his power to help him, while pointing out that attor-neys
in Iran are <limited in what they can do.> In such a context, the
involvement of the international community and <the millions of young
people in Iran who support Toomaj and other political prison-ers is
crucial to obtain his release,> the uncle said.>>

<<IHR: At least 537 people have been killed by state forces in Iran
News Center- The uprising that started in Iran and Rohjilat Kurdistan
following the killing of Jina Mahsa Amini, is in its seventh month.
Norway-based Iran Human Rights (IHR) has released a report on the
ongoing protests across the country. Since the start of the nationwide
protests in Iran, at least 537 people have been killed by state forces,
the report said.
The most deaths took place in late September
The IHR also said in the report that the Islamic Republic has also
executed four protesters after show trials and without due process. <In
the same time period, at least 309 people were executed across Iran
which the international community has failed to react to. Of those, 180
were executed for drug-related charges,> the report said. The most
deaths took place in late September with 223 killed; 100 were killed in
October, 173 people were killed in November and 25 people were killed in

<<Ex-Federation Boss: I Suffered Discrimination Because of My Ethnicity
Hossein Souri, head of Iran's National Boxing Federation, said in
November 2022 he was refusing to return to his country in support of
anti-government protests that had swept the country for weeks. Souri
made the announcement while in Spain for a youth boxing tournament. Two
young Iranian boxers participating in the competition also asked for
asylum. In an interview with IranWire, Souri talked about the problems
he faced as a citizen, as an athlete and as the Islamic Republic's
boxing boss in a country where ethnic minorities face widespread
discrimination and the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) see
sports as a form of social control to be exploited in pursuit of
domestic policy objectives.
Souri is from the south-eastern province of Sistan and Baluchistan, home
to Iran's Sunni Baluch minority of up to 2 million people. Human rights
groups say the Baluch community and other ethnic minorities in Iran face
discrimination in the judicial system and their everyday lives, with the
authorities curtailing their access to education, employment, adequate
housing and political office.
< believed boxing was the right Choice to Get my Rights>
<I am Hossein Souri, a law graduate and PhD student,> he said. <I
started boxing in 1989 and in 1992 I was accepted into the National
Youth Boxing Team. I believed boxing was the right choice to get my
rights. Sometimes, one feels many pains and wants to get rid of these
feelings. Boxing helped me a lot in this regard.> <One day I was walking
from Morad Gholi Khan School in Zahedan toward my home,> Souri
continued. <I was in Baluch clothing and my friend was wearing the
customary clothing of most Iranians. The patrol arrived and treated me
very differently than my friend. They stopped us and shaved the top of
my head.> After Souri earned his university degree and finished
mandatory military service, he got an interview for a job at a
government organization. <The first question that they asked me was,
'Are you a Shia or a Sunni?' All Baluchis have had the same experience.
This question was the first blot on my career.> In 2004, Souri was
elected as the head of Sistan and Baluchistan's boxing board.>>

Opinion by Gino d'Artali: I'm on the brink of becoming a Muslim, that is
to say, a Sunni Muslim because during the past six months reporting
about the 'Zan, Zendagi, Azadi' revolution I learned quiete well that
the shia's are fascists with no respect for anybody from another
religious believe nor do not accept equality between men and women.

<<Chastity Vs. Prostitution: Iran's Officials Call For Measures Against
Women With <Bad Hijab>
Enforcement of the Islamic Republic’s dress code is expected to reach a
new level as the supreme leader's representatives across the country
wrote a letter to President Ebrahim Raisi on the matter and a Tehran
official said the armed forces should be used to help enforce mandatory
hijab laws. <The resources and capabilities of the people, Jihadi
forces, media, army, and [paramilitary] Basij forces that were fighting
against Covid-19, why shouldn't they be utilized to combat prostitution
and bad hijab?> Mohammad Aghamiri, a member of the capital's City
Council, said during a council meeting on April 4. Mean-while,
parliament speaker Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf asked police to deal
decisively women with a <bad hijab,> saying that Morality Police was an
<ineffective and costly> force. All women in Iran must conceal their
hair with a headscarf and wear loose fitting trousers under their coats
while in public. But a growing number of women have appeared in public
without a hijab since a young woman, Mahsa Amini, died in police custody
in September 2022, triggering nation-wide protests demanding more
freedoms and women's rights. Amini had been arrested for allegedly
wearing a hijab improperly. The authorities have repeatedly warned women
and girls to respect the Islamic Republic's dress codes and threatened
to punish violators. Many businesses have been shut down due to the
failure of owners or managers to observe hijab rules. <Unfortunately,
those respon-sible for the matter have not done enough to promote hijab
and culture of chastity,> said Ghalibaf, who called for distinguishing
women <with weak hijab> from those <who violate norms outright.>
Also on April 4, Mohammad Javad Ali Akbari, Supreme Leader's Ali
Khamenei's man in the capital, said that the leader's representatives
had written a confidential letter to Raisi about <the state of chastity
and hijab.>
The content of the letter has not been made public.
But Akbari said that <the relevant organs of the system are concer-ned
and busy working to promote a chaste lifestyle.> <The enemy wants to
turn this issue into a factor for polarization among the people and
create differences among the revolutionary forces,> he added. Khamenei
addressed the issue of compulsory hijab in a meeting with government
officials, calling it a <Sharia and legal restriction.> According to the
supreme leader, <many individuals who oppose hijab are unaware of the
political implications of their actions. If they knew, they wouldn't do
it.> >>

Opinion by Gino d'Artali: So 'the game' is changing now to 'the good (khamenei's
regime now basically saying all women are prostitutes) against all the
'bad' (Women). Well mister, since your way of playing is calamitous the
women will win.

<<20 Iranian Schoolgirls Hospitalized with Poisoning Symptoms
Twenty Iranian schoolgirls were transferred to hospital in the
north-western city of Tabriz, an official said, after the latest in a
wave of poisoning attacks that have sickened thousands of pupils across
the country over more than four months. The head of the emergency
service in West Azerbaijan province said the girls were treated after
suffering shortness of breath, the news agency ISNA reported on April 4.
The official said the general condition of the students was good. The
school poisoning occurred in Tabriz's Baghmisheh Town a day after
Iranian schools had resumed classes following the Persian New Year
break. Since November 2022, more than 5,000 students have suffered
symptoms including nausea, fainting, headaches, coughing, breathing
difficulties and heart palpitations, with many requiring treatments in
hospital. The attacks in more than 200 schools across the country have
sparked fear and anger among schoolgirls, their parents and Iranian
society at large. After Iranian authorities announced arrests over the
poisonings last month, UN experts criticized the Islamic Republic for
failing to protect the schoolgirls, prevent further attacks and conduct
swift investigations.
The experts also expressed concern about the sequencing of the attacks,
which began a few weeks after the September 2022 death of a young woman
in police custody sparked nationwide protests.
<We fear that they are orchestrated to punish girls for their involve-ment
in the movement - Women, Life, Freedom, and for expressing their
opposition to mandatory hijab and voicing their demands for equality.>
