<<Women in Shahba: The Turkish state will not be able to achieve its
goals
<The Turkish state will not be able to achieve its goals in North and
East Syria,> said the women living in Afrin/Shahba canton, pointing to
the ongoing Turkish attacks in the region.
Shahba- Turkish attacks on civilian settlements in North and East Syria
continue. Due to the ongoing attacks, the civilians are subjected to
rights and violations and forced displacement. The Turkish forces and
Turkish-backed factions attack Sherewa and Til Rifat districts of Afrin-Shehba
Canton every day by using heavy weapons. Despite the attacks on
civilians, the international community remains silent. Fatima Al-Ali is
a displaced woman of Afrin living in Shahba. Thousands of displaced
people of Afrin endure difficult conditions because the Turkish state
and Turkish backed factions occupied Afrin and looted our houses and
orchards, she told NuJINHA.
'The Turkish state is the only terrorist force in the region'
The Turkish state attacks our region by claiming, <We fight terrorism>,
Fatima Al-Ali said. <We are the people of this region and witness the
facts. The Turkish state is the only terrorist force in the region. It
keeps committing war crimes by attacking Shahba. Thanks to the
Autonomous Administration of North and East Syria, people live together
and are in solidarity with each other. For this reason, the Turkish
state's threats, attacks and efforts to divide our country will not
affect the people of the region.>
'The authoritarian regime in Turkey has been shaken'
The Turkish state has weakened politically, militarily, diplomatically
and economically, said Ayşe Bekir, another displaced woman of Afrin
living in Shahba. <The authoritarian regime in Turkey has been shaken
since the local elections. The Turkish state tries to canalize its
internal conflicts to North and East Syria.>
Speaking about the history of the Turkish state, she said, <The history
of the Ottoman Empire was full of conflicts. The Turkish state aims to
revive the Ottoman Empire by killing people.> Ayşe Bekir called on all
organizations saying that they defend human rights to fulfill their
duties about the rights violations and crimes committed by the Turkish
state. <They should stop massacres and bombardments of the Turkish state
in North and East Syria. We should ensure peace together in the region.>
'We are not afraid of the attacks'
Sadiqa Bekir is a displaced woman of Afrin living in the Til Rifat town
of Shahba. She told us that they lived in Shahba to return to Afrin. <We
have resisted all challenges for six years. The Turkish state has
attacked Shahba and targeted civilians for six years. We resist these
attacks and we are not afraid of these attacks. Our presence in Shahba
will ensure our return to Afrin.>
'Our efforts will not be in vain'
<We will not give up resisting,> said Emina Isa. <We will resist to the
end to have a life with dignity. The aim of the Turkish attacks is to
depopulate the region. The people of Afrin have made great efforts to
return to Afrin. Our efforts will not be in vain.> >>

News Center- The Martin Ennals Foundation has announced that Zholia
Parsi, a women's rights activist and member of the Spontaneous Movement
of Afghan Women, has been nominated for the 2024 Martin Ennals Award for
Human Rights Defenders. Since the Taliban returned to power in August
2021, women protesting Taliban's policies have been forcibly
disappeared, arbitrarily arrested, and detained and subjected to torture
and other-ill treatment. On September 27, 2023, Zholia Parsi was
detained and taken from her home in Kabul by members of the Taliban. Her
mobile phones, documents, and other personal possessions were
confiscated. She was released from Taliban custody on December 18, 2023,
after spending three three months in custody. The Award is named after
British human rights activist Martin Ennals, who served as Secretary
General of Amnesty International from 1968 to 1980. He co-founded the
human rights organizations ARTICLE 19, International Alert and HURIDOCS.

be kept in solitary confinement for 11 days for starting a rotating
hunger strike.

to punish political prisoners. 10 women political prisoners held in

<<Crackdown on Kurdish media to be protested in Europe
Kurdish people will protest the police raids on pro-Kurdish Sterk TV and
Medya Haber TV in France and Belgium.
News Center- The European Kurdish Democratic Societies Congress (KCDK-E)
and the European Kurdish Women's Movement (TJK-E) will organize
demonstrations in France and Belgium on April 27 to protest the police
raids on pro-Kurdish channels, Sterk and Medya Haber TV. The
simultaneous police raids on Sterk TV and Medya Haber TV in Belgium, on
the Drancy Democratic Kurdish Community Center in France and on the
houses of its members on April 23, 2024 were an organized attack against
the Kurdish people, said the written statement released by two
organizations.
Mentioning the detention of nine journalists in Ankara and Istanbul, the
statement recalled the deportation of Kurdish refugees from France to
Turkey. <The regional and international powers have become a party to
the Turkish state's genocidal plans against the Kurdish people. France
has recently intensified its arbitrary and illegal oppression against
the Kurdish people. It handed over three Kurdish people to the fascist
Turkish state by tying their arms and hands. France and Belgium clearly
committed unlawful acts by conducting raids on the offices of Sterk TV
and Medya Haber TV for their own interests while the invasion attacks on
the Kurdistan region continue.>
Call for participation in demonstrations
The murderers of Sakine Cansız, Fidan Dogan, Leyla Şaylemez, Evin Goyi,
Mîr Perwer and Abdurrahman Kızıl, who were murdered in Paris in 2013 and
2022, have not been found yet, the statement emphasized. <We call on the
Kurdish people and their friends to participate in the demonstrations to
be held on April 27 in order to protest the crackdown on the Kurdish
media.> >>

EU Stop femicide law
Jinha - Womens News Agency - April 25, 2024
<<EU Parliament adopts first ever EU rules on combating violence against
women
The European Parliament adopted on Wednesday the first ever EU rules on
combating violence against women and domestic violence.
News Center- The European Parliament adopted on Wednesday the first ever
EU rules on combating violence against women and domestic violence, with
522 in favour, 27 against, and 72 abstentions. The new rules prohibit
female genital mutilation and forced marriage and outline particular
guidelines for offenses committed online, such as the disclosure of
private information and cyberflashing. The new legislation will include
a longer list of aggravating circumstances for offenses that carry more
severe penalties, such as crimes against public figures, journalists, or
human rights defenders. The list also includes the intention to punish
victims based on their gender, sexual orientation, skin color, religion,
social origin, or political beliefs, and the desire to maintain or
restore <honor.>
<Today Parliament has taken the first steps to make Europe the first
continent in the world to end violence against women,> said Frances
Fitzgerald, the co-rapporteur from the Women's Rights and Gender
Equality Committee. <This is a wide-ranging piece of legislation that
will prevent violence against women, protect victims and prosecute
perpetrators, thereby ensuring a holistic approach to tackling these
heinous crimes. There can be no equality without eradication of violence
against women; we must ensure that there can be no impunity for those
who commit such crimes.>
<This ground-breaking directive embodies our unwavering commitment to
strengthening the rights of women and saving lives,> said Evin Incir,
the co_rapporteur from the Civil Liberties Committee. <As we march
forward, let us remember this moment as a first historic step in
strengthening women's rights and illuminating the path towards a future
where every woman can live free from fear and oppression. This is a
victory for justice and equality across the European Union.> The new
rules will come into force twenty days after their publication in the EU
Official Journal. Member states have three years to implement the
provisions.>>
