Narges Mohammadi
Al Jazeera - Dec 12, 2025
{Nobel peace laureate Narges Mohammadi arrested in Iran,
supporters say
Rights groups say Mohammadi, who won 2023 Nobel Peace Prize, was
detained at ceremony in northeastern city of Mashhad.
Supporters of 2023 Nobel Peace Prize laureate Narges Mohammadi
say she has been arrested while attending a memorial ceremony in
the northeastern Iranian city of Mashhad. The Narges Foundation
said on Friday that Mohammadi, 53, was arrested during an event
honouring a human rights lawyer who recently died in unclear
circumstances. Iranian authorities have not commented on her
reported detention, and it remains uncertain whether she will be
returned to prison to complete a previous sentence. The arrest
comes amid a broader clampdown on activists and civil society
figures as Iran faces sanctions, economic pressures and
heightened regional tensions. Her supporters described Mohammadi
as having been “violently detained earlier today by security and
police forces”, adding that several other activists were also
taken into custody. They had gathered to commemorate
Khosrow Alikordi, a 46-year-old lawyer and rights advocate who
was found dead in his office this month. Local officials said he
suffered a heart attack, though more than 80 lawyers have signed
a statement seeking further clarification. “The Narges
Foundation calls for the immediate and unconditional release of
all detained individuals who were attending a memorial ceremony
to pay their respects and demonstrate solidarity,” the group
said. “Their arrest constitutes a serious violation of
fundamental freedoms.”
Regular protests
Footage circulating online appeared to show Mohammadi addressing
the crowd without a headscarf and leading chants referencing
Majidreza Rahnavard, who was executed in public in 2022.
Mohammadi was granted temporary medical leave from prison in
December 2024 after suffering longstanding health problems.
Although the leave was initially limited to three weeks, it was
extended as she underwent treatment, including surgery for a
bone lesion and ongoing cardiac care. The Free Narges Coalition
said earlier this year that doctors advised she should remain on
medical leave for at least six more months. “Mohammadi’s doctors
recently prescribed an extension of her medical leave … and
specialised cardiac care,” the group said, warning that a return
to prison “could severely worsen her physical well-being”. An
engineer by training, Mohammadi has been arrested 13 times and
convicted in five, receiving cumulative sentences exceeding 30
years. Her most recent imprisonment began in 2021 after she
attended a memorial for a protester killed during nationwide
demonstrations.} Video - Source: https://www.aljazeera.com/news/2025/12/12/nobel-peace-laureate-narges-mohammadi-arrested-in-iran-supporters-say

{Narges Mohammadi and other Activists Violently Arrested at
Memorial Service for Slain Lawyer

Eyewitness: “Arrests were carried out with severe violence”
Streets Blocked, Crowd Prevents Arrest of Slain Lawyer’s Brother
On Friday, December 12, 2025, Nobel Peace Laureate Narges
Mohammadi and other prominent human rights activists were
violently arrested and detained by Islamic Republic security
forces at the seventh-day memorial ceremony for Khosro Alikordi,
the human rights lawyer whose highly suspicious death on
December 8, 2025 had prompted calls by lawyers and activists
across Iran for an independent investigation into his death. At
the time of this report, the arrests of Narges Mohammadi,
Sepideh Gholian, Pouran Nazemi, Noura Haghi, Ali Adinezadeh, and
Hassan Bagherinia have been independently confirmed by the
Center for Human Rights in Iran (CHRI) from sources inside Iran
who attended the ceremony. The Narges Foundation has also
confirmed the arrests of Hasti Amiri, and Aliyeh Motalebzadeh,
and stated that reports indicated Asadollah Fakhimi, Akbar
Amini, and Abolfazl Abri were detained as well. Later on
December 12, Javad Alikordi, an attorney and the brother of
recently deceased human rights lawyer Khosro Alikordi, was
arrested by security forces at his workplace in Mashhad just
hours after he spoke on an Instagram live about the violent
crackdown at his brother’s seventh-day memorial. There is no
information currently available about his whereabouts or
condition. Javad Alikordi had been summoned and interrogated on
December 10 over his criticism of the authorities following his
brother’s death. He was previously imprisoned on
security-related charges and had been released under electronic
monitoring on August 11, 2025, after an appeals court reinstated
a suspended sentence. He has faced repeated prosecutions, travel
bans, and restrictions on his professional and online
activities. “The international community must demand the
immediate release of all those detained at Khosro Alikordi’s
memorial. What we witnessed today is the Islamic Republic’s
latest assault on the most basic human freedoms—where even
mourning a slain lawyer becomes a punishable act,” said Hadi
Ghaemi, CHRI executive director. “When peaceful citizens cannot
mourn without being beaten and dragged away, it reveals a
government terrified of truth and accountability. It also
reveals the extraordinary bravery of Iranians who refuse to
surrender their dignity,” said Ghaemi.
A source who was present at the memorial service told CHRI:
“The arrests of Narges Mohammadi and Sepideh Gholian were
carried out with severe violence. In addition to these
activists, several other attendees were also arrested by
security forces.”
The same eyewitness added:
“Security forces had blocked the streets surrounding the mosque
hours in advance, and as a result, a large number of people were
unable to reach the mosque. Still, many people gathered, and
this led to a crowd forming on a street near the mosque. Ms.
Mohammadi gave a brief speech there, and the arrests took place
in that very spot.”
A source told HRANA:
“The agents also attempted to arrest Javad Alikordi, the brother
of Khosrow Alikordi, but the people present at the ceremony
prevented it. The streets around Ghadir Mosque were blocked, and
security forces were stopping people from entering the area.”
Earlier, a knowledgeable source had told CHRI that
“Some civil and political activists who had traveled to Mashhad
in recent days to visit Mr. Alikordi’s family were approached by
security agents upon arrival at the airport and were told that
they must not give speeches at Mr. Alikordi’s ceremony.”
CHRI will continue to provide updates to this developing story.

the murder took place as her child witnessed the attack. Based
on information received by Hengaw Organization for Human Rights,
the 37-year-old woman was stabbed multiple times and had her
throat slit by her cousin on Monday, December 8, 2025, outside
her home in the Akbarabad neighborhood of Boyer-Ahmad. After

Ramin Zileh
Hengaw - Dec 11, 2025
{Iranian court sentences Kurdish political prisoner Ramin Zileh
to death
An Iranian court has sentenced Kurdish political prisoner Ramin
Zileh from Naqadeh to death after more than 500 days in
detention. According to information received by the Hengaw
Organization for Human Rights, Zileh was sentenced to death by
Branch 1 of the Mahabad Revolutionary Court, presided over by
Judge Siyami, on the charge of “baghi (armed rebellion) through
membership in the Democratic Party of Iranian Kurdistan."
Sources told Hengaw that the death sentence was formally issued
to Zileh inside Naqadeh Central Prison on December 5, 2025.
Zileh’s trial was conducted after 1 year, 4 months, and 19 days
in detention. The hearing lasted only a few minutes and was held
without transparency and without allowing him access to a lawyer
of his choosing — conditions that constitute a violation of
international fair trial standards. Zileh was arrested on
Monday, July 22, 2024, by Intelligence Ministry agents in
Naqadeh and later transferred to Naqadeh Central Prison, where
he has remained for the past 507 days. Source: Hengaw}: https://hengaw.net/en/news/2025/12/article-65
NCRI - in Women's News - Dec 13, 2025
{Sediqeh Ghorbani Hanged in Urmia Central Prison; 59th Execution
of a Woman in 2025
At dawn on Saturday, December 13, 2025, a woman identified as
Sediqeh Ghorbani was hanged in Urmia Central Prison.
The Chief Justice of Urmia announced the execution without
disclosing the woman’s identity. Sediqeh Ghorbani had been
arrested two years earlier on charges of the premeditated murder
of her four-year-old stepdaughter, Ava Ghahremani, and had been
held in custody since then. Social tragedies are rooted in
deeper political causes. In the final analysis, they must be
laid at the door of the anti-human, misogynistic clerical
regime, which has been the breeding ground for the deep-seated
pathologies of this period in Iran’s history. At the core of
this dehumanizing ideology and policy lies the systematic
victimization of women and girls. With the execution of Sediqeh
Ghorbani in Urmia Central Prison, the number of women executed
in Iran since the beginning of the 2025 calendar year has risen
to 59.
Iran, the world record holder in executing women
According to data recorded by the Women’s Committee of the
National Council of Resistance of Iran, at least 322 women have
been executed in Iran since 2007. So far in 2025, the clerical
regime has executed at least 70% more women than in all of 2024,
and the year is not yet over. Many of the women executed by the
Iranian regime are themselves victims of domestic violence and
discriminatory family laws. A significant number have acted in
self-defense. Since Masoud Pezeshkian took office, the clerical
regime has executed some 2,700 prisoners. Silence and inaction
in the face of the murderers of the Iranian people fuel
terrorism, suppression, and warmongering. The regime of
execution and terror must be shunned by the international
community, and its dossier of human rights violations must be
referred to the United Nations Security Council. } Source: https://wncri.org/2025/12/13/sediqeh-ghorbani-urmia-central-prison/

Iran arrests 16 people, including Narges Mohammadi, at memorial
ceremony
Hengaw - Dec 12, 2025
{Iran arrests 16 people, including Narges Mohammadi, at memorial
ceremony for Khosrow Alikurdi
Iranian government forces arrested at least 16 people, including
Nobel Peace Prize laureate Narges Mohammadi, during the
seventh-day memorial ceremony for the late lawyer and former
political prisoner Khosrow Alikurdi in Mashhad. According to
information received by Hengaw Organization for Human Rights,
the arrests took place on Friday, December 12, 2025, when
Iranian government forces raided the memorial ceremony for
Alikurdi, a Kurdish lawyer from Sabzevar. At least 16 attendees
were detained, including two members of Alikurdi’s family, two
members of families seeking justice, and several former
political prisoners.
Those arrested include Narges Mohammadi, a former political
prisoner and Nobel Peace Prize laureate, Alieh Motalebzadeh,
Hasti Amiri, Pouran Nazemi, Sepideh Gholian, Asadollah Fakhimi,
Akbar Amini, Ali Adinehzadeh, Reza Adinehzadeh, Hassan
Bagheri-Nia, Abolfazl Abri, Habib Fadaei, Kamal Jafarizadi, and
Nora Haghi. Davoud Alikurdi and Ahmad Alikurdi, members of
Khosrow Alikurdi’s family, were also arrested. Ali Adinehzadeh
and Reza Adinehzadeh are members of families seeking justice
associated with the “Woman, Life, Freedom” (Jin, Jiyan, Azadi)
movement. Javad Alikurdi, the brother of Khosrow Alikurdi,
confirmed the arrests of Narges Mohammadi and Sepideh Gholian
and stated that Iranian government forces beat them during the
arrest. Khosrow Alikurdi had faced years of fabricated cases and
sustained security and judicial pressure. He died under
suspicious circumstances on the evening of Friday, December 5,
2025, at his workplace. While authorities stated that he died of
a heart attack, evidence and statements from relatives and
lawyers, including reports of unusual bleeding and the
possibility of physical injury, have raised serious doubts about
the official account of his death. Khosrow Alikurdi was laid to
rest on Sunday, December 7, 2025, in his hometown of Abdolabad,
Sabzevar. During the burial ceremony, his brother emphasized
Alikurdi’s ethical and human commitment, noting that he had
defended marginalized individuals, taken on complex legal cases,
and endured sustained security pressure for years. Source:

{Zeinab Hezbapour Transferred to Sepidar Prison in Ahvaz amid
Intensifying Pressure on the Jamee’i Family
Zeinab Hezbapour, the wife of Massoud Jame’i—a political
prisoner sentenced to two death penalties—has been transferred
to the women’s ward of Sepidar Prison in Ahvaz to begin serving
a 15-year sentence. Her transfer comes as her daughter, Nahid
Jame’i, has also received a 12-year prison sentence, both issued
through proceedings that fell far short of internationally
recognized standards of due process. This escalation represents
a growing pattern of security-driven repression targeting the
family of Massoud Jame’i, who has been held in Sheiban Prison,
Ahvaz, in severely deteriorating health after two years of
imprisonment without access to medical care. His condition has
become so critical that concerns are mounting he may die even
before his execution is carried out.
Harsh Sentences for Wife and Daughter
In a security-related case, Zeinab Hezbapour was sentenced to 15
years in prison on charges of “membership in insurgent groups.”
Her 24-year-old daughter, Nahid Jame’i, was sentenced by Branch
1 of the Ahvaz Revolutionary Court to 12 years in prison after a
process marked by the absence of independent legal counsel and
pervasive security pressure. In addition to these two, the
family’s other daughters, Dalal and Roghieh Jame’i, have also
faced interrogations and security prosecution in recent months,
raising alarm about collective punitive actions targeting the
entire family. Widespread Arrests of Family Members: Coercive
Interrogations and Denial of Legal Representation
Massoud Jame’i was arrested in August 2023, followed by the
arrest of his wife and their three daughters. Reports indicate
that family members were subjected to coercion, threats, and
pressure during interrogations and were denied access to legal
counsel throughout the investigative phase. Following his
interrogation period, Massoud Jame’i was transferred to Sheiban
Prison in Ahvaz, where substandard detention conditions and the
complete lack of medical care significantly worsened his
illnesses. He is 48 years old, married, and was employed at the
National Iranian Oil Company prior to his arrest. The cases of
Massoud Jame’i, Zeinab Hezbapour, and their daughter Nahid
exemplify the expanding pattern of collective punishment used
against the families of political prisoners in Iran.} Source: https://wncri.org/2025/12/12/zeinab-hezbapour-sepidar-prison-in-ahvaz/

Zeinab Hezbapour aka Hezbeh
Hengaw - Dec 12, 2025
{Zeinab Hezbapour jailed to serve 15-year sentence in Ahvaz
Zeinab Hezbapour (also known as Hezbeh), the wife of Arab
political prisoner Massoud Jamee (Bavi), who is on death row,
has been arrested to begin serving a 15-year prison sentence.
According to information received by the Hengaw Organization for
Human Rights, Hezbapour was recently taken into custody and
transferred to Sepidar Prison in Ahvaz. Hezbapour and her
daughter, Nahid Jamee, 26, were previously sentenced by the
Iranian judiciary to 15 years and 12 years in prison,
respectively, on charges of “membership in insurgent groups.”
Two other members of the family—Delal Jamee, 22, and Roghayeh
Jamee, 18—have also been tried by the Bavi Revolutionary Court
on charges of links to “anti-government groups,” including the
Mojahedin-e Khalq Organization (MEK). No information has been
made public regarding their sentences. Massoud Jamee, 49, has
spent 864 days in detention. He was convicted by Branch 1 of the
Ahvaz Revolutionary Court on charges including “corruption on
earth,” “membership in the MEK,” “assembly and collusion to
overthrow the government,” and “propaganda against the state.”
He was sentenced to two death penalties and one year of
discretionary imprisonment, a ruling that has been fully upheld
by Iran’s Supreme Court. Jamee was arrested on August 1, 2023,
by agents of the Ahvaz Intelligence Department and transferred
to Sheyban Prison. According to informed sources, he has been
subjected to physical and psychological torture during his
detention. Despite suffering from stomach cancer, liver disease,
high blood pressure, and internal infections, he has been denied
adequate medical treatment. Source: Hengaw}: https://hengaw.net/en/news/2025/12/article-67

{Maryam Gorji: Critical Health Crisis in Evin Prison, Judicial
Neglect, and the Risk of Death
The health condition of Maryam Gorji, an ailing detainee
currently held in Evin Prison and one of the recently arrested
protesters, has deteriorated to a point that now poses a grave
threat to her life. Maryam Gorji, who previously underwent
intestinal surgery and relies on an artificial intestinal
segment, is suffering from severe abdominal pain and requires a
highly specialized diet, needs that are virtually impossible to
meet inside the prison environment. In addition to her
intestinal complications, she is battling an advanced liver
disease. Medical professionals had already issued a “medical
unfitness for imprisonment” order for Maryam Gorji, a directive
that legally requires the suspension of her sentence and her
immediate transfer to a fully equipped medical facility. Despite
this, the judicial authority overseeing her case has not only
blocked her release but has imposed an exorbitant bail of five
billion tomans, effectively preventing her access to urgently
needed treatment. Throughout her detention, no meaningful
medical intervention has been provided to stabilize her
high-risk condition. Repeated delays in treatment have
heightened concerns that her case may mirror the fate of
Somayyeh Rashidi, whose suspicious death in custody triggered
widespread alarm.} Source: https://wncri.org/2025/12/11/maryam-gorji-at-risk-of-death-in-evin-prison/

{Lawmakers at EU Parliament Back NCRI’s “Third Option” Amidst
Historic Execution Surge in Iran
BRUSSELS — On December 10, 2025, the European Parliament served
as the stage for a critical convergence of Iranian opposition
leaders and Western policymakers. Marking International Human
Rights Day, a high-profile conference hosted in Brussels brought
together Mrs. Maryam Rajavi, President-elect of the National
Council of Resistance of Iran (NCRI), alongside a coalition of
former ministers, lawmakers, and international legal experts.
The proceedings focused on a stark dual reality: the Iranian
regime’s unprecedented escalation of executions and the
simultaneous consolidation of an organized resistance movement.
Speakers detailed a human rights crisis that has surpassed
historical benchmarks while outlining a “Third Option” for the
international community—a policy framework that rejects both
appeasement and foreign military intervention, relying instead
on the Iranian people to dismantle the religious dictatorship.
A Regime “Hanging Human Rights”
The conference opened with a grim accounting of the regime’s
recent violence. In her keynote address, Mrs. Maryam Rajavi
presented statistics indicating that the clerical regime has
accelerated its machinery of death to levels not seen in
decades. She revealed that in November alone, the judiciary
carried out “335 executions.” Mrs. Rajavi described a government
that “hangs human rights every single day,” highlighting the
plight of 18 political prisoners currently sentenced to death
solely for their affiliation with the People’s Mojahedin
Organization of Iran (PMOI/MEK). She argued that this
intensification of violence is a symptom of desperation rather
than strength. “Never before have the mullahs been so much in
need of intensifying repression because never before have they
felt so close to being overthrown,” she told the assembly.
Dominique Attias, Chair of the European Lawyers Foundation,
characterized the executions as a “deliberate strategy of
terror.” She pointed to the regime’s systematic destruction of
mass-grave sites—desecrating some 9,500 graves from the 1980s—as
an “ultimate profanation” designed to erase evidence of past
atrocities. Stephen Rapp, the former U.S. Ambassador-at-Large
for Global Criminal Justice, provided a legal context for these
actions. Noting that nearly 2,000 executions have been recorded
this year, Rapp classified the violence as ongoing crimes
against humanity. “The pattern we see today echoes the logic of
1988,” Rapp observed, referring to the massacre of 30,000
political prisoners. He insisted that Western powers must ensure
that the mislabeling of the PMOI as terrorists, which previously
hamstrung the opposition, is “never again” repeated.
Demanding a Paradigm Shift in EU Policy
A central theme of the event was the inadequacy of current
European policies toward Tehran. Former MEP Struan Stevenson,
who moderated the session, dismissed the utility of limited
military strikes against the regime’s infrastructure.
“Airstrikes… cannot uproot the epicenter of instability—the
clerical dictatorship in Tehran,” Stevenson asserted. He urged
the European Union to “end appeasement,” calling for the
immediate closure of Iranian embassies used for repression and
the designation of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC)
as a terrorist organization. This security concern was
reinforced by MEP Antonio López-Istúriz White, Chair of the
Delegation for Relations with Mexico. Referencing the
assassination attempt against former EP Vice-President Alejo
Vidal-Quadras in Madrid, he warned that “no normalization of
EU-Iran relations is acceptable” while transnational repression
continues. López-Istúriz White cautioned that Tehran’s proxy
networks pose a direct security threat that extends beyond the
Middle East into Europe itself.
The “Third Option” and Resistance Units
Amidst the condemnation, speakers presented the NCRI’s “Third
Option” as the only viable path to stability. Former MEP Dorien
Rookmaker described the regime as “100 percent pure evil” and
advocated for the formal endorsement of Mrs. Rajavi’s Ten-Point
Plan, which envisions a secular, non-nuclear republic with
gender equality. Kumi Naidoo, former Secretary-General of
Amnesty International, focused on the demographics driving this
movement. He described Iranian women and the Resistance Units as
“the heartbeat of the nationwide struggle.” Citing the case of
Zahra Tabari, a 67-year-old engineer sentenced to death for
holding a banner reading “Woman, Resistance, Freedom,” Naidoo
argued that such extreme repression reveals the regime’s
“political weakness” and fear of its own citizens.
Rejecting the Shah and the Mullahs
A critical distinction made throughout the proceedings was the
forward-looking nature of the opposition. Dr. Sina Dashti, an
Iranian-Swedish physician, offered testimony regarding the
generational struggle against tyranny. He emphasized that
Iranian society “rejects both monarchy and theocracy,” noting
that the Shah’s suppression of democratic forces had paved the
way for the current religious dictatorship. Mrs. Rajavi
reinforced this stance, stating that the Iranian people seek a
democratic republic that rejects both the “Shah’s and the
mullahs’ autocracies.” The consensus among speakers was that the
expanding Resistance Units demonstrate a nationwide will to
replace theocratic rule with free elections and the separation
of religion and state.
Legal Urgency
The event concluded with urgent calls for legal intervention to
protect those currently on death row. Mark Ellis, Executive
Director of the International Bar Association, warned that the
regime is actively trying to “bury evidence, silence victims,
and entrench impunity.” He urged European nations to utilize
universal jurisdiction to prosecute regime officials,
emphasizing that perpetrators must not believe “time is on their
side.” International human rights lawyer Azadeh Zabeti
underscored the immediacy of the crisis. She warned that the
execution of the 18 PMOI supporters would amount to “deliberate
political killings by the state,” calling on the international
community to recognize the NCRI’s roadmap as the definitive
solution to the crisis.} Source:

Zhivar Rahmani
Hengaw - Dec 10, 2025
{17-year-old Zhivar Rahmani critically injured after being shot
by government forces in Paveh
A 17-year-old Kurdish teenager, Zhivar Rahmani, from Paveh, was
critically injured after government forces opened fire directly
at him without warning. Rahmani’s vehicle was targeted by state
forces stationed at the Melander outpost. According to
information received by the Hengaw Organization for Human
Rights, Rahmani — a resident of Neysaneh village in Paveh —
sustained severe injuries on Tuesday, December 9, 2025, when
government forces fired multiple rounds at his vehicle. A source
familiar with the case told Hengaw.“ After being struck by
bullets in the back and neck, causing spinal cord damage from
the direct gunfire, Rahmani was transferred to Taleghani
Hospital in Kermanshah for urgent treatment. His condition
remains extremely critical.” Medical information obtained by
Hengaw indicates that doctors expect Rahmani to undergo several
surgeries in the coming days, though each procedure carries
significant risk due to the extent of his injuries. Another
informed source reported that Rahmani’s vehicle was riddled with
bullets without any prior warning. Eighteen bullets struck the
vehicle, and six bullets hit Rahmani’s body. Hengaw has learned
that government forces claimed they opened fire on suspicion
that Rahmani was guarding a vehicle transporting smuggled goods.
However, according to the information gathered, his car was
parked in an area where stopping is officially permitted,
contradicting the justification provided for the shooting.
