<<End of Warisheh Moradi's hunger strike: a milestone for Iranian human
rights
After 20 days on hunger strike, imprisoned Kurdish activist Warisheh
Moradi ended her protest in response to widespread appeals from
activists, academics, and women’s groups. Her strike spotlighted human
rights abuses and sparked solidarity movements across Europe and Iran.
After 20 days on hunger strike, Kurdish political activist Warisheh
Moradi ended her protest on Tuesday from within Tehran’s Evin prison. A
member of the Free Women's Society of East Kurdistan (KJAR) and a vocal
advocate for women's rights, Moradi had initiated her strike in a plea
against Iran's executions, harsh prison conditions, and systemic
injustices. Her decision to end the strike followed calls from human
rights advocates and international organisations concerned for her
deteriorating health. In an open letter dated October 10, Moradi
declared her indefinite hunger strike to condemn Iran's escalating use
of capital punishment. The letter outlined her concerns with Iran’s
judicial framework and the inhumane conditions she endured in Evin
prison. Her protest gained traction among activists, academics, and KJAR,
who collectively highlighted the urgency of her demands as her health
worsened. By the strike's 16th day, civil activists launched a
solidarity statement, pledging to begin their own hunger strikes from 26
October in support of Moradi’s cause. "Nothing should be more precious
than human life," they said. "We need her voice and presence throughout
this resistance." In a public show of support, KJAR amplified Moradi's
plight on 25 October, calling for the immediate end of her strike due to
her critical condition, which included severe blood pressure drops,
dizziness, and extreme weight loss. KJAR further committed to a
three-day hunger strike across several European countries, protesting
Iran's capital punishment practices and expressing solidarity with
Moradi's cause. This advocacy was bolstered by the Transnational
Democratic Platform of Iranian Women, which also called for an end to
Iran's executions, launching a campaign in support of Moradi's mission.
Sharife Zarini, the mother of executed political prisoner Ramin Hossein
Panahi, personally appealed to Moradi to halt her strike, pledging to
join the cause. Moradi's protest spotlighted Iran’s dire prison
conditions and stirred a wave of international support, mobilising
activists from various fronts and renewing hopes for women's and human
rights reforms in Iran. Her decision to end the strike symbolises a
powerful moment in the broader struggle for justice and women's rights
in the region.>>

<<Narges Mohammadi allowed to be hospitalized
Iranian authorities have allowed imprisoned Nobel Peace Prize laureate
Narges Mohammadi to be hospitalized after almost nine weeks of feeling
sick, the Free Narges Coalition announced on Sunday.
News Center- Iranian authorities have allowed imprisoned Nobel Peace
Prize laureate Narges Mohammadi to be hospitalized after almost nine
weeks of feeling sick, the free Narges Coalition, a campaign group for
Narges Mohammadi, announced on Sunday. The campaign group called on
Iranian authorities to grant Narges Mohammadi a medical furlough to
receive comprehensive treatment for multiple conditions, saying, "Just
transferring her to the hospital will not address the severe health
issues caused by months of neglect and deprivation." In February 2022,
Narges Mohammadi was transferred to the hospital and underwent an
angiography. Since the main artery of her heart had 75% blockage, a
stent was placed in that artery.
Narges Mohammadi has been also suffering from acute back and knee pain,
including a herniated spinal disc.>>

Increased pressure by IRGC on the family of Armita Geravand
Hengaw Organisation for Human Right - Oct 27, 2024
<<Increased pressure by security agencies on the family of Armita
Geravand; one year after her state-sanctioned murder
Hengaw's sources report that the security agencies of the Islamic
Republic of Iran have imposed severe pressure on the family of the
deceased teenager Armita Geravand on the first anniversary of her
state-sanctioned murder. According to reports received by Hengaw
Organization for Human Rights, security agencies have recently pressured
Armita's family and prohibited them from posting any content on social
media related to her. The family was even prevented from posting a story
about the floral wreath prepared for her grave, with security forces
stopping this action.
Increased pressure by IRGC on the family of Armita Geravand
A family member told Hengaw, "For several days now, the home of Armita's
family in Tehran has been under heavy surveillance by security forces,
and all movements to and from their residence are being closely
monitored. These agencies have warned the family that Armita's memorial
must not take place at their home or at her gravesite." This source, who
requested anonymity for security reasons, added: "Since the morning of
Saturday, October 26, security forces have been stationed around
Armita's grave to prevent any gathering on the anniversary of her
murder."
Increased pressure by IRGC on the family of Armita Geravand
Armita Geravand, born on April 2, 2006, in Kermanshah (Kermashan), was
rendered unconscious on October 1, 2023, following an altercation with
government agents due to her non-compliance with the mandatory hijab law
in Tehran's metro. She was admitted to Fajr Hospital, affiliated with
the Army’s Medical Sciences University, and fell into a coma. After 28
days, she passed away on October 28, 2023.>>

The Islamic Republic's Ministry of Intelligence has been summoning and
threatening ordinary citizens in the West Azerbaijan and Kurdistan
provinces.
According to IranWire sources, over the past week, the ministry has been
summoning and threatening ordinary citizens, along with sending SMS
requests for collaboration with security agencies. This has led to
widespread discontent among citizens in various cities in Kurdistan
Province.
Additionally, in the past week, the ministry has repeatedly summoned
civil activists through phone calls, questioning them for hours and
warning them against posting content online about people’s living
conditions, inflation, and particularly regarding tensions with Israel.
The summonses and interrogations have been carried out without any
judicial warrants. Civil activists have been particularly targeted, and

<<Baha'i Musician Sentenced to 11 Years in Iran
A Revolutionary Court in Tehran has sentenced Baha'i musician Behrad
Azargan to 11 years in prison and ordered the confiscation of his
personal belongings. The verdict, delivered by Branch 15, cites multiple
charges against Azargan. He received five years for alleged educational
activities against Islamic law, four years for membership in
anti-Islamic Republican groups, and two years for purportedly spreading
false information. In addition to the prison sentence, the court imposed
a two-year ban on Azargan's social media use and international travel.
The ruling also mandates the confiscation of items seized during a July
3 raid on Azargan's home, during which security forces took his phone

appeared at the Security Prosecutor's Office to answer propaganda
charges. He was detained then but later released on bail from Evin

Maryam Akbari Monfared
NCRI - October 30, 2024
<<Political Prisoner Maryam Akbari Monfared in Solitary Confinement at
the Notorious Qarchak Prison
Political prisoner Maryam Akbari Monfared, recently transferred to
Qarchak Prison, remains in solitary confinement. She completed her
15-year prison sentence in exile at Semnan Prison on October 11, 2024,
without a single day of furlough. However, the clerical regime's
Judiciary-acting on orders from the regime's Ministry of
Intelligence-sentenced her to an additional three years, with two years
set for immediate enforcement, based on two baseless cases and without
any evidence. Her new alleged charges include <propaganda against the
regime,> <insulting the leadership,> <gathering and collusion,>
<spreading falsehoods and disturbing public opinion,> and <inciting
people against national security.>
Yet, Maryam Akbari Monfared's principal <crime> is her pursuit of
justice for her sister and three brothers, executed by the regime, and
her formal complaint in 2016 against those responsible for these
murders. In early July, the news agency Shargh reported that the
regime's Executive Headquarters of Imam's Directive filed a fresh
lawsuit seeking to confiscate Maryam's and her family's assets.
Nevertheless, on Tuesday, October 22, 2024, the regime transferred
Maryam Akbari Monfared to the infamous Qarchak Prison, where she has
endured nearly ten days in solitary confinement. Located in Varamin
County in Tehran Province, Qarchak holds about 2,000 prisoners in
deplorable conditions, with salty water and sanitation that falls
drastically short of international standards. In a statement dated
October 22, 2024, the Women's Committee of the National Council of
Resistance of Iran urgently called upon the UN High Commissioner for
Human Rights, the UN Human Rights Council, the Special Rapporteur on
Human Rights in Iran, the Special Rapporteur on Violence Against Women,
and other advocates of human and women's rights to condemn the inhumane
treatment of political prisoners by the regime-particularly the
treatment of female prisoners-and to take immediate action to secure
Maryam Akbari Monfared's release.>>

A 13-year-old Baloch child, identified as Abdulmo’er Shahbakhsh, was
arrested by resorting to violence and physical force by the security
forces of the Islamic Republic of Iran in the Sarjangal area of Zahedan
and was transferred to an unknown location. According to a report
received by the Hengaw Organization for Human Rights, on Tuesday,
October 29, 2024, security forces arrested Abdulmo'er Shahbakhsh, a
13-year-old Baloch boy from the village of 'Sorna'i' in the Sarjangal
area of Zahedan. He was subsequently transferred to an undisclosed
location. As reported by the Haalvsh news outlet, passengers in two
vehicles, one with a personal license plate and the other military
arrested the child in front of a supermarket, employing violent means.
It is noteworthy that despite the family's efforts to obtain information
about Abdulmo'er's whereabouts and health, they have not received any
updates, as security agencies have refused to provide any clear
information on the matter. So far, there is no precise information
available regarding the reasons for his arrest, the charges against him,
the location of his custody, or his conditions.>>

Keyvan Mohammadi
Hengaw Organisation for Human Right - Oct 30, 2024
<<Keyvan Mohammadi, a Member of the Justice-Seeking Families, Arrested
by Security Forces in Sanandaj
Keyvan Mohammadi, a Kurdish man from Sanandaj and the brother of Kiomars
Mohammadi-who was executed 17 years ago for security-related charges-was
arrested a month ago at the entrance of this city by agents the Iranian
Intelligence. According to a report received by the Hengaw Organization
for Human Rights, on Tuesday, October 1, 2024, 38-year-old Keyvan
Mohammadi, a resident of the village of Shiyan near Sanandaj, was
arrested by intelligence forces in this city. The arrest coincided with
a missile attack by Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) on
Israel and occurred ten days before the anniversary of the execution of
his brother, Kiomars Mohammadi. A source close to Keyvan Mohammadi's
family stated that he works as a driver, transporting agricultural
goods. He was arrested at the entrance of Sanandaj while transferring a
load from Kamyaran to this city's produce market. Since his arrest, he
has only managed a brief phone call to inform his family that he is
being held in a detention facility.
Kiomars Mohammadi, Keyvan's brother, was arrested on Sunday, February
18, 2007, along with his cousin Nader Mohammadi by IRGC intelligence
agents in Shahramfar, Sanandaj. On Saturday, August 2007, the two
political prisoners were sentenced to death by the Second Branch of the
Iranian Islamic Revolutionary Court in Sanandaj on charges of <moharebeh>

membership in the Kurdistan Democratic Party of Iran, and identifying

Central Prison
The sentence to amputate the four fingers of the right hands of two
Kurdish brothers, Mehrdad Taimuri, aged 34, and Shahab Taimuri, aged 40,
from Sarpol-e Zahab and residents of Karaj, was executed in Urmia
Central Prison. According to a report received by the Hengaw
Organization for Human Rights, the amputation was carried out via a
guillotine on Tuesday, October 29, 2024. Following the procedure, both
brothers were transferred to the prisoners reception section of Khomeini
Hospital in Urmia. The right to communication and visitation has been
denied to Mehrdad and Shahab Taimuri since the finger amputation
sentence was carried out. Under the influence and coercion of Khanzadeh,
the head of Urmia Central Prison, and Hussain Majidi, the district
attorney for Urmia, this sentence was executed. Reports indicate that
the guillotine machine has allegedly been moved to Urmia Central Prison,
heightening concerns about the potential execution of amputation
sentences for five additional inmates: Hadi Rostami, Mehdi Sharfian,
Mehdi Shahiwand, Kasra Karmi, and Mortaza Ismailian. The two brothers,
Mehrdad and Shahab Taimuri, along with a third individual, Iraj Khatibi,
were arrested on charges of theft in Malard, Karaj, on December 6, 2018.
On July 24, 2019, Branch 1 of the Juvenile Criminal Court in Urmia
sentenced all three to the amputation of four fingers from their right
hands as punishment for theft. In April 2020, Branch 24 of the Supreme
Court upheld the amputation sentences for Mehrdad Teimouri and Shahab
Teimouri. However, Iraj Khatibi’s sentence did not meet the threshold
for hadd (prescribed punishment under Islamic law) and was subsequently

Protest Amidst the 40th Week of the "Tuesdays Against Execution"
Campaign
On Tuesday, October 29, 2024, coinciding with the 40th week of the
"Tuesdays Against Execution" campaign, a large group of families of
death row prisoners gathered in Tehran to protest. They marched towards
the parliament, chanting "Do not execute!" Last week, on the 39th week
of the "Tuesdays Against Execution" campaign, families of death row
prisoners also held a demonstration in front of the parliament in
Tehran. In October and November 2023, a series of protests and
gatherings took place in Tehran and Karaj by families of death row
prisoners. These were ultimately met with violence and suppression by
security forces.
....
Harrowing Reports from Prisoners
In a statement, the participating prisoners declared: "In the medieval
regime ruling Iran, we witness a daily increase in executions. Since
October 22, 2024, 27 individuals were hanged over three days, averaging
seven executions per day. Since the beginning of this year, nearly 567
individuals have been executed, of which only 150 were between September
22 and October 21." Unfortunately, on the previous day, Jamshid Sharmahd
was executed after four years of imprisonment. He had been held in a
security detention center all this time. Security agencies did not allow
his transfer to a general ward for four years, aiming to conceal the
torture and human rights violations he endured.
Resilience Amidst Repression
The statement from the striking prisoners also emphasized: "Despite all
the repression and instilling fear in society, resistance and
steadfastness continue. Last week, during the 'Tuesdays Against
Execution' campaign, a group of families of death row prisoners gathered
in front of the parliament to protest executions."

<<Varisha Moradi in Dire Health on 16th Day of Hunger Strike
The physical condition of political prisoner Varisha Moradi has
reportedly become dire and concerning as she enters her 16th day on a
hunger strike. Moradi began her open-ended hunger strike on October 10,
2024, protesting the escalation of death sentences, her prolonged
detention, and the denial of family and attorney visits. Since mid-May
2024, Varisha Moradi has been barred from in-person visits and phone
calls with her family and legal counsel. Her first court session was
held on June 17, 2024; however, her attorneys were prohibited from
presenting a defense. The second hearing, initially scheduled for August
4, 2024, in Branch 15 of Tehran’s Revolutionary Court, did not proceed,
as Moradi refused to attend in protest of the death sentences handed
down to two political prisoners, Sharifeh Mohammadi and Pakhshan Azizi.
A subsequent hearing, scheduled for August 28, 2024, was also postponed
due to the absence of both the prosecutor's representative and the
judge. In early February 2024, the 5th Branh of the Public and
Revolutionary Court of Tehran charged Varisha Moradi with Bagh-y or
<armed insurgency,> for membership in a Kurdish opposition party. This
is a very heavy charge which can carry long prison terms and even the
death sentence.
She was transferred from Ward 209 to the women's ward of Evin Prison
after the end of her interrogations on December 26, 2023. Varisha was
abducted by security forces on August 1, 2023, in Kermanshah, on her way
to Sanandaj in western Iran. Ms. Moradi was denied the right to her
chosen lawyer and due process. She was only allowed to call the lawyer
after an indictment was issued. She was only allowed to see her family
once during her six months of incarceration. Reports say Varisha spent
the first five months of incarceration in solitary confinement in the
detention center of the Department of Intelligence in Sanandaj and Ward
209 in Evin Prison where she was viciously tortured to make false
confessions against herself. Varisha Moradi is a women's rights activist
and a member of the Free Women's Society of Eastern Kurdistan (KJAR). In
a September 26 statement addressed to the public, the United Nations
Special Rapporteur on Human Rights in Iran and international human
rights organizations, KJAR said Varisha Moradi was in Kurdistan to carry
out "political activities and to organize women." >>
