Maryam Yahyavi
Jinha - Womens News Agency - Oct 22, 2024
<<Maryam Yahyavi deprived of her right to make phone calls for 77 days
Iranian political prisoner Maryam Sadat Yahyavi has been deprived of her right to make phone calls since she expressed her support to Pakhshan Azizi in a letter.
News Center- Maryam Sadat Yahyavi, an activist and political prisoner imprisoned in Evin prison, has been deprived of her right to make phone calls for 77 days for publishing a letter outside the prison to support political prisoner Pakhshan Azizi, who was sentenced to death on July 23, 2024.
Maryam Sadat Yahyavi has been banned from family visits since August 16, 2024. On November 2, 2014, Maryam Sadat Yahyavi was arrested at her home by Iranian security forces. After 17 days of detention in Evin Prison, she was released on bail. Then, the Revolutionary Court of Tehran sentenced her to nine years in prison on charges such as <spreading propaganda against the regime> and <assembly and collusion against national security>. Her prison sentence was later reduced to one year following an appeal. On March 3, 2024, she began to serve her one-year prison sentence in Evin prison following her appearance at Evin Courthouse.>>

NO to executions Tuesdays
Hengaw Organisation for Human Right - Oct 22, 2024
<<The Sheiban Prison in Ahvaz has joined the No To Execution Wednesdays" campaign in its 39th week
As we mark the anniversary of the 2022 protests and the deaths of those involved, along with the deepening internal and external crises of the government, we continue to witness a rapid and widespread increase in executions. In October alone, over 140 people have been executed, five of them women. According to reports from the past week, about 35 people have been executed, with 17 executed on a single day, October 16. In another act of repression, four Arab political prisoners in Sheiban Prison, Ahvaz, have been transferred to solitary confinement for execution, and their lives are in grave danger. In response to these inhumane rulings, a group of political prisoners in Sheiban Prison has issued a statement announcing their support for the "No to Execution Wednesdays" campaign. The campaign condemns these systematic executions and calls on all activists, political, civil, labor, and human rights organizations, as well as all conscious individuals inside and outside Iran, to stand against these repressive measures. Opposing death sentences and their enforcement must become a social demand. This will only be achieved through resistance, solidarity, and collective will. Together, we can stop this killing machine and dismantle the foundation of these inhumane rulings in our country. Members of the "No to Execution Wednesdays" campaign are on hunger strike on Tuesday, October 22, 2024, marking the 39th week of this campaign across 23 different prisons, with a group of striking prisoners participating in the hunger strike in the following prisons:
Evin Prison (women's ward, 4 and 8), Ghezel Hesar (wards 3 and 4), Central Karaj , Tehran Bozorg , Khorramabad , Arak , Esfahan's Asadabad , Shiraz Military , Bam , Mashhad , Lakan Prison in Rasht (men's and women's wards), Qaemshahr , Ardabil , Tabriz , Urmia , Salmas , Khoy , Naqadeh , Saqqez , Baneh , Marivan , Kamyaran , and Sheiban Prison in Ahvaz.

Hengaw Organisation for Human Right - Oct 22, 2024
<<Sina Saraeefard Shirazi, Iranian Gay Blogger and Asylum Seeker, Faces Imminent Risk of Deportation from Turkey to Iran
Sina Saraeefard Shirazi, a 27-year-old gay Iranian blogger residing in Denizli, Turkey, is at imminent risk of deportation to Iran. Given the criminalization of homosexuality in Iran, deportation would place him in severe danger, potentially exposing him to imprisonment, torture, or even execution. According to reports received by Hengaw Organization for Human Rights, Sina, who has been seeking asylum in Turkey, was served a final deportation order on September 26, 2024. This order was issued by a Turkish court citing the pretext of <disrupting public order.> Sina, an outspoken member of the queer community and a blogger active on Instagram, began his advocacy following the "Jin, Jiyan, Azadi" movement, aiming to raise awareness about LGBTQIA+ rights in both Iran and Turkey. Tragically, 14 months ago, he was sexually assaulted by an Islamist in Turkey, resulting in severe physical and psychological trauma. Hengaw has verified the hospital records documenting Sina’s treatment following the assault. Sina and his partner, also a gay Iranian man, have been living in precarious conditions in Turkey. Speaking to Hengaw, Sina explained, "My partner and I face extreme hardships here. As a Bahá’í and a gay man, my partner is constantly at risk of persecution. I, too, have been repeatedly threatened-both directly and through threats to my family-by agents of the Islamic Republic. After the sexual assault I endured, I was again targeted, along with someone who sheltered me when I fled from the police. Many Iranian asylum seekers, particularly queer individuals, are living in fear, and the police here often cooperate with Islamist factions or Iranian agents in harassing us. I am in constant fear for my life, and now, with the looming threat of deportation, the danger has escalated even further." Conditions for Iranian asylum seekers, especially those from marginalized communities such as the LGBTQIA+ community, have worsened in Turkey. Although homosexuality is not criminalized in Turkey, LGBTQIA+ individuals frequently face harassment and violence. Public queer gatherings are often disrupted by state authorities, and the Turkish government has empowered traditionalist and Islamist groups to act against sexual and gender minorities. In recent months, Turkish authorities have tightened residency requirements for Iranian asylum seekers and increasingly initiated deportations, including for those at risk of persecution or execution in Iran. The Islamic Republic of Iran is one of the few countries that criminalizes same-sex relations, with penalties as extreme as the death sentence. LGBTQIA+ individuals in Iran face systemic oppression, with punishments ranging from flogging to execution for charges related to <sodomy,> <corruption on earth,> and <promoting homosexuality.> These laws function as tools of state-sanctioned violence against gender and sexual minorities. Hengaw expresses grave concern over the potential deportation of Sina Saraeefard Shirazi and underscores that the laws and punishments targeting sexual and gender minorities in Iran amount to clear violations of human rights and constitute what can only be described as gender and sexual apartheid. Hengaw calls on the international community to intervene to prevent the deportation of Sina and his partner, as well as to protect the rights of LGBTQIA+ asylum seekers globally.>>

Hengaw Organisation for Human Right - Oct 20, 2024
<<Prisoner who committed suicided still executed posthumously in Birjand, Iran
The death sentence of Baloch prisoner Bahman Sheikh-Hosseini, who attempted suicide before the execution was carried out in Birjand Central Prison. Hengaw Organisation for Human Right - Oct 20, 2024
<<Saqqez, Iran: Abdollah Sharifzadeh arrested to serve prison term
Abdollah Sharifzadeh, a Kurdish individual and a member of the 'Halo Mountaineering Group' in Saqqez, has been arrested and transferred to the central prison of this city. According to a report received by Hengaw Organization for Human Rights, on Sunday, October 20, 2024, 30-year-old Abdollah Sharifzadeh, a resident of Saqqez, was arrested after being summoned to the Enforcement Branch of the Revolutionary Court in Saqqez. Hengaw had previously reported that Sharifzadeh's appeal to overturn the verdict was rejected by the Revolutionary Court of Sanandaj. After being detained for one day, he was released pending the completion of his legal proceedings.>>

<<Prisoner dies from lack of medical attention in Zabol, Iran
A Baloch prisoner named Noorali Kohkan died in Zabol Prison due to a lack of adequate medical attention. According to a report received by the Hengaw Organization for Human Rights, on Thursday, October 17, 2024, 40-year-old Noorali Kohkan, from Nimruz County, Sistan and Balouchistan province, passed away in Zabol Prison after experiencing serious health complications that went untreated by prison authorities. Rasad Balochistan news outlet reported that Kohkan had been suffering from heart problems and difficulty breathing. Despite his deteriorating condition, the prison's health staff ignored his symptoms, only offering him painkillers instead of providing the necessary medical treatment. The family was notified of Noorali's worsening condition through a phone call from another prisoner. When they arrived at the prison, they were informed that Noorali had passed away and that his body was in the morgue. In response, Noorali Kohkan's family has filed a complaint against the authorities of Zabol Prison, demanding answers regarding his death. However, they have not yet been granted access to his body. Noorali Kohkan had been serving a 10-year sentence after being convicted of participating in a kidnapping. He had been in prison for two years prior to his death.>>
