Women of Shahba
Jinha - Womens News Agency 29 Nov 2024 - by RUBARIN BEKIR
<<Women of Shahba call for immediate revocation of death sentence
against Warisha Moradi
Women of Shahba call on the Iranian state to immediately revoke the
death sentence handed down to Warisha Moradi.
Shahba- Warisha Moradi, a women's rights defender and a member of the
East Kurdistan Free Women Society (KJAR), was arrested by Iranian
security forces in Sanandaj on August 1, 2023. She faced an unfair
trial. In October 2024, she held a 20-day hunger strike in Evin prison
to protest the death penalty in Iran. On November 10, she was sentenced
to death by Branch 15 of the Tehran Islamic Revolutionary Court on
charges of <armed rebellion> against the Iranian regime. Women all
around the world demand an immediate revocation of the death sentence
handed down to her. The displaced women of Afrin, who live in Shahba say
Warisha Moradi was sentenced to death because she defends women's
rights, calling on the Iranian state to immediately revoke the death
sentence.
'Women have shaken the authority in Iran'
"Women activists in Iran are strong because they emerge from the womb of
pain," said Arin Bakir, deputy chair of the Women's Council in Afrin/Shahba
Canton of North and East Syria. "The mullahs in Iran try to suppress
women's identity and free will." Recalling the "Jin, Jiyan, Azadi"
uprising that sparked in Iran following the killing of Jina Mahsa Amini
in Tehran, Arin Bakir said, "Women took to the streets against the
regime that oppresses them. Many women activists have been arrested,
tortured and sentenced to death because they have shaken the authority
in Iran."
Arin Bakir condemned the death sentence imposed on Warisha Moradi. "This
sentence is an attack against all women, aiming at silencing women and
destroying their free will. The "Jin, Jiyan, Azadi" uprising is a
women's revolution against the patriarchal mindset that enslaves women.
As women, we will keep struggling for our freedom and following in
Warisha Moradi's footsteps."
'Women have a strong will'
Nashham Hamo, member of the Young Women's Union, drew attention to the
increase in violence against women all around the world, including
Syria. "Women's rights are violated in the occupied areas. The Turkish
state targets pioneering women in North and East Syria. One of the most
important goals of capitalist and authoritarian countries is to silence
women who fight against their policies. Fascist countries target women
to target the entire society because they know that women have a strong
will." >>

Vida Rabani and Motahareh Goonehi
Jinha - Womens News Agency 28 Nov 2024
<<Hunger strike started by two female political prisoners in Evin prison
continues
The hunger strike started by Vida Rabani and Motahareh Goonehi in the
Women's Ward of Evin Prison on November 18 to protest the denial of
medical care for Narges Mohammadi and Warisha Moradi continues.
News Center- Journalist Vida Rabani and student activist Motahareh
Goonehi, imprisoned in Evin prison, started a hunger strike on November
18, 2024, to protest the denial of medical care for Narges Mohammadi, a
Nobel Peace Prize laureate, a prominent woman human rights defender, and
a journalist, and Warisha Moradi, a Kurdish political prisoner sentenced
to death.
Narges Mohammadi - Varisheh Moradi
In a letter from Evin prison, Vida Rabani said, Narges Mohammadi's
health "is deteriorating, with a severe surgical wound, bedsores, and a
lack of necessary medical care. Warisha Moradi suffers from duodenal
ulcer since her hunger strike protesting the death sentence handed down
to her," describing their hunger strike as an "act of desperation in the
face of oppression." On September 24, 2022, Vida Rabani was arrested
following a house raid during the protests that sparked in Iran
following the killing of Jina Mahsa Amini in Tehran. On December 31,
2022, she was sentenced to seven years and three months in prison by
Branch 26 of Tehran Revolutionary Court on charges of <gathering and
colluding against national security> and <propaganda against state.>
Motahareh Goonehi, a suspended student of Tehran University, was
arrested on May 1, 2023 and transferred to Evin Prison. She was released
on bail four days later. In July 2024, she was sentenced to one year in
prison by Branch 29 of the Revolutionary Court of Tehran. In October
2024, she was rearrested and transferred to Evin prison after her prison
sentence was upheld by Branch 36 of the Tehran Court of Appeals.>>

Halimeh Habibollahi
NCRI - Womens committee - 26 Nov 2024 - in Documents, Women's News
<<Halimeh Habibollahi, Young Mother and Child Marriage Victim Murdered,
Framed as Suicide
A tragic case from Iran highlights the deadly consequences of child
marriage and domestic violence. Halimeh Habibollahi, a 22-year-old
mother of two, originally from Izeh in southwestern Iran, was reportedly
killed in the southern port city of Bandar Abbas. Her death, initially
declared a suicide by hanging, has been disputed by her family and close
contacts, who allege foul play orchestrated by her abusive husband.
A Tragic Background
Halimeh was a victim of forced marriage and domestic abuse. Growing up
in Izeh, she was coerced into marrying her cousin, Ashkan Habibollahi,
after her family discovered she had been in a relationship with another
boy when she was a teenager. This forced union marked the beginning of a
life fraught with violence. Halimeh's husband was known to physically
abuse her, to the extent that her father-in-law refused to leave her
alone with him out of fear for her safety. Halimeh lived in a village in
the Chaharmahal and Bakhtiari province before her husband recently took
her and their children to Bandar Abbas under the pretext of visiting his
sister.
The Suspicious Death
On the morning of Friday, November 22, Halimeh’s husband claimed she had
taken her own life by hanging herself from a one-meter gas pipe in the
house they were staying in. However, family members and informed sources
dismissed the suicide claim, arguing that her physical stature made it
impossible for her to hang herself in that manner. They believe her
death was premeditated murder disguised as suicide. Those close to
Halimeh insist her husband's history of violence and the circumstances
surrounding her death point to a deliberate attempt to cover up the
crime. The alleged murder has drawn attention to the unchecked violence
against women and the societal pressures that enable such abuse.
A Widespread Issue
Halimeh's story is tragically common in Iran, where child marriage and
domestic violence are systemic problems. Forced marriages, especially
among teenagers, often lead to lifelong trauma and abuse. Women in such
situations are frequently left without recourse due to societal stigma,
lack of legal protections, and patriarchal norms. The surge in violence
against women in Iran, including domestic abuse and femicide, is deeply
rooted in the regime's inherently misogynistic laws. These laws include
provisions that designate a father or paternal grandfather as the
guardian of a girl's blood rights and allow so-called <honor killings,>
granting fathers, brothers, husbands, and in-laws virtual impunity for
murdering women under the pretext of defending <honor.> In a regime that
has entrenched and institutionalized violence against women at its core,
mere calls to prevent such violence fall woefully short of addressing
the issue. The only viable solution lies in regime change. Only then,
under a democratic republic in Iran, can the women of Iran experience
peace, security, and the dignity of living in a safe and equitable
society.>>

Pershang Qobad Zahiri
NCRI - November 25, 2024
<<Pershang Qobad Zahiri, 26 and mother of a 3-year-old, is shot and
killed by security forces
On Tuesday, November 19, 2024, Iranian border guard forces shot and
critically wounded 26-year-old Pershang Qobad Zahiri, a female kolbar,
mother of a three-year-old child, and resident of the Nowsud district in
Paveh County. Pershang Qobad Zahiri was attacked while carrying goods
along the dangerous border routes. Tragically, on Friday, November 22,
2024, she succumbed to her severe injuries and passed away in a hospital
in Kermanshah. Reports indicate that Pershang Qobad Zahiri was shot
directly from behind by border forces, underscoring the brutal nature of
the assault. Adding to the tragedy, security forces have since detained
her father, Idris Qobad Zahiri, and her brother, compounding the grief
and injustice faced by her family. The clerical regime's state security
forces systematically shoot the poor kolbars who have no choice but to
carry heavy loads across the border to earn a living. Pershang is the
first female kolbar to be shot and killed while doing her job.>>

<<Senior IRGC Commander Kiomars Pourhashemi Killed in Syria
The Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) announced on Thursday that
Brigadier General Kiomars Pourhashemi, a senior military adviser, was
killed during an attack by armed opposition groups in Syria's Aleppo.
The IRGC statement identified Pourhashemi as one of the <Defenders of
the Shrine> and reported that he was killed in an attack attributed to
Hayat Tahrir al-Sham. The attack, which happened Wednesday night,
reportedly resulted in dozens of deaths. Tehran-backed militias and
Russian forces support President Assad. At the same time, Turkey backs
the rebels in the last opposition stronghold, and a small number of U.S.
troops in eastern Syria focus on fighting ISIS. Hayat Tahrir al-Sham,
the militant group ruling the north-western Syrian region, claimed
responsibility for the attack. They claimed it was in retaliation for
increased Russian and Syrian airstrikes on civilian areas in southern
Idlib. The group is designated as a terrorist organization by the United
States and several other countries. In recent years, the IRGC has been
involved in supporting the Syrian government and fighting opposition
groups. Senior IRGC commanders like Pourhashemi have frequently been
targeted. Syrian Islamist rebels have launched their largest offensive
in years against President Bashar al-Assad's forces, capturing at least
15 villages and killing a senior Iranian commander as they advanced
toward Aleppo. This marks the first significant challenge in four years
to Assad and his key allies, Russia and Iran. The militants pushed
eastward from Idlib, the last major opposition stronghold, which has
remained in a stalemate since a ceasefire brokered by Moscow and Ankara
in 2020.>>

Iranwire - Nov 28, 2024
<<Blinded Iranian Protester Sentenced to Over Three Years in Prison
A young Iranian protester, blinded by security forces during the 2022
nationwide protests, has been sentenced to over three years in prison.
Nemat Afshar announced that he was sentenced to three years and six
months. According to information obtained by IranWire, the sentence,
issued by a lower court, is subject to appeal. Earlier, Afshar shared
details of a conversation with the judge handling his case on his
Instagram story. He said that the sentence was given because he had
assisted protesters. Afshar recounted the exchange during his
interrogation, saying, "The judge told me, 'You are all a bunch of
dishonorable people who came out to get naked.' I replied, 'I acted out
of honor. I saw our daughters being beaten, killed, and raped, and no
one was held accountable.'" He also recalled his response when accused
of rioting, "I wasn't a rioter. I was empty handed, only shouting and
protesting. It was your forces who targeted and shot my eye. Your forces
were the ones who started it - throwing tear gas. An elderly woman
couldn't breathe and collapsed. When I went to help her, your forces
attacked and severely beat me." Afshar lost vision in one eye after
being shot with pellet guns by security forces during a protest in

<<Tehran Police Crack Down on Cafes for Hijab Violations
Police in Tehran shut down several cafes on Tuesday evening for failing
to enforce mandatory hijab regulations. The targeted cafes are located
along Valiasr Street between Vanak Square and Parkway. In addition to
the cafes, some cultural venues, including bookstores, received warnings
of potential closure for non-compliance with the hijab law. The action
is part of an ongoing intensified crackdown by Iran's police and
judiciary. The Islamic Republic, through organizations like the
Promotion of Virtue and Prevention of Vice Headquarters, continues to
enforce compulsory hijab nationwide. Despite the Islamic Republic's
policies criminalizing non-compliance and the increasingly harsh
treatment of women by both official and unofficial forces, many Iranian
women persist in acts of civil disobedience, refusing to comply with the
mandatory hijab laws. Since April 13, Iran's law enforcement agencies
have ramped up efforts to enforce hijab regulations under the national
action plan <Noor.> Numerous reports of women being arrested and
subjected to force for perceived violations of dress codes have emerged
across the country. In response, users on social media have launched a
spontaneous campaign, using the hashtag "war against women" to document
their experiences and observations regarding the government's crackdown
on opponents of the mandatory hijab.>>

electronics engineer, has been incarcerated for the past 65 days, while
her husband, Farshan Saraei, a 51-year-old writer and university

<<Iranian Lawyer Sentenced to Prison for Criticizing Judicial System
The Islamic Republic's authorities have sentenced an Iranian lawyer to
one year in prison and imposed a two-year ban on practicing law. Behnam
Nezadi, a member of Iran's Bar Association, was sentenced by Branch 2 of
the Revolutionary Court in central Arak. According to HRANA Human Rights
Activists News Agency, Nezadi was convicted of <propaganda against the
Islamic Republic.> He also faces additional pending charges of
<spreading falsehoods> and <disclosing confidential information> at the
Criminal Court. During his preliminary interrogation in July,
authorities accused him of undermining the judiciary, eroding judges'
confidence, and attempting to overthrow the Islamic Republic. The case
is part of a broader pattern of increasing restrictions on lawyers and
civil rights activists in Iran. Earlier this year, two United Nations
experts condemned the "enormous obstacles and pressures" faced by
Iranian lawyers providing legal support to protesters. Since the
nationwide protests began in September 2022, at least 66 lawyers have
been arrested and detained. "In an attempt to both intimidate them and
prevent them from representing protesters, eleven of these lawyers have
been sentenced, and 47 have been released pending trial," the experts
said. Many others have faced intimidation, harassment, and disbarment.>>
