Two Baluch Citizens
Iranwire - Nov 18, 2024
<<Two Baluch Citizens Arrested in Iran, Whereabouts Unknown
The Islamic Republic's security forces have arrested two Baluch citizens
in Sistan and Baluchistan province and transferred them to an
undisclosed location. Shaker Damani, 25, was arrested on Thursday when
Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) intelligence forces conducted a
raid on his house in Mehrestan district. His arrest followed the
detention of Zahed Damani, who was detained on Wednesday at a checkpoint
for allegedly lacking identification documents. The specific charges
against both men remain unclear, and their current detention locations
have not been disclosed. According to the Hengaw human rights
organization, family members' efforts to obtain information about their
status and whereabouts have been unsuccessful.>>

Roshanak Malai-Alishah
Hengaw Organisation for Human Right - 18 Nov 2024
<<Roshanak Malai-Alishah remains detained amid uncertainty about her
condition
According to reports received by Hengaw Organization for Human Rights,
Roshanak Malai-Alishah-previously referred to as Roshanak Moulai-Alishah
in a prior report-has been transferred to Qarchak Prison in Varamin and
remains in legal limbo 15 days after her arrest. Roshanak Malai-Alishah,
a 25-year-old Turkish woman originally from Tabriz and residing in
Tehran, was arrested on Sunday, November 3, 2024, no clear charges or
legal proceedings have been announced, and she continues to be held in
Ward 8, formerly designated for political prisoners but now renamed the
<Mothers or Health Ward.> A day prior to her arrest by intelligence
agents, Roshanak was summoned by the Cyber Police (FATA) on Saturday,
November 2, 2024, in connection with a video she shared on social media
on November 1. The video captured her confrontation with a government
official over mandatory hijab policies. The video, recorded through CCTV
cameras, showed her resisting physical and sexual harassment by the
official. Shortly after its publication, her social media account was
deactivated, and she was fined during an initial interrogation. This is
not Roshanak's first encounter with state persecution. During the "Woman,
Life, Freedom" movement, she was violently arrested in Tehran on
September 27, 2022. After being held in Evin Prison, she was transferred
to Qarchak Prison, where she remained until December 2022. Tehran's
Revolutionary Court sentenced her to six years and six months in prison
for <assembly and collusion,> but she was granted amnesty and released
on February 15, 2023, after serving nearly five months. Roshanak has
faced persistent harassment and repeated interrogations due to her
activism and social media posts. Her latest arrest stems from her
decision to expose mistreatment and harassment by a government official.
Despite being a victim of apparent physical and sexual abuse, she was
detained for resisting and publicly sharing the incident. Hengaw
considers the arrest of Roshanak Molaei-Alishah and the pressure imposed
on her as emblematic of the Islamic Republic of Iran’s broader gender
apartheid policies. Hengaw urges the international community to closely
monitor the escalating repression of women and sexual and gender
minorities in Iran and to advocate for the formal recognition of gender
apartheid within international legal frameworks.>>

Ghafar Akbari
Hengaw Organisation for Human Right - 17 Nov 2024
<<Ghafar Akbari dies due to torture at Malekan Intelligence Detention
Center
Ghafar Akbari, a Turkish man from Malekan County in East Azerbaijan
Province, died after severe torture inflicted by officers at the Malekan
Intelligence Detention Center. Security forces have pressured his family
not to publicize the news and threatened them against sharing details
about the case. According to reports received by the Hengaw Organization
for Human Rights, Ghafar Akbari, a father of four from the village of
Yoonqonlooy Jadid in Malekan, has died after enduring three weeks of
severe torture at the hands of officers from Malekan’s Intelligence
Department. Akbari, who had been arrested on charges of <premeditated
murder,> passed away on Saturday, November 16, 2024, while receiving
treatment at Sina Hospital in Maragheh. A source close to Akbari's
family stated that Ghafar Akbari endured brutal torture on the first day
of his arrest, Tuesday, October 29, 2024, at the Malekan Intelligence
Detention Center. The source reported that Akbari was bound in wet
clothes for 48 hours without food or water, repeatedly suspended, and
subjected to extreme abuse, including the forcible removal of his
toenails. The source further told Hengaw: Despite his deteriorating
condition, last week Akbari was transferred to solitary confinement in
Maragheh Central Prison. Dr. Reza Saadatian Varjavi, the prison's
medical doctor, repeatedly warned of the life-threatening nature of his
injuries and advocated for his transfer to an external medical facility.
However, the investigating judge, Akbar Salmanpour, opposed the transfer
until it was too late. Akbari was finally moved to Sina Hospital, where
he succumbed to his injuries two days later. During his three weeks of
detention, Akbari was denied family visitation, contact, medication, and
medical care. His body has been sent to the forensic office in Tabriz
for an autopsy but has not been returned to his family. Security forces
continue to threaten the family, warning them against disclosing
information about his death. Reports indicate that Malekan Prosecutor
Morteza Olyanasab and Judge Akbar Salmanpour played key roles in the
extended detention and torture of Akbari. Akbari leaves behind three
sons, aged 4, 10, and 18, and a young daughter.>>

Osman Mame
Hengaw Organisation for Human Right - 17 Nov 2024
<<Two years of forced disappearance of Osman Mame, a
"Woman-Life-Freedom" Movement Arrestee
Two years after the forced disappearance of Osman Mame, a Kurdish man
from Bukan and one of those abducted during the "Woman-Life-Freedom"
movement, no security or judicial institution of the Islamic Republic of
Iran has provided answers about his fate. According to a report received
by the Hengaw Organization for Human Rights, as of Sunday, November 17,
2024, it has been exactly two years since the forced disappearance of
Osman Mame. Despite his family's appeals to all security, judicial, and
supervisory institutions in Bukan and West Azerbaijan (Urmia) Province,
they have received no clear response regarding his arrest, fate, or
condition. Hengaw has learned that over the past two years, the family
even approached the Supreme Leader's extra-judicial institution known as
<Leader's House,> but were redirected to Bukan's security and judicial
institutions without receiving any answers. In recent follow-ups and
through conversation with an informed source, Hengaw has learned that
Bukan's Revolutionary Court judge told Osman Mame's family that the
Islamic Republic has nothing to hide from them, stating that if their
father had been killed, they would be informed as the government has no
fear of them, therefore their father must be alive. Hengaw previously
reported that in the father's absence and under pressure from attempting
to determine his fate, the family faces financial and psychological
challenges. Although some Bukan city officials have promised to
investigate Osman Mame's situation, no official or institution has
successfully obtained or provided information about his fate to his
family. According to Hengaw's investigations, throughout the past two
years, after each news report about Osman Mame's forced disappearance,
his family and relatives face pressure from security institutions. Osman
Mame, 57-years-old, has not had even one phone call with his family, and
no document or trace of him has been found since his abduction. Notably,
before his forced disappearance, Osman Mame worked as a laborer at a
poultry farm in Dukan, Kurdistan Region, and his wages were the family's
only source of income. Osman Mame, a resident of Bukan, was abducted by
Islamic Republic of Iran security forces on Friday evening, November 18,
2022, while returning home, and his fate remains unknown. Forced
disappearance is a crime against humanity where an individual is
arrested and concealed by state or political organizations without
providing information about their fate or location to family or society.
This act is typically carried out to create fear or as a method to
suppress and punish political opponents. Forced disappearance
constitutes a serious human rights violation and causes severe suffering
and uncertainty for victims' families and friends. Based on Article 2 of
the Convention for the Protection of All Persons from Enforced
Disappearance, Hengaw holds the Islamic Republic of Iran directly
responsible for Osman Mame's abduction and forced disappearance,
demanding accountability from the state authorities and immediate access
to his family, legal services, an attorney, and health services for
him.>>

Nurses and Retirees Protest Against Injustice
NCRI - November 16, 2024
<<Nurses and Retirees Protest Against Injustice in Tehran and Other
Cities
In recent days, protests have erupted across Tehran and other cities in
Iran, with a particularly strong presence of women in the
demonstrations. The protests reflect growing public discontent with the
Iranian regime's handling of workers' rights, pensions, and healthcare
services. On Saturday, November 16, 2024, nurses, and healthcare workers
at Loqman Hospital in Tehran staged a gathering in response to unmet
promises from the Ministry of Health regarding salaries, benefits, and
overtime pay. The healthcare professionals expressed their frustration
with the failure to fulfill these commitments, which have led to
worsening conditions in the healthcare sector.
Nurses Strike in Shiraz and Yasuj
On Tuesday and Wednesday, November 13 and 14, 2024, nurses, laboratory
staff, and radiologists in two major cities in southern Iran, Shiraz,
and Yasuj, joined forces in a strike. The healthcare workers at Rajai
Hospital and Zeynabieh Hospital in Shiraz, as well as three hospitals in
Yasuj, stopped their daily duties to protest inadequate wages and
overwhelming work pressure. The protesters are demanding salary
increases and a reduction in work demands, as they feel their
professional concerns have been neglected by the regime.
Emergency Personnel Protest in Fasa
On Tuesday, November 13, 2024, a group of emergency medical staff from
Fasa, a city in southern Iran located in Fars Province, gathered in
front of the Pre-Hospital Emergency and Disaster Management office in
the region. They called for improved wages, benefits, and attention to
their work conditions.
Retired Educators Protest in Tehran
On Saturday, November 16, 2024, retired educators gathered once again in
Tehran to express their anger at the ongoing injustices they face. The
protestors, retirees from 2021, demonstrated outside the Iranian
presidential office, demanding that their pensions be updated in line
with the promised ranking system and equalization reforms. They are also
calling for the implementation of these reforms and the payment of their
overdue pensions. Retired teachers from 2022 also took to the streets on
November 10 and 11, 2024, staging protests in front of the Ministry of
Education, the Planning and Budget Organization, and the President’s
office. They voiced their dissatisfaction with the partial payment of
their end-of-service benefits and chanted slogans demanding the
resignation of the education minister, whom they consider incompetent,
declaring: "Incompetent Minister-resign, resign."
A Widening Protest Movement
These recent protests, involving various sectors such as retirees,
teachers, nurses, healthcare workers, and workers from different
industries, underscore a broader societal discontent with the Iranian
regime’s failure to address economic hardships and workers' rights. The
expanding protests highlight the deepening dissatisfaction with the
regime’s governance and the increasing demand for regime change among
the Iranian public.>>

Kianoosh Sanjari
Iranwire - November 15, 2024
<<Lawyers Demand Action Against Social Media Incitement in Journalist's
Suicide
Two prominent Iranian lawyers have called on authorities to investigate
social media users who may have incited journalist Kianoosh Sanjari to
suicide through online comments. Lawyer Kambiz Norouzi cited Article 15B
of Iran's internet crime law, which criminalizes incitement to suicide
via electronic networks. "This is a public offense and does not require
a private plaintiff," Norouzi said. He has urged criminal prosecution of
users who posted provocative comments in response to Sanjari's final
messages. Lawyer Mohsen Borhani echoed these concerns, adding that
digital platform users who incite suicide could face imprisonment or
fines. He urged the prosecutor's office to take immediate action. These
legal demands come after Sanjari's death by suicide after he posted his
intentions on X. According to legal experts, some social media users
responded to these posts with comments that may have violated the law.>>
