Kianoosh Sanjari funeral
Iranwire - Nov 15, 2024
<<Iran Restricts Funeral Attendance for Journalist Kianoosh Sanjari
The Islamic Republic's security forces restricted access to the funeral
of journalist Kianoosh Sanjari at Tehran's Behesht Zahra cemetery. They
limited attendance to only close family members and relatives after
Sanjari's suicide on Wednesday evening. His death was a protest against
the imprisonment of political activists and what he called "the
dictatorship of Ali Khamenei." The funeral, initially scheduled for 10
a.m., underwent last-minute changes following what sources described as
pressure and threats from security officials directed at Sanjari's
family. Local sources reported that authorities closed Section 250 of
the cemetery and blocked public access to the burial site. Social media
footage also captured a significant security forces presence around
Sanjari's grave. The day before his death, Sanjari posted an ultimatum
on X to Iran's judiciary, demanding the release of several political
prisoners, including Fatemeh Sepehri, Nasrin Shakarami, Toomaj Salehi,
and Arsham Rezaei, by 7 p.m. on Wednesday.
Sanjari had a long history of activism and journalism. He served as a
journalist for Voice of America in Washington and faced multiple
imprisonments in Iran for his work. After spending several years in the
United States, Sanjari returned to Iran in 2016, where he was
immediately arrested and sentenced to 11 years in prison - five of those
years to be served immediately, with six years suspended. His sentence
also included a two-year travel ban. Sanjari left Iran for the United
States in March 2021 but later returned to Iran.>>

<<Four IRGC Members Killed in Southeastern Iran
Four members of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) were killed
in extended clashes with the Jaish ul-Adl group in Iran's southeastern
Sistan and Baluchistan province. The clash, which local media reported
lasted around ten hours, occurred in Jalalabad village in Sarbaz
district.
According to the IRGC, four Jaish ul-Adl fighters were killed and six
arrested in the confrontation. Jaish ul-Adl confirmed three casualties
within its ranks and claimed to have inflicted military casualties on
the IRGC. Baluch media outlets reported that the clashes began when IRGC
forces targeted a house allegedly occupied by armed individuals. They
also reported that local civilians were fired upon, with some residents
arrested during the operation. The clash follows recent IRGC operations
in the region. On November 8, the IRGC reported one personnel death, and
on November 10, it confirmed five <local Basij forces> casualties in
Saravan. Sistan and Baluchistan have experienced increased violence in
recent weeks, with multiple clashes reported between Iranian security
forces and opposition groups, particularly Jaish ul-Adl, resulting in
casualties on both sides. The southeastern province, which borders
Pakistan and Afghanistan, has long been a hotspot for conflict between
Iranian security forces and armed groups. Jaish ul-Adl is recognized as
a terrorist group by Iranian authorities and several Western
governments, including the United States.>>

Rukiye Muhammed
Jinha - Womens News Agency 14 Nov 2024 - by SILVA AL-IBRAHIM
<<'We must turn the 21st century into a century of Jin,Jiyan, Azadi'
The Third World War has been taking place in the Middle East, said
Rukiye Muhammed, member of the Zenubiya Women's Community, stressing
that women are no longer "victims of war" but lead revolutions.
Manbij- The violent conflicts in the Middle East have intensified,
turning into the Third World War. Although women and children are the
most affected by these conflicts, they are completely ignored by the
media. Women struggle to overcome challenges faced by them amid
conflicts, said Rukiye Muhammed, coordinating members of the Zenubiya
Women's Community. "Women play an active role in ending conflicts and
building peace."
Call on women to unite
"Women living in the Middle Eastern countries such as Lebanon,
Palestine, North and East Syria, and Iran have experienced the same
things," Rukiye Muhammed said. "If women unite, they can build global
peace. Despite all kinds of oppression, restrictions, women always rise
like a phoenix from the ashes. For instance, women in Iran and Eastern
Kurdistan started the "Jin,Jiyan, Azadi" revolution following the
killing of Jina Amini."
Recalling the genocide committed by ISIS against the Yazidi community in
Shengal (Sinjar), Rukiye Muhammed said, "Yazidi women were abducted,
raped and sold in slave markets. But today, Yazidi women have
participated in all facets of life, including politics and military.
They have their own defense force and protect their people from a new
genocide."
'Women are no longer victims of war'
Women in North and East Syria were subjected to the atrocity of ISIS,
Ruken Muhammed said, "Many women were killed and stoned by ISIS. But
today, these women participate in politics and the military to serve
their people. These women are no longer victims of war, they fight to
protect their people and build peace."
'The aim is to change the demographic structure'
Speaking about the ongoing Turkish attacks on North and East Syria,
Ruken Muhammed criticized the international silence against the attacks.
"The aim of these attacks is to change the demographic structure of the
region. The ongoing conflicts in the Middle East kill and displace women
and children. Women struggle to survive in silence."
Women's participation in peace processes
Rukiye Muhammed calls on women to participate in peace processes because
"this is not a situation that men can solve. If women participate in
peace processes, peace will become permanent. As women, we should break
the patriarchy and bring peace and security to the Middle East. We must
turn the 21st century into a century of Jin,Jiyan, Azadi." >>

<<Six Yamani followers arrested in Torbat-e Heydariyeh
Six residents of Torbat-e Heydariyeh-identified as Hossein Newruzi,
Rasoul Darat, Esmail Esmailzadeh, Hossein Hendabadi, Saeed Zakari, and
Mojtaba Esmailzadeh-who are followers of the Yamani movement, were
arrested by security forces of the Islamic Republic of Iran. According
to a report received by the Hengaw Organization for Human Rights, on
Monday, November 11, 2024, agents from the Intelligence Ministry
conducted coordinated raids on the residences of these individuals. The

Cartoon: Mana Neyestani - hijab clinics in Iran
Iranwire - Nov 13, 2024 - by Solmaz Eikdar
Iran to Establish 'Hijab Clinics' for Women Defying Mandatory Headscarf
Laws
Iranian authorities in Tehran have announced plans to establish a <hijab
clinic> for women who defy mandatory hijab laws. The plan comes from the
Tehran Promotion of Virtue and Prevention of Vice Headquarters, a
government body that enforces religious morality standards. According to
Mehri Talebi, head of the organization’s Women's and Family Department,
the <clinic> will formalize and expand <existing services that have been
operating on a volunteer basis.> <For some time, our experts in chastity
and hijab have been providing services to visitors through a phone line
and basic equipment,> Talebi said. The decision to expand came in
response to what she described as <increased demand.> Talebi explained
that the <clinic> will offer individual counseling, group sessions, and
skill-building workshops focused on self-awareness, identity, and
handling social pressures. She said that the <clinic> aims to provide
guidance and mental support for those who choose to wear the hijab or
face challenges adapting in certain settings, helping them <confidently
embrace modest clothing.> Programs at this <clinic> will include
educational courses led by <experts on the philosophy and values of
hijab,> its role in <reinforcing personal identity, and skills for
coping with social pressures.> Talebi also invited <cultural activists
and heads of cultural and social institutions> to participate in the
<clinic.>
Who is Mehri Talebi?
Talebi, now head of the Women's and Family Department at the Tehran
Promotion of Virtue and Prevention of Vice Headquarters, was previously
known for her interviews with government-affiliated media as a women's
affairs official in the IRGC's cultural division and as a researcher
from religious seminaries. She gained attention on Twitter after the
November 2019 protests, presenting the government's version of events in
Mahshahr, where she is from. An advocate of child marriage, Talebi's
daughter and son-in-law, Kowsar and Hossein, are a well-known couple who
married as teenagers and promote child marriage in state media.
