Varisheh Moradi
Jinha - Womens News Agency 22 Nov 2024 - by PERWIN AMARA
<<Jiyan Hisen of Kongra Star: We will reinforce the fight against
executions
"The death sentence handed down to Warisha Moradi is a message to
all revolutionary women," said Jiyan Hisen, coordinating member of
Kongra Star. "We will reinforce the fight against executions."
Qamishlo- Violence against women is on the rise in the Middle
East, violating women's right to life. The male-state system seeing
women's struggle as a great threat against it uses methods of violence
against women in society. On November 10, Warisha Moradi, a women's
rights defender and a member of the East Kurdistan Free Women Society (KJAR),
was sentenced to death by Branch 15 of the Tehran Islamic Revolutionary
Court on charges of <armed rebellion> against the Iranian regime. "We
will reinforce the fight against executions," said Jiyan Hisen,
coordinating member of Kongra Star.
'The death sentence is against all women'
The aim of this sentence is to punish all women, Jiyan Hisen
stressed, adding: "Warisha Moradi was sentenced to death in November, an
important month in the fight against violence against women. In
November, women organize activities and actions against violence.
However, Warisha Moradi was sentenced to death in such an important
month. The aim of this sentence is to punish all women fighting
gender-based violence. The death sentence handed down to Warish Moradi
is a message to all revolutionary women."
'Threats to women's struggle increase gender-based violence'
Violence against women increases, as the patriarchal system
exists, Jiyan Hisen said. "Violence against women increases and women
are deprived of their rights due to the patriarchal system. Especially
in recent years, women have been subjected to more brutal violence.
Leader Apo (Abdullah Ocalan) says, 'The 21st century will be the century
of women's freedom'. His words inspired women all around the world
during the revolution in Rojava. Now, women take to the streets all over
the world to demand their rights. As the struggle gets stronger,
gender-based violence and femicide increase. The threats to women's
struggle increase gender-based violence and femicide. We must strengthen
the struggle to end violence against women."
'Violence will continue unless the patriarchal mindset changes'
Social change is needed to ensure gender equality, Jiyan Hisen
emphasized. "Violence will continue unless the patriarchal mindset
changes. As Kongra Star, we have recently organized many activities,
workshops and seminars to educate men. During our last workshop in the
Jazira Canon, we discussed 'Family Law'. The participants discussed many
issues such as the Family Law, women's rights, how to build an equal and
free life and a democratic family."
'The fight against violence will continue'
Jiyan Hisen concluded her speech, saying: "As Kongra Star, we
will continue to fight against gender-based violence. We will fight
against violence not only in November but also all the days in the year.
We call on all women to unite and be solidarity with each other in order
to fight against violence." >>

Varisheh Moradi and Pakhshan Azizi 5
Hengaw Organisation for Human Right - 21 Nov 2024
<<Dozens of grieving families demand reversal of death sentences
for Varisheh Moradi and Pakhshan Azizi
Dozens of bereaved families have issued a statement condemning
the death sentences handed down by the Islamic Republic of Iran.
Highlighting the cases of Kurdish political activists Varisheh Moradi
and Pakhshan Azizi, the families have called for the annulment of their
death sentences and an end to capital punishment in Iran. In conjunction
with this statement, a petition has been launched, urging
justice-seekers, activists, and advocates for fairness to amplify the
voices of Verisha and Pakhshan. The petition demands urgent and concrete
actions to abolish death sentences in Iran. To date, over 2,000
political and civil activists, journalists, and bereaved families have
signed the petition, reflecting growing national and international
concern over the use of capital punishment in Iran.
The complete statement is provided below.
"Statement by Victim Families and Human Rights Activists on the
Death Sentence of Varishe Moradi, Pakhshan Azizi and the Wave of
Executions in Iran"
For months, the cry of "No to executions" has been echoing from
the women's ward of Evin Prison and 24 other prisons across Iran. In the
past two years, amid a surge in the number of executions and with over
250 people executed since the new administration took office, an average
of five people are executed daily in Iran.
We, a group of bereaved families and civil and human rights
activists in Iran, express our profound concern and sorrow over this
unprecedented increase in executions. This joint call to action is a
collective protest, urging the people of Iran, human rights
organizations, and international institutions to take immediate and
decisive steps.
To the People of Iran: By attending protests and amplifying your
voices, show the world that we demand an end to executions and a
commitment to human rights in Iran. Your solidarity and participation
are potent forces in this struggle.
To Human Rights Organizations: We call on domestic and
international human rights organizations, such as Amnesty International,
Human Rights Watch, and the UN Human Rights Council, to continuously
monitor the situation of prisoners in Iran and increase pressure on the
Islamic Republic to halt executions.
To World Governments and International Organizations: We urge
governments and international bodies to use all diplomatic and legal
tools to hold the Islamic Republic accountable and prevent
state-sanctioned murder by this regime. Following the execution of
Jamshid Sharmahd, a German-American citizen, the closure of three
Iranian consulates in Germany was a positive step toward responding to
these executions.
To Media and Journalists: We appeal to domestic and international
media and journalists to widely cover the alarming rise in executions
and human rights violations in Iran, raising awareness and mobilizing
public opinion on this crisis.
To the Iranian Diaspora: We urge all Iranians abroad to organize
rallies, protests, and meetings with government representatives and
parliament members to intensify pressure on the Islamic Republic.
To Save Varishe Moradi, Pakhshan Azizi, and all those sentenced
to death, we call for simultaneous protests in dozens of cities
worldwide. We hope that November 25th, the International Day for the
Elimination of Violence Against Women, will be a day when voices in
numerous cities across the globe rise together to cry out
PIC
"No to executions."
In conclusion, as a group of victims' families seeking justice
and activists, we oppose all forms of state repression and violence
against the people. We firmly believe that we can only achieve a fair
and peaceful society through justice, equality, and respect for human
rights.>>

World March of Women condemns death sentence of Varisheh Moradi
Medyanews - November 18, 2024
<<World March of Women condemns death sentence of Kurdish
activist in Iran
World March of Women MENA denounces Iran's death sentence against
Kurdish activist Warisheh Moradi (Werîşe Muradî), describing it as part
of the systematic oppression against women demanding freedom and justice.
The World March of Women's Middle East and North Africa (WMW MENA)
chapter has condemned Iran’s death sentence against Kurdish activist
Warisheh Moradi (Werişe Muradi), characterising it as part of a
systematic campaign to silence women activists demanding justice and
equality. In a statement released on 10 November, the organisation
emphasised that Moradi's case exemplifies the broader pattern of state
violence against women activists in Iran and Kurdistan. "In many
countries around the world, women suffer from organized violence
systematically implemented by authoritarian regimes striving to
consolidate power by silencing free voices and crushing the popular will,"
the statement said. Moradi, arrested for participating in the "Jin Jiyan
Azadi" (Woman, Life, Freedom) uprising in August 2023, has endured
severe psychological and physical torture during her detention. "[Warisheh]
Moradi is a brave feminist activist in the field of defending women's
rights, which Iran considers a threat to its oppressive Islamic regime,"
the organisation explained. The WMW MENA called for immediate action
from human rights organisations worldwide to pressure for the annulment
of death sentences against detained activists and an end to systematic
violence. "We will continue to fight for their right to live in freedom
and dignity and will not stop until justice prevails and oppression is
lifted from women," the statement affirmed. The organisation also
expressed concern about violence against women in conflict zones across
the MENA region, including Palestine, Yemen, Sudan, Lebanon, Libya and
Afghanistan. In these regions, "the lives of innocent women and children
are destroyed, paying a heavy price under oppression and ruin," the
statement concluded.>>

The Democratic Women's Alliance in the Middle East and North

rights organizations to take a stand against the death sentence handed
down to Warisha Moradi.
News Center- The Democratic Women's Alliance in the Middle East
and North Africa (NADA) has published a written statement, condemning
the death sentence handed down to activist Warisha Moradi. "Since the "Jin,
Jiyan, Azadi" uprising took place in Iran two years ago, the attitude of
the mullah regime of Iran against women has become even more brutal,"
said the statement. "Women are arrested, tortured and executed for
allegedly not covering their hair." Emphasizing that 831 people,
including Warisha Moradi, have been sentenced to death in Iran in 2024,
the statement said, "We call on all feminist and human rights
organizations in North Africa, the Middle East and all around the world
to support Warisha Moradi and to take a stand against the oppressive

Yazidi women call on women to take action against 'death penalty'
Jinha - Womens News Agency 15 Nov 2024 - by NUJIN EZIDI
<<Yazidi women call on women to take action against 'death penalty' in
Iran
Yazidi women call on women all around the world to take urgent action
against the <death penalty> in Iran, expressing their solidarity with
Warisha Moradi, an activist who has been sentenced to death in Iran.
Shengal (Sinjar)- On November 10, Warisha Moradi, a women's rights
defender and a member of the East Kurdistan Free Women Society (KJAR)
was sentenced to death by Branch 15 of the Tehran Islamic Revolutionary
Court on charges of <armed rebellion> against the Iranian regime. After
the announcement of the verdict, many women's organizations, human
rights defenders and international human rights organizations have
published statements, condemning the decision of the Iranian regime.
"The death penalty is inhumane punishment," said Yazidi women, calling
on Iran to dismiss the death sentence against Warisha Moradi.
'Women should support each other'
Deval Revo, member of the Peoples' Assembly in the town of Sinun,
strongly condemned the death sentences handed down to women fighting for
freedom by Iran. "Iran targets all women fighting for freedom and
violates women's rights. All around the world, women fight for their
rights and freedom. No one can prevent women's struggle for freedom. As
Yazidi women, we raise our voice for women’s freedom. Our voice is the
voice of all women fighting for freedom all over the world. I call on
all women to take action against the death sentence handed down to
Warisha Moradi and to demand her release." Vejin Argeş, member of the
Ezidxan Youth Union, called on all women to "protest the death sentences
handed down to women in Iran. Women should support each other because
they can be free by being in solidarity with each other. Women fighting
for freedom in Iran and all around the world are oppressed by their
families and the states. All women must raise their voices against the
death penalty in Iran."
'Yazidi women play a leading role in society and revolution'
"As women journalists, we condemn the Iranian regime for sentencing
women to death," said Berivan Çiya, a journalist in Shengal. "Women's
struggle for freedom is prevented not only in Iran but also all around
the world. The patriarchal states cannot prevent women from defending
their rights by sentencing them to death. In the past, Yazidi women
could not do anything for their own rights, but now they play a leading
role in society and revolution. Women are stronger now."
Warisha Moradi, a women's rights defender and a member of the East
Kurdistan Free Women Society (KJAR), was arrested by Iranian security
forces in Sanandaj on August 1, 2023. After being subjected to physical
and physiological torture for five months, she was transferred to Evin
prison.>>

Thousands Protest Death Sentence for Kurdish Activist Verisheh Moradi
Thousands of protesters gathered in the Syrian city of Qamishli on
Wednesday to denounce the death sentence handed down to Kurdish activist
Verisheh Moradi in Iran. Led by the Kongreya Star women's movement, the
protest drew large crowds chanting "Woman, Life, Freedom" and expressing
solidarity with imprisoned activists, including Moradi, Pakhshan Azizi,
and Sharifeh Mohammadi. Kongreya Star spokesperson Reyhan Logho
criticized the international community's silence on the death sentences
issued to women's rights activists in Iran. 'The Iranian regime cannot
break the will of free women. Women will shape Iran's future," Logho
said during the demonstration. Branch 15 of the Islamic Revolutionary
Court in Tehran sentenced Moradi to death on charges of <armed
rebellion.> The sentence has sparked widespread opposition, including
protests by women political prisoners in Tehran's Evin Prison. Another
activist, Pakhshan Azizi, has also been sentenced to death on similar
charges. The court cited Moradi's alleged affiliation with the Free Life
Party of Kurdistan (PJAK) as grounds for the sentence. Throughout the
proceedings, Moradi's legal team faced significant restrictions. Her
lawyers were denied access to her case file during the final hearing on
October 6 and in previous sessions.
Moradi herself was not permitted to present a defense in court. In
protest of her death sentence, Moradi began a 20-day hunger strike on
October 10, coinciding with the World Day Against the Death Penalty.>>

Resistance protests spread against Varisheh Moradi's death sentence
Medyanews - Nov. 13, 2024
<<Burgeoning resistance: protests spread against Warisheh Moradi's death
sentence
A surge of protests has ignited across Iran, Kurdistan and the Kurdish
diaspora following the death sentence issued by Judge Salvati in Branch
15 of Tehran's Revolutionary Court against Warishah Moradi, a Kurdish
political prisoner held in Tehran's Evin Prison. Protests have erupted
inside Iran, within and without the walls of Evin Prison, and across the
global Kurdish diaspora following the death sentence handed down to
political prisoner and prominent rights activist Warisheh Moradi by
<Hanging Judge> Salvati at Branch 15 of Tehran's Revolutionary Court. A
group of women political prisoners organised a courtyard protest in
Tehran's Evin prison, where Moradi has been detained since her arrest in
October 2023, human rights sources reported on 11 November. During the
protest, they voiced solidarity with both Moradi and Pakhshan Azizi,
another Kurdish woman and prominent political prisoner facing execution.
In a recorded audio of the sit-in, the prisoners are heard chanting
"Jin, Jiyan, Azadi" (Woman, Life, Freedom) in defiance of the
authoritarian regime. Thousands of women took to the streets of Qamişlo
(Qamishli) in Kurdish-led northern Syria to protest against the death
sentence passed against Warisheh Moradi. The women who took part in the
march condemned the Iranian regime as a "graveyard" for women stating,
"The Iranian regime cannot break the will or destroy their cause of free
women." Meanwhile, Kurdish organisations have publicly condemned
Moradi's death sentence, praising Moradi as a symbol of resistance,
demanding an end to all executions in Iran, and calling for the
immediate release of Moradi and Azizi. The Kurdistan Free Life Party (PJAK)
has condemned the verdict against Moradi as both "anti-women" and
"anti-human". The PJAK called on international human rights
organisations and advocates to take an uncompromising stand against the
death penalty laws enforced by the Iranian regime. The Komala Women's
Committee, part of the Kurdistan Organisation of the Communist Party of
Iran, echoed similar sentiments, urging human rights institutions and
political movements within and outside Iran to mobilise in protest
against Moradi's death sentence. "The [Islamic Republic's] goal of
issuing such orders is to create fear in the society," the committee
said. The Free Women's Society of Kurdistan (KJAR) and the Women’s
Society of Kurdistan (KJK) have also issued statements supporting Moradi.
They called for an immediate response from Kurdish communities and
international actors to stop the executions. The Women's Committee of
the National Council of Resistance of Iran, affiliated with the People's
Mojahedin Organisation of Iran (Mojahedi-e Khalgh-e Iran), similarly
condemned the death sentence, calling for an urgent international
response to demand Moradi's immediate release.
A rally was also held outside the Iranian embassy in Brussels on 11
November, to denounce the death sentences of Moradi and Azizi. This
demonstration was organised by the KJAR and PJAK committees, drawing
significant attention to the ongoing repression faced by Kurdish
activists.
Simultaneously, Afghan women activists have issued statements expressing
deep solidarity with Kurdish-Iranian women and condemning Iran's use of
the death penalty against female political prisoners. Both Moradi and
Azizi face inhumane death sentences on charges of sedition. The
prosecutor's report issued after Moradi's sham trial cited Article 288
which mandates imprisonment, but Judge Salavati altered the charge under
Article 287, thereby issuing a death sentence. Both these activists, in
defiance of the severe torture they have endured behind bars, have
managed to get letters out from prison highlighting the crucial role of
women in resisting authoritarian regimes in Iran and the broader Middle
East. Moradi and Azizi have become enduring symbols of women's
resilience and the ongoing fight for transformative change in Iran.>>

Afghan women express their solidarity
Jinha - Womens News Agency - Nov. 13, 2024 - BAHARIN LEHIB
<<Afghan women express their solidarity with Warisha Moradi
Afghan women call on the Iranian authorities to dismiss the death
sentences for Warisha Moradi and Pakhshan Azizi, saying, "Condemning the
death sentences is insufficient. A joint struggle is a must."
Kabul- The Iranian government keeps using the death penalty against
women demanding freedom. On November 10, Warisha Moradi, a women's
rights defender and member of the East Kurdistan Free Women Society (KJAR)
who was arrested by Iranian security forces on August 1, 2023, was
sentenced to death by Branch 15 of the Tehran Islamic Revolutionary
Court on charges of <armed rebellion> against the Iranian regime.
Expressing their solidarity with the women in Iran and Eastern
Kurdistan, Afghan women say "a joint struggle against the oppression of
religious ideologies is a must."
'We suffer from the same oppression'
"The Iranian regime has sentenced Warisha Moradi and Pakhshan Azizi for
defending women's rights," said Mina Askari, a children's rights
activist in Afghanistan. "The aim is to silence the voices of those
fighting for freedom. Women in Afghanistan and Iran suffer from the same
oppression. We express our solidarity with Warisha Moradi, Pakhshan
Azizi and all women political prisoners in Iran. We demand immediate
release of all political prisoners. In Iran, women are targeted because
they play an important role in uprisings," said Yalda Ahmed, an Afghan
psychologist and women's rights activist. "The resistance and courage of
Iranian women has become a role model for women fighting for freedom all
around the world." >>
