Iranwire - Nov 11, 2024
<<Women Prisoners in Evin Protest Death Sentence for Activist Varisheh
Moradi
A group of female political prisoners held in Evin Prison gathered in
the women’s ward courtyard to protest the death sentence handed down to
activist Varisheh Moradi. During the gathering, the incarcerated women
chanted slogans demanding the cancellation of death sentences for Moradi,
Pakhshan Azizi, and other prisoners on death row. Slogans included "Varisheh
Moradi must be freed" and "Woman, Life, Freedom." Branch 15 of the
Islamic Revolutionary Court in Tehran sentenced Moradi to death on
charges of <armed rebellion.> The court cited Moradi's alleged
affiliation with the Free Life Party of Kurdistan (PJAK) as grounds for
the sentence. Throughout the proceedings, Moradi's legal team faced
extensive restrictions. Her lawyers were denied access to her case file
during the final hearing on October 6 and in previous sessions. Moradi
herself was not allowed to present a defense in court. In protest of the
death sentence, Moradi initiated a 20-day hunger strike beginning
October 10, coinciding with the World Day Against the Death Penalty.>>

Molavi Abdulqahar Mirbaluchzehi
Iranwire - Nov 12, 2024
<<Public Outrage in Iran's Sistan and Baluchistan Over Cleric's Arrest
Protests have escalated in the Mirjaveh district of Sistan and
Baluchistan province following the arrest of the city's Sunni Friday
prayer leader. The replacement of Molavi Abdulqahar Mirbaluchzehi with a
government-appointed imam has further intensified public outrage. Video
footage released on Friday by Haalvsh, a human rights news agency that
monitors rights violations in Iran's Sistan and Baluchistan region,
showed residents protesting Mirbaluchzehi's detention. According to
Haalvsh, the protesters forcibly removed Anwar Rigi, the state-appointed
imam, from the mosque.
Mirbaluchzehi was detained on November 7 after being summoned to the
Zahedan General Court. Sources say his arrest followed his refusal to
comply with authorities' orders to step down from his role as Friday
prayer leader. This is not the first instance of pressure against
Mirbaluchzehi. In September 2023, IRGC intelligence officers questioned
him after he met with Molavi Abdulhamid, the prominent Sunni Friday
prayer leader of Zahedan.
The cleric's current whereabouts and condition remain unknown.
Zahedan, the capital of Sistan and Baluchistan, is home to Iran's Sunni
Baluch minority, which numbers up to 2 million people. The city has been
a hotspot for protests, with rallies occurring nearly every Friday since
September 30, 2022, when security forces killed nearly 100 people in one
of the deadliest incidents of the nationwide protests.>>

And other actual news:
Roshanak Molaei
Iranwire - Nov 12, 2024 - by Samira Rahi
<<Exclusive: Iranian Woman Detained After Confronting Soldier Who
Harassed Her
Intelligence forces of the Islamic Republic have arrested a woman after
she confronted a soldier who had assaulted her, IranWire has learned.
Concerns are mounting over the whereabouts of the woman, who has been
unreachable since November 3, following her brief detention. The woman,
identified by IranWire as Roshanak Molaei, posted a video on X with the
caption, "A scene from being a woman in Iran," showing her response to a
man who harassed her. In the video posted on her X account on the
evening of October 31, a man on a motorcycle, wearing a military service
uniform, approaches and harasses her as she walks along the pavement.
She confronted him and ultimately forced him to flee. A few hours after
posting the video, her account was suspended. After releasing the video,
Molaei received a threat from an anonymous caller. On the morning of
November 1, security and intelligence forces raided her home in Tehran.
They arrested Molaei and interrogated her for several hours. IranWire
sources said that she was released the same day after hours of
interrogation, which involved extensive insults and humiliation.
Concerns about her well-being and the possibility of her re-arrest have
grown, especially since her phone has been unreachable and she has not
responded to messages from friends and family since November 3. Molaei,
a civil activist from Tabriz, had previously been detained during the
Woman, Life, Freedom movement and sentenced to five years in prison. She
was released following a "general amnesty and sentence reduction" decree
by the judiciary, which many human rights activists saw as a publicity
measure to improve the image of Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei. According
to information on the website Atlas of Iranian Prisons, she was arrested
in November 2022 for participating in street protests and was detained
in Evin and Qarchak Varamin prisons. IranWire previously reported that
Molaei had moved to Tehran shortly before the nationwide protests of
2022 and was arrested on November 29, 2022, during a protest. She was
initially taken to Qarchak Prison and then transferred to Evin. During
her transfer for interrogation, she clashed with prison guards over
their sexually abusive and misogynistic language. The guards beat her,
forced her into the vehicle with torn clothes and handcuffs, lying on
the floor, before taking her to court. Another source confirmed that
during her first arrest in the 2022 protests, she was severely beaten,
resulting in a broken tooth. She also endured extended solitary
confinement in Evin Prison. In February 2023, Molaei, along with a group
of female political prisoners in Evin, signed an open letter calling for
an end to protester executions and unjust sentences for prisoners.
No information is available on Roshanak Molaei's current condition, and
concerns continue to grow. The only response from state-affiliated media
regarding the video’s release was to mention the location of the
incident on Africa Street in Tehran and to indicate that she would be
referred to judicial authorities for what they called <failure to comply
with the hijab law,> without disclosing her identity. Despite the
Islamic Republic's policies that criminalize non-compliance with the
mandatory hijab and the increasingly harsh treatment of women by
official and unofficial forces, many women continue to resist through
acts of civil disobedience. Since April 13, Iran's law enforcement
agencies have intensified the enforcement of hijab regulations under the
national action plan <Noor.> Across Iran, there have been numerous
reports of women being arrested and subjected to the use of force due to
perceived violations of dress codes. Users across social networks are
participating in a spontaneous campaign using the hashtag "war against
women" to document their experiences and observations regarding the
government's crackdown on opponents of the mandatory hijab.>>

<<Cardiologist Killed in Iran Over Alleged Medical Negligence
A cardiologist was fatally attacked outside his home on Monday night in
what authorities are calling a revenge killing linked to delayed medical
care.
Masoud Davoodi was killed around 11 p.m. near his residence in the Raja
district of Yasuj, according to Vahid Mousavian, prosecutor for
Kohgiluyeh and Boyer-Ahmad province. "Measures and instructions to
identify and arrest the suspect were initiated by the special
investigator the same night," Mousavian told the reporters on Tuesday.
The suspect, who fled the scene after the attack, posted an image of the
bloody knife on Instagram, threatening other doctors over delays in
patient care. The suspect claimed that his actions were driven by
Davoodi's alleged negligence in treatment, which led to the death of a
patient.>>

<<Outrage at Iranian University After Student Dies from Delayed
Treatment
Students at a university in Tehran protested on Tuesday following the
death of a first-year chemistry student, who died after being denied
timely medical care due to locked dormitory gates. Amirmehdi Chegini
suffered fatal injuries after falling from the fourth floor of the
Danesh 1 dormitory at Khajeh Nasir University. According to student
reports, emergency responders faced a 30-minute delay in reaching
Chegini due to locked courtyard doors and inaction by dormitory security
personnel.
He was pronounced dead at 4 a.m.
Demonstrators gathered outside the university president's office,
calling for accountability from the campus security chief, the
university president, and the Minister of Science. Students have also
initiated sit-ins across various faculties and are boycotting classes.
The protesters cite systemic failures in dormitory management and
emergency response protocols as contributing factors to Chegini's death.
They are demanding significant reforms to prevent similar incidents.>>

<<Iranian Lawyer Shoots Wife and Son Before Taking Own Life
A lawyer in Tehran reportedly shot and killed his wife and 12-year-old
son before turning the gun on himself. The shooting took place on
Tuesday in the Velenjak neighborhood of the capital, ISNA news agency
reported. The 42-year-old man used a handgun to murder his 40-year-old
wife and their young son. Their 14-year-old daughter managed to escape
and sought refuge with neighbors during the incident. Homicide
investigators, detectives from the 10th Department, and forensic teams
arrived at the scene to gather details, but authorities have not yet
released a motive for the killings.
The killing follows another recent case involving a lawyer in Tehran. On
Sunday, the head of Tehran's Criminal Prosecutor's Office announced that

<<Iran to Execute Man Convicted of Assaulting Over 200 Women
The head of the judiciary in Hamadan has announced that a man will be
executed on Tuesday for sexually assaulting over 200 women in Iran.
According to the announcement, Ali Salamat "abused and assaulted over
200 women and girls and committed crimes including rape." The Rokna news
website reports that in recent years, Salamat lured his victims under
the guise of marriage, friendship, assistance with medications, and, in
some cases, through force. A legal case was opened against him in May
after many plaintiffs provided evidence of his widespread assault and
abuse.
Salamat was arrested in January, and the investigation progressed
afterward. The initial court sentenced him to death, and despite
multiple appeals by him and his lawyers, the Supreme Court's 39th Branch
upheld the sentence in October. The head of the judiciary in Hamadan
stated that Salamat will be hanged at 6 AM on Tuesday, with the
execution taking place at Bagh-e Behesht in Hamadan. A source told
IranWire that at least three of Salamat's victims had committed suicide
over the years.>>

Arrest Four Baha’i Citizens
Iranwire - Nov 11, 2024
<<Iranian Authorities Arrest Four Baha'i Citizens in Shiraz
The Islamic Republic's authorities have arrested four Baha’i citizens in
Shiraz and taken them to an undisclosed location. According to IranWire
sources, Intelligence Department agents raided the homes of several
Baha'i citizens in the city, detaining Vahid Masoumi, Vahid Sabet, Elham
Haghighatjo, and Rozita Eslami. While the specific charges against the
detainees remain undisclosed, they are believed to have been transferred
to Shiraz's Intelligence Detention Center. For decades, Baha'is have
faced systematic discrimination in Iran, as the Islamic Republic does
not recognize their faith. The government frequently accuses Baha'is of
being spies or opposing the regime, though the Baha'i International
Community asserts that no evidence has been provided to support these
allegations. Over the past two years, the Iranian government has
intensified its crackdown on members of the Baha'i faith, imprisoning
dozens of them on spurious charges, denying them access to higher
education and livelihoods, and confiscating or destroying their
properties.>>

Taraneh Alidoosti

<<Taraneh Alidoosti Defies Iran's Hijab Laws Again, Sparking Social
Media Support
Prominent Iranian actress Taraneh Alidoosti has once again defied Iran's
mandatory hijab laws, sparking widespread support on social media. A new
photograph of the actress, appearing without a headscarf, has circulated
online. Alidoosti, celebrated for her roles in acclaimed films, has a
history of publicly opposing compulsory hijab laws. She previously made
headlines during the 2022 Woman, Life, Freedom protests by appearing at
official events without a hijab. On November 8, 2022, Alidoosti posted
an Instagram photo without her hijab, holding a sign that read "Woman,
Life, Freedom" in solidarity with Iranian women protesters. Her bold
stance led to her arrest on December 16, 2022, when security forces
raided her home and took her to Tehran's Evin Prison. Social media users
have praised the circulation of her latest photograph, commending her
ongoing defiance of hijab laws and support for women's rights in Iran.
Jina Amini
The death of 22-year-old Kurdish woman Mahsa Amini while in the custody
of Tehran's morality police sparked a women-led protest movement that
has shaken Iran for over three months. The demonstrations rapidly
escalated, with protestors calling for an end to over 40 years of
clerical rule.
Security forces responded to the demonstrations with brutal force,
resulting in the deaths of over 500 people and the detention of more
than 18,000, according to human rights activists. A growing number of
Iranian celebrities have voiced support for the protests, criticizing
the authorities' harsh crackdown on dissent. Many have faced
imprisonment, with Islamic Republic officials accusing them of <fanning

series of similar incidents at Iranian universities. Students at a
dormitory in Shahid Rajaee Teacher Training University began
experiencing symptoms around 4 a.m. on Saturday after consuming a dinner
of canned tuna and mashed potatoes. The incident follows a pattern of
food safety concerns at other Iranian higher education institutions.
Last week, more than 10 students at Hamedan University of Technology
required hospitalization for food poisoning, leading to student
protests, including a hunger strike over meal quality. Al-Zahra
University in Tehran has also faced recent complaints about substandard

Mohsen Omrani was detained after appearing at the First Branch of the
Criminal Enforcement Office at the Bushehr Prosecutor's Office and was
transferred to Bushehr's central prison on Sunday. He was sentenced to
six months in prison on the charge of <propaganda against the Islamic

according to reports from the Hengaw Organization for Human Rights. The
case represents the latest legal action against Omrani, who faces
separate charges from September 2023. In that case, the Bushehr Islamic
Revolutionary Court imposed a two-year prison sentence and banned him

Political Prisoners Begin Hunger Strike
Iranwire - Nov 11, 2024
<<Three Iranian Political Prisoners Begin Hunger Strike as Executions
Loom
Three political prisoners facing execution in Iran's Sepidar Prison have
begun a hunger strike to protest their detention conditions, as their
health reportedly deteriorates in solitary confinement. The Karun Human
Rights Organization reported that Ali Mojadam, Moein Khenfari, and
Mohammadreza Moghadam, held in the Ahvaz facility, are in severely
declining health. Their families have been denied visiting rights,
escalating concerns about their well-being. The development comes as
prison authorities issued warnings to two other political prisoners. The
head of Sheiban Prison in Ahvaz informed Habib Daris and Salem
Alboushokeh that their death sentences had been confirmed. Khosrow
Tarafi, who oversees Ahvaz Central Prison, told the two men that four of
their co-defendants had already been transferred to Sepidar Prison for
execution, adding that they would face the same fate.
The six people were arrested in 2018 and 2019.
The Ahvaz Revolutionary Court sentenced them to death for allegedly
participating in the killings of two Basij members, a police officer,
and a soldier. According to information provided to IranWire, they
endured severe torture during detention. Sources report that Islamic
Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) officers detained the wives and
children of both Ali Mojadam and Habib Daris to coerce confessions. In
one instance, Mojadam was reportedly tortured in front of his family
members to extract a self-incriminating statement.>>

11-Year-Old Girl
Iranwire - Nov 11, 2024
<<11-Year-Old Girl Dies After Severe Abuse by Foster Parents in Iran
An 11-year-old girl placed in foster care has died following what
authorities describe as severe physical abuse by her foster parents in
northeastern Iran. Mahsa Golestani was just six months into a trial
placement period with her foster family when she suffered fatal
injuries, according to Shargh newspaper. Her brother was also placed
with the same family during this period. The Kashmar public prosecutor
has confirmed the arrests of both foster parents in connection with the
death. Preliminary investigations suggest the cause of death was due to
severe beatings and neglect of basic care, although official forensic
results are still pending.
The case has sparked scrutiny of Iran's foster care system.
The National Welfare Organization defended its vetting process, saying
the foster parents had completed all required steps, including
psychological and medical evaluations. However, the organization
acknowledged the need to review its oversight procedures and promised
accountability if negligence "is discovered." A provincial welfare
employee revealed that both Mahsa and her brother endured repeated
physical abuse during their brief time with the foster family.>>

No to excecutions Tuesdays
NCRI - November 12, 2024
<<Prisoners Join Forces in the 42nd Week of the "No to Executions
Tuesdays" Campaign
A Call for Action Against Death Sentences in Iran
The No to Executions Tuesdays Campaign has gained significant momentum
over the past months, as Iranian prisoners continue to resist the
oppressive regime through coordinated actions, including hunger strikes
and protests against the death penalty. The campaign, which began as a
grassroots initiative, has now spread to 25 prisons across Iran. On the
42nd week of the campaign, prisoners from various facilities, including
the notorious Dastgerd Prison in Isfahan, have joined the protest,
marking their participation with a collective hunger strike. These
courageous acts highlight the growing opposition to the regime's brutal
use of executions, particularly against women, religious and ethnic
minorities, and those expressing dissent. Following are excerpts from
the statement of striking prisoners on the 42nd week of the No to
Executions Tuesdays:
Dastgerd Prison joins the campaign of the "No to Executions Tuesdays" in
the 42nd Week
The campaign has expanded to 25 prisons across the country.
Hostage-taking of Women, Religious and Ethnic Minorities through Death
Sentences
As we approach the fifth anniversary of the bloody November 2019
uprising, we honor the memory of over 1,500 men, women, youth, and
children who lost their lives in the protests. We send our solidarity to
the families of the victims who continue to fight for justice despite
the oppressive regime's brutal crackdown. The shadow of execution looms
heavily over prisoners in the dark dungeons of the fascist Velayat-e
Faqih regime. The machinery of executions continues to operate
relentlessly. Over the last three weeks, more than 103 individuals,
including two women, have been executed. This averages to about five
executions per day. Since Pezeshkian took office, over 450 people have
been executed, marking this as the sole grim achievement of the new
government. As we have witnessed in recent months, the corrupt judiciary
has set new records for repression through its issuing and carrying out
of death sentences. Despite the regime's reckless actions in issuing and
executing death sentences, prisoners remain steadfast in their
resistance and solidarity. In the 41st week of the "No to Executions
Tuesdays" campaign, a group of prisoners from Dastgerd Prison in Isfahan
began a hunger strike by returning their lunch as a protest, joining the
broader campaign. This campaign condemns the issuing of death sentences
for our fellow women, such as Varisha Moradi and Pakhshan Azizi, as well
as for the many Kurds, Baluchs, Arabs, and other protesters, which is
nothing less than a form of hostage-taking. These executions are a
response to the growing wave of protests from the oppressed segments of
society, and we strongly denounce the "hostage-taking through death
sentences" and call for collective resistance to this inhumane process.
The "No to Executions Tuesdays" campaign, which has repeatedly warned of
the imminent execution of condemned prisoners, once again urges all
awake consciences and activists-political, civil, and human rights
defenders-to act urgently to save the lives of those condemned to death
and to stop and abolish executions in Iran. Only through active
engagement, solidarity, and unified action can the killing machine of
the Republic of Executions (i.e., the clerical regime in Iran) be

Rashad Mohammadi and Azhin Hosseini (Fahmideh)
Hengaw Organisation for Human Right - November 11, 2024
<<Concerning situation of Kurdish refugee couple in Turkey: Restricted
visits and risk of deportation
Rashad Mohammadi and Azhin Hosseini (Fahmideh), a Kurdish political
refugee couple, have been arrested by Turkish security forces for nearly
eight months and are now held in distressing conditions in a temporary
housing camp, facing the risk of deportation to Iran. According to a
report received by the Hengaw Organization for Human Rights, Rashad
Mohammadi, from Kamyaran, and his wife, Azhin Hosseini from Sarvabad,
both political activists, are currently being held at the Pahlavan Koy
camp in Edirne, Turkey, under challenging conditions. Hosseini reports
that, since their recent transfer back to this camp a month ago, she has
only been allowed to meet with her husband once, as he is being held
alone in a separate room.
Earlier this year, Hengaw reported that Turkish authorities, shortly
after transferring the couple to a deportation camp, forced them to
provide fingerprints and signatures, raising concerns over their
potential deportation. The couple, aged 30 and 34, were previously
political activists residing in the Kurdistan Region of Iraq but were
compelled to leave due to pressure from security agencies of Islamic
Republic of Iran. They were initially arrested by Turkish police in
early March and, after several relocations, remain in the camp under
precarious circumstances. The Hengaw Organization for Human Rights has
expressed grave concern about the couple's potential deportation to
Iran, where they could face torture or other inhumane treatment from
security forces. Hengaw calls on international human rights
organizations, especially those focused on refugee protection, to
urgently intervene in their case.>>

<<Roshanak Molaei Alishah, opponent of mandatory Hijab, arrested by
security forces
Roshanak Molaei Alishah, a Turkish woman from Tabriz residing in Tehran,
and a known opponent of mandatory hijab was recently detained again by
security forces, and her fate remains unknown. She was previously
arrested and imprisoned during the "Woman, Life, Freedom" movement
According to a report received by the Hengaw Organization for Human
Rights, 25-year-old Roshanak Molaei Alishah has come under scrutiny by
security forces due to social media posts where she appears without the
mandatory hijab. In one video, Roshanak is shown arguing with a
government official over the issue of optional hijab, later sharing CCTV
footage of the confrontation online. Following the release of this
content, her account on X was swiftly deactivated. Informed sources
report that on Saturday, November 2, Roshanak Molaei Alishah was
summoned and interrogated by the cyber police regarding her social media
posts. She was subsequently arrested on Sunday, November 3. As of now,
no information regarding her whereabouts or condition has been
disclosed, and her family’s attempts to inquire about her case have been
unsuccessful. Roshanak Molaei Alishah was previously arrested during the
"Woman, Life, Freedom" movement in Tehran on September 27, 2022,
following a violent encounter. Initially held in Evin Prison, she was
subsequently transferred to Qarchak Varamin Prison. In December of that
year, the Tehran Revolutionary Court sentenced her to six years and six
months on charges of <assembly and collusion.> After nearly five months
in detention, she was granted amnesty and released from Qarchak Varamin
Prison on February 15, 2023. Over the past two years, Roshanak Molaei
Alishah has been summoned and interrogated multiple times by security
