Marziyeh Gholampour
Hengaw Organisation for Human Right - 9 July 2024
<<Murder of a Young Woman in Bojnourd with <Honor-related> Motive
A young woman named Marziyeh Gholampour, a resident of Bojnourd in South
Khorasan province, was murdered by her husband in front of her young
child. The motive reported was <honor.> According to a report received
by the Hengaw Organization for Human Rights, on Saturday, July 6, 2024,
Marziyeh Gholampour, 29, a resident of Bojnourd, was killed by gunfire
by her husband. According to an informed source, this woman was murdered
shortly after requesting a divorce, in front of her parents' house and
in front of her young child. The general criminal punitive policy of the
Islamic Republic regarding domestic violence and femicide supports the
patriarchal order. This policy, with the lack of criminalization of
domestic violence, the disproportion between crime and punishment in
this area, and the lack of social support for women against violence,
has led to the prevalence and normalization of crimes against women.>>

<<Femicide: Report on Brutal Murder of a Woman by a Relative in Talesh
A woman identified as Rozita Arghideh was killed by one of her relatives
in Talesh, a district in the Gilan Province. The motive for the crime
has been reported in state media as <family disputes.> According to a
report received by Hengaw Organization for Human Rights, on the morning
of Tuesday, June 11, 2024, a 40-year-old woman named Rozita Arghideh was
murdered in Talesh by her 23-year-old cousin, Bahram Arghideh, using a
sharp weapon. Sources indicate that the killer acted to murder his
cousin after his marriage proposal to the victim's 15-year-old daughter
was rejected by Rozita Arghideh. He then killed her by stabbing and
slitting her throat. Additionally, a few hours after committing the
crime, the killer took his own life by ingesting pills and hanging
himself. State media have also reported the killer's motive for this
murder as the vague term <family disputes,> similar to many other cases
of femicide.>>

Sharifeh Mohammadi
Jinha - Womens News Agency 10 July 2024
<<'We stand with all those threatened by the death sentence'
16 female political prisoners in Evin prison sent a letter protesting
the death sentence given to labor activist Sharifeh Mohammadi.
News Center- 16 female political prisoners in Evin prison sent a letter
on Tuesday, protesting the death sentence given to labor activist
Sharifeh Mohammadi and demanding the abolition of the death penalty. <Sharifeh
Mohammadi, a labor activist, after seven months of temporary detention,
enduring torture and interrogation in various cities' detention centers,
has been sentenced to death in a baseless and threadbare scenario,> the
letter said. This is not only the death sentence of Sharifeh but also
the death sentence of all <us>, labor, political, civil, human rights,
and women's rights activists, the political prisoners stressed in the
letter.
'We stand with all those threatened by the death sentence'
In the statement, the political prisoners said that they saw the death
sentence as a potential danger and a prelude to issuing heavier
sentences in the future. <What is most apparent in this death sentence
is a policy of repression intended to stifle the voice of protest and
demands that had reached a significant level with the revolutionary
uprising of 2022, and to intimidate and force back women who have
stepped forward with a louder voice than before in the realm of 'rights'
advocacy. We, a group of women prisoners in Evin Prison, have heard the
voice of the 'Campaign to Defend Sharifeh Mohammadi,' which has called
on all awakened consciences to take action for Sharifeh's freedom. We
stand with Sharifeh and all those threatened by the death sentence and
demand an end to executions.>

Rana Kourkouri
NCRI - Womens committee - 10 July 2024 - in Women's News
<<Rana Kourkouri Arrested by Security Forces in Tehran
On Thursday, July 4, 1403, Rana Kourkouri, the sister of Abbas (Mojahed)
Kourkouri, a detainee sentenced to death from the nationwide protests,
was arrested by security forces at her residence in Tehran. She is
currently detained at the Pakdasht Intelligence Detention Center.
Charges Against Rana Kourkouri
Negar Kourkouri, the sister of the detainees, wrote about the charges
against Rana: <Last year, due to my sister's activities on social media,
a case was fabricated against her with the accusation of inciting and
seducing people to violence and murder. During this period, my sister
lived in hiding, but after posting a few comments about the elections,
she was found and is currently in the custody of the Pakdasht IRGC
Intelligence.>
The Kourkouri Family's Situation
Rana Kourkouri is married and the mother of two young children. The
Kourkouri family is under severe pressure. Abbas (Mojahed) Kourkouri,
who is imprisoned in Sheiban Prison in Ahvaz, was arrested during the
nationwide protests of 2022, and his death sentence has been upheld by
the Supreme Court.
Attempt to Blame Mojahed Kourkouri

Kian Pirfalak
Regime officials fabricated scenarios to blame the killing of people by
the State Security forces in Izeh, including the murder of Kian Pirfalak,
on Mojahed Kourkouri and other young people in the city. Kian Pirfalak's
father stated: <I have no complaints against Mojahed Kourkouri and the
people of Izeh, and I never will, because my wife and I saw with our own
eyes that the security forces, under the command of Eidi Alipour, shot
at our car, injured me, and killed my son.> On December 20, 2022, armed
agents with military equipment attacked Mojahed Kourkouri's home in the
village of Parsila, Izeh, wounding and arresting him.
Condition of Political Prisoner Mojahid Kourkouri, Physical and
Psychological Torture
Mojahed Kourkouri has been held in solitary confinement in Sheiban
Prison, Ahvaz, for over a year. He has been deprived of the right to
make phone calls to his family and lawyer. During a visit with his
family, he revealed physical and psychological torture aimed at
extracting forced confessions.
According to him, the agents repeatedly subjected him to mock executions
and forced him to take pills that caused disorientation and speech
problems.>>

<<Mother of Slain Protester Reports Destruction of Son's Tombstone in
Iran
Leyli Mahdavi, the mother of Siavash Mahmoudi, a young man killed during
the 2022 protests in Iran, has reported that her son's tombstone has
been destroyed by unknown individuals. Mahdavi took to Instagram Live to
share the news and express her anguish. <Where is the justice when they
don't even show mercy to your tombstone?> she asked. Siavash Mahmoudi
lost his life on September 21, 2022, in Tehran. The vandalism of
Mahmoudi's grave is not an isolated incident. Similar acts have been
reported in various parts of Iran, targeting the final resting places of
those who died during the protests. He was killed by security forces
during the widespread uprising and popular protests that swept across
Iran that year. The death of 22-year-old Amini unleashed months of mass
protests across Iran and marked the biggest challenge to the country's
clerical leaders since the 1979 Islamic Revolution. More than 500 people
were killed as the Islamic Republic fought back against the protesters,
who gained support from around the world. In March, a fact-finding
mission mandated by the United Nations said the death of Amini in the
custody of Iran's morality police was <unlawful,> and women in the
country remain subject to wide-ranging discrimination.>>

<<Ex-Political Prisoner Soleimani Reports Death Threats from Iran Agents
Ashkan Soleimani, a former political prisoner, has reported receiving
death threats from individuals he claims are agents of the Islamic
Republic.
Soleimani took to Instagram to share his concerns, posting screenshots
of threatening messages allegedly sent by an Iran-affiliated person in
Germany. He reported that three individuals, whom he identified as
agents of the Islamic Republic, attacked his grandmother's home. These
assailants allegedly threatened his grandmother, demanding she turn her
grandson over to intelligence agencies. The incident reportedly caused
his grandmother significant distress, leading to a loss of
consciousness. Soleimani's history with Iranian authorities dates back
to the nationwide protests of 2022. He was arrested in Rasht by security
forces on charges of involvement in setting fire to an ambulance during
the protests.
Initially facing the serious charge of <waging war against God,>
Soleimani was eventually acquitted. He was released from Lakan prison in
Rasht last year on bail.>>

<<Norwegian-Iranian Citizen Arrested by Iranian Security Forces
A Kurdish man from Sardasht named Hadi Zaheri (Shalmashi), holding dual
Iranian-Norwegian citizenship, was arrested by the Islamic Republic of
Iran’s security forces last week. He is an athlete and a bodybuilding
coach in Norway. According to a report received by the Hengaw
Organization for Human Rights, on Tuesday, July 2, 2024, Hadi Zaheri, a
dual citizen from Sardasht residing in Norway, was arrested by security
forces in this city and transferred to an unknown location. Hengaw has
learned that Hadi Zaheri was summoned to the Sardasht Intelligence
Office on the said day and interrogated for several hours. He was
arrested later that evening following a raid by intelligence forces on
his family's home. According to a source close to Hadi Zaheri's family,
intelligence forces simultaneously seized the passports of Mr. Hadi
Zaheri, his wife, and their two children. After 17 years of residence in
Norway, Zaheri entered Tehran by air last month to visit his family and
relatives and then traveled to his hometown. Hadi Zaheri is a
professional athlete and coach in bodybuilding and has won awards in
various international competitions. At the time of this report, there is
no precise information available regarding the reasons for his arrest
and the charges against him.
Hengaw's Warning
The Hengaw Organization for Human Rights warns all dual citizens that
traveling to Iran can have serious consequences. Since the beginning of
the 'Woman, Life, Freedom' revolution, arrests and heavy sentences for
dual citizens have significantly increased. The Iranian government does
not recognize dual citizenship and may consider these individuals solely
as Iranian citizens. This can lead to arrests, document seizures, and
legal restrictions for them. In many cases, dual citizens face baseless
and unfounded charges that can result in prolonged detention and unfair
trials. Hengaw urges dual citizens to be aware of the potential risks
and carefully examine the current legal and political situation before
deciding to travel to Iran.>>

<<Political Prisoner Azar Korvandi: Evin Prison Authorities Deny Her
Medical Treatment
Tehran, Iran - Azar Korvandi, a political prisoner held in Evin Prison,
is suffering from heart disease and urgently needs specialized medical
care.
Despite her deteriorating physical condition, the approximately
60-year-old prisoner has been denied hospital transfer and proper
medical attention by the Evin Prison authorities. Azar Korvandi (Musazadeh),
a political prisoner since the 1980s, has two blocked heart arteries
requiring immediate medical intervention. However, her requests for
hospital transfer have been ignored by prison officials. Azar Korvandi
was arrested in the summer of 2019 on charges of collaborating with the
People’s Mojahedin Organization of Iran (PMOI/MEK) and promoting
anti-regime propaganda after holding family counseling sessions in her
private garden in Shahriar. She was released on bail then but later
convicted in December 2021 by the Tehran Revolutionary Court. Mrs.
Korvandi received a five-year prison sentence for <assembly and
collusion to act against national security> and an additional one-year
sentence for <propaganda against the state.> As supplementary
punishment, she was banned from leaving the country for two years and
prohibited from membership and activity in social, political, and
cultural groups for two years. After the verdict was upheld by the
Tehran Appeals Court and under Article 134 of the regime’s Penal Code,
Azar Korvandi's five-year prison sentence became enforceable. On July
30, 2023, she was summoned to the First Branch of the Enforcement Office
of the Tehran District 33 Prosecutor's Office, arrested, and transferred
