<<'The ruling party uses schools for its goals'
"Turkiye has been experiencing its most oppressive period in history,"
said Emine Akyazılı, member of the DEM Party Education Commission,
stressing that the monist policies of the 'one-man regime' continue in
the education system.
News Center- The Turkish education system has recently faced many
problems. In addition to the deep poverty faced by children in the
country, schools are defined as centers based on standardization, gender
inequality and discrimination. Several days ago, the Peoples' Equality
and Democracy Party (DEM Party) held a conference to discuss the Turkish
education system with the participation of education experts. NuJINHA
spoke to Emine Akyazılı, member of the DEM Party Education Commission,
about the Turkish education system based on standardization, gender
inequality and discrimination.>>

<<Press organizations condemn police violence against journalists
Press organizations have released a statement, condemning police
violence against journalists covering the "Freedom Rally" that took
place in Amed (Diyarbakır) on October 13, 2024.
News Center- Thousands participated in the "Freedom Rally" that took
place in Amed (Diyarbakır) on October 13,2024 to demand the physical
freedom of Kurdish leader Abdullah Ocalan. Police blockaded the people
and used violence against the journalists covering the rally.
'Journalists were prevented from reporting'
The Mesopotamia Women's Journalists Association (MKG), the Dicle Fırat
Journalists' Association (DFG), the Media and Law Studies Association (MLSA),
DİSK Basın-İş, the representatives of the Journalists' Union of Turkey (TGS)
in Diyarbakır, the Haber Sen Diyarbakır Branch and the Local Media
Association have released a written statement, condemning the police
violence against the journalists.
"The "Freedom Rally" scheduled to be held in Diyarbakır on October 13
was banned by the Diyarbakır Governor's Office. Despite the ban, many
people, especially the representatives of political parties, took to the
streets and tried to hold a march. The journalists in the city were also
there to cover the rally," the statement said. "Police responded to the
people and prevented the journalists from covering the rally. In recent
years, police prevention has become a routine, reaching a level of
violence against journalists. Police officers used violence against the
journalists and attempted to detain them. Our colleagues, Heval Onkol,
Ceylan Şahinli, Hevidar Onver and Sonay Odengit, were subjected to
police violence and prevented from reporting. "Although our colleagues
told police officers that they were journalists, they were subjected
violence for a long time."
'We will be in solidarity'
The statement referred to the Constitution and international convention
protecting journalists and said, "Preventing journalists from reporting
is unacceptable. We, the undersigned press organizations, call for an
end to violence against journalists, which has become a routine in
recent years. Stop targeting journalists who do their profession to
protect the public's right to information. We will keep being in
solidarity with all journalists who are being prevented from doing
journalism." >>

Gulistan Eli
Jinha - Womens News Agency - Oct. 14, 2024 - by EBIR MUHEMED
<<'Supporting Syrian refugees is the humanitarian duty of the AANES'
The ongoing Israeli attacks on Lebanon have forced thousands of Syrian
refugees living in the country to flee to North and East Syria.
"Supporting Syrian refugees in the humanitarian duty of the AANES,"
Gulistan Eli said.
Qamishlo- Israeli attacks on southern Lebanon continue, displacing
thousands. Thousands of Syrian refugees living in southern Lebanon have
fled to North and East Syria. Evaluating this situation, the Autonomous
Administration of North and East Syria (AANES) set up a crisis center to
provide aid to the Syrian refugees who fled from southern Lebanon.
NuJINHA spoke to Gulistan Eli, Spokesperson of the crisis center, about
the activities of the center.
'They have been displaced multiple times'
Thousands of people from Rojava and other parts of Syria live in
Lebanon, Gulistan Eli told us. "The situation of Lebanese people is very
bad. Thousands of Syrian refugees in Lebanon have fled to Rojava-North
and East Syria. They have been displaced multiple times. In addition,
there are thousands displaced from Afrin, Serekaniye (Ras al-Ayn) and
Gire Spi (Tell Abyad)."
'We respond to the calls'
When Israeli attacks on Lebanon started, the AANES received many calls
to welcome the refugees who had fled from Lebanon. "We respond to the
calls," said Gulistan Eli. "The AANES always supports the people of
Rojava and Syria. Supporting Syrian refugees is the humanitarian duty of
the AANES. We will protect Syrians coming from abroad as we protect our
people from the attacks of the Turkish state and ISIS."
'The number of displaced people is on the rise'
More than 19,000 people have fled from southern Lebanon to North and
East Syria, according to Gulistan Eli. "All health and humanitarian
organizations work for the crisis center to help the people who fled
from Lebanon. The Heyva Sor (Kurdish Red Crescent) in Rojava has set up
mobile checkpoints at the borders to help them. Unfortunately, many
refugees needed urgent treatment. Until now, more than 19,000 people,
including 69 Lebanese citizens, have already entered the region
controlled by the AANES. In addition, 19 dead bodies were brought to the
region."
Approaches of the Syrian government and armed factions
Gulistan Eli pointed to the approaches of the Syrian government and
armed factions against the Syrian refugees fled from southern Lebanon
and said, "The Syrian refugees fled from Lebanon paid 100 dollars to the
Syrian government's forces to enter our region. In the occupied areas,
the armed factions have closed their doors to the people who fled from
Lebanon. Despite everything, the AANES makes great efforts to support
them and provide aid to them." >>

Hajar Al-Qasimi
Jinha - Womens News Agency - Oct. 14, 2024 - by ZOUHOUR MECHERGUI
<<Tunisian activist: Women's liberation is possible with a collective
struggle
Women living in rural areas of Tunisia are subjected to more violence,
oppression and labor exploitation, says Hajar Al-Qasimi, a Tunisian
activist in Sajanan, a town in Tunisia's Bizerte Governorate.
Tunisia- In 2017, the Tunisian Parliament adopted Law 58, protecting
women from violence against women. Women's rights defenders think that
the law only remains on paper and is not effectively implemented.
In an interview with NuJINHA, Hajar Al-Qasimi, a Tunisian activist and
head of the branch of the National Union of Tunisian Women in Sajanan, a
town in Tunisia's Bizerte Governorate, expressed her concern about the
impoverishment and exclusion of women in Tunisia. "Women face injustice
because the law supposedly adopted to protect women is not effectively
implemented."
'Women's liberation is possible with a collective struggle'
The union defends women's rights and provides support to liberate women
and improve their situation, Hajar Al-Qasimi said. "The situation of
women in Tunisia will remain bad as long as they climb mountains and
work in difficult and tragic conditions in all seasons to earn a living
and have a life with dignity. Women's liberation is possible with a
collective struggle."
'Women are subjected to violence and labor exploitation'
Recalling that the building of the union's branch in Sajanan was looted
during the Tunisian revolution, Hajar Al-Qasimi said, "We lost all the
data. But we opened the office again to carry out activities for
survivors of violence and make the voices of rural women again. Women,
especially rural women, are subjected to violence and labor
exploitation; however, they prefer to remain silent due to the
patriarchal society." Hajar Al-Qasimi also talked about the challenges
faced by women working in factories and agriculture. "They work for
hours with a low wage. If they are lucky, they are paid five dollars a
day because most female agricultural workers are paid less than five
dollars a day. They work without social and health coverage and without
contracts that guarantee them a retirement salary at a certain age."
'We are still hopeful'
Since the 1990s, the union has carried out activities in the town to
support women, especially rural women. "We are still hopeful that the
situation of women living in rural areas will improve. We will make
their voices heard." >>

Leyla Qehreman
Jinha - Womens News Agency - Oct. 14, 2024 - by NUCAN ARAS
<<Leyla Qehreman: We should unite under the umbrella of the Syrian
Women's Union
Leyla Qehreman, Co-chair of the Syrian Democratic Council, calls on
Syrian women to unite under the umbrella of the Syrian Women's Union,
stressing that the women's revolution developed in the light of
Jineology.
Hasakah- Jineology, defined as women's science by Kurdish leader
Abdullah Ocalan, has been embraced by women all around the world.
Jineology has become the main subject of the workshops, panels and
conferences organized by women, especially Kurdish women. At these
events, women shedding light on women's history and reality through
Jineology also discuss social problems and develop solutions. On
September 25-26, the Jineology Academy of North and East Syria held its
second conference in the city of Hasakah, Jazira Canton of North and
East Syria, with the motto, "Women's Wisdom is Updated by Jineology"
with the participation of 300 delegates across North and East Syria. The
conference gave women excitement and hope, said Leyla Qehreman, Co-chair
of the Syrian Democratic Council (Kurdish: Meclisa Suriya Demokratik,
MSD), emphasizing that the conference was important for the construction
of the women’s revolution, also known as Rojava Revolution.
'It has nourished and equipped itself with an ideological heritage
dating back 40 years'
Jineology has raised the struggle with the 'Jin jiyan azadi' philosophy,
attracting the attention of women all around the world, Leyla Qehreman
said, indicating that Jineology has inspired all women around the world.
"The 2nd Conference of the Jineology Academy is of historical
importance. The ongoing wars and the increase in femicide and crises
paralyze society while the male-dominant system is stuck and cannot
produce solutions to existing problems. The current system has
monopolized knowledge, creating information pollution, distorting
science and causing chaos. It aims to enslave society in the name of
women. Despite this system, Jineology keeps developing projects and
research that enlighten women and society and shed light on the history
of women's knowledge and science. Jineology protects the color, language
and consciousness of women, developing women's self-defense. Jineology
has a strong foundation that can develop an alternative perspective for
all social problems because it has nourished and equipped itself with an
ideological heritage dating back 40 years."
'It is the science of making life meaningful as a whole'
The women's revolution or Rojava Revolution is important for the
development of Jineology, Leyla Qehreman emphasized. "The development of
Jineology is the achievement and success of societies. One of the main
goals of Jineology is to ensure equality, democracy and unity in
society. It is the science of making life meaningful as a whole. Like an
ocean, Jineology waves to give hope to all women and humanity against
all the ruling powers, the nationalist and patriarchal mindset that make
life meaningless. Jineology is based on the 'Jin, Jiyan, Azadi'
philosophy. The women’s revolution in Rojava sees itself as a part of
Jineology and feels responsible for its development."
'Women's struggle in social spaces strengthens their self-defense'
Leyla Qehreman also said that the policies of the ruling powers aimed to
prevent women's political participation. "The absence of women in
politics causes more serious problems. Jineology helps women find their
lost roles in society, promoting women's political participation. All
women should improve themselves by giving importance to knowledge,
politics and science. Women's struggle in social spaces will strengthen
their self-defense.
'The current system is afraid of organized women'
"As the Syrian Democratic Council, we receive significant support from
Jineoloji in developing projects and studies about women's activities.
The studies and research of jineology provide us, women, information and
knowledge. Women are directly affected by the ongoing war, crisis and
attacks in Syria. One of the reasons for the crisis suffered by society
is that women are prevented from playing their important roles in
society. Women's political participation should be supported." At the
end of her speech, Leyla Qehreman called on all women in Syria to "unite
under the umbrella of the Syrian Women's Union with all your feelings
and thoughts. We should organize ourselves and produce solutions to all
problems and be the source of inspiration for women's movements around
the world. We can break down this sovereign system if we struggle,
organize ourselves and unite. The current system is afraid of organized
women. The unity of the Syrian women will ensure free life and the
development of democratic solutions to all problems experienced in
Syria." >>

Konga star
Jinha - Womens News Agency - Oct. 11, 2024
<<Kongra Star commemorates Hevrin Khalaf and Mother Eqîde
Kongra Star has released a written statement, commemorating Hevrin
Khalaf, the Secretary General of the Future Syria Party, and Mother
Eqide, member of the Mediation Committee of Girke Lege, who were killed
in Turkish attacks.
News Center- Kongra Star has released a written statement, commemorating
Hevrin Khalaf, the Secretary General of the Future Syria Party who was
killed by Turkish-backed Ahrar al-Sharqiya members on October 12, 2019,
and Yade Eqide, member of the Mediation Committee of Girke Lege who was
killed in a Turkish attack on October 13, 2019. In the statement, Kongra
Star defines the killing of Hevrin Khalaf as an attempt "to silence the
voices of free women and to destroy their identity and struggle." "Hevrin
Khalaf was the symbol of resistance and struggle for freedom. Hevrin
always made efforts to build a democratic Syria. The occupying Turkish
state first attacks women because it is afraid of the power of women
leaders of the revolution." The statement emphasized that the fight
against occupation attacks would continue and called on the
international community to fulfill its historical responsibilities for
bringing the killers of women to account. "We condemn the international
silence against the attacks of the Turkish state and Turkish-backed
factions. We call on the guarantor state to do their part in protecting
human rights."
'We will strengthen our struggle for freedom'
At the end of the statement, Kongra Star vows to "strengthen our
struggle for freedom with the spirit of Mother Eqîde, martyr Hevrin
Khalaf and all women who sacrificed their lives on the path to freedom.
The 'Jin, Jiyan, Azadi' philosophy will light our path. Our struggle
will continue until our occupied areas are liberated and a democratic
Syria is built. We will never give up or take a step back." >>

Amal Al-Amin
Jinha - Womens News Agency - Oct. 11, 2024 - by HANAN HARET
<<Moroccan women discuss implementation of Beijing Declaration
Moroccan women gathered to discuss the implementation of the Beijing
Declaration and Platform for Action and prepare a national report.
Morocco- More than 60 Moroccan women’s organizations and NGOs came
together to discuss the implementation of the Beijing Declaration and
Platform for Action and prepare a national report. The Beijing
Declaration was a resolution adopted by the UN at the end of the Fourth
World Conference on Women on September 15, 1995. The national report
includes a set of recommendations regarding the political, economic and
social status of women and girls in the country and their participation
in decision-making positions. Regarding the importance and role of such
reports, Amal Al-Amin, project manager at the Moroccan Association for
Human Rights, said, "Such reports are a way to put pressure on
governments to improve the human rights situation in the countries.
Since Morocco has already ratified some international conventions
related to women's rights, it is obligated to respond to the
recommendations in the reports."
'There is still a long way to go to achieve gender equality'
"There are still large gender gaps between men and women despite the
struggle of Moroccan women and the gains they have achieved," Amal Al-Amin
said. "I think there is still a long way to go to achieve gender
equality without discrimination. Everyone should make great efforts to
improve the situation of women in Morocco."
'Girls are deprived of their right to education'
Speaking about the prepared report, Amal Al-Amin said, "One of the
issues discussed by us was the right to education. Despite all the
efforts, the dropout rate for girls is still high. Many girls are
deprived of their right to education in Morocco. Education is a powerful
tool to help women and girls escape poverty and improve their social
status. Programs are needed to enable girls to study and to abolish
child marriage, especially in rural areas."
Call for women
"The gender gap still exists in many areas, especially in rural and
marginalized areas," Amal Al-Amin emphasized. "Women's economic
empowerment should be promoted to ensure their rights and protection by
improving their economic conditions, investing their projects and
creating employment for them. I call on the government to develop
policies that reduce the gender gap, especially in rural areas, and
allow women to enjoy all their rights because a country can develop when
the status of women are developed." >>
