Permanent Security' Operation
Jinha - Womens News Agency - Nov. 6, 2024
<<'Permanent Security' Operation launched in al-Hol camp
The Women's Defense Units (YPJ), the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) and
the Internal Security Forces, with the support of the International
Coalition, have launched an operation called <Permanent Security" in al-Hol
camp in northeast Syria.
News Center- The Women's Defense Units (YPJ), the Syrian Democratic
Forces (SDF) and the Internal Security Forces, with the support of the
International Coalition, have launched a large-scale operation called
"Permanent Security" against ISIS in and around al-Hol camp in northeast
Syria.
"ISIS has carried out attacks against the Internal Security Forces and
camp residents, especially in the southern and northern of the camp,"
said YPJ Media Center Spokesperson Rûken Cemal and Qehreman Murad,
member of the Internal Security Forces, at a press conference in al-Hol
camp located in Jazira Canton of North and East Syria on Wednesday.
'The operation will ensure the security of the region'
"Today, we announce that we have launched the "Permanent Security"
Operation with the support of the International Coalition. This
operation aims to take control of al-Hol camp and its surroundings,
capture ISIS members and their collaborators. The operation will clear
al-Hol camp and its surrounding villages from ISIS terrorism and ensure
the security of the region." According to the statement, the operation
has been launched in and around the camp based on the information and
confessions given by arrested ISIS members. "According to the received
information, ISIS sleeper cells are planning new attacks." Recalling
that three members of the Internal Security Forces were martyred when
ISIS members conducted an attack on a checkpoint on the road between al-Hol
and Shaddadah on September 26, 2024, the statement said, "This shows
that ISIS still poses a threat to the region. A large-scale operation
against ISIS sleeper cells is a must." >>

DEM Party Women's Council
Jinha - Womens News Agency - Nov. 6, 2024
<<'The draft law aims to legalize misogyny'
The draft law preventing married women from taking their premarital
surname alone presented to the General Assembly for a final vote is "an
attack on women's identity," said the statement released by the DEM
Party Women's Council.
Ankara- The obligation for married women to take the surname of the male
spouse was legally abolished in Türkiye on January 28, 2024, when the
Turkish Constitutional Courts decision came into force. However, a
draft law preventing married women from taking their premarital surname
alone has been submitted to the Turkish General Assembly. Women
activists and women's rights defenders in the country say the draft law
will usurp women's rights, if passed. The Peoples' Equality and
Democracy Party (DEM Party) Women's Council has published a written
statement, saying that they will not allow the re-enactment of Article
187 of the Turkish Civil Code, which obliges women to take the surname
of their male spouse upon marriage. "The AKP-MHP male-dominated
government aims to legalize misogyny by enacting laws," the statement
said. "Article 187 of the Turkish Civil Code deepens gender inequality.
The Constitutional Court ruled to abolish the article and its decision
was published in the Official Gazette. The misogynist political power
drafted a new article without making any changes by taking action to
fill the gap in the law. Trying to pass the draft law is an attack on
women's identity. We will never allow this draft law to be passed by the
government that produces policies reinforcing gender inequality. The
draft law is an attack on women's rights and achievements. We will
strengthen our struggle for freedom and equality everywhere. Those who
attack our rights by drafting laws, silence, intimidate and ignore women
should know very well that we exist and we will exist." >>

Women of Deir ez-Zor
Jinha - Womens News Agency - Nov. 6, 2024 - by EYNEB XILEF
<<Women of Deir ez-Zor: Turkish attacks target civilians
"The Turkish attacks on North and East Syria target civilians," said the
women of Deir ez-Zor, calling on the international community to take an
immediate action against the Turkish attacks.
Deir ez-Zor- The Turkish attacks on North and East Syria continue,
targeting infrastructure, hospitals and civilians. Women of Deir ez-Zor
condemn the ongoing Turkish attacks, calling on the international
community to take an immediate action against the attacks. Reem Al-Rawam,
Co-mayor of Hajin, a small city in Deir ez-Zor, condemned the Turkish
attacks on the region and said, "The Turkish state targets civilian
infrastructure on the excuse that it ensures national security. The main
target of the Turkish state is the system based on democracy."
'Action must be taken to end the aggression'
Criticizing the silence of the countries claiming that they are
guarantors protecting the people of North and East Syria, Reem Al-Rawam
demanded the Turkish state be held responsible for killing civilians.
Reem Al-Rawam also addressed humanitarian aid and human rights
organizations, calling on them to intervene and raise their voice to
protect the people and the gains of the revolution. "The international
community must fulfill its responsibilities and take an immediate action
to end this aggression targeting thousands of people. Violations must be
ended and people must be protected."
'We are ready against all kinds of attacks'
Hayat Al-Ahmed, member of the Zenubya Women's Community, defines the
Turkish attacks as "brutal". "As children of this region, we are ready
against all kinds of attacks. We expect these attacks at any time
because the Turkish state is an enemy that threatens the security and
stability of North and East Syria. It sees the system based on democracy
in North and East Syria as a threat."
'The Turkish state has already crossed the red line'
The Turkish state has committed crimes against humanity, Hayat Al-Ahmad
stressed. "As the women of Deir ez-Zor, we will struggle and stand with
the Syrian Democratic Forces against any attack on our regions. We will
do our best to repel the attacks. The Turkish state has already crossed
the red line by targeting civilians," said Hayat Al-Ahmed, calling on
the international powers to take an immediate action against the Turkish
attacks targeting civilians.>>

We will defend our municipality
Jinha - Womens News Agency - Nov. 6, 2024 - by MEDINE MAMEDOGLU
<<'We will defend our municipality and our will whatever the
consequences'
"This oppression must end. We will defend our municipality and our will
whatever the consequences," said the women of Mardin, commenting on the
removal of the elected Co-mayors of Mardin.
Mêrdin (Mardin)- On October 4, 2024, Turkish Ministry of Internal
Affairs removed the elected co-mayors of Mardin, Elih (Batman) and
Xelfetî (Halfeti), three municipalities run by the Peoples' Equality and
Democracy Party (DEM Party), from office and appointed trustees in their
place. Since then, politicians, activists, NGOs and international
organizations have released statements condemning the removal of the
elected mayors. In Mardin, people have been holding a vigil in front of
the municipal building to protest the attack on their will. The women of
Mardin call on everyone not to remain silent against this unlawful
practice.
'This city and this municipality are ours'
Emine Aydogan is one of the women going in front of the municipal
building early in the morning to defend their will. "We have been here
since the early morning. We do not recognize this decision ignoring our
will. We voted and elected our mayors. I call on all mothers to join our
sit-in protest in front of the municipal building. This city and this
municipality are ours. They (the government) try to steal our
municipalities. When we protest this, we are beaten. They attack the
people defending their will. We will defend our municipality and our
will whatever the consequences. We do not recognize this usurpation,
even if they kill us all."
'We will not give up our rights'
Zubeyde Gul, another woman joining the vigil in front of the municipal
building, called on the Kurdish people to defend their will. "We are
here to defend our will. We demand our rights and will not give up our
rights. They (the government) attack the Kurdish people and Rojava
whenever they are in trouble. We are Kurds and will not give up our
right to vote and be elected. We will not leave here until we take back
our rights."
'People must fight for their usurped municipalities'
Mujde Aykal reminded that the elected mayors had been removed from
office twice before. "They have removed the elected mayors from office
for the third time (since 2016). We will resist as we resisted before.
We are not afraid and we will keep struggling for our will whatever the
consequences. We will hold our vigil until we take back our
municipality. They will never intimidate us or make us take a step back.
All we demand is the end of this unlawful practice. People must fight
for their usurped municipalities. Together, we must respond to this
mindset that appoints trustees to the municipalities early in the
morning, like thieves." >>

<<Olives cannot be harvested in Afrin due to attacks
Women of Soxaneke, a village in Afrins Sherewa district controlled by
the Turkish state and Turkish-backed factions, say they cannot harvest
olives due to the ongoing attacks.
Shahba- Since Afrin was occupied by the Turkish state and Turkish-backed
faction on March 18, 2018, the residents have been subjected to many
crimes against humanity such as torture, arrest, harassment and rights
violations. In addition to these practices, the Turkish-backed factions
also plunder the nature of the region. Every year, people of Afrin
cannot harvest olives due to attacks by the Turkish state and its armed
factions. People living in the village of Soxaneke, Afrin's Sherewa
district, have not been able to plant or harvest olives for seven years
because they have been targeted by the members of the Turkish-backed
factions.
'We are not allowed to harvest olives'
"Although we are landowners, we are not allowed to harvest olives,"
Naziliye Omar Cimo, a resident of Soxaneke, told NuJINHA. "We resist the
occupation attacks of the Turkish state. The aim of the attacks is to
depopulate the region so that they will settle their members. Our olive
fields are located in the north of the village, only 400 meters away
from us; however, we have not been able to harvest our olives for seven
years. The occupying factions steal our olives and cut down our trees."
'We will not leave our village'
Narin Muhammed Eli has not been able to harvest olives for seven years
because the Turkish-backed factions have not allowed her to go to her
olive field. "Our village is at risk because the members of armed
factions attack our villages by using weapons. We have 180 olive trees;
however, we cannot harvest olives because the occupying factions of the
Turkish state do not allow us. This occupation must be ended. Despite
all the attacks, we, as women, will not leave our village." >>

Child labor in Afghanistan
Jinha - Womens News Agency - Nov. 5, 2024 - by BAHARIN LEHIB
<<Child labor in Afghanistan increases
The number of children, who have to work due to extreme poverty, is an
issue of growing concern in Afghanistan. The situation of children in
the country has been deteriorating since the Taliban takeover.
Kabul- The number of children, who are pushed into child labor in
Afghanistan, especially since the Taliban takeover, is an issue of
growing concern in the country. Extreme poverty, religious and social
pressures and sexist approaches are some of the reasons for the increase
in child labor in Afghanistan, one of the poorest countries in the
world. Since the Taliban's takeover of Afghanistan in 2021, more
families have been suffering from extreme poverty and many children have
to work due to the Taliban's ban on women's work. Not only women but
also men lost their jobs because many were replaced by members of the
Taliban. Families trying to cope with this poverty force their children
into the labor force; however, Child workers are subjected to physical
and sexual violence at work.
3,7 million child workers
According to the official data, there are 3,7 million child workers in
Afghanistan. The International Labor Organization announced on the World
Day Against Child Labor in 2014 that three million children between the
ages of 5-17 years old were engaged in child labor. In 2017, the Afghan
Independent Human Rights Commission (AIHRC) published a report on child
labor in the country. According to the report, 33% of children were
subjected to physical violence at work; 39% of children were insulted at
work; more than 27% were pushed into doing hard work and 16% were
subjected to sexual assault at work. According to the report, 90% of
children worked more than 35 hours a week. Child workers were generally
between the ages of 7-18 years old 80% of them were over the age of 12
and 92% were boys. In 2018, a spokesperson of the Ministry of Labor and
Social Affairs announced that the number of child workers in the country
was 1,2 million and 3 million children were living below the poverty
line. But the ministry then announced that the number of child workers
in the country was between 3,000 and 4,000.>>

Enahid Qesebiyan
Jinha - Womens News Agency - Nov. 5, 2024 - by RONIDA HACI
<<Armenian women respond to attacks with 'Jin, Jiyan, Azadi'
Enahîd Qesebiyan, member of the Armenian Women's Union in North and East
Syria, condemns the Turkish attacks on northeastern Syria, saying that
the attacks are the repetition of the 1915 Armenian Genocide.
Hasakah- The Turkish state intensified its attacks on North and East
Syria on October 23, 2024, killing civilians, including women and
children. Although the people in the region reacted to the attacks, the
international community remained silent. The silence against the attacks
is an approval, said Enahid Qesebiyan, member of the Armenian Women's
Union in North and East Syria, calling for solidarity.
'The attacks are the repetition of the 1915 genocide'
The Turkish attacks on North and East Syria should be seen as the
repetition of the 1915 Armenian Genocide, Enahid Qesebiyan said. "In
1915, the Turkish state, the Ottoman Empire, committed a genocide
against Armenians, confiscating their properties. This policy continues
today. In 1915, Armenian identity, culture and language were destroyed.
Now, people from different nationalities are being killed."
'We exist; no one can annihilate us'
Enahid Qesebiyan recalled that women fought and responded to genocidal
attacks during the Rojava Revolution. "As Armenians, we preserved our
existence in the system of the Autonomous Administration of North and
East Syria. Thanks to this system, Armenian people got to know
themselves, their identity and Armenian women founded their union. We
will no longer remain silent against attacks, denial and genocide. We
are Armenian women and we will preserve our culture and language."
'The philosophy of Jin, Jiyan, Azadi has built unity and solidarity'
The "Jin, Jiyan, Azadi" philosophy has built unity and solidarity among
women all over the world, Enahid Qesebiyan stressed. "Since the Rojava
Revolution, women have made efforts in line with this philosophy. This
philosophy has strengthened the unity of women in North and East Syria.
Today, we see how this philosophy is recognized all over the world and
how resistance is shaped according to this philosophy. This is a
historic step for women's freedom. As Armenian women, we defend and
preserve our identity, history, culture, language and society in line
with this philosophy to respond to the 1915 Armenian Genocide."
'Silence against the attacks is an approval'
Enahid Qesebiyan emphasized that the Turkish attacks actually targeted
the system built by the people of North and East Syria. "The Turkish
attacks target the civilian infrastructure in the region; they target
women's revolution. The silence of countries is an approval. We have
been going through a sensitive process and we stand against these
attacks in line with the "Jin, Jiyan, Azadi" philosophy. We call on all
women to strengthen their solidarity against the attacks and take a
stand against plans of destruction, annihilation and massacre." >>

Saniye Bayram
Jinha - Womens News Agency - Nov. 5, 2024 - by AXIN BAHAR
<<Co-mayor Saniye Bayram: We will not allow them to finish off Xelfeti
Saniye Bayram, the elected Co-mayor of Xelfeti, defined the appointment
of a trustee to the municipality as a "coup against the will of people",
adding that they would not "allow them to finish off Xelfeti."
Riha(Urfa)- On Monday, Turkish Ministry of Internal Affairs removed the
Co-mayors of Mardin, Elih (Batman) and Riha district Xelfeti (Halfeti),
three municipalities run by the Peoples' Equality and Democracy Party
(DEM Party), and appointed trustees in their place. On December 2, 2016,
Mustafa Bayram, former Co-mayor of Xelfeti, was detained and sent to
prison. On December 23, 2016, the ministry appointed Şeref Albayrak,
former district governor, as a trustee in his place. In local elections
held in 2019, the AKP nominated Şeref Albayrak as its candidate. Şeref
Albayrak was elected as mayor of the district by <transported voters>.
In the local elections held on March 31, 2024, DEM Party mayoral
co-candidates Saniye Bayram and Mehmet Karayılan were elected as the
Co-mayors of the district. After receiving the formal mandate, they
announced that the municipality had a debt of 460,601,277 Turkish liras,
and started investigating the irregularities of former AKP Mayor Şeref
Albayrak. On Monday, the Turkish Ministry of Internal Affairs appointed
Hakan Başoglu, district governor, as a trustee to the municipality.
Saniye Bayram: We made great efforts to repair the damage they left
behind. Co-mayor Saniye Bayram told NuJINHA that they would hold a vigil
in front of the municipal building until the decision was overturned.
"We won a victory in the elections but a trustee was appointed in our
place. Şeref Albayrak, who was appointed as a trustee in 2016 and won
elections in 2019 by transporting voters, and his team exploited the
district; they sold all properties of the municipality. They dragged the
municipality into debt. For months, we made great efforts to repair the
damage they left behind."
'The issue is not the seat, but the will of the people' On March 31,
2024, the residents of the district went to the polls to elect their
mayor, to get rid of the mindset of the AKP because they wanted a
change. "They (AKP mayoral candidate) transported about 5,000 voters.
For us, it was an election but a battle. The counting of votes lasted
hours. We did not sleep, eat or drink so that the votes would not be
stolen. Despite everything, we were elected as Co-mayors. Now, the issue
is not the seat but the will of the people."
'We will hold a vigil'
On November 4, 2024, Saniye Bayram and all people in the district
learned that a trustee was appointed to the Xelfeti Municipality. "We
will hold a vigil in front of the municipal building until the decision
is overturned," said Saniye Bayram.
Dilan Kunt: We see that their dreams are not about democracy
DEM Party Riha (Urfa) MP Dilan Kunt Ayan condemned the removal of the
elected mayors. Pointing to the recent statements of the AKP-MHP
government regarding a new possible peace process, Dilan Kunt Ayan said,
"We see that their dreams are not about democracy. The removal of the
elected mayors is not only an attack on the right to vote and to be
elected but also an attack on democracy." >>

Women journalists in Rojava
Jinha - Womens News Agency - Nov. 5, 2024 - ŞERIN MUHAMED
<<Women journalists in Rojava protect gains of revolution
Women journalists in Rojava report the truth about society, the gains of
the revolution, and the attacks on the region to the whole world.
Qamishlo- Women, who led the revolution in North and East Syria, have
participated in all facets of life to rebuild life, improve themselves
by receiving education. Women journalists in the region have reported
the gains of the revolution and the experiences of women to the whole
world.
Women graduating from the faculty of journalism use their pens to raise
awareness, change society and empower women. "I wanted to work as a
journalist to improve myself more and gain enough experience in the
media field," said Berivan Qassem, one of the women studying journalism
at the University of Rojava.
'We should work very hard'
Berivan Qassem, a resident of Amuda, works in Qamishlo to gain more
experience. "I am a reporter for Rojava TV. Giving a message from our
society to the whole world and telling the truth to the whole world are
our responsibility," she told NuJINHA. "As women journalists, we should
work very hard to make the womens revolution in Rojava successful."
'We want to rewrite our history'
Most university students are young women, Berivan Qassem said, "This
proves that women struggle to improve themselves and society. We want to
rewrite our history through the opportunities provided by the
revolution. Women working in journalism have broken gender stereotypes
in society and proved that women are capable of working in every field.
Thanks to our martyrs who sacrificed their lives, we receive education
in our own language and graduate from universities. We follow in the
footsteps of our martyrs to realize their dreams and protect the gains
of the revolution." Berivan Qassem also called on all young women to
protect the gains of the revolution. "I am proud to have graduated from
a Kurdish university and I will work hard to make the voice of society,
especially women, heard and written."
"Following the Rojava Revolution, people of Afrin started receiving
education in Kurdish," said Lilav Ali, a displaced journalist of Afrin.
"I received education in Kurdish until the sixth grade. Receiving
education was the dream of our ancestors. Then, I started studying the
history of Kurdistan and the battles took place in Kurdistan. At that
time, I realized how the media plays an important role to change society
and began to work as a journalist."
'I made great efforts to report what happened in Afrin'
When Lilav Ali decided to work as a journalist, her family did not
accept in the beginning, "Because our society did not accept women to
work as journalists. But I was always determined to prove myself in
society. Therefore, I struggled to change my family and my society."
Right after she began to work as a journalist, the Turkish state and
Turkish-backed factions started attacking Afrin. "I faced challenges but
I never gave up writing women's stories. I made great efforts to report
what happened in Afrin and the attacks targeting civilians, including
children and women."
'We were determined to resist'
Lilav Ali could not complete her education because the Turkish state and
Turkish-backed factions occupied Afrin. "The Turkish attacks targeted
the gains of our revolution. They aimed to take our language, our
memories and our city from us. Despite all the challenges, we were
determined to resist." After being displaced from Afrin to Shahba, Lilav
Ali began to study journalism at the University of Rojava and graduated
from the university. "Now, I am a reporter for Rojava TV. We will follow
in the footsteps of our martyrs by writing the realities of our people.
I call on all women to protect the gains of the women's revolution." >>

<<Hopes of peace talks dashed: Kurdish leaders accuse Turkish govt of
'liquidation' plot in trustee appointments
Kurdish political leaders in Batman have denounced the appointment to
the municipality of a government trustee in place of their elected
mayor, claiming the move dashes hopes of negotiation and instead aims to
eliminate Kurdish political representation. Residents of Batman have
gathered to protest against the appointment of a trustee to
administration of the city's municipality, which is led by the
pro-Kurdish Peoples' Equality and Democracy (DEM) Party. Speaking at the
demonstration, DEM Party co-chair Tuncer Bakırhan recalled a recent
handshake between far right government coalition partner Nationalist
Movement Party (MHP) leader Devlet Bahçeli, saying, "We thought they
might negotiate, but we see they are planning our liquidation." Bakırhan
warned the <usurpers and thieves> preparing this <plot> to give up on
their attempts to deny the identity and will of the Kurdish people. "We
tell our comrades and our people: We will continue the struggle until we
create a time when the will of the people of Elih [Batman] will manifest
once more on these lands, where life will again be humane," he said. DEM
Party co-chair Tulay Hatimogulları described the trustee appointment as
a <coup> seeking to steal the will of the people, similar to the lifting
of parliamentary immunity in 2016, that led to the imprisonment of
pro-Kurdish party co-chairs Selahattin Demirtaş and Figen Yuksekdag.
"The Kurdish people will raise the voice of the struggle for freedom and
democracy together with other peoples and with women in Turkey, as one
body," she said. "The will of the people will be manifested on these
streets. We will all stand up for this will together." Pro-Kurdish
Democratic Regions Party (DBP) co-chair Keskin Bayındır said that the
Kurdish people reject the "occupation" and will resist until their will
prevails. "Our response to you is struggle and resistance until the end,
until we succeed," he said, addressing the government.
Chants of "Long live the resistance of the Kurdish people" and
"Kurdistan will be the grave of fascism," rang out throughout the
demonstration.>>
