<<At least 24,285 Palestinians killed in Israeli strike on Gaza since
Oct.7
At least 24,285 Palestinians have been killed and 61,154 have been
wounded in Israeli strikes on Gaza since October 7, 2023, the Gaza's
health ministry said in a statement.
News Center- At least 24,285 Palestinians, including 10,300 children and
7,100 women, have been killed and 61,154 have been wounded in Israeli
strikes on Gaza since October 7, 2023, the Gaza's health ministry said
in a statement on Tuesday. Israel keeps targeting hospitals, schools,
houses and the shelters of displaced Palestinians in Gaza. Palestinian
news agency WAFA reported that Israeli airstrikes targeted several areas
in the Gaza Strip in the morning and last night, killing dozens of
Palestinians. Israeli airstrikes targeted homes in the Daraj
neighborhood in Gaza, killing at least 25 and injuring dozens; the
Israeli forces also killed at least seven Palestinians near Nasser
Hospital in Khan Yunis, south of the Gaza Strip, WAFA said.
Body of 4-year-old girl handed over
The Israeli forces opened fire on two vehicles as they passed through
the Beit Iksa checkpoint on January 7, killing three Palestinians,
including a 4-year-old girl identified as Ruqaya Abu Dahouk. The Red
Crescent Society (RCS) has announced that the Israeli authorities handed
over the body of Ruqaya Abu Dahouk on Tuesday evening.
'Israel uses food as a weapon'
Over one hundred days into the war, Israel has been destroying Gaza's
food system and weaponized food, UN human rights experts said in a
statement on January 16. <Currently every single person in Gaza is
hungry, a quarter of the population are starving and struggling to find
food and drinkable water, and famine is imminent. Pregnant women are not
receiving adequate nutrition and healthcare, putting their lives at
risk. In addition all children under five - 335,000 - are at high risk
of severe malnutrition as the risk of famine conditions continues to
increase, a whole generation is now in danger of suffering from
stunting,> said the experts.
'Nowhere is safe in Gaza'
<Nowhere is safe in Gaza. Since 9 October, Israel declared and imposed a
<total siege> on Gaza, depriving 2.3 million Palestinians of water,
food, fuel, medicine, and medical supplies, this against the backdrop of
a 17-year Israeli blockade, which before this war made approximately
half of the people in Gaza food insecure and more than 80 percent
reliant on humanitarian aid,> the statement said. <It is unprecedented
to make an entire civilian population go hungry this completely and
quickly. Israel is destroying Gaza's food system and using food as a
weapon against the Palestinian people.> >>

Displaced women don't give in
Jinha - 17 Jan 2024 - by HESNA MIHEMED
<<Reactions to death sentences, life imprisonment given to women in
occupied Afrin
The death sentences given to two kidnapped women and life imprisonment
given to eight others by the Turkish state and Turkish-backed factions
in Afrin spark anger in North and East Syria.
Shahba- Afrin was occupied by the Turkish state and Turkish-backed
factions on March 18, 2018. Since then, women living in Afrin have been
subjected to many rights violations such as rape, kidnapping, torture
and all forms of violence. Several days ago, a <court> set up by the
Turkish state and Turkish-backed factions sentenced two kidnapped women
to death and eight more to life imprisonment. Despite that, the
international community keeps remaining silent. Displaced women of
Afrin, who have lived in Shahba since 2018 think that the Turkish state
and Turkish-backed factions are encouraged by this silence.
'Does the Turkish state have the right to judge?'
In her speech, Heyat Îbrahim, one of the displaced women of Afrin,
condemned violations committed against women in the occupied Afrin. <The
Turkish state is an occupying state. Does an occupying state have the
right to judge women and impose a penalty on women? Women, who have been
sentenced to death and life imprisonment, are Syrian women. The Syrian
government should react to this decision. The Syrian government must
protect its citizens; however, it remains silent like international
human rights organizations,> Heyat Ibrahim said.
'This silence should be broken now'
Hevin Mihemed also reacted to the penalties given to the kidnapped women
in the occupied Afrin. <The Turkish state and Turkish-backed factions
have committed rights violations since they occupied Afrin. Erdoğan held
women captive and decided to judge them because he is afraid of women.
Two women have been sentenced to death and eight others to life
imprisonment. Afrin is part of Syrian territory and the Turkish state
has no right to stay here. Women, who do not leave Afrin, face brutal
practices. The silence against these brutal practices should be broken.
We demand immediate release of these women.>
'Erdogan should be held responsible'
Hamida Mihemed thinks that Turkey's President Erdogan should be held
responsible for judging and imposing sentences on women in the occupied
Afrin. <Since the occupation of Afrin, women and men have been subjected
to many violations such as torture, kidnapping and attacks.
International human rights organizations fail to do their duty in order
to protect women's rights and human rights in Afrin. Erdogan attacks
everywhere in Afrin. Erdogan should be prosecuted for the crimes
committed against women and men in the occupied Afrin.> >>

Womens' Time association
Jinha - 17 Jan 2024
<<Women's Time Association: We will not give up the struggle
<We will not give up the struggle,> said the Women's Time Association in
a statement regarding the detention of Kurdish women activists in
Istanbul.
News Center- Turkish police conducted dawn house raids in Istanbul
yesterday, detaining 17 women, including Dilek Başalan, president of the
Women's Time Association (Turkish: Kadın Zamanı Dernegi); activists of
the Free Women's Movement (Kurdish: Tevgera Jinen Azad-TJA); members of
the Peace Mothers' Initiative, the Mesopotamia Cultural Center (MKM) and
the People's Equality and Democracy Party (DEM Party).
'There are attempts to criminalize the activities of women activists'
The Women's Time Association held a press conference at its building in
Istanbul regarding the detention of women. <There are attempts to
criminalize the activities of women activists as a result of the sexist
policies carried out by the judiciary, which has joined hands with the
male-dominant government and lost its independence,> said Esra Biber at
the conference.
'This is an attempt to silence Kurdish women'
Everyone defending human rights, equality and freedom against the
government's nationalist and misogynist policies is labeled as
'terrorist', Esra Biber said. <The detention of the president of our
association, the activists of the TJA and members of the MKM is an
attempt to silence Kurdish women struggling against rights violations
faced by Kurdish women. The government aims to prevent our feminist
struggle by intensifying its attacks on women activists.>
'The detention of women activists is unacceptable'
Pointing out that the detention of women activists just before the
upcoming local elections is unacceptable, Esra Biber said, <Turkey is
going through a period in which fundamental rights and freedoms are
violated and people are subjected to arbitrary detention. The detention
of women activists is a crackdown on the feminist movement. We say once
again that your dirty politics and aggressive policies cannot make us
take a step back from our struggle. We will not give up the struggle.>

News Center- Kongra Star has issued a written statement on the Turkish
attacks on North and East Syria. Condemning the Turkish attacks
targeting civilian infrastructure in North and East Syria, Kongra Star
demanded the air space of the region be closed to the Turkish warplanes.
<The occupying Turkish state carried out terrorist attacks against the
people of North and East Syria. The aim of the attacks is to destabilize
the region, revive ISIS and depopulate the region,> read the statement.
'We will not surrender'
The occupying Turkish state targets the gains of the women's revolution
and the Autonomous Administration of North and East Syria (AANES), the
statement said. <We strongly condemn the threats of the Turkish state
and its ongoing attacks. As an active organization in the region, we
will defend the gains of the women's revolution and we will not
surrender. The silence of the international organizations encourages the
Turkish state. The Turkish state keeps committing war crimes due to this
silence.>
'Close the air space'
In the statement, Kongra Star called on all women’s organizations and
human rights organizations against capitalism, fascism and colonialism
to <support the women's revolution in North and East Syria and
participate in the demonstrations and protests demanding the end of the
Turkish attacks. The Turkish state should be held responsible for its

<<Zubeyde Zumrut: The isolation should be broken now
Commenting on the international campaign titled, <Freedom for Abdullah
Ocalan, political solution to the Kurdish issue>, Zubeyde Zumrut said,
<The isolation should be broken now, this is obvious.>
News Center- On October 10, 2023, an international campaign titled,
<Freedom for Abdullah Ocalan, political solution to the Kurdish issue>
was launched and 74 press conferences demanding the freedom for Abdullah
Ocalan were held around the world. In an interview with NuJINHA, Zubeyde
Zumrut, Co-chair of the European Kurdish Democratic Societies Congress (KCDK-E),
spoke about the campaign and protests for freedom of Abdullah Ocalan.
Recalling the previous campaigns and protests demanding freedom for
Abdullah Ocalan, Zubeyde Zumrut said, <The 'Dem Dema Azadi (English:
Time to Ensure Freedom)' was launched. After this campaign, the Kurdish
people thought that something else should be done. Therefore, a campaign
was launched on October 10, 2023 because October 10 marks the beginning
of the conspiracy (against Abdullah Ocalan). No news has been received
from our leader for three years; he has not been allowed to see his
lawyers and family members. Everyone knows how the isolation has been
aggravated but no statement has been issued about this.>
'Friends are concerned about the leader's freedom'
Speaking about how the campaign launched on October 10, she said, <The
previous campaigns were, of course, very important. Many people and
organizations expressed their support for the campaign. The presidents
of unions, writers, academics, journalists, philosophers and many more
have supported the current campaign led by the friends of our leader.
Today, not only the Kurds but also our friends are concerned about the
leader's freedom and breaking the isolation imposed on him.>
A person having a broad paradigm has been held hostage in Imrali Prison
for 25 years and this is unacceptable, Zubeyde Zumrut said. <The
campaign is an international campaign planned to be launched in 74
places, but it was launched in 100 places. The campaign is spreading all
around the world.>
'The system in Imrali is an uncommon system in the world'
Zubeyde Zumrut indicated that the system in Imrali is an uncommon system
in the world. <The international conspiracy against our leader was
launched by Turkey with the support of international powers and NATO.
Our leader has been struggling for 25 years. Today, our friends lead the
campaign. They are the friends of the Kurdish people.>
'The isolation should be broken now, this is obvious'
People, who think globally, know very well that the solution to the
wars, political crisis and chaos in the Middle East cannot be achieved
without Ocalan, Zubeyde Zumrut emphasized. <The Kurdish issue has a long
history. The reasons why a solution has not been developed for the
Kurdish issue and the demands and status of the Kurds cannot be accepted
are obviously known. The political genocidal policies carried out by
fascism and nationalism against the Kurds in Turkey show that the
isolation is not imposed only on our leader but also on humanity. The
isolation should be broken now, this is obvious. The isolation, which
has no legal basis in Turkey, is being used against the Kurds. The
resistance against the isolation will continue, but it is insufficient.
More brutal fascist policies are implemented against the people. This
campaign is actually the beginning. The campaign will continue and we
will keep taking to the streets until we receive news from our leader,
until the isolation is broken and the freedom of our leader is
achieved.>
Demonstration in Cologne on February 17
February 15 is a dark day for the Kurds, Zubeyde Zumrut said. <The
resistance of the Kurdish people, young people and women frustrated this
conspiracy in 1999. The international conspiracy failed. We will hold a
demonstration in Cologne on February 17. The Kurdish people defend their
leader and their own will. There are more than three million Kurds in
Europe. We call on the Kurdish people and their friends to participate
in the demonstration to break the isolation and demand a political
solution to the Kurdish issue. Many marches will be held in England and
Scandinavian countries.> Emphasizing that women lead the protests,
Zubeyde Zumrut said: <The Kurdish women's movement has a positive impact
on women around the world. International women's organizations want to
learn from our experiences to implement them in their countries. Women
and young people play a leading role in the protests demanding freedom
for Abdullah Ocalan. On February 15, Kurdish young people will hold
marches. Kurdish women will hold and lead protests. We will hold a
demonstration in Cologne with the participation of millions. In
addition, we will hold many activities and conferences.> >>

<<TAJE members: We will strengthen our system
<We will no longer bow to the invaders. We will strengthen our system
and keep realizing our dreams,> said TAJE members Şirin Şengal and Welat
Cano to mark the anniversary of the Shengal Democratic Autonomous
Assembly.
Shangal (Sinjar)- In an interview with NuJINHA, Şirin Şengal and Welat
Cano, members of the Yazidi Free Women's Movement (Kurdish: Tevgera
Azadiya Jinen Ezidi-TAJE), made evaluations to mark 10th anniversary of
the Shengal Democratic Autonomous Assembly. <Before the genocide, we did
not know anything about how we could organize and govern ourselves.
Since the establishment of the Shengal Democratic Autonomous Assembly on
January 14, 2015, we have organized and governed ourselves. Now, we
defend ourselves. We will no longer bow to the invaders and we will
strengthen our system,> said Şirin Şengal.
'We now govern ourselves'
The Yazidi people in Shengal have an autonomous system and protect their
own values, Welat Cano emphasized. <After the liberation of Shengal,
everyone took action and established their organizations in a short
time. Today, our children ensure our safety. Our children receive
education in their mother language. We develop our economy and the
healthcare system provides better service. Our municipalities provide
service to people. Before the genocide, we did not do anything for
ourselves. But now we do not need anyone anymore, we govern ourselves.>
'We should not forget the genocide against us'
Emphasizing that the Yazidis should defend their system in Shengal,
Welat Cano said:
<We should not forget the genocide against us. The whole world just
watched what happened when the genocide was conducted against us. We
have lost many people until now. We should always remember our martyrs.
The attacks on our community have intensified because we managed to take
historical steps in a short time. We should keep realizing our dreams

<<Death toll in Gaza rises to 23,968
At least 23,968 Palestinians have been killed in Israel's attacks on
Gaza since October 7, 2023. Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu
said at a press conference on Saturday that there would be <many more
months> of war ahead.
News Center- At least 23,968 Palestinains have been killed and more than
60,582 injured in the Israeli attacks on Gaza since October 7, said
Palestinian Health Ministry Spokesperson Ashraf Qudra in a statement.
<Children and women account for 70% of the victims,> he added. 337
healthcare workers have been killed and more than 99 healthcare workers
have been held in detention under harsh circumstances, according to the
statement. The Israeli occupation authorities today notified owners of
about 200 facilities, homes, and rooms in the Old City of occupied
Jerusalem of complete or partial demolition. Israeli forces notified
residents in the Old City of their intentions to demolish some homes
completely, and others partially, including rooms, staircases, and any
additions to homes that were done before 2015, reported Palestinian news
agency WAFA.
Five Palestinians, including three children, killed in the West Bank
The Israeli army keeps carrying out attacks on the West Bank. WAFA
reported that 14-year-old Louay Al-Sufi was killed on Sunday by Israeli
forces during a raid on the Ain Sultan refugee camp, north of the city
of Jericho. Ahmed Musa Muhammad Jabareen and Jalal Issa Mohammad
Jabareen were killed on Sunday by Israeli forces near the town of Sa'ir,
northeast of Hebron, according to the Red Crescent Society (RCS).
17-year-old Suleiman Muhammad Kana'an and 16-year-old Khaled Amer
Hmaidat were shot dead on Sunday by the Israeli forces at the northern
entrance to the city of al-Bireh, near Ramallah, according to the
Palestinian Health Ministry.
'The Israeli occupation has turned Gaza into an uninhabitable place'
Palestine's foreign ministry said that in 100 days, “the Israeli
occupation has turned Gaza into an uninhabitable place, and committed
horrific crimes>. The ministry added, <The international community was
'again failing' to implement international resolutions related to the
Palestinian cause.>
'Diseases are spreading'
<Today we mark 100 days of a tragedy,> wrote Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus,
Director-General of the World Health Organization (WHO), on his social
media account. <A massive humanitarian crisis in #Gaza driven by
Israel's military response followed, and is still ongoing. More than
24,000 Gazans killed - 70% women and children; more injured, many
grievously,> he wrote. <Following over 300 attacks on health and
continuous lack of safe access to critical aid, the majority of
hospitals in the Strip have stopped working. The 15 facilities that are
still working can only provide limited health care. Health workers in
Gaza are labouring heroically in shocking conditions. Patients facing
avoidable amputations due to the health system's destruction. Those with
serious chronic conditions are dying due to the lack of care. Diseases
are spreading among a population forced to crowd into ever smaller
spaces, with little clean water or access to sanitation.>
'People in Gaza are living in hell'
<People in Gaza are living in hell. Nowhere is safe. 100 days, and
counting, of incessant insecurity and fear is beyond words. Everything
must be done to end the violence to prevent more needless death and
injury.>

Release all prisoners
Jinha - 15 Jan 2024 - by ROCHELLE JUNIOR
<<Women of Sweida: Release all prisoners
Women of Sweida gathered at the Karama Square of Sweida and demanded all
prisoners be released.
Sweida- The peaceful protests erupted in the Druze majority city of
Sweida over the high inflation rate and deteriorating economic situation
in Syria on August 17, 2023 continue. Yesterday, the protesters gathered
at the Karama Square again.
'Women prisoners are subjected to more rights violations'
A NuJINHA team spoke to several protesters. Basma El Akbani, one of the
women gathered at the square, commented on the rights violations in
prisons. <I know that the situation of prisons in Syria is very bad
because my sons were also held in prison. Prisoners are subjected to
rights violations. Women prisoners are subjected to more rights
violations. We demand the immediate release of all prisoners and a
democratic and free Syria,> she told us.
'We will struggle until we achieve victory'
Taghreed Al-Taweel is one of the protesters, who have been gathered at
the square since the beginning of the protests to demand their rights.
She demands the release of prisoners and the return of displaced people.
<The regime plundered the country's resources and sold them to Russia
and Iran. We will struggle until we achieve victory. We should take to
the streets so that we can overcome fears, get rid of slavery, and
express the truth.>
'We suffer from an oppressive regime'
Dima Ebu İsmail is a student and one of the women, who take to the
streets to voice their demands. <I want to study in a fair country.
Damascus University has a long history but it has become one of the
worst universities during the reign of Bashar al-Assad,> she said. <I
call on all students, especially female students, to take to the streets

<<'The effective implementation of Law-58 can prevent violence against
women'
Yosra Bouafia, head of the Association of FNARA in Tunisia, thinks that
the effective implementation of Tunisia's Law-58 can prevent violence
against women. <We should strengthen the culture of accountability,> she
said.
Tunisia- Yosra Bouafia, head of the Association of FNARA, thinks that
women face problems in accessing justice due to discrimination in the
judiciary.
Recalling the 2023 report released by the Observatory for Defense of
Right to Difference, Yosra Bouafia said, <The report documented 363
cases of discrimination, including 62 cases against people with
disabilities and 86 cases of hatred through social media platforms.
According to the report, there was a 16% increase in gender-based
discrimination in March 2023, a 23% increase in June 2023 and a 27%
increase in October 2023 compared to previous year.>
Violence against women doubled
Yosra Bouafia talked about the psychological effects of verbal and
physical violence on women. <The Ministry of Women announced that
violence against women doubled in 2023 compared to previous years and
that 72 women were killed in 2023.> Emphasizing that most cases of
violence and femicide occur in the northwest of Tunisia, where women
suffer from poverty, Yosra Bouafia said, <Most women living in the
northwest of Tunisia work as agricultural workers and they have no safe
working environment.>
'Our society still refuses that women have rights'
She also commented on the causes of discrimination and violence against
women.
<Our society still refuses that women have rights due to the lack of
awareness and implementation of laws. Tunisia passed Law 58 in 2017 to
tackle domestic violence against women. In 2018, Tunisia passed law 50
on the elimination of all forms of racial discrimination. We have laws
on elimination of gender-based violence and all forms of racial
discrimination; however, these laws are not effectively implemented. The
effective implementation of these laws can prevent gender-based violence
and all forms of discrimination. As a society, we should strengthen the
culture of accountability.> >>

anniversary of Kongra Star to leader Apo (Abdullah Ocalan). We will
maintain our struggle to build a democratic and equal society.>
'Kongra Star is everywhere'
Kongra Star is a space for women, Rihan Loqo emphasized. <We consider
ourselves very lucky to be a party to the works of Kongra Star. We
expand our work every day. Yekitiya Star, which was founded by Kurdish
women, keeps carrying out its works in the name of Kongra Star. When
women face problems, they apply to Kongra Star. Kongra Star is a space
for women to find solutions for their problems, to build a life and to
struggle. We always work everywhere for the unity, education and
organization of women. The women, who made great efforts under the
umbrella of Yekitiya Star from 2005 to 2012, keep making great efforts
under the umbrella of Kongra Star from 2012 to 2024. Today, Kongra Star
has eight offices in different places such as Damascus, Lebanon, the
Kurdistan Region of Iraq and Europe. Kongra Star is everywhere.>
'Women started a revolution within the revolution'
Kongra Star is a great legacy for all women, said Rihan Loqo. <If
Yekitiya Star had not carried out secret activities at homes despite the
oppression of the Baathist regime in 2005, and if it had not been
established at a time when there were attacks on the Kurdish people,
perhaps the women's revolution would not have been as strong as it is
today. Yekitiya Star paved the way for women's organizations to grow day
by day. In North and East Syria, women did not participate in the
revolution; they led the revolution. Thus, women started a revolution
within the revolution. Thanks to Yekitiya Star, Kongra Star can reach
all women today. In addition, women formed their communes and councils.>
'We wanted to break gender stereotypes'
Kongra Star formed committees when women were not allowed to participate
in politics, military and economy. <Now, Kongra Star has 13 committees.
Each committee has a purpose. We formed the committees because we wanted
to break gender stereotypes. Today, women make great efforts in all
facets of life. We have committees such as diplomacy, politics,
self-defense, ecology, health, press, culture and arts, economy, law and
education.>
'Family Law protects women's rights'
The Autonomous Administration of North and East Syria (AANES) enacted
the Family Law on November 10, 2022 to guarantee justice and equality.
<The Family Law was approved by the Peoples' Assembly of the Jazira
Region in 2023. This law is one of the gains of the women's revolution.
Family Law protects women's rights and their identity.>
'Gender-based violence is common in the occupied areas'
Speaking about the role of Mala Jin (Women's Houses) in North and East
Syria, Rihan Loqo said, <When women face problems, they apply to Women's
Houses. The members of Women's Houses listen to both women and men to
solve their problems. However, gender-based violence is common in the
occupied areas such as Afrin, Serekaniye (Ras al-Ayn), Gire Spi (Tell
Abyad) and Jarabulus.> Condemning the silence of the international
community against rights violations committed against women in the
occupied areas of North and East Syria, Rihan Loqo said, <An
international delegation should go to the occupied areas to monitor what
is happening there.>
'We will realize the dreams of our comrades'
Rihan Loqo also commented on the ongoing Turkish attacks on North and
East Syria. <In 2023, the Turkish state carried out attacks on our
region by using its drones, warplanes and heavy weapons. The Turkish
attacks targeted civilian infrastructure. The aim of the Turkish attacks
was to destroy women's gains and the women's revolution. The Turkish
state keeps attacking our region. As Kongra Star, we do not remain
silent against these attacks. We held marches to protest the Turkish
attacks. We vow to follow in the footsteps of our martyrs. We will
always resist gender-based violence, occupation and attacks. We will
realize the dreams of our comrades. We will build a system based on
democracy and equality.> >>

<<Pressures in Şakran Women's Closed Prison increase
Political prisoners held in Şakran Women's Closed Prison have been
subjected to more pressures after the hunger strike started in the
prison.
News Center- On November 27, political prisoners in more than 100
prisons in Turkey initiated a hunger strike demanding <freedom for
Abdullah Ocalan and a resolution to the Kurdish question.> Şakran
Women's Closed Prison in Izmir is one of these prisons. According to the
reports on the situation of hunger strikers, political prisoners in
Şakran Women’s Closed Prison have been subjected to more pressures and
rights violations since the hunger strike started in the prison. The
reports reveal that wardens often raid wards, search wards and
confiscate personal belongings of political prisoners. In a phone call,
Kubra Filiz, one of the political prisoners in the prison, told her
sister Elif Filiz that they were subjected to more rights violations.
'The pressures increased even more'
<My sister went on a 10-day alternating hunger strike. She told me that
the pressures increased even more after they started the hunger strike.
The prison administration uses psychological pressure to intimidate
them,> said Elif Filiz.
'Their demands must be met'
Expressing her concerns about political prisoners, Elif Filiz said,
<Their freedom was taken away from them when they were arrested. They
