Lack of heating materials
Jinha - 2 Feb 2024 - by HADEEL Al-OMAR
<<Lack of heating materials in camps exacerbates suffering of displaced
people
People living in IDPs camps in Idlib have to burn household items and
plastic to keep themselves warm. This situation poses a risk to
displaced people's lives and health. Recently, three children suffocated
to death inside their tent.
Idlib- People living in IDPs camps of Idlib struggle to survive despite
the difficult living conditions. Winter exacerbates the suffering of
displaced people living in tents; they have to burn household items and
plastic to try and keep warm in freezing temperatures. This situation
poses a risk to the displaced people's lives and health.
Three siblings suffocated to death
On December 22, 2023, four siblings were hospitalized in Ahl al-Tah
camp, northern Idlib, due to carbon monoxide poisoning. After treatment
at hospital, they survived. On January 15, three siblings suffocated to
death inside their tent in the Atma IDPs camp. <They died while sleeping
inside the tent,> said 45-year-old Lina Al-Suwaid, one of the relatives
of the children.
'Families burn household items, plastic and coal to keep them warm'
Lina Al-Suwaid emphasized that families could not buy good quality coal
due to financial difficulties. <This situation poses a risk to families.
Families burn household items, plastic, coal and shoes to keep them
warm. Such heating materials cause deaths.>
'Carbon monoxide is the most dangerous gas'
<Carbon monoxide (CO) is the most dangerous gas,> said 38-year-old Maram
Al-Sheikh, one of the healthcare workers. <It is a colorless, odorless
and poisonous gas that cannot be noticed. The use of unhealthy
materials, closed spaces make entry and exit difficult for air and
oxygen. The symptoms of carbon monoxide are headache, weakness,
dizziness, nausea or vomiting, shortness of breath, confusion, blurred
vision and drowsiness. Carbon monoxide can lead to death.>
'Immediately move to a well-ventilated area'
<If people suspect CO poisoning, they should immediately move to a
well-ventilated area,> Maram Al-Sheikh warned. <Then, they should call
an ambulance. Lack of security procedures and awareness also causes
people to die of carbon monoxide poisoning.> >>

WATER
Jinha - 1 Feb 2024
<<'Access to clean water is a matter of life and death'
<Access to clean water is a matter of life and death,> said UNRWA,
emphasizing that for every 2,000 people there is one shower unit, and
500 people for every toilet in Gaza.
News Center- Israel has carried out attacks on Gaza since October 7,
2023. At least 26,900 Palestinians have been killed and 66,000 injured
in Israel's attacks on Gaza since October 7, 2023, the Gaza's health
ministry said in a statement on Wednesday. <In the past 24 hours, 150
Palestinians were killed and 313 injured by the Israeli army>, the
statement said.
Hospitals run out of food
The Gaza Health Ministry said on Wednesday that Nasser and Al-Amal
hospitals have run out of food as the Israeli siege of the Khan Younis
medical centers continues. The injured people and patients are waiting
to die due to the exhaustion of medical supplies and food in both
hospitals, the ministry said.
Israeli troops storm al-Amal Hospital
Al-Amal and Nasser Hospitals have been under siege by Israeli tanks in
Khan Younis for 10 days. The injured, patients and displaced people have
taken shelter in these hospitals. Israeli troops stormed al-Amal
Hospital in Khan Younis and demanded doctors and displaced Palestinians
evacuate, the Palestine Red Crescent Society (PRCS) said. <The hospital
received seven martyrs, including a PRCS employee, and attended to nine
injuries.>
UNRWA: Access to clean water is a matter of life and death
<Access to clean water is a matter of life and death,> The United
Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East
(UNRWA) said Wednesday in a statement on X. <In Gaza, every day is a
struggle to find bread and water. Every day is a struggle to survive.
Without safe water, many more people will die from deprivation and
disease.>
'For every 2,000 people there is one shower unit, and 500 people for
every toilet'
In an interview with The Guardian, Tamara Alrifai, the head of
communications for UNRWA, said, <Our latest figures show that for every
2,000 people there is one shower unit, and 500 people for every toilet.>
Constant crowding, including thousands sharing a few showers and
toilets, has aggravated outbreaks of skin diseases including scabies and
lice, worsened by people being unable to shower.
'The situation is utterly desperate'
<There have now been at least 270 attacks impacting UNRWA facilities
sheltering displaced families, killing 372 people. Because there is
nowhere else to go, people continue to shelter in these same UN
facilities, even after attacks. The situation is utterly desperate,>
UNRWA said on X.
Hostage release deal
On Wednesday, Mossad chief David Barnea presented the war cabinet with a
nine-point outline of the potential hostage release deal that could see
the release of all 136 hostages still held in Gaza in several stages,
Israel's Channel 12 reported. According to Channel 12, the first stage
of the deal is about the release of 35 hostages in exchange for a 35-day
truce, one day of truce per hostage and the first stage of the truce is
about the release of women, sick, injured, and elderly hostages.>>

<<Women of Afrin: Walls will not keep us away from Afrin
The Turkish state has established new borders by digging trenches and
building walls from Serekaniye, Gire Spi, Jarabulus and al-Bab to Afrin.
<Walls will not keep us away from Afrin,> said displaced women of Afrin,
who live in Shahba.
Shahba- The Turkish state and Turkish-backed factions occupied Afrin in
2018, Serekaniye (Ras al-Ayn) and Gire Spi (Tell Abyad) in 2019.
Recently, the Turkish state has established new borders by digging
trenches and building wails from Serekaniye, Gire Spi, Jarabulus and al-Bab
to Afrin.
'Walls will not keep us away from Afrin'
The Turkish occupation in Afrin displaced thousands to Shahba. Displaced
women of Afrin, who live in Shahba react to the establishment of new
borders by the Turkish state. <The aim of the Turkish state is to divide
Syria. We were forcibly displaced from Afrin six years ago and since
then, we have resisted in Shahba. The Turkish state aims to break our
resistance by building new borders; however, walls will not keep us away
from Afrin. Afrin belongs to the people of Afrin, not to Erdogan,> said
Almaz Hiso, one of the displaced women of Afrin.
'They cannot break our resistance by building new borders'
Zeyneb Xelil thinks that the Turkish state has established new borders
in the occupied areas to break the resistance of the Kurdish people.
<But they cannot break our resistance or annihilate us by building new
borders. Afrin will be liberated by our resistance. We will strengthen
our resistance against the walls of Erdoğan. The Syrian government
should take a firm stand against the construction of walls.>
'Our resistance will prevail'
Şerin Ehmed, another displaced woman of Afrin, stated that Erdogan and
his armed factions have no right to establish borders on their lands.
<Human rights organizations should oppose the establishment of borders
by the Turkish state. Afrin belongs to us and it will always belong to
us. The Turkish state is an occupying state. It aims to keep us away
from Afrin by building walls; however, Erdogan's dreams will never be
realized. One day, our resistance will prevail and we will return to
Afrin.> >>

<<YAT Commander Çavre Kobane: Al-Hol camp poses a threat to the whole
world
<Al-Hol Camp poses a threat to the whole world,> YAT Commander Çavrê
Kobanê said in an interview with NuJINHA about the third phase of
Operation Humanity and Security against ISIS in al-Hol camp.
Hasakah- On January 27, the General Command of Internal Security Forces
in North and East Syria Region announced that they launched the third
phase of Operation Humanity and Security against ISIS sleeper cells and
the people supporting the activities of ISIS in the al-Hol camp with the
support of the Women's Defense Units (YPJ) and the Syrian Democratic
Forces (SDF). The searches in the Muhajirat section of the camp ended on
the third day of the operation. The security forces seized flags of
ISIS, weapons, mines, many other ammunition and uniforms of the members
of the Ashbal Al-Xilaf (ISIS's brigade of boys aged between 13 and 14).
The member of the Anti-Terror Units (Kurdish: Yekineyen Anti Teror, YAT),
the special forces of the Syrian Democratic Forces, consisting of the
best trained and equipped members of the People's Defense Units (YPG)
and Women's Defense Units (YPJ), have also joined the operation.
In an interview with NuJINHA, YAT Commander Çavre Kobane spoke about the
third phase of the operation launched on January 27 in the camp.
'Al-Hol camp poses a threat to the whole world'
<Female members of ISIS in the camp have formed a children's brigade to
revive ISIS. They use the new generation to revive ISIS. The camp has
become the ideological academy of extremist ideas. It poses a threat to
the whole world and urgent steps must be taken to avert the resurgence
of ISIS,> said Çavre Kobane.
'Many military equipment and torture devices were seized'
In the first three days of the operation, the security forces seized
many military equipment and torture devices used by ISIS, Çavre Kobane
said, <We seized many explosives such as bombs and mines and torture
devices such as iron chains and iron swords that had been used to
torture women. During the searches in the Muhajirat section, the
children made menacing gestures with their hands meaning they would
behead us. These children are now like this, what will they be like
tomorrow? We also found many tunnels. The women, who want to support
ISIS, are captured, tortured and killed by radical female members of
ISIS. Recently, two sisters were killed in the section because they did
not cover their hair properly.'
'The operation is led by the YPJ'
The third phase of the operation continues in the camp. <We will close
down the places where women were killed,> Çavre Kobane said, <The
operation is led by the YPJ in order to reduce the threat posed by ISIS
members to our cities and the world.>

<<Final declaration of Yazidi womens conference
The final declaration of the Yazidi women's conference at the European
Parliament has been released. The declaration calls for investigation
into countries, where Yazidi women and children were trafficked.
News Center- A conference of Yazidi women took place at the European
Parliament in Brussels on January 30, 2024. At the conference, Yazidi
women discussed the genocidal attacks against the Yazidi community, the
genocide commited by ISIS against the Yazidi community in Shengal (Sinjar)
in 2014, the building of an autonomous administration in Shengal, the
returns to Shengal and the ongoing attacks on Shengal. At the
conference, Yazidi women demanded the United Nations and the
International Criminal Court (ICC) to take action and the official
recognition of the tragedy experienced by the Yazidi as a genocide. The
final declaration of the conference has been released. <International
efforts are a must to rescue thousands of Yazidi women and children held
captive by ISIS. The safe return of the Yazidis, who were forced to

The declaration called on the Kurdistan Democratic Party (KDP or PDK) to
stop preventing the Yazidis from returning to Shengal, <We call on all
international powers to support the compensation of war damages, the
clearing of mines planted by ISIS and armed groups and the
reconstruction of Shengal.> In the declaration, the Yazidi women
demanded an investigation be launched into countries, especially Turkey
that support ISIS. <The ongoing impunity is not only a shame but also
paves the way for new genocidal attacks. <We congratulate the countries
that have recognized the genocide of Yazidis by ISIS and call them to
stop the attacks of the Turkish state and we call on the United Nations
and the European Parliament to investigate the crimes committed against
the Yazidis in 2014 and prosecute those responsible for the genocide of
Yazidis.>
The declaration also called on the UN, the Iraqi government and the
European Parliament to cancel the agreement signed by the Turkish state,
KDP, and the Iraqi government on October 9, 2020, seeing it as a
continuation of genocide and femicide and to seek a solution with the
Yazidi organizations and institutions in Shengal. <We call on the UN
Women and the UN Commission on the Status of Women to conduct an
investigation into the countries where Yazidi women and children were
trafficked and to declare August 3 as an international day against
femicide. We call on the countries that have already recognize the
genocide against Yazidis to ensure the right of the Yazidis to
self-determination within the borders of Iraq.> The declaration also
called on UNESCO to add the cultural and historical remains of the
Yazidis to the world heritage list. <Yazidism should be officially
