<<Syrian Kurdish forces agree US-brokered ceasefire to protect civilians in Manbij
The Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) and Turkish-backed mercenaries have reached a US-brokered ceasefire in Manbij (Minbic), aimed at halting clashes and protecting civilians in the strategically critical northern Syrian town. A ceasefire agreement has been reached between the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) and Turkish-backed jihadist groups in the northern Syrian town of Manbij (Minbic), SDF General Commander Mazloum Abdi announced on Wednesday. The US-brokered deal aims to halt ongoing clashes that have endangered civilians and maintain stability in the embattled region. "As our fighters in Manbij continue to resist attacks from west of the Euphrates, we have reached a ceasefire agreement [...] to ensure the safety of civilians," Abdi said. Fighters from Manbij Military Council, a local security force aligned to the SDF who have been resisting attacks in the town since 27 November, would withdraw from the area as part of the agreement, he added. The US's mediation role illustrates the strength of the allegiance between the SDF and US forces in the region. Under Abdi's leadership, the SDF has played a pivotal role in the fight against ISIS, working closely with the US-led Global Coalition to Defeat ISIS. US Secretary of State Antony Blinken is due to travel to Turkey later this week to discuss the situation in Syria, including a possible broader agreement to halt the fighting. The visit underlines Washington's continued diplomatic engagement in the conflict. Just hours before the ceasefire was announced, General Erik Kurilla, the top US commander in the Middle East, visited US troops and SDF personnel in Syria. The US military reported that Kurilla was seeking a ‘first-hand assessment’ of force protection measures on the ground and efforts to prevent a resurgence of ISIS amid the instability. The ceasefire comes after days of intense clashes in Manbij, a strategically important area in northern Syria. The SDF has previously come under pressure from both Turkey and Turkish-backed militants seeking to limit Kurdish influence along their borders. The newly announced agreement suggests a desire by all parties, backed by US diplomacy, to avoid further escalation and potential civilian harm. The announcement also follows soon after statements put out by US Defence secretary Lloyd Austin and Senator Lindsey Graham on X, formerly Twitter, voicing serious concerns about Turkey's military activities in northern Syria. US officials have repeatedly stressed the importance of maintaining pressure on ISIS remnants in Syria, to ensure extremist groups do not exploit local unrest. While the ceasefire is currently focused on Manbij, both Syrian Kurdish leaders and US diplomats have expressed hope that the agreement could pave the way for a broader political solution.
The immediate concern will be to ensure that all parties abide by the terms of the ceasefire. With Secretary Blinken’s planned visit to Turkey, further negotiations and possible additional agreements relating to the wider Syrian territory may be on the horizon.>>

<<French parties reiterate their support for Kurds after fall of Syrian regime
Several French politicians and parties have commented on the recent fall of the Syrian Assad regime and called for international support for the Kurdish people, as the Turkish Army and Turkish-backed mercenaries escalate attacks on areas governed by the Autonomous Administration of North and East Syria (AANES). French politicians and parties have commented on the recent fall of the Syrian regime, highlighting the potential risks this could bring for the Kurdish people living in the country. They reiterated their support for Rojava, the region governed by the Autonomous Administration of North and East Syria (AANES), and called for sovereignty for Syria. The left-wing party La France Insoumise, founded by Jean-Luc Mélenchon, issued a statement calling for a cautious assessment of the coalition of fighters who defeated Assad, because of the earlier links between "their leader and al-Qaeda". They praised the government of Rojava (North and East Syria) as a model of cooperation between different peoples and ethnicities, adding that it "must be protected from repeated threats and attacks from Turkey". Olivier Besancenot, a prominent French political activist and a spokesperson for the New Anticapitalist Party (Nouveau Parti Anticapitaliste, NPA) said that he stands in solidarity with the Syrian people "after the fall of the tyrant Assad" and highlighted the need for international support for the "emancipatory project of the Kurdish forces", referring to the AANES. French Communist Party General Secretary Fabien Roussel said in a post on X that "war is spreading in the Middle East", adding, "The peace and security of the Syrian people and that of the Kurdish people under threat must be guaranteed." The party shared a statement entitled Only Syrians can decide the future of Syria, expressing solidarity with the Kurdish-led Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF). They also affirmed their solidarity with all Kurds in Syria, saying that they are "under threat more than ever" now and that "their right to democratic sovereignity and to live in peace must be recognised". Commenting on the fall of the Syrian regime under Bashar al-Assad, the French Left Party stressed that "the Syrian people must regain their sovereignty". They also said that "Rojava can serve as an example," explaining that the AANES's social model of democratic confederalism enables "different ethnic groups and communities" to live together under "very difficult circumstances".>>

<<Refugees start to return, what will they find? Syria's new future starts now
Refugees, asylum seekers, Syrians in exil: the return to Syria begins with people who have given up on returning now back on their home soil.
Syria after Assad starts to take shape this Tuesday December 10, with a people still trying to come to terms with the end of the Assad regime that has ruled for over 50 years. Europe starts to close its doors: states that have welcomed Syrian refugees are now stopping processing asylum requests. But does the end of the Assad regime mean it's safe to go back? The world watches and other states are calculating their stance as a new Syria starts to emerge.>>

Sema Begdaş
Jinha - Womens News Agency - December 11, 2024 - by EBIR MUHEMED
<<PYD Spokesperson: We are ready for a dialogue to build a democratic Syria
We are ready for a dialogue to build a democratic Syria, said PYD Spokesperson Sema Begdaş. "The future of Syria must be determined by the people of Syria."
Qamishlo (Qamishli)- In an interview with NuJINHA, Sema Begdaş, Spokesperson of the Democratic Union Party (PYD) commented on the recent developments in Syria, the collapse of the Bashar Assad's regime, the attacks started by the Turkish state and Turkish-backed armed groups on November 27, the massacres being committed in northeastern Syria and steps to be taken for a new Syria. The whole world follows the recent developments in Syria, said Sema Begdaş, "A new process started in Syria following the attacks on Aleppo on November 27. The attacks launched by Hay'at Tahrir al-Sham (Al-Nusra) is not only a plan initiated by these armed groups but an international plan to change Syria. You know, the Middle East has been witnessing a new wave of change and transformation. Syria is also a part of the Middle East and affected by this process because the Bashar Assad regime has collapsed."
'Russia and Iran kept the regime in power'
Russia and Iran can no longer protect Assad's regime due to their own interests, indicated Sema Begdaş. "The whole world wonders what will happen in Syria after the fall of the regime. The main supporters of this regime were Iran and Russia. The war in Ukraine also paved the way for the fall of Assad's regime. Russia and Iran kept the regime in power in the last 13 years."
'Everyone knows the roots of this armed group'
Sema Begdaş pointed to the bloody past of Hay'at Tahrir al-Sham (HTS) and said: "There are many comments about why this armed group is used in Syria. There are efforts to improve the image of Hay'at Tahrir al-Sham. HTS claims that they have no problems with the people of Syria; however, everyone knows the roots of this armed group. What happened in Iraq, Syria and Shengal (Sinjar) and the reality of this armed group are obvious."
'The regime missed the opportunities for building a democratic Syria'
The political and diplomatic efforts have now begun to move Syria into a transition process in accordance with the UN Security Council Resolution 2254, Sema Begdaş told NuJINHA. "There are efforts but how these efforts will be concluded is unknown. Yes, the regime has fallen but we cannot say that security will be built immediately. We have been expelling the regime out of North and East Syria for a long time. The people of the region, of course, felt happy for the fall of the regime because they had been oppressed by the regime for so many years. The regime missed the opportunities for building a democratic Syria in the last 13 years."
Call on the people of Syria to unite
Sema Begdaş called on all people of Syria, particularly the people of North and East Syria to "unite against the attacks" and concluded her speech as follows: "Together, we can put our signature under important successes to build an equal life in Syria. We have to protect our gains and we must be aware of plans against us. The people of the region should allow their region to be occupied. Since the start of the revolution in Rojava, we, as the PYD, have been ready for dialogue to build a democratic Syria and we are ready now as well. We have 12 years of experience and believe that the future of Syria must be determined by the people of Syria. Along with the guarantor states, we can build a democratic country for all people of Syria. The new process creates hope that a new democratic system will be established in Syria." >>

<<'The end of imperialist war policies is a must to ensure freedom'
Sanem Deniz Kural, member of the Labourist Movement Party Central Committee, commented on the recent attacks on Syria and said, "The AKP government must stop supporting jihadist groups."
Istanbul- Hay'at Tahrir al-Sham (HTS), a Turkish-backed faction, started attacking Aleppo, Hama and Homs on November 27 and took control of Damascus on December 8. Meanwhile, the attacks of Türkiye and Turkiye-backed armed groups on North and East Syria continue, sparking a reaction among left socialist groups in Turkiye while new developments have been taking place across Syria. In an interview with NuJINHA, Sanem Deniz Kural, member of the Labourist Movement Party (Turkish: Emekçi Hareket Partisi,EHP) Central Committee, criticized the AKP government for describing the armed groups as "the true children of Aleppo". "The AKP plans to support the armed groups in Syria to strengthen its position in Syria and become a regional power," Sanem Deniz Kural said. "The developments in Aleppo pose a threat to the existence of the Kurdish people and other ethnic groups in Syria. The attacks on Aleppo started after NATO had a meeting with the Turkish government. This shows that Turkiye is an ally of the U.S. and Israel, the architects of the endless war in the region."
'The AKP must stop supporting jihadist groups'
The AKP government must stop supporting jihadist groups such as ISIS, Al-Nusra Front and the HTS, Sanem Deniz Kural stressed, saying that the recent attacks in Syria cause a new displacement wave. "The end of imperialist war policies is a must to ensure freedom for women, children and all oppressed groups as well as all people in the Middle East. It should not be forgotten that wars and armed conflict have a devastating effect on the lives of women and girls. The dominant powers in the region act according to their own interests while the people of Syria are attacked and killed. The imperialist powers must immediately withdraw from the region so that people have a fraternal life."
'We will keep struggling'
The Labourist Movement Party defends full equality and full fraternity for the people in Syria, Sanem Deniz Kural indicated, adding: "We will keep struggling in a democratic way and defending the fraternity of people to end the attacks that can pave the way for new massacres in Syria." >>

Raqqa mobilize for displaced families
Jinha - Womens News Agency - December 6, 2024 - by SIBELIA AL-IBRAHIM
<<People of Raqqa mobilize for displaced families
55 public schools in Raqqa have been turned into shelters for families displaced from Aleppo, Shahba and Til Rifat by the attacks of Turkish-backed factions. The people and organizations in Raqqa have mobilized for the displaced families.
Raqqa- The Raqqa canton of North and East Syria hosts tens of thousands of people forcibly displaced from Aleppo, Shahba and Til Rifat due to the attacks launched by the Turkish state and Turkish-backed factions on November 27, 2024. The Autonomous Administration of North and East Syria (AANES) established a humanitarian corridor for the people of Shahba, Aleppo and Til Rifat to protect them from potential massacres and a crisis desk. The crisis desk has turned 55 public schools in Raqqa and its countryside into shelters for the families displaced from Aleppo, Shahba and Til Rifat.
'We have been displaced multiple times'
"It's like I'm in a dream, a bad nightmare," said Adla Jadil, one woman displaced from Aleppo to the Raqqa canton. "I did not expect such an attack. The Turkish state uses armed groups for its own interests. The Syrian people will unite to build a safe, stable and free life. We have been displaced multiple times since the beginning of the Syrian crisis."
Many missile attacks
"We had to leave Shahba to protect our children and families from many missile attacks," said Farah Süleyman, a displaced woman from Shahba. Kadifa Salih Nabu and her family were displaced from Afrin to Shahba in 2018 due to the Turkish invasion attacks. "The attacks of the Turkish state and Turkish-backed factions forced us to leave Shahba. At first, the armed factions did not allow us to cross the safe areas of North and East Syria. After agreements, they allowed us."
More than 10,000 people from Aleppo take shelter in Raqqa
The Education Committee of Raqqa began to turn schools into shelters for the displaced people from Aleppo, Shahba and Til Temir upon the call for public mobilization by the AANES. "We worked very hard to turn the schools into shelters for the displaced people," said Zulekha Abdi, Co-chair of the Education Committee of Raqqa. "We worked coordinately with the municipality and the relevant authorities to prevent water and power outages in schools. There are no statistics on the number of people who have already arrived in the city of Raqqa; however, the number of the people fleeing from Aleppo to Raqqa is more than 10,000. 48,000 students were receiving education in 55 schools, including three in the Al-Kasraat area consisting of a group of villages. Education in these schools has been suspended."
'People are in solidarity with the displaced people'
The Planning and Statistics Office of Raqqa will form teams to count the number of the people fleeing from Aleppo, Shahba and Til Temir to Raqqa. "We need statistics to learn the number of patients suffering from cancer, diabetes, blood pressure and many other diseases. The Kurdish, Assyrian, Arab, Circassian and Turkmen people living in Syria have united to be in solidarity with the displaced people."
'The Turkish state aims to revive the Ottoman Empire'
All political parties in North and East Syria also mobilize to support the displaced people. The Democratic Union Party (PYD) is one of them. "We work hard to meet the basic needs of the displaced families," said Fayrouz Xelil, Co-chair of the PYD in Raqqa. "We are always at the Municipal Stadium to place the displaced families in schools. The Turkish state aims to revive the Ottoman Empire by attacking the people uniting around the system established by the AANES." >>

Women of Hasakah
Jinha - Womens News Agency - December 6, 2024 - RONIDA HACI
<<Women of Hasakah: Now is the time to protect our gains
"Now is the time to protect our gains and defend the revolution," said women of Hasakah, condemning the recent attacks of the Turkish state and Turkish-backed factions on North and East Syria.
Hasakah- On Sunday, the Autonomous Administration of North and East Syria (AANES) declared a general mobilization in response to the attacks of Turkish-backed factions on Shahba/Afrin canton of North and East Syria. Following the declaration, women of Hasakah took to the streets to defend their neighborhoods.
'Defending the revolution is a conscientious duty'
"The Turkish forces and Turkish-backed factions have been carrying out attacks on North and East Syria while our defense forces and people have been displaying a historic resistance in Shahba, Aleppo and Sheikh Maqsoud," said Nisrin Sileman, a resident of Hasakah's Mufti neighborhood. "We have been going through a very sensitive process and we cannot have a peaceful life in such a sensitive process. We are amid wars and we have to position ourselves for self-defense. The revolution in Rojava led by women brought great gains and now is the time to protect these gains. Defending the revolution is a conscientious duty for us, the women of Hasakah."
'We believe in our own power'
Pointing to the role of the international forces in the attacks, she said, "We are aware of all the plans against us. Therefore, we do not expect any state to protect or save us. We believe in our own power and will. We rebuilt Kobane and Aleppo and we will resist and rebuild them again."
Call on the Kurdish people to rise up
Hediya Mihemed, another woman of Hasakah, called on the Kurdish people to rise up against the recent attacks on North and East Syria. "We must heed the call for public mobilization in order to respond to war policies. A dirty war has been waged against our existence, our organization, our philosophy. All states unite and make plans against our cause. All people must defend their houses, neighborhoods, cities and country to respond to these plans. The Kurdish people must rise up and unite everywhere. The women of Haskah defeated ISIS and we will defend our revolution. We are ready to do anything to defend our people and homeland." >>
