Hajar Kamal
Jinha - Womens News Agency - December 12, 2024 - (video)
<<Egyptian journalist: Women have an important role in ending current
wars and conflicts
Egyptian journalist Hajar Kamal says women have an important role in
ending current wars and conflicts suffered by many countries for five
years, calling on women's organizations to discuss the effects of wars
on women.
Cairo- Women and children are the most vulnerable in times of armed
conflict and wars in the Gaza Strip, Lebanon, Syria and other countries.
They face displacement, rights violations and attacks. Egyptian
journalist Hajar Kamal drew attention to the effects of wars, especially
on women, and emphasized that wars and conflicts "affect everyone,
undermine human rights but women are the most affected as they are
subjected to financial, psychological and many other burdens." In times
of armed conflict and wars, women face many challenges, she added. "They
have to cope with many challenges such as finding shelter, medicine,
water, clothing, daily supplies and food."
'Women in Syria experience never-ending pain'
The fall of the Syrian regime has changed the equation, Hajar Kamal said,
"Women in Syria experience never-ending pain; they suffer from the loss
of their loved ones in prisons and many conflict burdens and rights
violations. The stabilizing of Syria will take time. Women have paid a
heavy price due to Syria's instability. The Syrian crisis affects not
only Syria but also neighboring countries."
'Women's organizations must take responsibility'
Hajar Kamal pointed to the important role of women in change, calling on
women all around the world to unite in order to make a change. "They are
capable of doing so because they play an important role in the private
and public spheres," she said, calling on "NGOs, especially women's
organizations to take responsibility for the recent developments and the
effects of wars and conflicts on women."
'Women have an important role in ending current wars and conflicts'
Hajar Kamal thinks that protests can bring the wars and conflicts
suffered by many countries to the agenda. "An Arabic proverb says, 'I
was devoured the day the white bull was eaten'. The situation in Syria,
Gaza, Lebanon and other countries has become extremely critical,
affecting the whole world. Radical solutions are needed to end wars and
conflicts suffered by many countries. I think raising awareness is
extremely important and women have an important role in ending current
wars and conflicts. Women's movements and organizations and women should
unite to end wars and conflicts." >>

The 8th Zagros Theatre Festival for Persons with Disabilities was held
in Kermanshah from December 6 to December 9, 2024 with the participation
of many theatre groups of people with disabilities.
Kermanshah- The 8th Zagros Theatre Festival for Persons with
Disabilities was held in Kermanshah from December 6 to December 9, 2024
with the participation of many theatre groups of people with
disabilities. Five theatre groups participated in the festival from
Kermanshah, four from Sanandaj, three from Ilam and two groups from
Hamadan and Lorestan. On December 10, the groups and artists were
honored at the festival's closing ceremony. A number of people with
disabilities attended the festival. As part of the festival, workshops
and seminars were held. Soudabeh Glenma, member of a theatre group
having taken the stage at the festival, told NuJINHA that all the
members of the group are people with disabilities. "I am 28 years old. I
have been a member of this group for about two years. All the members of
our group are people with disabilities. Our theatre play is about a
couple who decide to immigrate to the U.S. However, they face a series
of problems whenever they try to go to the U.S. Then, they give up
leaving their country."
'We want to be visible in society'
"We want to be visible in society," said Zanyar Khairabadi, another
theatre artist. "I have gotten involved in theatre since 2008. As the
artists with disabilities, we want to be visible in society. We know
that we have some disabilities but these do not prevent us from being
active in society. Our society must understand that this is our reality.
People should support us so that we can continue our activities." >>

<<Turkiye: 6 women journalists detained in November
In November, six women journalists were detained and 38 others stood
trial in Turkiye, according to a report released by the Mesopotamia
Women Journalists' Associations.
News Center- The Mesopotamia Women Journalists' Association (Turkish:
Mezopotamya Kadın Gazeteciler Derneği, MKG) has released its November
2024 report on rights violations against women journalists in Turkiye.
Pointing to the ongoing crackdown on women journalists in the country,
the report said, "Women journalists face not only the violations of
freedom of expression but also gender-based discrimination, violence and
threats while doing journalism. Such practices pose a threat to the
right to freedom of expression and the right of access to information."
'Journalists cannot be silenced'
In November, more women journalists faced detention, house raids
threats, ill-treatment and censorship. "In Adıyaman, the house of
Jinnews reporter Derya Ren was raided twice. In Batman, Jinnews reporter
Pelşin Çetinkaya was subjected to police violence while covering a
protest. In Istanbul, journalist Hilal Köylü was forced to stop doing

"On November 27, Roza Metina, president of the Mesopotamia Women
Journalists' Association, journalists Tugçe Yılmaz, Suzan Demir, Havin
Derya, Berfin Atlı and Serap Güneş were detained in the house raids. The
detention operations against journalists are an attack on women
journalists' struggle to exist in social life. As the Mesopotamia Women
Journalists' Association, we emphasize once again that we stand with
journalists who resist oppression. We call on everyone to stand with
women journalists and the free press. Journalists cannot be silenced."

Rights achieved by women
Jinha - Womens News Agency - December 6, 2024
<<EŞIK: Rights achieved by women through a long-running struggle have
been eroded in the last 22 years
Although women in Turkiye gained the right to vote and stand for
election in 1934, no woman has been elected as a member of parliament in
17 cities.
News Center- The Women's Platform for Equality (Eşitlik için Kadın
Platformu, EŞİK) has released a written statement on Friday to mark the
90th anniversary of the recognition of women's rights to vote and to
stand for election in Turkiye. On December 5, 1934, women gained the
right to vote and stand for election in Turkiye, women still face
obstacles in politics, the statement stressed. "After women were granted
the right to vote and stand for election in 1934, 17 women entered the
parliament in the general elections in 1937, making Turkiye second in
national parliaments having the highest women’s representation."
In 2023, women's participation in parliament in Turkiye was 19.9
percent.
No woman has been elected as a Member of Parliament in 17 cities,
including Semsur (Adıyaman), Bayburt, Rize, Sinop and Yozgat, since
1934, according to the statement. "Although women in Turkiye gained the
right to vote and stand for election in 1934, no woman has been elected
as a member of parliament in 17 cities. This shows the challenges faced
by women in politics. The rights achieved by women through a
long-running struggle have been eroded in the last 22 years," EŞİK said
in the statement, demanding a 50% quota for women in elections and all
decision-making positions to have a secular and democratic country.
'We will protect our rights and dreams'
Underlining that nothing can stop women's struggle for equality, the
platform said that they would keep protecting their rights and dreams,
calling on everyone to support this struggle.>>

Rural women in Tunisia
Jinha - Womens News Agency - December 6, 2024 - by IKHLAS HAMROUNI
<<Rural women in Tunisia use traditional practices to protect
environment
Women living in rural areas in the northwest and south of Tunisia use
traditional practices in agriculture to protect the environment.
Tunisia-Throughout history, women have made great efforts to protect the
environment by using traditional practices in agriculture. Women living
in rural areas in the northwest and south of Tunisia play an important
role in the management of natural resources, including soil, water,
forests and energy, away from all the complexities of cities and
cutting-edge technologies. Jawida Mahmoudi, an environmental activist
and trainer at the Center Agricultural Training of Sidi Bouzid, has
sufficient experience and knowledge on sustainable development and
climate change since she took many entrepreneurship and agriculture
courses on irrigation and water resources. She thinks that the increase
in temperature and ongoing droughts caused by climate change have
increased women's responsibilities.
'Women have a strong bond with nature'
"The living conditions of rural and urban women are different. The rural
women are mostly deprived of their rights to education and work. They
face barriers in achieving their goals," said Jawida Mahmoudi. "Although
they do not have sufficient knowledge of the importance of preserving
the environment and sustainable development, they have a strong bond
with nature. They achieve food security through agricultural activities
such as planting vegetables and trees. They live in harmony with nature
through their simple daily activities."
'They protect the environment'
Rural women grow grains, vegetables, and fruits without using pesticides
or artificial fertilizers, Jawida Mahmoudi stressed. "Thus, they protect
the environment and improve soil fertility for the next generations.
They do not use any technological tools or vehicles in agriculture and
reduce carbon dioxide. They reduce the need for natural gas and oil by
using agricultural waste such as firewood and animal feces for cooking
and heating. Through traditional practices, they play a leading role in
reducing environmental pollution and preserving the beauty of their
surroundings."
'To leave a clean environment for future generations'
Mubarak Ani, one woman living in one of the rural areas of Tunisia's
Sidi Bouzid Governorate, thinks the role of women in protecting the
environment is important. "A few days later, the olive harvest season
will start. After harvesting olives, we will cut the tree branches and
dry them in the sun. We use them for cooking and heating in winter.
Since we raise livestock, we use animal dung as a natural fertilizer. We
make clothes from their wool. We depend on nature so we do not pollute
the environment. We protect the environment to leave a clean environment
for future generations." >>

CPJ - December 5, 2024
<<Taliban detain 7 Arezo TV journalists, seal network’s offices in Kabul
New York, December 5, 2024-Dozens of Taliban agents from the General
Directorate of Intelligence (GDI) raided the offices of private
broadcaster Arezo TV on December 4 in the capital, Kabul, questioned
staff members for four hours, and detained seven journalists and media
workers. Woman journalists were expelled from the premises, and the
network’s offices were sealed, according to a journalist familiar with
the situation in Kabul, who spoke to CPJ anonymously, citing fear of
reprisal. "The raid on Arezo TV and expulsion of its women journalists
shows the Taliban's troubling commitment to cracking down on Afghan
independent media, as it works to silence free voices and restrict the
public's access to information," said CPJ Asia Program Coordinator Beh
Lih Yi. "The Taliban must immediately and unconditionally release the
seven detained journalists and media workers and permit the channel to
resume broadcasting without further interference." The journalist told
CPJ that the Taliban accused Arezo TV journalists during the raid of
collaborating with and reporting for exiled media outlets operating
outside Afghanistan. The current whereabouts of the detained journalists
remain unknown. Saif ul Islam Khyber, a spokesperson for the Ministry
for the Promotion of Virtue and Prevention of Vice, told media in an
audio message that the group sealed Arezo TV's offices to uphold
"Islamic values, prevent misuse of media outlets, and strengthen social
order."
Khyber said Arezo TV was involved in dubbing foreign soap operas,
purportedly with the backing of exiled media organizations.>>
