Torture at israeli prisons
Quds news - Jan 12, 2026
{New Testemonies by Freed Palestinian Hostages Describe Israeli Prisons
as “Graves for the Living”
Newly released Palestinian hostages have shared testimonies detailing
severe abuse, torture, and degrading conditions inside Israeli prisons,
describing the facilities as “graves for the living” as emotional
reunions unfolded in Gaza.
Gaza (QNN)- Newly released Palestinian hostages told Al Jazeera that
Israeli prisons subject prisoners to horrific conditions, describing the
detention centers as “graves for the living.” Their testimonies emerged
as groups of released hostages arrived at Shuhada' Al-Aqsa Hospital in
Deir al-Balah, in central Gaza, where emotional scenes of tears and long
embraces unfolded between former hostages and their families. One freed
hostage said he spent three months in Sde Teiman detention camp in the
Negev, but the period felt like decades because of the torture he
endured. He said he witnessed many forms of abuse inside the prison.
During the interview, he opened his mouth to show several missing and
broken teeth, which resulted from beatings by Israeli guards. Another
freed hostage, Ghith Aliyan Mohammad Abu Aoun, said he works as a
fisherman and that Israeli forces kidnapped him in March while he and
his colleagues were attempting to fish at sea. He said conditions inside
Israeli prisons are extremely harsh and continue to deteriorate. Former
female hostage Reem Abu Jazar, from the West Bank, said Israeli
authorities deported her to Gaza, forcing her to leave behind her sick
daughter and ill husband in Ramallah. She said Israeli forces detained
her in December at a crossing, accusing her of possessing a knife and
affiliating with Hamas. Abu Jazar said Israeli authorities denied her
access to a lawyer and never brought her before a court. She said guards
subjected her to strip searches, interrogated her during the night, and
deprived her of sleep. She added that the 20 days she spent in detention
felt like years due to constant humiliation and beatings by both male
and female guards, along with continuous surveillance by cameras. She
also revealed that Israeli prisons hold a large number of detained
little girls who were kidnapped over social media posts related to Gaza
during the genocide. She said these girls suffer severely inside
detention centers. Abu Jazar said female detainees face degrading
treatment, verbal abuse, and physical assault, adding that denial of
food and water becomes minor compared to the daily humiliation. She
explained that many women are held under administrative detention
without formal charges, with Israeli authorities renewing detention
orders every six months. She called on the international community to
pressure Israel to release abducted children held in Damon Prison. She
described the facility as “the largest prison of torture” and once again
referred to Israeli prisons as “graves for the living.”} Video - Source:

{Israeli Judo Team Disqualified in Poland After Coach Attacks Referee
The Israeli judo team was disqualified in Bielsko-Biała after their
coach attacked the referee, yet Israeli authorities portrayed the minor
athletes as victims, even though video evidence clearly shows the coach
was the only one acting violently.
Bielsko-Biala (QNN)- The Israeli judo team was disqualified from a
tournament in Bielsko-Biała, Poland, after their coach physically
attacked opponents and the referee. Video footage shows the coach’s
violent behavior, prompting organizers to expel the entire delegation.
The tournament was livestreamed, and no evidence has emerged showing any
violence against the Israeli minors. Bielsko-Biała’s website reported
that the Israeli coach became aggressive after disagreeing with a
referee’s decision. The coach shouted insults, entered the competition
ring, and “violated the physical integrity of the referee.” Police were
called, and the team was officially disqualified. Tomasz Chmielniak,
president of the Janosik Club in Bielsko, told TVN24: “Young Israeli
players were certainly not attacked. If someone was attacked, it was the
person refereeing (…) by a coach from Israel.” Bielsko police spokesman
Lt. Cmdr. Sławomir Kocur confirmed that the coach made "physical
contact". “We asked the parties (…) and informed them about the
possibility of filing a report. None of them did. The parties calmed
down, and no one had any complaints against anyone,” he said. Despite
this, the Israeli embassy in Poland issued a statement, claiming that
the Israeli team “was attacked verbally and physically” during the
competition. The embassy called for Polish authorities to investigate
and ensure the safety of Israeli athletes.} Video - Source: https://qudsnen.co/post?id=67050&slug=israeli-judo-team-disqualified-in-poland-after-coach-attacks-referee

Videoscreen grab: Israeli quadcopter kills
Al Jazeera - Jan 12, 2026
{Israeli quadcopter kills three in Gaza’s Khan Younis; police chief
slain
Despite a ceasefire that began on October 10, the Israeli army continues
daily attacks on the enclave. Three Palestinians have been killed in the
southern Gaza Strip in Israel’s latest violation of October’s ceasefire
in its genocidal war on the besieged enclave, according to sources in
Gaza, as an anti-Hamas militia has claimed an attack that has killed a
senior security officer. An Israeli quadcopter drone struck down three
Palestinians in Khan Younis on Monday, the sources told Al Jazeera.
According to the sources, a Palestinian woman was also wounded by
Israeli gunfire in the al-Batn al-Sameen area of Khan Younis. The
attacks came after Israeli army forces carried out air strikes and
shelling across several parts of the enclave on Monday. The three people
killed were identified as Wissam Abdullah Salem al-Amour, Mahmoud Subhi
Breika and Atef Samir al-Bayouk, the Palestinian news agency Wafa
reported. The Israeli army has killed more than 71,400 people, mostly
women and children, and injured over 171,000 in its war, which began in
October 2023. It has left the enclave in ruins with its homes,
hospitals, schools and civilian infrastructure decimated. Despite a
ceasefire that began on October 10, the Israeli army has continued its
attacks, killing more than 440 Palestinians and wounding over 1,200
since then, according to Gaza’s Ministry of Health. Israel has violated
the ceasefire at least 1,193 times from October 10 to Friday through the
continuation of attacks by air, artillery and gunfire, the Government
Media Office in Gaza said.
Police chief killed
The Gaza Ministry of Interior said the police chief of Khan Younis,
Lieutenant Colonel Mahmoud Al-Astal, was killed by gunfire from a car
that fled the scene in the al-Mawasi area along Gaza’s coast, west of
Khan Younis. The ministry said Al-Astal’s killing was carried out by
“agents of the occupation”. Security services have opened an
investigation into the assassination and are working to track down the
perpetrators, who are likely to be in an anti-Hamas militia working with
the Israeli military, the ministry suggested. The 40-year-old was killed
in “a shooting carried out from a vehicle occupied by several agents” of
Israel who fled the scene, a statement by the ministry said. A militia
leader active in areas under Israeli occupation claimed responsibility
for the assassination. The shooting comes about a month after the
killing of Ahmed Zamzam, an officer in Gaza’s Interior Ministry. Zamzam
was shot dead in the Maghazi refugee camp in central Gaza. Gaza
authorities said at the time that their investigation showed the
involvement of collaborators with Israel in his killing.} Video -

Israeli-Backed Gang Assassinates Palestinian Police Officer
Quds news - Jan 12, 2026
{“Collaborators With Occupation”: Israeli-Backed Gang Assassinates
Palestinian Police Officer in Gaza
Immediately after the assassination, Hussam Al-Astal, head of an
Israeli-backed gang based in an area under Israeli control east of Khan
Younis and known for collaborating with Israel, claimed responsibility
for the killing in a video he posted on his Facebook page.
Gaza (QNN)- An Israeli-backed gang assassinated a Palestinian police
officer in southern Gaza on Monday. The Palestinian Interior Ministry
described the militia as “collaborators with the occupation.” On Monday,
the Palestinian Interior Ministry confirmed gunmen opened fire from a
passing car, killing Mahmoud Al-Astal, head of the criminal police unit
in Khan Younis, in the south of the enclave. It described the gunmen as
"collaborators with the occupation”. Immediately after the
assassination, Hussam Al-Astal, head of an Israeli-backed gang based in
an area under Israeli control east of Khan Younis and known for
collaborating with Israel, claimed responsibility for the killing in a
video he posted on his Facebook page. Al-Astal is among other leaders of
Israeli-armed militias in Gaza who are based behind the so-called
“Yellow Line”, a non-physical demarcation line separating the Israeli
occupation forces from certain areas of Gaza, while maintaining control
of roughly 53 percent of the Strip. They are known among Palestinians
for collaborating with Israel, looting much-needed aid, and gathering
intelligence. Yasser Abu Shabab’s militia is the most notorious, with
its members openly carrying weapons under direct Israeli oversight in
eastern Rafah. The assassination occurred despite the ceasefire that
took effect earlier in October, as Israel continues to violate the
agreement by killing hundreds and blocking aid. ICC-wanted Israeli Prime
Minister Benjamin Netanyahu confirmed last year that Israel is arming
gangs in Gaza to “strengthen opposition groups in the Strip”.} Video -

Videoscreen grab: Hungerstrike
Al Jazeera - Jan 12, 2026
{Writers declare solidarity with prisoners on hunger strike for
Palestine
Global writers and scholars have shown their support to hunger striking
prisoners from the Palestine Action group. Dozens of global writers and
scholars have signed a declaration of solidarity to support
hunger-striking prisoners from the proscribed Palestine Action group.
Author Naomi Klein, novelist Sally Rooney, activist and academic Angela
Davis, philosopher Judith Butler and journalist George Monbiot are among
the signatories backing three British activists in the United Kingdom
who are refusing food until their demands are met.

Heba Muraisi and Kamran Ahmed
Heba Muraisi and Kamran Ahmed have been on hunger strike for 71 and 64
days, respectively, as part of a protest that began in November. A third
prisoner, Lewie Chiaramello, is also refusing food on alternating days
due to type 1 diabetes.
The activists are being held in different prisons over their alleged
involvement in break-ins at the UK subsidiary of the Israeli defence
firm Elbit Systems in Bristol and a Royal Air Force (RAF) base in
Oxfordshire. They deny all the charges against them, which include
burglary and violent disorder. The hunger-striking prisoners are
demanding bail and the right to a fair trial, as well as a reversal of
the UK government’s designation of Palestine Action as a “terrorist
organisation”. They are also calling for the closure of all Elbit sites
in the UK and an end to what they describe as censorship inside prison,
including the withholding of mail, phone calls and books. Five of the
eight people who took part in the initial protest have ended their
hunger strikes due to health concerns. All eight of the activists will
have spent more than a year in custody without trials, exceeding the
UK’s usual six-month pre-trial detention limit. There is growing
international pressure on the UK government to take action to preserve
the lives of the Palestine Action prisoners. Former hunger strikers from
Ireland, Palestine and Guantanamo Bay have issued an urgent appeal
calling on British ministers to meet families and legal representatives
of the activists. Friends and relatives of the prisoners have told Al
Jazeera that they are determined to continue refusing food until all of
their demands are met, despite their rapidly deteriorating health. On
New Year’s Eve, hundreds in Belfast gathered in solidarity with the
Palestine Action activists on hunger strikes. Their chants echoed past
murals that do not merely decorate the city, but testify to its troubled
past. Along the Falls Road, Irish republican murals sit beside
Palestinian ones. The International Wall, once a rolling canvas of
global struggles, has become known as the Palestinian wall. Poems by the
late Palestinian writer Refaat Alareer, killed in an Israeli air attack
in December 2023, run across its length. Images sent by Palestinian
artists have been painted by local hands. More recently, new words have
appeared on Belfast’s famed walls: “Blessed are those who hunger for
justice.”} Video - Source: https://www.aljazeera.com/news/2026/1/12/writers-declare-solidarity-with-prisoners-on-hunger-strike-for-palestine

{New York Times Analysis: Israel Destroyed Over 2,500 Structures in Gaza
Despite Ceasefire
Satellite imagery analyzed by The New York Times reveals that Israeli
forces destroyed more than 2,500 structures in Gaza after the ceasefire
took effect, with entire neighborhoods in eastern Gaza leveled despite
the truce remaining in force.
Gaza (QNN)- A New York Times analysis based on satellite imagery shows
that Israeli forces destroyed more than 2,500 structures in Gaza after
the ceasefire took effect. The report says the destruction never
stopped, even during the ceasefire. The analysis includes nighttime
video recorded on October 30, while the ceasefire was in force. The
footage appears to show a large, controlled demolition in Shujaiya, a
neighborhood east of Gaza City. The area remains under Israeli control.
Under the ceasefire agreement reached earlier that month, Israeli forces
pulled back to a defined line inside Gaza. Israeli military maps marked
this boundary with a yellow line. According to the New York Times, most
demolitions since the ceasefire took place in areas under Israeli
control along this line.
Satellite images taken shortly after the ceasefire show clusters of
intact buildings in Shujaiya on both sides of the yellow line. Images
captured months later reveal the same areas reduced to barren land. The
images also show that dozens of buildings were destroyed outside the
yellow line. The newspaper notes that many of the destroyed structures
likely suffered heavy damage during two years of Israeli bombardment. A
United Nations assessment found that by October 11, more than 80 percent
of Gaza’s buildings had sustained damage or were destroyed. Most
residents of these buildings had already fled due to repeated evacuation
orders and intense fighting. Still, the New York Times reports that
Israeli forces continue to level entire neighborhoods without regard for
the people who once lived there or owned the property. The ongoing
demolitions also place what remains of Gaza’s infrastructure at further
risk. The scale of destruction remains striking. In eastern Gaza, within
areas under Israeli control, satellite images show entire neighborhoods
erased since the ceasefire began. The images also reveal widespread
damage to farmland and greenhouse structures. An Israeli military
official, speaking on condition of anonymity, said the army does not
demolish buildings randomly. The official acknowledged that demolitions
take place on both sides of the yellow line. He claimed the army targets
structures it considers a threat to Israeli soldiers, including
buildings near the boundary. Shaul Arieli, a former Israeli commander
who led forces in Gaza during the 1990s, described the scale of
destruction in stark terms. “This is absolute destruction,” he said. “It
is not selective destruction. It is everything.”} Video - Source: https://qudsnen.co/post?id=67048&slug=new-york-times-analysis-israel-destroyed-over-2500-structures-in-gaza-despite-ceasefire
Videoscreen grab: ‘fatal’ settlement plan
Al Jazeera - Jan 12, 2026 Mohammad Mansour
{Israel advances ‘fatal’ settlement plan for occupied East Jerusalem
Israel’s plan for 9,000 units at Jerusalem airport is a move to sever
the city from the West Bank, analyst says. Israel is set to advance two
major illegal settlement plans for occupied East Jerusalem, which
Palestinian officials and experts warn will serve as the final blow to
hopes for a contiguous Palestinian state. The Jerusalem governorate
announced on Sunday that Israeli authorities will discuss approving
9,000 settlement units on the ruins of the Qalandiya airport, also known
as Atarot, and a separate project in Sheikh Jarrah to displace 40
families. To understand the strategic implications of these moves, Al
Jazeera spoke to Suhail Khalilieh, a political analyst and expert on
illegal Israeli settlements.
The Trump factor
The Atarot plan was briefly shelved in December 2025 but has now
returned to the table. According to Khalilieh, the timing is directly
linked to the shifting geopolitical landscape following the recent
meeting between Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and United
States President Donald Trump. “The meeting … served as a green light
for continued settlement expansion,” Khalilieh told Al Jazeera. “The
American position, which treats Jerusalem as being outside any
negotiation process … has encouraged the occupation to put this project
into direct implementation,” he added, noting that international
criticism has been reduced to mere “verbal objections without any
deterrence”.
Severing the north
The airport project is not just about housing; it is a strategic
chokehold, Khalilieh said. He explained that the Atarot settlement is
one of the three major axes designed to complete the “Greater Jerusalem”
vision:
North: The Atarot project will link East Jerusalem with the Givat Zeev
settlement bloc, effectively severing the city from Ramallah.
East: The E1 plan aims to create a bridge between East Jerusalem and the
Maale Adumim bloc.
South: Expansions in Har Gilo and the new Nahal Heletz settlement will
connect the city to the Gush Etzion bloc.
“This will increase the area of Jerusalem … by adding 175sq km [68sq
miles],” Khalilieh said. “The current area of East Jerusalem, according
to the Israeli definition, is 71sq km [27sq miles]. With these
additions, Greater Jerusalem under Israeli control will reach 246sq km
[95sq miles], 4.5 percent … of the West Bank’s area, aiming to abort any
possibility of establishing a Palestinian capital in East Jerusalem.”
Encirclement of the Old City
In parallel, the “Nahalat Shimon” plan in Sheikh Jarrah targets the
historic “Holy Basin” area north of the Old City. “This falls under the
old-new Israeli efforts to expand the settlement ring around the Old
City,” Khalilieh said. The goal, he argued, is to dismantle geographical
continuity between Palestinian neighbourhoods like Silwan, the Mount of
Olives, and Sheikh Jarrah, transforming them into “isolated population
islands”. “Today, the takeover of the Old City has begun through this
ring … aiming to empty these areas gradually through intensified
demolitions.”
‘Silent transfer’
Khalilieh warned that Israel is using neutral planning terms like “urban
renewal” and “land settlement” to camouflage a policy of forced
displacement. “Development for Israelis means demolishing Palestinian
homes under the guise of ‘building without a permit’,” he said, noting
that more than 300 Palestinian homes were demolished in East Jerusalem
in 2025 alone. He also pointed to the unification of the “Arnona”
property tax, which forces residents of neglected Palestinian
neighbourhoods to pay the high rates as those in affluent Israeli areas.
“This puts them under cumulative pressure to leave Jerusalem … it
constitutes a silent forced transfer.”
Is it too late?
Khalilieh stressed that legal and diplomatic intervention must happen
“before construction begins”, as reversing facts on the ground is
politically “nearly impossible”. He called for activating provisional
measures at the International Court of Justice (ICJ) and targeting
international companies involved in the projects. “The problem, first
and last, is a political dilemma, not a legal one,” he concluded. “Early
intervention is crucial … to freeze these projects until the political
situation can be addressed.”} Video - Source: https://www.aljazeera.com/news/2026/1/12/israel-advances-fatal-settlement-plan-for-occupied-east-jerusalem

BDS boycots israel
Quds news - Jan 12, 2026
{UK: Labour Minister Warns Local Councils They Could Be Sued for
Boycotting Israel
The Boycott, Divestment, Sanctions (BDS) movement, founded in 2005,
works to end international support for Israel's oppression of
Palestinians.
London (QNN)- The UK Communities Secretary has warned Labour-run
councils that they could be sued for boycotting Israeli businesses,
after several local authorities voted in 2025 to boycott companies
complicit in Israeli war crimes, involved in arms supplies to Israel, or
benefiting from the occupation of Palestinian territory amid the
genocide in Gaza. "Councils should stay out of foreign conflicts and get
on with the job of delivering local services," Communities Secretary
Steve Reed said, Middle East Eye reported. The Boycott, Divestment,
Sanctions (BDS) movement, founded in 2005, works to end international
support for Israel's oppression of Palestinians. In opposition, the
Labour Party opposed a bill brought by the Conservative government in
2024 banning public bodies from divesting in Israel. But speaking over
the weekend, Reed pointed local councils to government guidance
published in 2016 which prohibits procurement boycotts against Israeli
firms and firms which trade with Israel. Reed said that councils could
be sued under the Procurement Act 2023 over their boycotts by suppliers
who lose money, and could be required to pay damages. Under this
legislation, councils are required to robotically follow the guidance of
the Procurement Review Unit (PRU) — attached to the cabinet office —
rather than the consciences of their elected councillors. The PRU can
add suppliers to a debarment list, forbidding trade with them. In
March, Oxford City Council passed a motion supporting the BDS movement
against Israel, citing International Court of Justice (ICJ) rulings. The
council resolved to avoid trade and investment relations and cooperation
with entities complicit in violations of human rights and international
law. Labour-run Cumberland council also said it would withdraw
investments from companies supplying weapons to Israel. In December,
Labour-run Newcastle council passed a motion committing to review its
financial ties with companies "complicit with the genocide and/or
illegal occupation" in Gaza and the occupied West Bank. And the
pension funds of numerous councils - including Islington, Lewisham,
Wandsworth and Caerphilly - have excluded companies on the United
Nations list of businesses involved in the occupied Palestinian
territories. Reed's warning comes amid a crackdown on pro-Palestine
activism in Britain.} Source: https://qudsnen.co/post?id=67044&slug=uk-labour-minister-warns-local-councils-they-could-be-sued-for-boycotting-israel

Abdel-Fattah
Quds news - Jan 12, 2026
{Board Chair and Three Board Members Resign, 70+ Participants Withdraw
From Adelaide Festival Over Removal of Palestinian-Australian Writer
The departures follow the withdrawal of more than 70 participants of
next month’s festival events over the removal of Abdel-Fattah from its
lineup over the Bondi attack, despite her having no link to the
incident.
Adelaide (QNN)- Three board members, along with the board chair, have
resigned following what they described as the board’s “blatant and
shameless” decision to remove Palestinian-Australian author Randa
Abdel-Fattah from the 2026 Writers’ Week program. More than 70
participants have also withdrawn from next month’s festival events. The
journalist Daniela Ritorto, the Adelaide businesswoman Donny Walford and
the lawyer Nick Linke stepped down at an extraordinary board meeting on
Saturday following the board’s decision. Separately on Sunday
evening, festival board chair Tracey Whiting confirmed that she had
decided to resign, “effective immediately”. She did not detail her
reasons for resigning, saying only in a statement: “Recent decisions
were bound by certain undertakings and my resignation enables the
Adelaide Festival, as an organisation, to refresh its leadership and its
approach to these circumstances.” “My tenure as Chair has been immensely
enjoyable, as has working with the terrific AF team. I look forward to
the future success of the Adelaide Festival,” she added in the post on
LinkedIn. The departures follow the withdrawal of more than 70
participants of next month’s festival events over the removal of
Abdel-Fattah from its lineup over the Bondi attack, despite her having
no link to the incident. The festival covers arts, music, talks and
theatre and includes Adelaide’s annual Writers’ Week next month, where
Abdel-Fattah was due to appear for the second time after hosting a
number of panels and sessions in 2023. In a Thursday statement, the
festival’s board said it had been “shocked and saddened by the tragic
events at Bondi” and the “significant heightening of both community
tensions and the community debate”. “As the Board responsible for the
Adelaide Festival organisation and all Adelaide Writers’ Week events,
staff, volunteers and participants, we have today advised scheduled
writer Dr Randa Abdel-Fattah that the Board has formed the judgment that
we do not wish to proceed with her scheduled appearance at next month’s
Writers’ Week,” it added. Within hours of the board’s announcement,
Abdel-Fattah issued her own statement, slamming the festival board’s
“blatant and shameless anti-Palestinian racism and censorship.” She said
the board’s attempt to associate her with the Bondi massacre was
“despicable”. “The Adelaide Writers Festival Board has stripped me of my
humanity and agency, reducing me to an object onto which others can
project their racist fears and smears,” she added. “The Board’s
reasoning suggests that my mere presence is ‘culturally insensitive’;
that I, a Palestinian who had nothing to do with the Bondi atrocity, am
somehow a trigger for those in mourning and that I should therefore be
persona non grata in cultural circles because my very presence as a
Palestinian is threatening and ‘unsafe’.” Abdel-Fattah also took aim at
Australian arts and cultural institutions in general, accusing them of
displaying “utter contempt and inhumanity towards Palestinians” since 7
October 2023, when Israel launched its genocidal war on Gaza. “The only
Palestinians they will tolerate are silent and invisible ones,” she
said. The board said while it did not suggest “in any way” that
Abdel-Fattah or her writings had any connection with the tragedy at
Bondi, it claimed that the decision was made “given her past
statements”. “We have formed the view that it would not be culturally
sensitive to continue to program her at this unprecedented time so soon
after Bondi,” it said. “We understand these Board decisions will likely
be disappointing to many in our community. We also recognise our request
to Dr Abdel-Fattah will be labelled and will cause discomfort and
pressure to other participants. These decisions have not been taken
lightly.” “Our only request is that our community is respectful to our
staff and volunteers who have not formed part of our decision-making
process and deserve nothing but ongoing support for their excellent
work.” Abdel-Fattah said she was confident that the writing community
and public would respond with “principle and integrity, as they did when
I was singled out in the same racist way during the Bendigo Writers
Festival”. “In the end, the Adelaide Writers Festival will be left with
panellists who demonise a Palestinian out of one side of their mouths
while waxing lyrical about freedom of speech from the other.” By
Thursday afternoon, statements of withdrawal from fellow writers and
sponsors started appearing. The Australia Institute announced the
withdrawal of its sponsorship for the 2026 event, which in the past had
“promoted bravery, freedom of expression and the exchange of ideas”, it
said in a statement. “Censoring or cancelling authors is not in the
spirit of an open and free exchange of ideas.” A former director of
Adelaide Writers’ Week, Jo Dyer, posted on Bluesky that she was
“appalled” at the Adelaide festival board’s decision – “a shocking
decision that will and should have far-reaching consequences”. The
Stella prize-winning poet Evelyn Araluen was one of the first writers to
publicly withdraw. The Dropbear and The Rot author said the board’s
decision was a “devastating betrayal’ of the democratic ethos that has
defined the festival. “I am so disappointed to witness yet another
absurd and irrational capitulation to the demands of a genocidal foreign
state from the Australian arts sector,” she posted on Instagram.
“Erasing Palestinians from public life in Australia won’t prevent anti
semitism. Removing Palestinians from writers festivals won’t prevent
anti semitism. I refuse to participate in this spectacle of censorship.”
The First Nations academic and writer Chelsea Watego posted an Adelaide
Writers’ Week list of 2026 confirmed writers on Instagram with her name
crossed out. Abdel-Fattah had faced sustained criticism for her
pro-palestine, anti-genocide comments. The Adelaide-based publisher Pink
Shorts Press said it “strongly condemns” the removal of Abdel-Fattah
from programming and was now considering whether it would continue its
collaboration with the festival.
Last year, Abdel-Fattah was among about 30 participants who pulled out
of the Bendigo writers’ festival after it issued a last-minute code of
conduct that one said requires “complete self-censorship” over Israel’s
war in Gaza. On Sunday, the Sydney legal firm Marque, acting on behalf
of Abdel-Fattah, wrote to Whiting, demanding she provide each and every
statement made by the academic that had played a part in the board’s
decision to axe her from the 2026 program.
“Your letter notified Dr Abdel-Fattah of the board’s decision to
exclude her from participating as a speaker at Adelaide Writers Week in
2026,” said the letter, from Marque’s managing partner, Michael Bradley.
“Your letter was the first indication she received that her
participation was in question. There was no communication or
consultation of any kind with her prior to the decision to exclude her.”
Bradley said the notification his client received from the board had
provided no reason for its decision other than “it would not be
culturally sensitive to proceed with [her] scheduled appearance”. But in
the public statement it issued on Thursday, Bradley noted, the board
said it was her past statements that had informed the board’s decision
that it would be culturally insensitive to allow her participation, so
soon after the Bondi terror attack. “As a matter of basic procedural
fairness to Dr Abdel-Fattah, please identify with specificity, each of
the past statements made by her on which the board relied in making the
decision,” the legal letter said. “She is entitled to this information.”
The board was given until 14 January to respond, along with a request to
Whiting and her diminished board to retain all documents relating to the
matter, for the purposes of possible litigation.} Video - Source: https://qudsnen.co/post?id=67043&slug=board-chair-and-three-board-members-resign-70-participants-withdraw-from-adelaide-festival-over-removal-of-palestinian-australian-writer

fans slamming the casting of Manheim over his pro-Israel stance.
California (QNN)- Disney’s live-action Tangled casting has drawn
backlash online, with pro-Palestine fans slamming Milo Manheim, cast as
Flynn Rider, as a “Zionist actor,” citing his public support for Israel.
The studio confirmed on Wednesday that Teagan Croft will portray
Rapunzel, while Manheim has been cast as Flynn Rider in the remake of
the 2010 animated film. The announcement has sparked anger on social
media with pro-Palestine fans slamming the casting of Manheim over his
pro-Israel stance. In response to the Palestinian resistance operation
on October 7th, Manheim shared a post on Instagram stating, "My heart
goes out to everyone affected by the attacks in Israel". Fans have noted
he has not shared anything in response to the two-year Israeli genocide
of Palestinian people in Gaza where more than 71,000 Palestinians have
been killed since October 2023. Fans have also slammed him for comments
and likes supporting pro-Israel content shared on social media.
Reactions included statements such as "Not our Flynn thank you", "we
will NOT be watching ", and " Flynn Rider would never." One widely
shared post read brought up a similar controversy surrounding Disney's
Snow White which contributed to its failure at the box office. It said,
"Disney really didn’t learn a thing from the Snow White mess. They hired
Zionist Gal Gadot and the movie flopped hard.”} Video - Source: https://qudsnen.co/post?id=67047&slug=pro-palestine-fans-call-to-boycott-disneys-live-action-tangled-over-zionist-actor

{Former New Zealand PM Latest to Withdraw From Adelaide Writers’ Week
After Removal of Palestinian-Australian Academic
100 of 124 writers programmed have withdrawn from the high-profile
literary festival, which runs from February 28-March 5, in response to
the board’s move.
Adelaide (QNN)- Former New Zealand prime minister Jacinda Ardern has
become the latest figure to withdraw from the 2026 Adelaide Writers’
Week in protest over the Adelaide Festival board’s decision to remove
Palestinian-Australian academic Randa Abdel-Fattah. More than 70
participants have also withdrawn from next month’s festival events.
Ardern had been scheduled to discuss her memoir A Different Kind of
Power with the ABC’s host of 7.30, Sarah Ferguson, on 3 March. The
journalist Daniela Ritorto, the Adelaide businesswoman Donny Walford and
the lawyer Nick Linke also stepped down at an extraordinary board
meeting on Saturday following the board’s decision.
I look forward to
the future success of the Adelaide Festival,” she added in the post on
LinkedIn.
Ardern joins a growing list of international writers and commentators
who have decided to boycott the event, along with more than 70
participants over the removal of Abdel-Fattah from its lineup over the
Bondi attack, despite her having no link to the incident. Bestselling
author Zadie Smith, Pulitzer prize-winning writer Percival Everett,
Greek economist and politician Yanis Varoufakis, Irish novelist Roisín
O’Donnell and Russian American journalist M Gessen have all confirmed
their withdrawal in recent days. According to Daily Mail, 100 of 124
writers programmed have withdrawn from the high-profile literary
festival, which runs from February 28-March 5, in response to the
board’s move. The festival covers arts, music, talks and theatre and
includes Adelaide’s annual Writers’ Week next month, where Abdel-Fattah
was due to appear for the second time after hosting a number of panels
and sessions in 2023. In a Thursday statement, the festival’s board said
it had been “shocked and saddened by the tragic events at Bondi” and the
“significant heightening of both community tensions and the community
debate”. “As the Board responsible for the Adelaide Festival
organisation and all Adelaide Writers’ Week events, staff, volunteers
and participants, we have today advised scheduled writer Dr Randa
Abdel-Fattah that the Board has formed the judgment that we do not wish
to proceed with her scheduled appearance at next month’s Writers’ Week,”
it added. Within hours of the board’s announcement, Abdel-Fattah issued
her own statement, slamming the festival board’s “blatant and shameless
anti-Palestinian racism and censorship.” She said the board’s attempt to
associate her with the Bondi massacre was “despicable”. “The Adelaide
Writers Festival Board has stripped me of my humanity and agency,
reducing me to an object onto which others can project their racist
fears and smears,” she added. “The Board’s reasoning suggests that my
mere presence is ‘culturally insensitive’; that I, a Palestinian who had
nothing to do with the Bondi atrocity, am somehow a trigger for those in
mourning and that I should therefore be persona non grata in cultural
circles because my very presence as a Palestinian is threatening and
‘unsafe’.” Abdel-Fattah also took aim at Australian arts and cultural
institutions in general, accusing them of displaying “utter contempt and
inhumanity towards Palestinians” since 7 October 2023, when Israel
launched its genocidal war on Gaza. “The only Palestinians they will
tolerate are silent and invisible ones,” she said. The board said while
it did not suggest “in any way” that Abdel-Fattah or her writings had
any connection with the tragedy at Bondi, it claimed that the decision
was made “given her past statements”. “We have formed the view that it
would not be culturally sensitive to continue to program her at this
unprecedented time so soon after Bondi,” it said. “We understand these
Board decisions will likely be disappointing to many in our community.
We also recognise our request to Dr Abdel-Fattah will be labelled and
will cause discomfort and pressure to other participants. These
decisions have not been taken lightly.” “Our only request is that our
community is respectful to our staff and volunteers who have not formed
part of our decision-making process and deserve nothing but ongoing
support for their excellent work.” Abdel-Fattah said she was confident
that the writing community and public would respond with “principle and
integrity, as they did when I was singled out in the same racist way
during the Bendigo Writers Festival”. “In the end, the Adelaide Writers
Festival will be left with panellists who demonise a Palestinian out of
one side of their mouths while waxing lyrical about freedom of speech
from the other.” By Thursday afternoon, statements of withdrawal from
fellow writers and sponsors started appearing. The Australia Institute
announced the withdrawal of its sponsorship for the 2026 event, which in
the past had “promoted bravery, freedom of expression and the exchange
of ideas”, it said in a statement. “Censoring or cancelling authors is
not in the spirit of an open and free exchange of ideas.” A former
director of Adelaide Writers’ Week, Jo Dyer, posted on Bluesky that she
was “appalled” at the Adelaide festival board’s decision – “a shocking
decision that will and should have far-reaching consequences”. The
Stella prize-winning poet Evelyn Araluen was one of the first writers to
publicly withdraw.
Abdel-Fattah had faced sustained criticism for her pro-apalestine,
anti-genocide comments.
The Adelaide-based publisher Pink Shorts Press said it “strongly
condemns” the removal of Abdel-Fattah from programming and was now
considering whether it would continue its collaboration with the
festival. Last year, Abdel-Fattah was among about 30 participants who
pulled out of the Bendigo writers’ festival after it issued a
last-minute code of conduct that one said requires “complete
self-censorship” over Israel’s war in Gaza. On Sunday, the Sydney legal
firm Marque, acting on behalf of Abdel-Fattah, wrote to Whiting,
demanding she provide each and every statement made by the academic that
had played a part in the board’s decision to axe her from the 2026
program. “Your letter notified Dr Abdel-Fattah of the board’s decision
to exclude her from participating as a speaker at Adelaide Writers Week
in 2026,” said the letter, from Marque’s managing partner, Michael
Bradley.
The board was given until 14 January to respond, along with a request to
Whiting and her diminished board to retain all documents relating to the
matter, for the purposes of possible litigation.} Video - Source: https://qudsnen.co/post?id=67045&slug=former-new-zealand-pm-latest-to-withdraw-from-adelaide-writers-week-after-removal-of-palestinian-australian-academic

{Rights Group: Israel Destroys Evidence of War Crimes Through Mass
Demolition in Rafah
Israel is bulldozing large areas of Rafah while hundreds of bodies
remain under the rubble, prompting rights groups to warn that the
destruction is erasing evidence of war crimes and blocking the recovery
and identification of victims.
Gaza (QNN)- Euro-Med Human Rights Monitor has urged urgent international
action to stop Israeli rubble removal and land levelling in Rafah,
southern Gaza, warning that the operations are destroying evidence of
crimes and preventing the recovery of victims’ bodies. The rights group
said Israeli forces, along with contractors working under their
authority, have evacuated areas under full Israeli control in Rafah and
launched large-scale bulldozing. The Israeli army has confirmed that at
least 70 percent of rubble removal in the city is complete. Euro-Med
warned that these operations continue despite strong indications that
hundreds of bodies remain buried under destroyed homes, streets, and
farmland. It said bulldozing risks damaging human remains, erasing their
locations, and making recovery and identification impossible. The group
said it had previously documented the bombing of homes while residents
were inside and attacks on civilians as they tried to flee. Rescue teams
could not reach many victims due to Israel’s military control and
blocked access. It added that rubble removal now extends this
obstruction and raises the risk of wiping out evidence linked to the
victims’ fate. Euro-Med also warned that heavy machinery may fragment
remains or mix them with debris that contractors could move to unknown
sites or landfills. It said this would violate the dignity of the dead
and the rights of families to know, mourn, and bury their loved ones.
The organization said around 8,000 people remain missing across Gaza,
with hundreds believed to be buried under rubble, especially in Rafah.
It stressed the urgent need to allow search and rescue teams, forensic
experts, and specialized equipment to enter the area. Euro-Med strongly
rejected Israeli plans to reshape Rafah under the name of a “Green
City,” warning that the project aims to forcibly concentrate
Palestinians into a military-controlled zone. It said the plan would
deepen displacement, block return to homes, and turn the area into a
population ghetto. The group said the plan violates international
humanitarian law through forcible transfer, severe deprivation of
liberty, discriminatory policies, mass property destruction, and the
removal of rubble before bodies are recovered. It warned that the
project would lock Palestinians into life-threatening conditions under
military control. Euro-Med called for immediate international pressure
to halt all rubble removal in Rafah until a binding humanitarian
mechanism is established. It also urged the creation of an independent
international body to oversee body recovery, documentation, and
identification across Gaza. The group further called for banning the
transfer of rubble outside Rafah before forensic surveys end and for
providing technical support such as mobile DNA labs and a unified
database for missing persons. Finally, Euro-Med urged states to move
beyond statements and take concrete action, including suspending
military and security cooperation with Israel, imposing a full arms
embargo, and halting any activities that enable ongoing violations
against Palestinians.} Video - Source: https://qudsnen.co/post?id=67042&slug=rights-group-israel-destroys-evidence-of-war-crimes-through-mass-demolition-in-rafah
