<<UN accuses Israel of genocidal acts in Gaza
Israel carried out genocidal acts through the systematic destruction of
sexual and reproductive healthcare facilities, said a report released by
the UN Independent International Commission of Inquiry on the Occupied
Palestinian Territory on Wednesday.
News Center- The UN Independent International Commission of Inquiry on
the Occupied Palestinian Territory released Wednesday a report
documenting a broad range of violations perpetrated against Palestinian
women, men, girls and boys across the occupied Palestinian territory
since October 7, 2023. “Israel has increasingly employed sexual,
reproductive and other forms of gender-based violence against
Palestinians as part of a broader effort to undermine their right to
self-determination and carried out genocidal acts through the systematic
destruction of sexual and reproductive healthcare facilities,” said the
report. The Commission found that Israeli forces have systematically
destroyed sexual and reproductive healthcare facilities across Gaza.
“Women and girls have died from complications related to pregnancy and
childbirth due to the conditions imposed by the Israeli authorities
which have denied access to reproductive health care - acts which amount
to the crime against humanity of extermination.”
“The evidence collected by the Commission reveals a deplorable increase
in sexual and gender-based violence,” said Navi Pillay, Chair of the
Commission. “There is no escape from the conclusion that Israel has
employed sexual and gender-based violence against Palestinians to
terrorise them and perpetuate a system of oppression that undermines
their right to self-determination.”>>

Al Jazeera - March 13, 2025
<<Israel’s attacks on reproductive healthcare in Gaza ‘genocidal’: UN
probe
UN experts say Israel ‘intentionally attacked and destroyed’ the
Palestinian territory’s main fertility centre.
Israel has carried out “genocidal acts” against Palestinians by
systematically destroying women’s healthcare facilities during its war
on Gaza and using sexual violence as a war strategy, United Nations
experts have said. On Thursday, the Geneva-based Independent
International Commission of Inquiry said in a new report that Israel
“intentionally attacked and destroyed” Gaza’s main fertility centre
while simultaneously blocking medicine for pregnancies, deliveries and
neonatal care from entering the enclave. In its report, the commission
found that Israeli authorities “have destroyed … the reproductive
capacity of Palestinians in Gaza as a group through the systematic
destruction of sexual and reproductive healthcare”, it said in a
statement. It added that this amounted to “two categories of genocidal
acts” during Israel’s offensive in Gaza, launched after the attacks by
Hamas on Israel on October 7, 2023. For its part, “Israel categorically
rejects the unfounded allegations”, its mission in Geneva said in a
statement.
Meanwhile, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu condemned the UN
investigation for “false accusations, including absurd claims”. “The
anti-Israeli circus known as the UN Human Rights Council has long been
exposed as an anti-Semitic, corrupt, terror-supporting, and irrelevant
body,” Netanyahu said in a statement issued by his office on Thursday.
‘War crime of wilful killing’
The report said maternity hospitals and wards had been systematically
destroyed in Gaza, along with the Al-Basma IVF Centre, the territory’s
main in-vitro fertility clinic. It said Al-Basma was intentionally
shelled in December 2023, destroying about 4,000 embryos at a clinic
that served 2,000-3,000 patients a month. The commission found no
credible evidence that the building was used for military purposes. It
said the destruction “was a measure intended to prevent births among
Palestinians in Gaza, which is a genocidal act”. Speaking to Al Jazeera,
the former UN Humanitarian Affairs Coordinator Martin Griffiths said
“it’s good that the UN is now talking about genocide, because up to now
it’s been very careful about that word”. And while he said that the
evidence for genocide was “incontrovertible” and that the findings were
“long overdue”, he steered clear of saying that either the International
Court of Justice (ICJ) or the International Criminal Court (ICC) would
bring those accountable to justice. “Will it be a legally enforced
claim? I don’t think so,” he said of the report’s findings. The report
came after the commission conducted public hearings in Geneva on Tuesday
and Wednesday, hearing from victims and witnesses of sexual violence. It
concluded that Israel had targeted civilian women and girls directly,
“acts that constitute the crime against humanity of murder and the war
crime of wilful killing”. The commission added that forced public
stripping and nudity, sexual harassment including threats of rape, as
well as sexual assault, comprise part of the Israeli forces’ “standard
operating procedures” towards Palestinians.

Video footage - Gazans unable to access safe drinking water

<<UNICEF: Nine out of 10 Gazans unable to access safe drinking water
Severe water shortages in Gaza have reached critical levels, with only
one in 10 people currently able to access safe drinking water, the UN
Children’s Fund (UNICEF) warned on Monday.
News Center- The situation in the Gaza Strip has deteriorated further
since Israel’s decision on Sunday to cut power to the enclave. Severe
water shortages in Gaza have reached critical levels, with only one in
10 people currently able to access safe drinking water, the UN
Children’s Fund (UNICEF) warned on Monday. Rosalia Bollen, a UNICEF
official in Gaza, reported that 600,000 people who had regained access
to drinking water in November 2024 are once again cut off.
“It’s really vital for thousands of families and children to restore
this connection,” she said.
UN agencies estimate that 1.8 million people, over half of them
children, urgently need water, sanitation and hygiene assistance in the
Gaza Strip.
“The situation is similar to the one which prevailed in October 2023,”
Philippe Lazzarini, the Commissioner-General of the United Nations
Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East (UNRWA),
said at a press conference in Geneva.>>

Other faces of siege
Jinha - Womens News Agency - March 12, 2025 - RAFIF ASLIM
<<Other face of siege on Gaza: Famine and hunger
Palestinian women struggle to survive against famine and hunger due to
the ongoing siege imposed by Israel on the Gaza Strip.
Gaza- Palestinians, particularly women and children, struggle to survive
in the Gaza Strip being left in ruins by Israel’s attacks. The
humanitarian crisis in the enclave has been deteriorating due to the
siege and a blockade of humanitarian aid entering Gaza imposed by
Israel, putting the population of the Gaza Strip at high risk of famine.
High prices
Sahar Jamal is one of the women in Gaza City, looking for food for their
families. She cannot buy even basic goods due to high prices in the
city. “We have had no access to food since March 5 due to the siege,”
she told NuJINHA. “As adults, we are used to being hungry and thirsty
but children cannot stand without eating and drinking something.” Sahar
Jamal tries to cope with the difficult living conditions by collecting
some herbs. “This is the only thing that I can provide for my family
during Ramadan.” Sahar Jamal thinks that the blockage of humanitarian
aid entering Gaza makes everything even more complicated. “Israeli
authorities have released statements claiming that there is sufficient
food in the Gaza Strip to feed people for five months. This is a lie. If
you go to the markets, you can understand the dire situation suffered by
people and how people are at the risk of famine. If an urgent action is
not taken, authorities will come here to record deaths.”
‘Take urgent action’
Sahar Jamal called on everyone to “take urgent action” by launching
campaigns on social media platforms to lift the siege imposed on Gaza
and save the people from hunger, thirst and death. “The ceasefire did
not make our life normal. We still struggle to survive.”>>

<<Israeli forces kill at least four people in the occupied West Bank
Tens of thousands of Palestinians have fled their homes since Israel’s
West Bank operation began.
Israeli forces have killed at least four Palestinians, including a
60-year-old woman, in the occupied West Bank, the Palestinian Authority
(PA) says.
Police special forces fought a gun battle on Tuesday with armed
Palestinians barricaded in a house in Jenin, killing two and wounding
another man, the Israeli military said in a statement. In another
incident on Tuesday, a man who opened fire on Israeli soldiers was
killed, it said. The PA said soldiers firing from a checkpoint also
killed a 60-year-old woman. There was no immediate comment from the
Israeli military. The previous evening, a Palestinian man was killed
when his motorcycle was hit by an Israeli army vehicle, the PA said.
Another man who was wanted over previous incidents was killed by
Palestinian security forces, the PA said in a separate statement. It
said the man was accused of opening fire on the headquarters of the
security forces in Jenin. The latest incidents bring the number of
Palestinians killed since January when Israeli forces launched a major
operation involving thousands of soldiers in cities and refugee camps in
the northern West Bank to more than 30 people. Tens of thousands of
Palestinians have fled their homes since the operation began at the
start of a ceasefire in Gaza. Israeli troops have swept through refugee
camps in Jenin and nearby cities, demolishing houses and infrastructure,
including roads and water pipes. Countries including France and Germany
and international groups including the United Nations have expressed
alarm at the scale of Israel’s operation in the West Bank and called for
restraint. Israel has repeatedly said the operation is aimed at hitting
armed groups, including Hamas and the Palestinian Islamic Jihad, which
have created strongholds in the crowded refugee camps built to house
Palestinians displaced when Israel was created and their descendants.
The Israeli army said in a statement on Tuesday that its troops arrested
35 people in the West Bank overnight and added that weapons were
confiscated during the operations. It said one detained suspect led
soldiers to an area where he had planted an explosive device, without
specifying the location, and said the device has been neutralised. In
the southern West Bank, Israeli settlers stormed the village of Haribat
al-Nabi in Masafer Yatta, south of Hebron, attacking residents and their
property, the Palestinian news agency Wafa reported. Settlers armed with
clubs and batons attacked the village under the protection of the
Israeli army. Mutab Rashid, a resident, was beaten, while Ali Sabah
Rashid and his wife were sprayed with pepper gas, Wafa reported. Israeli
soldiers arrested another resident identified by Wafa as Ahmad Abdul
Mohsen Rashid.
