Trauma therapy Reaches All Children
Quds News - Dec 6, 2025 - By: Malak Hani Radwan
{Gaza Engineers and Therapists Turn to VR as Trauma Reaches All Children
A new virtual-reality therapy program is emerging as a critical tool for
mental-health workers treating Gaza’s youngest survivors, offering a
rare space for relief inside a war-shattered environment. War continues
to leave deep marks not only on bodies but also on the minds of Gaza’s
population, disrupting sleep, daily movement, and memory. For many, the
constant bombardment has created a psychological environment where the
smallest moments of calm become a form of survival. Children remain the
most affected. Doctors and mental-health workers in Gaza report severe
psychological and physical reactions among minors after two years of
war. Some children experience hair loss, speech disruptions, and
trauma-related regression. Others lose access to medical treatment or
are denied travel for care. Many injuries become life-threatening due to
a lack of medication and the collapse of the health sector. In this
context, an initiative known as TECH MED Gaza has begun offering
virtual-reality-based therapy to help children temporarily detach from
the scenes of destruction around them. The program uses Meta Quest 2 VR
headsets, described by the organizers as a “safe corridor” that allows
children to enter guided, calming environments designed for trauma
support. Jonathan Crickx, spokesman for UNICEF, recently stated that
around one million children—“all children in the Gaza Strip,” as he put
it—now require mental-health and psychosocial support after two years of
genocide. Abdullah Al-Jamal, Director of Mental Health in the Gaza
Strip, told QNN that the war has affected “every home in Gaza without
exception,” adding that children are at the highest risk of long-term
consequences if early intervention is not provided. “Based on field work
in this war, I am almost certain that all children in the Gaza Strip
have been exposed to various psychological traumas,” he said. He noted
that the destruction of all pre-war mental-health facilities,
governmental, private, and non-profit, has left services unable to meet
overwhelming demand.
How TECH MED Gaza Works
TECH MED Gaza integrates VR technology into mental-health treatment,
offering structured environments meant to support relaxation, emotional
regulation, and trauma processing. Sessions include calming nature
scenes, breathing exercises, guided mental-health routines, interactive
stories, and behavioral-therapy scenarios tailored to children. The
program also serves adult women and young people affected by the
genocide. The idea was first developed by engineer Musab Ali, whose son
was injured during the war and suffered psychological decline. As a
software engineer, he sought an alternative to mobile-phone screens and
began designing a VR-based method that might help injured children. He
collaborated with mental-health professionals and technical experts to
build the program. The first implementation was at Shuha’a Al-Aqsa
Hospital in Deir al-Balah, and the initiative later expanded to a camp
in Zawaida. Mental-health supervisor Abdullah Abu Shamla told QNN that
the program commonly treats symptoms such as anxiety, sleep disorders,
PTSD, flashbacks, hyperarousal, social isolation, panic attacks, and
behavioral issues like selective silence and avoidance. According to Abu
Shamla, VR-based sessions have shown promising results. He said that
children affected by amputations, injuries, or severe trauma have
responded “powerfully,” with faster stabilisation than in standard
sessions. Treatment that normally requires 10–12 sessions may show
results in 5–7 VR-assisted sessions. He also reported reductions in
anxiety within minutes, increased engagement among withdrawn children,
smoother transitions to speech-therapy work, and improvements in
emotional regulation and sleep.
Operational Challenges
Program staff say they face significant barriers: difficulty
transporting equipment, frequent power outages, environmental noise from
ongoing bombardment, limited supplies, and the need for continuous staff
training in a field that is new to Gaza. Long-term follow-up with
participants is often impossible due to repeated displacement. Asked
about specific cases that shaped their use of VR, staff pointed to
situations where children experienced severe panic, isolation, or
refusal to communicate during traditional therapy. One example involved
Sham, a young girl who lost a limb and stopped speaking but began
responding positively inside the virtual environment.
Case Examples from the Program
Shahada, 11, developed a serious bacterial-infection-related condition
caused by environmental contamination from the war. He suffers partial
paralysis affecting his lower limbs, upper limbs, and respiratory
system. After healthcare interruptions due to system collapse, he was
referred to TECH MED Gaza. Staff say he showed no movement in early
sessions but began attempting to move and walk by the third session.
Salah, 15, was shot in the head by a quadcopter drone while
playing with friends. TECH MED staff provided physiotherapy and
speech-therapy support. According to the program, Salah went from being
unable to sit upright to walking within two weeks. He has since returned
to school.
Local Model With Global Reference Points
According to the team, they examined VR-based mental-health models in
Europe and Canada but adapted the approach to local realities, including
war-related trauma and the practical limitations of operating in Gaza.
They describe the final model as fully Palestinian in its application.
While the program does not claim to offer a cure, its staff view it as
one tool among many needed to support Gaza’s children and survivors of
war. They emphasize that it provides temporary relief and a structured
environment for therapeutic intervention at a time when traditional
mental-health infrastructure has collapsed.} Source: https://qudsnen.co/post?id=66836&slug=gaza-engineers-and-therapists-turn-to-vr-as-trauma-reaches-all-children

{Top Israeli Official Says Israel Knew the Bibas Family Was Dead Since
2023 and That Hamas Didn’t Take Them, Yet Used Their Story to Fuel Gaza
Genocide Narrative
New testimony from a top Israeli official confirms Israel misled the
public for months about the Bibas family, using their deaths to shape
global opinion and justify the ongoing genocide in Gaza.
Occupied Palestine (QNN)- Israel knew since November 2023 that the Bibas
family had been killed, most likely in an Israeli airstrike. Despite
this, Israeli officials continued to tell the public that the Bibas
children were alive in Gaza, said an Israeli official. The case became
one of the most emotional pillars of Israel’s narrative during the war.
The confirmation came from Nitzan Alon, the former head of Israel’s POWs
and Missing Persons Headquarters. In a new interview, Alon said Israeli
intelligence identified the kidnappers early and established that Hamas
had not taken the family. “We knew who kidnapped them,” Alon said. “We
informed Hamas who the kidnappers were, so they could locate them and
recover the bodies.” His statements indicate that Israel had accurate
information about the family’s fate months before disclosing any
details. While intelligence units placed the Bibas family in the “Most
Probably Dead” (MPD) category shortly after October 7, Israeli officials
continued to use their case to portray Hamas as holding infants captive.
The Bibas children became a core symbol in Israel’s rhetoric and media
coverage. Alon’s remarks contradict that portrayal and show that
authorities maintained a misleading narrative even after receiving
strong evidence that the family had died. According to Alon, Hamas
struggled to find the Bibas family because they were never in its
custody. Israeli intelligence passed the kidnappers’ identities to Hamas
to help locate the bodies. He tied Hamas’s difficulties to internal
chaos following October 7, noting that negotiators understood the
disorganization during early hostage-related talks. Images of the
red-haired Bibas children were used widely in Israeli public discourse.
Officials referenced the case in speeches, interviews, and diplomatic
efforts. Alon’s disclosures now raise questions about how the government
used the family’s story even after it knew the truth. Alon described how
Israel established new classifications for missing persons after October
7, including the MPD category used for cases with strong evidence of
death. The Bibas family fell into that category early, according to
intelligence assessments. He also said intelligence units from the
military and the Shin Bet were activated overnight on October 7, and
their findings quickly pointed toward the family’s death.} Source: https://qudsnen.co/post?id=66834&slug=top-israeli-official-says-israel-knew-the-bibas-family-was-dead-since-2023-and-that-hamas-didnt-take-them-yet-used-their-story-to-fuel-gaza-genocide-narrative

Videoscreen grab: rafah crossing fears
Al Jazeera - Dec 6, 2025
{Arab, Muslim nations reject Israel exit-only plan for Gaza’s Rafah
crossing
Foreign ministers slam Israel’s breach of the ceasefire, and its one-way
exit plan which aims to ‘displace Palestinian people from their land’.
Gaza mediators Egypt and Qatar, and six other Muslim-majority countries
have raised the alarm over Israel’s stated plan for a one-way opening of
the Rafah border crossing, which would allow Palestinians to leave their
territory, but not to return, and block the entry of humanitarian aid.
Their warning comes as Israel’s genocidal war on Gaza continues
unabated, with some 600 violations of the ceasefire in the last seven
weeks, and reports that three people were killed in the latest round of
attacks on Saturday in the northern town of Beit Lahiya. The foreign
ministers of Egypt, Indonesia, Jordan, Pakistan, Qatar, Saudi Arabia,
Turkiye and the United Arab Emirates issued a joint statement on Friday
that expressed “deep concern” over a recent Israeli military
announcement that the “Rafah Crossing will open in the coming days
exclusively for the exit of residents from the Gaza Strip to Egypt”. The
announcement, which breaches Israeli obligations under the first phase
of a United States-led peace plan, was made on Wednesday by an Israeli
military unit called the Coordination of Government Activities in the
Territories (COGAT), stating that one-way crossing would be allowed with
Israeli “security approval” in coordination with Egypt. However, Egypt
and its cosignatories slammed the plan, expressing their “complete
rejection of any attempts to displace the Palestinian people from their
land” and stressing the need for Israel to fully comply with US
President Donald Trump’s 20-point plan, which calls for the Rafah
crossing to be opened in both directions.
The Rafah crossing has been mostly closed throughout the war.
Since the October 10 ceasefire took effect under Trump’s plan, Israeli
authorities have stalled on reopening it to allow desperately needed aid
to enter and people requiring medical treatment to leave, citing Hamas’s
failure to return the bodies of all captives and the need for
coordination with Egypt. Only one captive’s body remains in Gaza, and
retrieval has been hampered by the widespread destruction of the enclave
under Israeli bombardment. The ministers said they appreciated Trump’s
peace efforts, which foresee the formation of a technocratic Palestinian
government supported by a multinational stabilisation force under the
supervision of an international “board of peace”, insisting that his
plan move forward “without delay or obstruction”. They urged that
conditions be established allowing the Palestinian Authority to “resume
its responsibilities in Gaza”, calling for “sustainable peace” that
would enable the two-state solution to be rolled out, with “an
independent Palestinian state on the June 4, 1967 borders, including
Gaza and the West Bank, with East Jerusalem as its capital”. Gaza
featured prominently at the Doha Forum on Saturday, an annual diplomatic
conference in Qatar, with Qatari Prime Minister Sheikh Mohammed bin
Abdulrahman Al Thani saying that the two-month ceasefire was at a
“critical moment”. “We cannot consider it yet a ceasefire. A ceasefire
cannot be completed unless there is a full withdrawal of the Israeli
forces, (and) there is stability back in Gaza,” he said. Also speaking
at the conference, Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan said that
negotiations over the Gaza international stabilisation force (ISF)
remained ongoing, including its mandate and rules of engagement, and
that its main objective should be to separate Israelis and Palestinians
along the border. Arab and other Muslim countries, which had expressed
interest in providing troops for an ISF, had insisted the US include
more defined language about Palestinian self-determination in the plan
before a United Nations Security Council vote last month. Israeli
attempts to stymie the move failed.
Attacks continue despite ceasefire
Meanwhile, Israel kept up intense attacks on Gaza overnight into
Saturday morning, killing three people in a drone strike in the northern
town of Beit Lahiya, where it was carrying out a demolition operation.
Reporting from Gaza City, Al Jazeera’s Hani Mahmoud said the victims
were part of a group of family members who had been travelling to
inspect their farm in the northern part of the Strip. Mahmoud said that
Israeli sources had claimed the family had breached the so-called yellow
line designating the area to which Israeli troops have withdrawn under
the truce, but that members had not been aware they were in a “dangerous
and restricted” zone. In other attacks, Israel pummelled Gaza with at
least 20 air strikes across the enclave, including eastern Gaza city,
the centrally located Maghazi refugee camp and the southern city of
Rafah. There were also reports of artillery shelling and heavy fire from
tanks and aircraft in areas where the Israeli military is currently
stationed east of Khan Younis and Rafah. Israeli gunboats attacked
Palestinian fishing boats off the coast of Khan Younis, amid heavy
gunfire and shelling. The Israeli army continues to control the southern
and eastern belts of the Strip, along with large parts of northern Gaza,
spanning more than 50 percent of the enclave’s total area. Israel’s
genocidal war on Gaza has killed at least 70,125 Palestinians and
wounded 171,015 since October 2023.} Video - Source: https://www.aljazeera.com/news/2025/12/6/arab-muslim-nations-reject-israels-exit-only-plan-for-rafah-crossing

Qassam Barghouti
Quds News - Dec 5, 2025
{Qassam Barghouti: Israeli Forces Broke My Father’s Teeth and Ribs, Cut
His Ear, and Broke His Fingers “For Fun”
Qassam Barghouti says Israeli forces broke his father Marwan’s teeth and
ribs, cut his ear, and crushed his fingers “for fun.” His family fears a
dangerous plan to kill the jailed Palestinian leader.
Occupied Palestine (QNN)- Qassam Barghouti said on Friday that Israeli
forces broke his father Marwan Barghouti’s teeth and ribs, cut part of
his ear, and broke his fingers “in stages, for fun.” Qassam said he woke
up to the call by a freed detainee and felt shocked, terrified, and
helpless as he heard the details. He wrote on Facebook: “What do I do?
Who do I speak to? Where do we go? We live with this nightmare every
day. My father is 66. Where can he find the strength to survive this?”
The Palestinian Prisoners’ Club warned of a “dangerous plan” to
assassinate Marwan Barghouti inside Israeli prisons. Israel detained him
in 2002 and sentenced him to five life terms. He remains one of the most
influential and popular Palestinian leaders. Amjad al-Najjar, the
director of the Prisoners’ Club, said the violent escalation against
Barghouti comes as international voices rise to demand his release. He
said this pattern shows that the Israeli government wants “to get rid of
him while he is in custody,” which he described as a serious crime and a
violation of international humanitarian law. The fear grows after
Israeli National Security Minister Itamar Ben Gvir stormed Barghouti’s
cell in February. Hebrew media published video of him threatening to
kill the detained leader. In October, US President Donald Trump said he
would decide whether to push for Barghouti’s release, but he has not
announced anything yet.
Many Palestinians and international figures see Barghouti as a leader
who could unite the Palestinian public and restart efforts toward a
two-state solution, an idea rejected by Israel. Israel released
thousands of detainees and hostages in exchange deals, including during
the ceasefire that began on October 10. But it continues to refuse the
release of Barghouti and other high-profile detainees. The torture of
Palestinian detainees and hostages escalated during Israel’s two-year
genocide in Gaza. The genocide killed more than 70,000 Palestinians and
wounded over 171,000, most of them women and children. More than 10,000
Palestinian hostages remain in Israeli jails. Children and women are
among them. Rights groups say they face torture, starvation, and medical
neglect that already killed dozens.} Source: https://qudsnen.co/post?id=66832&slug=qassam-barghouti-israeli-forces-broke-my-fathers-teeth-and-ribs-cut-his-ear-and-broke-his-fingers-for-fun

Palestinian Prisoners Face Harsh Conditions
Quds News - Dec 5, 2025
{Palestinian Prisoners in Israeli Jails Face Harsh Conditions, Including
Hunger and Massive Overcrowding: Israeli Legal Office
Palestinian prisoners in Israeli jails are facing harsh detention
conditions, including severe hunger, massive overcrowding, and poor
sanitary conditions.
Occupied Palestine (QNN)- Palestinian prisoners in Israeli jails are
facing harsh detention conditions, including severe hunger, massive
overcrowding, and poor sanitation, according to a report by Israel’s
public defender’s office. The report said reduced food allotments for
Palestinian prisoners introduced after the October 7 attacks on Israel
have led to “severe hunger, manifested in sharp weight loss and
accompanying physical symptoms including extreme physical weakness and
even fainting”, according to the Israeli newspaper Haaretz. According to
Haaretz, the public defender’s report, based on visits to Israeli
detention facilities in 2023 and 2024 such as Ramon, Megiddo, Ayalon,
Shatta, Eshel and Ketziot, revealed that the conditions have
deteriorated sharply since Israel began its genocidal war in Gaza in
October 2023.
Severe Hunger
It found that the Israel Prison Service (IPS) introduced a separate,
sparse menu for “security prisoners”, which is used to describe mostly
Palestinian prisoners, leaving many malnourished. Released prisoners
told media outlets and rights groups that meals sometimes consisted of a
tiny portion of undercooked rice shared between several inmates for an
entire day, while others went days without food. The report described
the resulting hunger as “severe, manifested in extreme weight loss and
associated physical symptoms, including extreme weakness and fainting”.
During visits, representatives repeatedly observed signs of severe
malnutrition and dehydration, with many inmates appearing dangerously
thin.
Systematic Abuse
The report also highlighted widespread and systematic violence by prison
staff. Prisoners reported frequent cell searches accompanied by
unnecessary physical abuse, and beatings during transfers between wings,
when being brought to court appearances and other instances. The Public
Defender noted that the violence was not provoked by any specific events
requiring force.
Overcrowding
The Public Defender’s Office said Israeli forces launched a sweeping
arrest campaign after the Gaza war began in 2023, pushing the prison
system into extreme overcrowding. The number of detainees held by the
IPS rose by 3,000 in just two months. By the end of 2024, the prison
population had reached around 23,000 inmates - Palestinian and criminal
- despite an official capacity of 14,500, creating what the report
described as unprecedented overcrowding. Around 90 percent of
Palestinian prisoners were confined to living spaces of less than three
square metres, and thousands had no bed. Prisoners were often “held for
23 hours a day in severe overcrowding, many sleeping on mattresses on
the floor,” the report said. They were kept in dark, poorly ventilated
cells with stifling conditions and inadequate sanitation. Cells were
stripped of all belongings except a Quran, and inmates struggled to
maintain hygiene due to shortages of basic items such as toilet paper,
soap and towels. The report also noted scabies outbreaks in several
Palestinian wings, at times reaching near-epidemic levels.
Despite Ceasefire, These Conditions Continue
According to several Palestinian prisoner-monitoring groups, these
conditions have persisted even after the Gaza ceasefire was signed last
month. There are currently more than 10,800 Palestinians held in Israeli
jails, including 450 children, 87 women, and 3,629 held without charge
or trial.
Palestinian Detainees Die in Israeli Custody
Palestinian prisoner advocacy groups confirmed on Thursday that three
Palestinaina abducted from Gaza during the genocide died in Israeli
jails amid reports of torture and medical negligence. Their deaths bring
the total number of Palestinians who have died in Israeli custody since
October 7, 2023, to 84, including 50 from Gaza, the groups added. The
noted that the period since October 2023 has seen an "unprecedented"
rise in the "systematic crimes practised in [Israeli] prisons," making
it the "bloodiest in the history of the prisoner movement since 1967".
This brings the total number of Palestinians who have died in Israeli
custody since 1967 to 321. However, they noted that the true figure is
likely higher, as dozens of detainees abducted from Gaza are subjected
to enforced disappearance. The organisations said Palestinian prisoners
continue to die in detention due to torture, starvation, medical
neglect, sexual assault, and systematic violations of human rights.
Testimonies confirm regular beatings by Israeli guards, extreme
overcrowding, humiliation, and inadequate hygiene.} Source: https://qudsnen.co/post?id=66830&slug=palestinian-prisoners-in-israeli-jails-face-harsh-conditions-including-hunger-and-massive-overcrowding-israeli-legal-office

describing him as a “collaborator with Israel” who “deserved this fate.”
On Thursday, it was confirmed that Yasser Abu Shabab was killed in

Children in Gaza City attend a makeshift movie screening-Screengrab-Al
Jazeera
Al Jazeera - Dec 5, 2025
{Makeshift movie screenings in Gaza City bring children ‘out of the
ruin’
The initiative is helping Gaza’s children ‘glimpse a better reality’,
says Palestinian filmmaker Mustafa al-Nabih. Children in Gaza City,
traumatised from more than two years of mass bombardment and
displacement, the loss of family, friends and the destruction of their
homes and schools in Israel’s genocidal war on Gaza, are getting a brief
reprieve through a local cinema initiative. Volunteers have set up a
makeshift screen in one of the city’s displacement camps to show films,
offering children a rare space to have fun and experience moments of
normalcy and solace despite the war and ongoing ceasefire violations by
Israel. “We’re here trying to present so many activities for children to
live in a positive vibe,” said Minass al-Jabour, the initiative’s media
coordinator. “So we are trying to make them skip the scenes, the hard
scenes that they were living during the war in Gaza.” Israeli attacks in
Gaza have killed at least 20,000 children and left tens of thousands
more injured since October 7, 2023, according to Gaza’s health
authorities. At least 55,000 children have lost one or both parents.
With 92 percent of the enclave’s schools severely damaged or destroyed,
most children have had no access to formal education for two years. For
many, the screenings offer the first chance to watch a movie since the
conflict began.

“This is something new for me. I came out of the war, and they are
giving us many activities, including cinema … and we really enjoyed it,”
Sara Abu Sharbi, a displaced girl in the camp, told Al Jazeera, against
a backdrop of flimsy tents and rubble-strewn buildings.
Palestinian filmmaker Mustafa al-Nabih, who is also taking part in the
initiative, said he believes art, like cinema, is a way for children to
hold on to hope and imagination. “A child who has seen so much blood and
loss can, through cinema, glimpse a better reality,” said al-Nabih.
“Cinema transports a child into a world of imagination, love and beauty.
It moves their mind, lets them reach for a distant horizon, and shows
them colours, stories, and moments that take them out of the ruin around
them,” he said.} Video - Source: https://www.aljazeera.com/news/2025/12/5/makeshift-movie-screenings-in-gaza-city-bring-children-out-of-the-ruin

Boycott Eurovision 2026
Quds News - Dec 4, 2025
{Ireland, Spain, the Netherlands, and Slovenia to Boycott Eurovision
2026 Following Israel’s Participation
Ireland, Spain, the Netherlands and Slovenia will boycott the 2026
Eurovision Song Contest, after Israel was allowed to compete over Gaza
genocide.
Geneva (QNN)- Ireland, Spain, the Netherlands and Slovenia will boycott
the 2026 Eurovision Song Contest, after Israel was allowed to compete.
They were among a number of countries who had called for Israel to be
excluded over the genocide in Gaza. No vote on Israel’s participation
was held on Thursday at the general assembly of the European
Broadcasting Union (EBU), the body that organises the competition. “A
large majority of members agreed that there was no need for a further
vote on participation and that the Eurovision song contest 2026 should
proceed as planned, with the additional safeguards in place,” the EBU
said in a statement. In response, the Irish broadcaster RTÉ said it
would not participate in the 2026 contest or broadcast the competition.
“RTÉ feels that Ireland’s participation remains unconscionable given the
appalling loss of lives in Gaza and the humanitarian crisis there, which
continues to put the lives of so many civilians at risk,” the
broadcaster said in a statement. The Spanish broadcaster RTVE also said
it would not broadcast the contest or the semi-finals in Vienna next
year, describing the process of decision-making as “insufficient” and
engendering “distrust”. In a statement, Dutch broadcaster Avrotros said
that "participation under the current circumstances is incompatible with
the public values that are essential to us". Spanish broadcaster RTVE
added: "The board of directors of RTVE agreed last September that Spain
would withdraw from Eurovision if Israel was part of it." "This
withdrawal also means that RTVE will not broadcast the Eurovision 2026
final... nor the preliminary semi-finals." Slovenia's broadcaster RTV
added that their position also "remains unchanged" and said the move
came “on behalf of the 20,000 children who died in Gaza”. "The recent
rule changes do not alter our view. As a public service broadcaster, RTV
Slovenia is committed to upholding ethical principles and expects that
equal rules and standards apply to all EBU members and all participating
countries." Iceland's RÚV was one of the public broadcasters calling for
Israel to be banned from next year's contest in Vienna. It has not yet
decided whether it will boycott the 2026 show. RÚV's board says it will
make the decision next Wednesday. Belgium's broadcaster said it would
"take a position in the coming days". The Spanish national broadcaster,
along with seven other countries, had formally requested a secret ballot
at a summit of broadcasters in Geneva on Thursday. “The EBU presidency
has denied RTVE’s request for a specific vote on Israel’s participation.
This decision increases RTVE’s distrust of the festival’s organisation
and confirms the political pressure surrounding it,” it said in a
statement. Spain’s culture minister, Ernest Urtasun, backed the boycott.
He said: “You can’t whitewash Israel given the genocide in Gaza. Culture
should be on the side of peace and justice. I’m proud of an RTVE that
puts human rights before any economic interest.” At the meeting on
Thursday, EBU members discussed new rules designed to stop governments
and third parties from promoting songs to influence voters. “The
situation in Gaza, despite the ceasefire and the approval of the peace
process, and the use of the contest for political goals by Israel, make
it increasingly difficult to keep Eurovision a neutral cultural event,”
RTVE secretary-general, Alfonso Morales, said in a statement. The EBU
excluded Russia from the competition shortly after its invasion of
Ukraine in 2022. Recent editions of Eurovision have been overshadowed by

{Sharp Rise in Israeli Soldier Suicides Since Gaza Genocide Began, Army
Data Show
New army data show a steep jump in suicides among Israeli soldiers since
the Gaza genocide began, with cases nearly doubling over two years.
Occupied Palestine (QNN)- Official data from the Israeli army show a
sharp and alarming rise in suicide cases among Israeli soldiers since
the Gaza genocide began on October 7, 2023. The numbers reflect deep
psychological pressure linked directly to assaults in Gaza. According to
the army’s figures, 7 soldiers died by suicide between October 7 and the
end of 2023. In 2024, the number jumped to 21 suicides. Since the start
of 2025, at least 20 soldiers have killed themselves. Before the
genocide, the annual average was around 12 cases. The current numbers
almost double that rate over the past two years. Army officials link
this rise to the massive expansion of troop deployment. This includes
regular forces and large numbers of reservists. Many soldiers also faced
intense close-range confrontations inside Gaza, which "created severe
emotional and psychological strain." The Israeli army says internal
analysis shows a drop in suicides tied to personal issues and a rise in
cases connected to "combat trauma" and battlefield stress. On Thursday,
Haaretz reported the suicide of a Givati Brigade reservist. The
newspaper said the officer suffered deep psychological distress after
his involvement in the Gaza genocide. The soldier, Thomas Edzgousks, was
28 years old. The army discharged him in 2024 because of mental health
injuries. He was undergoing procedures to receive official recognition
as a soldier with post-combat trauma. Authorities found his body in a
park in occupied Asdood. He left a message that read: “I can’t do this
anymore. I did unforgivable things. A demon has chased me since October
7. Please forget me.” Haaretz reported that he struggled with severe
psychological distress for nearly two years and received both therapy
and medication. Experts say Edzgousks’ case is not isolated. They
describe it as a clear sign of the growing mental-health collapse among
soldiers who took part in the Gaza genocide. Families of former soldiers
and trauma-care specialists warn that the official army data do not show
the full picture. Organizations working with PTSD cases estimate that
the real number of suicides is much higher, especially among discharged
soldiers who are not included in official statistics. Haaretz documented
at least 15 suicides among discharged soldiers since the genocide began,
all linked to psychological injuries from Gaza. During the same period,
5 Israeli police officers also killed themselves. The newspaper says
many of these cases remain “in the shadows” and receive no formal
recognition as service-related deaths. Israel, armed and politically
backed by the United States, launched a genocide against Gaza on October
7, 2023. The assault has killed more than 70,000 Palestinians and
wounded over 171,000, most of them women and children. A ceasefire
agreement took effect on October 10 of last year. Israel violates it
every day. The ongoing attacks continue to kill and injure hundreds.
Israel also blocks adequate food and medicine from entering Gaza,
deepening the humanitarian catastrophe.} Source: https://qudsnen.co/post?id=66833&slug=sharp-rise-in-israeli-soldier-suicides-since-gaza-genocide-began-army-data-show
