Hind Rajab
{Group urges Spain to arrest Israeli soldier accused of Gaza war crimes
The Hind Rajab Foundation (HRF) says it filed a criminal complaint in
Spain requesting the “urgent arrest” of Benayau Nahum, an Israeli
soldier it accused of war crimes in the Gaza Strip. HRF said Nahum
served in the 97th Netzah Yehuda Battalion of the 900th Kfir Brigade,
which it said was involved in the destruction of northern Gaza’s Beit
Hanoon in late 2024 and early this year. “The evidence in HRF’s
possession places Benayau Nahum directly on the ground during these
operations,” it said. “It shows his participation in systematic
destruction of civilian infrastructure, including homes and public
buildings, at a time when Beit Hanoon was already largely depopulated
and defenseless.” The Hind Rajab Foundation has sought multiple
international arrest warrants for Israeli military members, as well as
political leaders, for alleged involvement in war crimes in Gaza.
& Germany’s Merz says second Gaza ceasefire phase must begin now
German Chancellor Friedrich Merz has praised the ceasefire in the Gaza
Strip following talks with King Abdullah in the Jordanian city of Aqaba.
“We share relief that the ceasefire in Gaza has stabilised after more
than two months. But now, the start of the second phase must begin. This
includes that we finally remove the support base for Hamas’s terror,”
Merz said. He called for more humanitarian aid in Gaza before winter.
Israel continues to block crucial items such as tents, tarpaulins, and
blankets. It also continues deadly attacks on Gaza with more than 360
Palestinians killed since the ceasefire began on October 10. On the
occupied West Bank, the chancellor said Berlin is not losing sight of
the situation and ongoing settlement expansion, adding, “There can be no
steps towards annexation in the West Bank.” Following his visit, Merz
flew to West Jerusalem and was welcomed by Israeli President Isaac
Herzog. He’ll meet Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu on Sunday.
& Israeli forces seize tractor in Qalqilya, occupied West Bank
Israeli soldiers seized a farm tractor east of Qalqilya in the occupied
West Bank. The Wafa news agency, citing local sources, reported Israeli
troops stormed the northern area of the town of Azzun, east of
Qalqilya, and seized the tractor belonging to Palestinian farmer
Muhammad Ayman Majd after detaining him for hours. Earlier, Israeli
forces arrested five young men from the town of Azzun, east of Qalqilya,
after raiding their homes.
& Norway urges swift deployment of international stabilisation force
Norway’s Foreign Minister Espen Barth Eide says the Gaza stabilisation
force and Board of Peace must be put in place this month, adding the
current ceasefire is “fragile and cannot hold for many more weeks in its
current phase”. Speaking at the Doha Forum in Qatar, he said the
international military contingent needs to function as a peacekeeping
force. The international stabilisation force is envisioned as a
multinational unit that would deploy to Gaza to secure the borders,
maintain security by helping demilitarise Gaza, to help train police,
and protect civilians and humanitarian operations, including securing
humanitarian corridors.
What countries will contribute troops for the force has yet to be
decided.
& Settlers attack homes in Kisan, east of Bethlehem
Israelis from illegal settlements opened fire on citizens’ homes in the
village of Kisan, east of Bethlehem, in the occupied West Bank. Wafa
news agency, citing security sources, reported that settlers under the
protection of the army stormed Kisan, attacked Palestinian homes, and
fired live ammunition. So far, no injuries have been reported. Kisan has
witnessed frequent assaults by Israelis from illegal settlements,
including attacks on homes and the theft of livestock.

Qassam Barghouti
Concerns rise over jailed Palestinian political figure Marwan Barghouti
Palestinian groups have expressed “grave concerns” about the safety of
jailed political figure Marwan Barghouti after his son reported
receiving a call about Israeli guards allegedly torturing the popular
leader in an Israeli prison. Qassam Barghouti made the statement on
Facebook on Friday, but later deleted the post, saying he was trying to
obtain information about his father’s health from relevant agencies. In
the deleted post, Qassam said he received a call from a person
identifying himself as a Palestinian prisoner, adding prison guards
beaten his father severely, leaving him “physically shattered”. The
person, who called from an Israeli number, said the guards broke
Barghouti’s ribs and teeth and cut off part of his ear for
“entertainment”, according to Qassam.
& Rights group decries ‘international silence’ as Israel restricts
Gaza aid
Israeli human rights group B’Tselem says the international community has
continued to “neglect its responsibilities” as Israel maintains
restrictions on the free-flow of aid to the Gaza Strip, including winter
essentials such as tents and blankets. The group noted colder winter
temperatures and heavy rain have worsened already dire living conditions
for displaced Palestinians across the Strip. Last month, about 13,000
tents were destroyed and more than 740,000 Palestinians were affected by
storms, BTselem said in a social media post. “Rainwater mixed with raw
sewage, creating fertile ground for infection and disease, and leaving
hundreds of thousands without basic shelter. Children were documented in
summer clothing and barefoot in the cold due to the lack of warm
clothes,” it said. “This is the reality in Gaza today: a winter without
shelter, profound hunger, and living conditions that continue to
deteriorate. This is a direct result of Israeli policy and international
silence.”
& Israeli forces arrest 5 men in the occupied West Bank
Israeli forces have arrested five young men from the town of Azzun, east
of Qalqilya, in the occupied West Bank. The Wafa news agency, citing
local sources, reported that soldiers stormed the town and arrested two
brothers, Ibrahim and Muhammad Khalil Sweidan. Mahmoud Tayseer Sweidan,
Ahmed Taleb Nassar, and Muhammad Ayman Majd were also detained after
troops raided and searched their homes. Israeli soldiers also assaulted
the town of Kafr Thulth, south of Qalqilya, with no injuries reported.
& Qatar and Egypt call for rapid deployment of Gaza stabilisation
force
The call comes after Qatari Prime Minister Sheikh Mohammed bin
Abdulrahman bin Jassim Al Thani held talks with Egyptian Foreign
Minister Badr Abdelatty on the sidelines of the Doha Forum in Qatar’s
capital. The Egyptian Foreign Ministry said in a readout of the
discussions that the leaders emphasised the importance of continuing
efforts to implement the Gaza peace deal, to establish a ceasefire, and
to prevent any violations of the agreement. They also called for the
Gaza stabilisation force to be set up rapidly in the Palestinian enclave
and enabled to do its work.
& What is the ‘yellow line’ in Gaza?
Set out in the agreement between Israel and Hamas, the yellow line
refers to an unmarked boundary where the Israeli military repositioned
itself when the deal came into effect last month. It has allowed Israel
to retain control over more than half of the coastal territory. Since it
was first established, the Israeli military has on several occasions
moved the boundaries of the line, cutting families off from their homes.
It also routinely fires at Palestinians who approach the line, including
women and children. Many people in Gaza say it is extremely difficult to
know where the demarcation line sits, leaving them at risk of being
attacked.
& At least 7 people killed in Israeli attacks across northern Gaza
At least seven people have been killed by Israeli fire in Gaza City and
northern areas as Israel continues attacks across the so-called yellow
line truce demarcation. Health officials said Israeli fire killed the
Palestinians in Beit Lahiya, Jabalia, and Zeitoun in northern Gaza,
including a 70-year-old woman gunned down by an attack drone strike....
& Israeli drone chases and kills 70-year-old Palestinian woman and
son
Just in the past 30 minutes, there was a confirmed attack by an Israeli
quadcopter that chased a 70-year-old woman and her son, 25, as they
walked in an area about 1km (half a mile) away from the “yellow line” –
deep in Gaza City. They were hunted by the drone that fired and killed
both of them. They were left there to bleed to death, and nobody from
the surrounding area was able to get to them because the quadcopter was
still hovering. This is just one of many violations throughout the day
and throughout the past 50 days since the truce came into effect. Many
people in most of these areas do not see the yellow line because it’s
not clear. It’s not visible. There are no clear markings or signage to
show this is the ceasefire demarcation that is a restricted and
dangerous area.

Israel’s evolving starvation of Gaza
& Ceasefire death toll hits 367 as bodies arrive at Gaza’s hospitals
Six bodies, including five recovered from the rubble and one new death,
as well as 15 wounded Palestinians arrived at Gaza’s hospitals over the
past 48 hours.
In a situational update, the Health Ministry said on Telegram that since
the ceasefire started with Israel on October 11, at least 367 people
have been killed, 953 wounded, and 624 bodies recovered.
Overall, since the war began in October 2023, Israeli attacks have
killed 70,354 Palestinians and wounded 171,030.
& Israeli settlers attack Palestinians near East Jerusalem, Hebron
More Israeli settler attacks have taken place in the occupied West Bank,
the Palestinian news agency Wafa reports, amid a surge in violence
across the area in the shadow of Israel’s Gaza war. Settlers attacked
Palestinian Bedouin shepherds near Khan al-Ahmar, east of East
Jerusalem, and prevented them from accessing their land. A gang of
settlers also released their cows into Palestinian olive fields near the
East Jerusalem-area village of Mekhmas before trying to attack nearby
homes, Wafa reported. Separately, in the south of the West Bank, Israeli
settlers attacked a family in the Khallet al-Natsh area east of Hebron.
More than 1,000 Palestinians have been killed by Israeli troops and
settlers in the occupied West Bank since the Gaza war began, according
to United Nations figures. Analysts say the violence is part of a
concerted push to force Palestinians out of their homes and communities.
& Israeli army says 3 people killed allegedly crossing ‘yellow line’
The Israeli army announced three people were killed in two separate
incidents earlier. In a post on Telegram, the army said it identified
people who crossed the “yellow line” and posed an alleged threat to
soldiers. The troops then opened fire and killed three people. Since the
ceasefire began on October 10, the Israeli army has killed more than 360
people and wounded hundreds in near-daily violations.
& Palestinians flee eastern Gaza City as Israeli forces launch
attack
By Hani Mahmoud - Reporting from Gaza City
Violations of the ceasefire are becoming the daily norm for many
Palestinians here. In the past couple of hours, heavy machine-gun fire
and the dense presence of drones could be heard where we are
broadcasting from. The confirmation we have from a source on the ground
is that the Israeli military pushed its tanks and armoured vehicles,
along with bulldozers, deeper into the western areas of Gaza City.
That’s about 300 to 500 metres (330-550 yards) beyond the original
“yellow line”, right at the edge of Salah al-Din Street. That means more
areas are under Israeli military control, and it has started to set up
these sand barriers, isolating the entire eastern part of Gaza City.
People are fleeing from that area into the central part of the city.

Israeli ceasefire violations- Attacks in Rafah, khan Younis and Gaza
city
{Former PLO official slams Israel’s plan for one-way out Rafah crossing
Hanan Ashrawi, a former member of the Palestine Liberation
Organization’s executive committee, has slammed Israel’s “unilateral
decision” to open Gaza’s southern Rafah crossing with Egypt, but only
for Palestinians seeking to leave the enclave. The move “is not only a
violation of the ‘ceasefire’ but also a disingenuous & cruel tool
for the ethnic cleansing of Gaza”, Ashrawi wrote on social media. Israel
said this week the crossing would be opened in the coming days, but
Palestinians would not be allowed back into the Strip. The ceasefire
deal reached last month stipulated that Israel must allow freedom of
movement both in and out of Gaza.
& UNRWA chief welcomes General Assembly vote renewing agency’s
mandate
Philippe Lazzarini, head of the UN agency for Palestinian refugees
(UNRWA), says the vote “reflects the broad solidarity of people across
the world” with Palestinian refugees. Earlier, the UN General Assembly
passed a resolution commending UNRWA for its role in supporting
Palestinian refugees. The motion extended the agency’s mandate until the
end of June 2029. The resolution passed with 151 votes in favour, 10
votes against, and 14 abstentions, the UN said in a statement. The 10
countries who voted against it were Argentina, Fiji, Hungary, Israel,
North Macedonia, Palau, Papua New Guinea, Paraguay, Tonga, and the
United States. Israel and its main ally the US have carried out an
unprecedented effort to dismantle UNRWA during the Israeli war on Gaza,
accusing the agency of supporting Hamas. Analysts say the attacks
against UNRWA – the main provider of humanitarian aid and other services
to Palestinians in the Strip – are part of a wider attempt to stamp out
the rights of Palestinian refugees.
& Nearly 100% of Gaza’s tree cropland destroyed since 2023
An analysis of the impact of Israel’s genocidal war on Gaza’s
agricultural landscape has found about 98 percent of all tree cropland
has been destroyed since October 2023. “Now, after 2 years, we see that
most of the greenhouses are gone and the remaining tree cover is largely
gone,” Mazin Qumsiyeh, a biologist at Bethlehem University and a
researcher on the project, told the science magazine Eos. He Yin, a
geographer and remote sensing researcher at Kent State University in
Ohio, said the scale of destruction of Gaza’s agricultural lands has few
parallels in modern history, including other conflicts he has studied
such as Syria and Chechnya. “This is unprecedented damage,” said Yin,
the lead researcher on the project. “I have never seen anything like
this.” Agriculture made up about 32 percent of land use in Gaza before
the war, and played a central role in the besieged enclave’s economy,
along with an important part of Palestinian cultural identity.
& Two Palestinians injured in Israeli raid outside of Ramallah
Two people have been wounded by shrapnel and gunfire during an Israeli
raid in the Jalazone refugee camp north of Ramallah in the occupied West
Bank. The Palestinian news service Wafa, citing local sources, said
clashes broke out as Israeli troops stormed the camp, firing tear gas,
sound grenades, and live ammunition. A 45-year-old man was shot in the
hand while another had his foot injured by shrapnel, it said.
& UN official paints grim picture of Gaza’s collapsed health sector
We have more from the UN Population Fund’s Nestor Owomuhangi, who
described recent conversations with Palestinian health workers in Gaza
providing care in extremely dire conditions and during harrowing
personal loss. “Gaza’s health system is still standing only because its
workers refuse to abandon it,” Owomuhangi said during a UN briefing. He
recalled how a doctor in a Gaza hospital’s maternity ward pointed to an
incubator holding two premature babies and warned, “Every complication
is now magnified by the fear of losing power.” “If the power cuts again,
I don’t know what will happen,” Owomuhangi said the doctor told him. A
Palestinian midwife said, despite losing her sister and her home in
Israel’s genocidal war on Gaza, she’s continuing to work because other
women need her. “Meanwhile, she has not been paid in months,” Owomuhangi
said.

A Grieving Wife-Mother
& Palestinians in Gaza ‘suspended between survival and uncertainty’
Nestor Owomuhangi, the UN Population Fund’s representative to Palestine,
says the truce between Israel and Hamas “was desperately needed but it
is not an end to the war for women and girls” in the Gaza Strip.
Speaking during a UN briefing via video-link from Gaza, Owomuhangi said
most Palestinian families in the enclave are living in overcrowded
shelters “where hunger and disease threaten daily”. “More than 57,000
households in Gaza are now headed by women. Many of them are deeply
vulnerable with no income to support their children,” he said, adding
winter rain and flooding have worsened peoples’ suffering. “People no
longer ask for warmth, education or proper food. They ask for a tent, a
small heater, or a light. Their expectations have collapsed, as
devastating as any destroyed building.”
& Israeli assault in occupied West Bank fuels new displacement
crisis: UN
Intensified Israeli army raids in northern West Bank areas have caused
displacement, school closures, and disruptions to local services, a
spokesperson for UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres says. “Over
95,000 Palestinians were affected by expanded operations by Israeli
forces in the northern area in recent days, particularly in Jenin and
Tubas governorate,” Stephane Dujarric told reporters in New York City.
At the same time, Dujarric said Israeli settler attacks have continued
“unabated” in the West Bank, with at least 1,680 violent incidents that
caused casualties or property damage documented by the UN’s humanitarian
office so far this year. Settler violence has affected more than 270
Palestinian communities across the occupied West Bank. “That’s an
average of five incidents per day,” Dujarric added.
& Israeli ‘suicide drone’ wounds 2 Palestinians in northern Gaza
Israel’s military has attacked the al-Faluja area, near the Jabalia
refugee camp, with an exploding drone wounding to people, the Quds News
Network reports. The drone strike is one of a series of attacks launched
by Israel’s army on Friday despite the US-brokered ceasefire with Hamas.
Since the October 10 truce took effect, at least 366 Palestinians have
been killed and 938 wounded, according to Gaza’s Health Ministry.
Israel’s genocidal war on Gaza has killed at least 70,125 Palestinians
and wounded 171,015 since October 2023.

child amputees in modern history
& Gaza home to most ‘child amputees in modern history’: UNRWA chief
Philippe Lazzarini, head of the UN agency for Palestinian refugees
(UNRWA), says nearly 42,000 people in Gaza have suffered life-changing
wounds in Israel’s war – and nearly one-quarter of those are children.
“Gaza now hosts the largest group of child amputees in modern history,”
Lazzarini wrote. “With the collapse of the medical system during the
war, those with serious injuries struggle to get the treatment +
rehabilitation they need to rebuild their lives.” The World Health
Organization said in late October about 3,800 Palestinian children are
awaiting evacuation from Gaza to get access to urgent medical care.
& US shifts emphasis away from Middle East in new ‘security
strategy’
A new “security strategy” released by the Trump administration outlining
US foreign policy positions and priorities places less emphasis on the
Middle East but notes the Israel-Palestine conflict remains a regional
flashpoint. The document expressed optimism over deepening commercial
and trade ties and criticised, “America’s misguided experiment with
hectoring” Middle Eastern countries, saying the US should “encourage and
applaud reform when and where it emerges organically, without trying to
impose it”. While Trump has criticised the history of US interventionism
and attempts at nation-building in the region, he has continued to
provide countries such as Israel with large supplies of weapons and
dismissed concerns of human rights abuses by US allies as an obstacle to
greater investment and arms sales. The document noted the
“Israeli-Palestinian conflict remains thorny” and a “troublesome
dynamic” in the Middle East.

A Mothers grief
& ‘The killing of children must end now’: UNICEF
The UN’s child rights agency (UNICEF) says more than 70 Palestinian
children have been killed in Gaza since the truce came into effect last
month during continued Israeli attacks on the territory. “A ceasefire
must translate into genuine safety for children not more loss,” UNICEF
said in a social media post.
“Every child has the right to live. The killing of children must end
now.”

Palestinians forcibly expelled in occupied West Bank
& Palestinian man killed by Israeli forces in occupied West Bank
Palestine’s Health Ministry says a 38-year-old man has been shot dead by
Israeli soldiers in the town of Odala, south of Nablus, in the occupied
West Bank. The Palestine Red Crescent Society earlier said it treated a
man “who suffered a critical head injury” during clashes in Odala and it
was trying to resuscitate him. Israeli troops on patrol in the town
fired tear gas canisters at a group of people exiting a mosque after
Friday prayers, and the man was killed after clashes broke out. The
incident is the latest to underscore rising deadly violence against
Palestinian communities by Israeli forces and settlers in the occupied
West Bank.

Yellow Line
& Israeli army confirms deadly attack on Palestinians in north Gaza
The military says the Israeli Air Force launched an attack on two
Palestinians “carrying suspicious objects” and who approached troops in
northern Gaza. One of the Palestinians was killed in the attack, an army
said in a statement. It did not specify what exactly the “suspicious
objects” were or provide any additional information about the
Palestinians who were attacked. Israel has repeatedly opened fire on
Palestinians across Gaza despite a truce with Hamas that came into
effect last month. Many bombings have taken place near the so-called
yellow line, where Israeli forces have been redeployed in the enclave.
Last week, the Israeli military killed two Palestinian children –
brothers Juma and Fadi Tamer Abu Assi – in a drone attack in southern
Gaza. The army said the boys were “suspects” who crossed the yellow
line.
& Germany calls on Israel to cease occupied West Bank expansion
Germany has urged Israel “to stop settlement construction” in the
occupied West Bank ahead of Chancellor Friedrich Merz’s meeting with
Netanyahu in Israel this weekend. “We are, of course, following
developments very closely and have always said that they must comply
with the provisions of international law. We have repeatedly condemned
the massive violence perpetrated by settlers against Palestinian
civilians,” said Sebastian Hille, a government spokesperson, at a news
briefing in Berlin. “We reject any steps aimed at annexing the West
Bank. We see this as a significant obstacle on the path to a negotiated
two-state solution and the implementation of the peace plan,” he added.
Hille reiterated that the ongoing settlement construction in the
occupied Palestinian territories was a clear violation of international
law and “violates relevant resolutions of the UN Security Council”.
Tomorrow, the chancellor will travel to Jordan, where he will meet with
King Abdullah II before heading to Israel for his inaugural visit on
Sunday, during which he will discuss the fragile ceasefire in Gaza with
Netanyahu, among other topics.

Marwan Barghouti
& More details on Barghouti
A few more details on who Marwan Barghouti is, following reports that he
has been brutally beaten by prison guards in Israel. Barghouti, who is a
senior leader of President Mahmoud Abbas’s Fatah group, is viewed by
many as Palestine’s Nelson Mandela. He is serving five life sentences in
Israeli prisons on alleged charges related to attacks during the second
Intifada, which lasted from 2000 to 2005. Earlier this year, the
66-year-old, who has been subjected to brutal assaults repeatedly,
causing bodily harm while in prison, was taunted in his cell at Ganot
Prison in central Israel by far-right National Security Minister Itamar
Ben-Gvir. A video broadcast by Israel’s Channel 12 in August showed
Ben-Gvir telling the captive, “You won’t win.” It marked the first
sighting of Barghouti in years, with relatives noting his “shocking”
appearance caused by “exhaustion and hunger”. Barghouti is regarded as a
likely key player in the creation of any Palestinian state because of
his ability to unite various political factions. He is seen by many as
the last hope for a free Palestine. Fearing that he might die in
custody, Barghouti’s family launched the “Free Marwan” campaign. More
than 200 A-listers, from Margaret Atwood to Javier Bardem, are lending
their support.
& Marwan Barghouti’s son says his father was brutally assaulted by
Israeli prison guards
Qassam Barghouti, son of the Palestinian political figure and Fatah
leader Marwan Barghouti, has said that he received a call, informing him
that Israeli prison guards had brutally assaulted his father, leaving
him “physically shattered”. Barghouti’s son said that his father had his
ribs and teeth broken and a part of his ear cut off by prison guards
“for entertainment” in a social media post that appears to have been
deleted, according to The Times of Israel newspaper. The Palestinian
presidency said in a statement earlier today that it was aware of
unspecified “serious retaliatory measures” against Barghouti, stating
that Israeli authorities were “fully and directly responsible” for his
safety. The younger Barghouti said that the caller identified themselves
as a Palestinian prisoner who had been released, and that the call came
from an Israeli number. In a later post, Qassam said that he is trying
to obtain information about his father’s state from relevant agencies
and contact the person who initially called him, but has not been able
to do so. In recent days, Barghouti’s family have said that they fear
for his life and have launched a campaign calling for his release.
& Palestinian Authority condemns torture of Palestinian prisoners in
Israeli prisons
The office of the Palestinian presidency has released a statement
pointing to the widespread torture of Palestinians being held in Israeli
prisons and condemning what it called “serious retaliatory measures”
taken by Israeli authorities against imprisoned Palestinian political
leader Marwan Barghouti.
Barghouti, seen by many Palestinians as a popular figure who could
bridge divides within the Palestinian national movement, has been
subjected to harsh conditions in Israeli prison, and his family has
launched a global campaign calling for his release. “The Palestinian
Presidency warned of the serious and brutal violations to which
Palestinian prisoners in Israeli occupation prisons are subjected, which
affect their human dignity and threaten their lives in a blatant
violation of all international laws and conventions, foremost among them
the four Geneva Conventions,” the statement said.
& All you need to know about Israeli military and settler violence
in occupied West Bank
As we’ve just reported, a 38-year-old Palestinian man named Bahaa Rashid
has been killed by Israeli troops in a raid in the West Bank town of
Awarta, near Nablus. Rashid is the latest Palestinian killed in a wave
of intensified Israeli military and settler attacks across the area in
the shadow of Israel’s genocidal war on Gaza.
Here’s a quick look at what’s been happening:
At least 1,089 Palestinians, including 224 children, have been killed
and more than 10,881 others wounded in Israeli attacks in the West Bank
since Israel’s genocidal war on Gaza began on October 7, 2023. Of those
deaths, 254 Palestinians have been killed since the start of this year.
Nearly 21,000 Palestinians have been detained in a mass Israeli arrest
campaign across the West Bank since the Gaza war began.
As of December 1, at least 9,183 Palestinians were held in Israeli
jails, including 3,350 who were being held without charge.
Israel has confirmed that at least 81 Palestinian prisoners died in its
jails – though Palestinian human rights groups say the number could be
much higher.
Israeli settler attacks against Palestinians have also surged, with the
UN saying that this year’s olive harvest season was the most violent in
more than a decade.
UN experts and human rights groups say the attacks aim to forcibly
displace Palestinians from their homes and communities, as part of a
wider Israeli push to formally annex the West Bank.
& Israeli settlers attack Palestinians working on their land near
Tubas
Israeli settlers have attacked Palestinians as they were working on
their agricultural land in Khirbet Yarza, east of Tubas, according to
the Wafa news agency. The head of the Yirza village council, Mukhlis
Masa’id, said settlers attacked a number of people while working on
their land, beat them, and broke a number of olive trees. Masa’id added
that settler attacks against Palestinian citizens have increased as the
ploughing and planting of the land start in the rainy season of each
year.
& Israeli forces arrest Palestinian south of Nablus
Israeli forces arrested at least one Palestinian from Beita, south of
Nablus, after storming the town at dawn. The Wafa news agency, quoting
security sources, reported that soldiers raided and searched several
homes, arresting resident Muhannad Hamed Muhammad Hamayel.
& Palestinian man shot in head by Israeli forces near occupied West
Bank’s Nablus
Israeli forces have shot and injured a 34-year-old Palestinian man in
the head during a raid on the town of Awarta, south of Nablus in the
occupied West Bank, according to the Wafa news agency and a medical
source speaking to Al Jazeera. He was transferred to a hospital by the
Red Crescent, Wafa said. As we reported earlier, Israeli forces have
conducted raids and arrests across the illegally occupied territory
since dawn. At the same time, settlers have stormed farms near Umm Safa
village, northwest of Ramallah, releasing their livestock and raising
Israeli flags.

& Israeli ex-army official who leaked Sde Teiman abuse video
discharged from hospital
Yifat Tomer Yerushalmi was hospitalised a month ago after overdosing on
sleeping pills, according to Israeli media. Yerushalmi has been at the
centre of a legal scandal after admitting she had leaked a video
appearing to show Israeli soldiers abusing a Palestinian man held in the
Sde Teiman detention facility. After the former military officer
resigned, she was arrested on suspicion of misconduct and obstructing
justice, but then released for 10 days of house arrest. Soon after that,
on November 9, she was rushed to the hospital for the overdose. Citing a
police report, The Times of Israel newspaper reported that she would be
summoned for interrogation in the coming days. Her case triggered an
uproar among far-right politicians who accused her of undermining the
military, as well as a broader national debate on whether Israeli
soldiers should be tried for abusing Palestinians.

Israel Kills Two Children Every Day
& Explosions heard across Gaza
An Al Jazeera correspondent in Gaza has just sent an update on what has
been ongoing on the ground today. Here’s a rundown:
Gaza City: Explosions were reported east of the northern city following
demolition operations, sending a large cloud of smoke across the area. A
strike also hit near the so-called yellow line in the Tuffah
neighbourhood, where artillery shelling continues to target the eastern
area. Intense drone activity has been reported over western Gaza City,
with intermittent explosions heard throughout the morning.
Central Gaza: An air strike was reported east of the central
governorate, specifically near the Maghazi refugee camp.
Southern Gaza: Israeli naval vessels opened fire towards the coast of
Khan Younis, while air raids were also reported in the city of Rafah.

& At least 95,000 Palestinians affected by intensified Israeli
operations in northern West Bank
Every week, the UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs
(OCHA) issues an update on the humanitarian situation in the occupied
West Bank. Here are the key highlights of this week’s report:
Half of the 227 Palestinians killed by Israeli forces or settlers
between January 1 and December 1 in the West Bank were in Jenin
and Nablus governorates. Four were killed in the past week alone.
More than 95,000 Palestinians were affected by expanded operations by
Israeli forces in the northern West Bank this week, particularly in
Jenin and Tubas governorates.
The UN agency documented 1,680 attacks by Israeli settlers in more than
270 communities across the Palestinian territory so far this year – an
average of five incidents per day.
The olive harvest continues to be marked by widespread settler violence,
with 178 attacks documented in October and November in 88 communities.
& Israeli settlers plough Palestinian land southeast of Bethlehem
Israeli settlers have begun ploughing and planting land in the Khala’il
al-Luz area, southeast of Bethlehem, in the occupied West Bank. Resident
Ibrahim Suwaiss told the Wafa news agency that a group of settlers,
under the protection of the army, stormed land in the Sababa area,
located near Palestinian homes.
Settlers later used an agricultural tractor to plough land belonging to
resident Ibrahim Abdul Abayat and others from the Rayyan family,
planting it with grains.
The Khala’il al-Luz area has been subjected to repeated attacks and
assaults by soldiers and settlers for some time now, with the latest
incident including settlers firing shots at homes and injuring a woman
due to live fire.
& Art ‘extremely important’ for Palestinians in Gaza, says director
Ahmed Najar, Palestinian-British writer and director, says the cinema
project in Gaza, which screens films amid the rubble in Gaza City, is
“so important”. “For these children, they have lost almost everything,
their schools, their nurseries, their playgrounds. many of them lost
members of their families, including siblings, parents,” Najar told Al
Jazeera. “To give them that [the cinema project] is so extremely
important to help them survive the trauma … to give them a sense of
normality,” he added. Najar explained that art “matters more than ever
in the middle of a genocide”. “Its a matter of preserving your humanity
because the intent here is to strip you of your humanity and identity to
justify erasing you and killing,” he said. “So art, identity, culture
become extremely important,” Najar added.

& Makeshift movie screenings in Gaza City bring children ‘out of the
ruin’
Children in Gaza City, traumatised from more than two years of mass
bombardment and displacement, the loss of family, friends and the
destruction of their homes and schools in Israel’s genocidal war on
Gaza, are getting a brief reprieve through a local cinema initiative.
Volunteers have set up a makeshift screen in one of the city’s
displacement camps to show films, offering children a rare space to have
fun and experience moments of normalcy and solace despite the war and
ongoing ceasefire violations by Israel. “We’re here trying to present so
many activities for children to live in a positive vibe,” said Minass
al-Jabour, the initiative’s media coordinator. “So we are trying to make
them skip the scenes, the hard scenes that they were living during the
war in Gaza.”

& How many Palestinians serving life sentences remain in Israeli
prisons?
The Palestinian Prisoners’ Media Office (ASRA) says 114 prisoners
serving life sentences remain in Israeli prisons, out of about 600
prisoners who had been serving life sentences. Of these, 503 were
released in prisoner exchange deals between Hamas and Israel since the
genocidal war erupted in October 2023, the office said. Among the most
prominent prisoners still jailed are:
Abdullah Barghouti, sentenced to 67 life terms;
Ibrahim Hamed, sentenced to 57 life terms;
Hassan Salama, sentenced to 48 life terms.
All three are leaders of the Qassam Brigades, the armed wing of Hamas.
& Israeli forces launch dawn raid, arrest campaign in West Bank
The Palestinian Prisoners’ Media Office (ASRA) has reported that Israeli
forces launched raids and arrests in several governorates across the
occupied West Bank at dawn. The advocacy group said the operation
included the storming of Palestinian homes, vandalising their contents
and assaulting residents. A number of people were arrested in the dawn
campaign, including Ibrahim Adi Abu Jabal and Qais al-Ajouri from
Hebron, and Baraa Raed from Bethlehem.
& German opposition party slams Chancellor Merz’s visit to Israel
German opposition party, Die Linke (The Left), has criticised Chancellor
Friedrich Merz for his planned trip to Israel this weekend, where he
will meet with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu. “Merz’s trip
to Israel is a declaration of war on international law. He is meeting
with Benjamin Netanyahu even though there is an international arrest
warrant against him for alleged war crimes. A meeting with an alleged
war criminal is not a normal state visit,” said Left Party co-chair Jan
van Aken. He added that the resumption of German arms deliveries to
Israel, which were suspended in August, was “a political scandal”. Van
Aken explained that no weapons should be delivered as long as Israel
does not publicly support a separate Palestinian state.
& Israeli settlers carry out attacks in Jordan Valley and near
Ramallah
Israeli settlers have cut water pipelines in Khirbet ad-Dir in the
northern Jordan Valley in the occupied West Bank, according to the Wafa
news agency. The report quoted human rights activist Aref Daraghmeh as
saying that settlers cut water lines from one of the springs scattered
throughout the area, which belonged to resident Ammar Jihad Daraghmeh.
At the same time, the settlers also set fire to two vehicles and wrote
racist slogans during their attack on the village of Taybeh, east of
Ramallah.

attacks on Gaza
& Routine violence highlights daily struggles of Palestinian
families in Gaza
By Hani Mahmoud - Reporting from Gaza City
Even now that we are supposedly living during a ceasefire, where all
forms of violence should have stopped, they’re still happening daily.
There is a routine that starts every single night, from eight to 9pm
[18:00-19:00 GMT] and extends all the way to the early hours of the
morning. The explosions, the drones that hover at a very low level, the
fighter jets that patrolled the entire Gaza Strip – all of these are a
constant reminder of how difficult and how fragile the ceasefire is and
how difficult the living conditions are for Palestinians. But healing
and survival practices are things that people do on a daily basis.
They’re trying to live and survive these difficult conditions, from
sweeping debris, to starting renovating and fixing, or running
maintenance on some of the damage due to the bombardment. The biggest
challenge – aside from finding water and food – that parents have shared
with us is protecting their children and providing the necessary
protection, because parents have been telling us that they have failed
to protect their children. They did not protect them from the trauma.
They can’t protect them from the ongoing fear. So they’re creating small
acts of normalcy with bedtime stories, shared meals and games in the
streets. For them, that is as important as providing them with basic
necessities, the food, the water, the shelter. Because they tell us that
over the coming years, this generation is going to be the one leading
the community here, and if they’re not taken care of properly, we’re
going to be faced with much bigger challenges for Palestinians. The fact
that the Israeli military is still conducting these acts of violence
keeps the level of trauma high and keeps people more on edge.

Ceasefire - When?
& Israel sets 2026 defence budget at $34bn despite ceasefire in Gaza
Israel’s defence budget for next year has been set at 112 billion
shekels ($34.7bn), the defence minister’s office says, up from 90
billion shekels ($28bn) budgeted in an earlier draft. Defense Minister
Israel Katz and Finance Minister Bezalel Smotrich agreed on the defence
spending framework as the cabinet began debating next year’s budget,
which needs to be approved by March or could lead to new elections. Katz
said the military will continue to address the needs of its fighters and
reduce the burden on reservists. Smotrich’s office said the 2026 defence
budget has seen an increase of 47 billion shekels ($14.5bn) compared
with 2023 on the eve of the war. The genocidal war on Gaza and attacks
on Hezbollah in Lebanon cost Israel $31bn in 2024.
