90 Percent of Tents Flooded
{Nearly 55,000 Gaza families affected by most recent rains: UN
A spokesperson for UN chief Guterres says those families have had their
belongings and shelters damaged or destroyed by the storm hitting the
Palestinian enclave. “The rainstorm has also damaged dozens of
child-friendly spaces, disrupting or suspending activities related to
child protection,” Farhan Haq told reporters in New York. “The
disruption has affected approximately 30,000 children across Gaza.
Urgent repairs are needed to ensure these activities can resume without
delay.”
& UK police to arrest people holding placards, chanting ‘globalise
the intifada’
The UK’s Metropolitan and Greater Manchester police have issued a
statement announcing they will arrest people holding placard and
chanting “globalise the intifada,” a slogan that has been used to call
for international support of Palestinian resistance against Israeli
occupation and its genocide in Gaza. In a statement following Sunday’s
mass shooting at Bondi Beach in Sydney, they said they would “act
decisively and make arrests” in response to “rising antisemitism
globally”.
& Palestinian man wounded by Israeli fire in West Bank’s Qalqilya
Sources have told the Palestinian news agency Wafa that the man –
believed to be in his 20s – was wounded in the foot after Israeli troops
opened fire in the northern West Bank city. The man was taken to
hospital and is reported to be in stable condition.
& Israeli artillery shelling in southern Gaza
Our colleagues on the ground are reporting there is Israeli artillery
shelling in the east of the southern city of Khan Younis.
& US, Qatar discuss Gaza developments in Washington meeting
Secretary of State Marco Rubio has met Qatar’s PM Mohammed bin
Abdulrahman Al Thani in Washington as continued violations risk
jeopardising a fragile deal in Gaza. The two leaders cantered their
talks on Qatar’s role as a key mediator in negotiations and on getting
both sides to move onto the second stage for Trump’s 20-point plan.
& Germany approves $3.1 billion missile system deal with Israel
The German parliament has approved a $3.1 billion deal with Israel to
expand the Arrow 3 long-range missile system, Israel’s Defence Ministry
says. This latest agreement “will complement the initial purchase
agreement signed by Israel and Germany approximately two years ago,
valued at roughly $3.5 billion”, the ministry said in a statement. It
totals approximately $6.5 billion, making it “the largest Israeli
defence export deal ever”, the statement said. Germany, Israel’s second
largest provider of arms after the US, announced on November 17 that it
would lift restrictions on arms exports to Israel, citing what it called
a “stabilised ceasefire” in Gaza and recent diplomatic progress in the
region.

& Children experiencing ‘horrendous’ living conditions in Gaza:
UNICEF
Living conditions are “horrendous” for children in Gaza as the Strip is
battered by severe storms, Jonathan Crickx, communication chief for
UNICEF in Palestine, told Al Jazeera. “They live now in tents that have
been flooded, I could see blankets that were dripping water that people
were trying to dry,” Crickx said. “Most children have one or two change
of clothes so it’s extremely difficult for them to stay dry. “We are
very concerned for children who suffer from hypothermia and could die,
but also from the spread of diseases. “There is also a question of
dignity and of basic quality of life. You cannot live for years in
tents, there must be a permanent structure able to house those
children.”
& Gaza storm-related deaths caused by Israel’s genocidal policy:
Amnesty
Amnesty International says recent deaths in Gaza linked to winter storms
that flooded tent encampments and brought down damaged buildings cannot
be blamed solely on “bad weather”. Instead, “they are the foreseeable
consequences of Israel’s ongoing genocide and deliberate policy of
blocking the entry of shelter and repair materials for the displaced”,
said Erika Guevara Rosas, the group’s senior director for research,
advocacy, policy and campaigns. Amnesty noted that Israel has only
allowed “extremely limited” humanitarian supplies into Gaza despite the
ceasefire and repeated calls from UN bodies and other observers. As a
result, Palestinians are living “in extreme deprivation and amidst
complete destruction”. “This is further indication that Israeli
authorities are continuing to deliberately inflict on Palestinians in
Gaza conditions of life calculated to bring about their physical
destruction, an act prohibited under the Genocide Convention,” Amnesty
said.

& Groups slam Israel for closing probe into Palestinian child’s
death in prison
The Commission of Detainees and Ex-Detainees Affairs and the Palestinian
Prisoners Club have condemned Israel for closing an investigation into
the death of 17-year-old Walid Ahmed in Megiddo Prison in northern
Israel. The groups said an Israeli court closed the case after
determining that “no direct crime” was committed against Ahmed, from the
town of Silwad near Ramallah in the occupied West Bank. The teen died in
March 2025 after suffering from a blood clot caused by a “prolonged
deterioration in health”, the groups said, citing an autopsy report.
“This is what the court based its decision on, without addressing the
confirmed effects of starvation and deliberate denial of medical
treatment, which were central to his death,” they said, adding that
Israel has imposed a policy of starvation on Palestinian prisoners. “The
two organizations affirm that the case of the martyred child, Walid
Ahmed, represents a stark example of the occupation’s policy of killing
and slowly executing prisoners within its prisons, in line with the
policies of the extremist [Israeli] occupation government.” Rights
groups have documented a long list of Israeli abuses and torture against
Palestinians held in Israel’s prisons, particularly since the war on
Gaza began. Israeli rights group BTselem has described Israel’s prison
system as a network of “torture camps”.

Ceasefire?
& How many times has Israel violated the Gaza ceasefire?
Israel has been carrying out near-daily ceasefire violations in Gaza
since the US-brokered agreement came into effect in October. Hamas
leader Ghazi Hamas said on Tuesday that Israel had committed more than
813 ceasefire violations. From October 10 to December 12, Israel
violated the ceasefire at least 738 times, Gaza’s Government Media
Office said. It said Israel shot at civilians 205 times, raided
residential areas beyond the yellow line 37 times, bombed and shelled
Gaza 358 times and demolished people’s properties on 138 occasions. The
Palestinian Health Ministry said at least 394 Palestinians have been
killed in Israeli attacks since October 11, the first full day of the
ceasefire. Another 1,075 people have been wounded.
& Palestinians in Gaza fear collapse of ceasefire
By Hind Khoudary - Reporting from Gaza City
Breaches and violations of the ceasefire continue, as Israeli forces
struck a car in Gaza City. This is a very busy area where the streets
are busy and people are shopping at markets. Doctors at al-Ahli Hospital
are saying that most of those wounded are in critical condition. This is
not the first time that Israeli forces have violated the ceasefire.
Israeli forces also continue to demolish and to destroy residential
houses beyond the yellow line where the Israeli military is operating.
Palestinians hear explosions every now and then and there is always a
fear that this ceasefire is fragile and won’t make it until the end.
& Israeli troops search Red Crescent medics at entrance to West
Bank’s Nur Shams camp
The Palestinian Red Crescent Society (PRCS) has shared footage showing
Israeli troops searching medics before they were allowed into Nur Shams
refugee camp in the occupied West Bank. “This occurred while they were
carrying out their humanitarian duty,” PRCS said on social media. The
Israeli military is moving to demolish 25 buildings in the refugee camp,
east of Tulkarem. More than 1,460 buildings have been demolished in Nur
Shams and the nearby Tulkarem and Jenin refugee camps since the
beginning of the year as part of a widescale Israeli military operation.
Israel has forced about 32,000 Palestinians out of their homes across
the three camps and prevented from returning in what Human Rights Watch
recently said amounts to war crimes and a crime against humanity.
& Israeli army says Gaza shelling being investigated
In a brief statement, the military says a mortal shell fired near Gaza’s
yellow line “missed its target”. “The incident is being investigated,”
it said. Medical sources in the enclave tell Al Jazeera that at least 11
Palestinians were wounded in the Israeli bombing in central Gaza City.
& 12 Palestinians from Gaza released after Israeli imprisonment:
Media Office
Israel has released 12 Gaza residents from prison, according to the
Palestinian Prisoners’ Media Office. The office said in a post on
Telegram that they were received by the International Committee of the
Red Cross (ICRC) at the Karem Abu Salem crossing.
& Israel’s West Bank raids send message of control over Palestinian
lives
By Nida Ibrahim - Reporting from Kufr Aqab, occupied West Bank
Israeli raids have been intensifying since the war on Gaza started. They
did not subdue after the fragile ceasefire took effect in Gaza. On the
contrary, people here will tell you that Israel wants to send a message
to all Palestinians – wherever they are – that it has the upper hand and
control over their lives.
Palestinians who are in Nablus in the north of the occupied West Bank
seem to be under the impression that there is a new commander in one of
the Israeli army divisions who wants to come and show force and remind
Palestinians that they live under Israel’s army rule and that they
should keep that in mind if they want to think about opposing or
resisting Israel’s occupation. In Jenin, many Palestinians have been
detained in groups. We’ve been seeing a lot of these mass detentions
across the occupied West Bank as a way to remind Palestinians that the
Israeli army is still controlling each and every aspect of their lives.
& Nine Palestinians injured in Israeli drone attack on Gaza City:
Emergency services
We now have more lines on the Israeli attack in central Gaza. The
ambulance and emergency services in Gaza say nine Palestinians were
injured in an air attack by an Israeli drone in the centre of Gaza City,
according to our colleagues at Al Jazeera Arabic.
& Palestinians wounded when Israeli forces shell Gaza City
A source at al-Ahli Arab Hospital in Gaza City says an unspecified
number of Palestinians have been wounded by Israeli shelling in the
al-Samar neighbourhood.
& What’s next for the Gaza ceasefire, and will the truce last?
More than two months after Israel and Hamas agreed a ceasefire,
disagreements remain on a number of points outlined in three documents,
the most detailed one being a 20-point plan issued by US President
Donald Trump. Aid agencies and the Gaza government said fewer aid trucks
have been entering Gaza than was agreed and too little aid is reaching
Palestinians. The Rafah border crossing between Gaza and Egypt remains
closed, and Israel said it will be opened only when Hamas returns the
body of the last remaining captive. An international stabilisation force
is supposed to ensure security and peace inside Gaza, but its
composition, role and mandate are unclear. Additionally, a technocratic
Palestinian body without Hamas representation is meant to govern during
a transitional period, but there is no indication of how or when it
would be formed. Under the Trump plan, Hamas is meant to disarm, but the
group has not agreed to that, saying it will only give up its weapons
once there is a Palestinian state. Israel has repeatedly indicated that
if Hamas is not disarmed peacefully, it will resume its genocidal war to
make it do so. Military deployments and construction plans point to a
possible de facto partition of the enclave with a zone directly
controlled by Israel, leaving Palestinians fearful that Israel will
never finish pulling out of Gaza or allow its full reconstruction. Watch

Gaza children face worsening hardship
& Gaza children face worsening hardship amid restrictions on aid:
UNRWA
The head of the UN agency for Palestinian refugees (UNRWA) has warned
that children in Gaza face “no respite” as severe weather, due to Storm
Byron, worsens the already dire humanitarian situation. “Whilst the
storm is a natural hazard, its consequences are man-made for a
population forced to live amid collapsing ruins in makeshift shelters or
in flimsy tents,” Philippe Lazzarini posted on X. “Much, much more could
be done if aid was allowed to flow in unimpeded.”
& German church group slams Berlin for resumption of arms deliveries
to Israel
Karl Juesten, the co-chair of the Joint Conference Church and
Development, has criticised Germany’s recent decision to resume arms
deliveries to Israel, calling it “premature”. Speaking at a news
conference in Berlin, he said his organisation representing both
Catholic and Protestant churches called on the German government “not to
supply Israel with any military equipment that could be used in the Gaza
Strip, even after the very fragile ceasefire, until the situation in
Gaza has stabilised sufficiently and there is no longer a clear risk
that this military equipment could be used in serious violations of
international humanitarian law”. Germany announced on November 17 that
it would lift restrictions on arms exports to Israel, citing what it
called a “stabilised ceasefire” in Gaza and recent diplomatic progress
in the region. Germany’s arms exports to Israel have long been
contentious and the subject of legal challenges by rights groups. The
European Center for Constitutional and Human Rights, which supported
plaintiffs in their legal action, has repeatedly said Berlin’s
authorisation of weapons exports to Israel violates international
agreements Germany signed.
& Israeli settlers set fire to Palestinian vehicles near West Bank’s
Ramallah
Israeli settlers have set fire to two vehicles belonging to Palestinian
residents of Ein Yabrud village, east of Ramallah city, in the occupied
West Bank, according to the Wafa news agency. The attackers also
spray-painted racist slurs on homes before fleeing as residents
confronted them. Violence in the West Bank has broken new records this
year, with settlers carrying out almost-daily attacks on Palestinians
that have involved killings, beatings and the destruction of property,
often under the protection of the Israeli military.

& Story behind Gaza doctor who became symbol of courage
In the heart of Gaza’s war zone, Palestinian paediatrician Dr Hussam Abu
Safia, former director of Kamal Adwan Hospital, became a symbol of
courage when he walked towards an Israeli tank after being ordered to
approach. This award-winning documentary follows him and his wife Albina
inside the besieged hospital, where their family lived for months after
Israeli forces threatened their home. In December last year, Kamal Adwan
Hospital was bombed and stormed; staff were detained and tortured. Abu
Safia remains in “administrative detention” without charge. The film
closes with global calls for his release, a testament to resilience in
the face of devastation and genocide. Watch the video by clicking below
& Gaza death toll rises
At least one Palestinian has been killed and another injured in Israeli
attacks on the Gaza Strip in the past 24 hours, according to the
enclave’s Health Ministry. The announcement brought Gaza’s death toll
since the October 10 ceasefire to 394, with 1,075 injured, the ministry
said. Israel’s genocidal war on Gaza has killed a total of 70,668
Palestinians and injured 171,152 since October 7, 2023, the ministry
said.
