{Palestine is ‘moral compass of our time’: Turkish foreign minister
Hakan Fidan has said Palestine is also “the ultimate test of whether the
Muslim world can translate shared values into collective action”. “This
means repelling Israeli aggression and addressing the issue of Israeli
expansionism,” the Turkish foreign minister said in a speech at the Al
Sharq Youth Conference in Istanbul. Fidan also addressed the Gaza
ceasefire, saying that it is not peace because peace requires justice –
and justice requires a sovereign, free and viable Palestinian state.
& PNC Chairman Fattouh condemns remarks by US’ Israel envoy on
settlements
The Palestinian National Council (PNC) has denounced the comments made
by Mike Huckabee in support of illegal Israeli settlements in the
occupied West Bank. The US ambassador to Israel had said there is no
need to react to Israel’s approval of 19 new settlements on occupied
Palestinian territory since it is “neither an annexation nor a
declaration of sovereignty”. Rouhi Fattouh, the chairman of the
legislative body of the Palestine Liberation Organisation (PLO), called
the remarks “a flagrant violation of international law and international
legitimacy resolutions” and “a dangerous political position that
provides political cover for illegal settlement activity”. Fattouh
stressed that “no party in the world is authorised to grant legitimacy
to the occupation or its colonial policies, and that the only legitimacy
that must be respected is the legitimacy of international law, United
Nations resolutions, and the international consensus that rejected
settlement activity and considered it a major obstacle to peace.”
& Israeli army says it killed Palestinian near ‘yellow line’ in
northern Gaza
The military says it killed a Palestinian who crossed the so-called
yellow line, where Israeli forces have redeployed under the Gaza
ceasefire agreement. It did not provide any additional information about
the person who was killed. Israel has routinely fired at Palestinians,
including women and children, who approach the unmarked demarcation
line.
& Palestinian wounded by Israeli army fire in occupied East
Jerusalem
A man has been shot by the Israeli forces in the town of Al-Ram, north
of occupied East Jerusalem, according to the Wafa news agency. The
Palestinian Red Crescent Society reported that its crews treated the
30-year-old Palestinian, who was shot in the foot with live ammunition,
before transferring him to the hospital.
& WHO chief says agency still facing restrictions on aid coming into
Gaza
Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus says on X that his agency faces “challenges”
from Israel in bringing lab and diagnostic medical equipment into Gaza.
“Many items have been denied entry on the grounds of being classified as
dual-use,” he said, adding that the supplies are “vital” for “timely
detection, response, and treatment of people” facing acute respiratory
diseases. He lamented the deaths in Gaza over the past day due to poor
weather conditions, implying that they could have been prevented if the
aid flow were unrestricted by Israel.
& Jordan slams Israeli move to legalise new settlements in occupied
West Bank
The country’s foreign ministry says it “strongly condemns the Israeli
government’s ratification of the establishment and legalisation of 19
illegal colonial settlements in the occupied West Bank”. A ministry
statement called the move “a blatant violation of international law” and
“international humanitarian law”, adding that it undermines “efforts for
a two-state solution” and that “Israel has no sovereignty over the
occupied West Bank”. The Israeli cabinet approved on Friday the
establishment and legalisation of the settlements, which are illegal
under international law.
& Palestinian families evacuate homes under Israeli demolition
threat in Nablus
The Wafa news agency is reporting that six families evacuated their
homes in the at-Taawon area of Nablus, in the north of the occupied West
Bank, after the Israeli High Court ordered them demolished by the end of
the year. One of the affected residents, Laith Abed, told the
Palestinian outlet that the Israeli authorities are arguing that the
buildings are located in Area C, an area that accounts for about 60
percent of the West Bank and falls under complete Israeli control. But
the families say the homes are in Area B, an area in which Palestinians
have civil authority but that remains under overall Israeli security
control.
The looming demolitions come as the UN’s humanitarian agency warned this
week that more than 1,000 Palestinians have been displaced in Area C so
far this year due to Israeli demolition orders – the second highest
total since 2009.
& Israeli troops arrest child near Nablus in occupied West Bank:
Report
A 14-year-old Palestinian boy has been arrested in the town of Beita,
south of Nablus, according to the Wafa news agency. Local sources told
Wafa that Taim Raed Hamayel was arrested during an Israeli raid.
Palestinians across the West Bank have faced a surge in Israeli settler
and military violence in the shadow of the genocidal war on Gaza.
& Two Israeli soldiers injured in southern Gaza
The military says the soldiers were taken to hospital with minor
injuries after an improvised explosive device exploded in southern Gaza.
It did not say where exactly the incident occurred.
& Hamas condemns Israeli strike on vehicle in Gaza City
The Palestinian group says the attack represents “a blatant violation”
of the US-brokered Gaza ceasefire agreement that came into force in
October. “This crime reaffirms that the [Israeli] occupation is
deliberately seeking to undermine and sabotage the ceasefire agreement
through its escalating and continuous violations,” Hamas said in a
statement shared on Telegram. As we reported earlier, Israel said the
strike targeted a “key” Hamas member. The Palestinian group’s statement
did not provide any information on whether a member was targeted or hurt
in the attack. Hamas called on the ceasefire deal mediators and
guarantor countries to take immediate action “to restrain” Israel, which
it said was “disregarding its obligations under the agreement and
seeking to undermine and destroy it”.

& More than 1,600 Palestinian olive trees destroyed in a week in
West Bank: Ministry
A report published on the Palestinian Ministry of Agriculture’s Facebook
account says there has been a significant increase in attacks by Israeli
settlers and the Israeli army against Palestinian farmers in various
parts of the occupied West Bank, as Israel continues its expansion on
Palestinian land. The ministry’s report revealed that the total number
of olive trees uprooted between December 4 and 11 was 1,608, with 477 of
them destroyed in Hebron in the southern occupied West Bank. “The
violations committed included land razing, uprooting trees, damaging
irrigation networks, stealing agricultural equipment and preventing
access to land during the olive harvest season,” according to the
ministry. The Israeli army’s intensified attacks on farmers and their
land destroyed thousands of olive trees during the harvest season in
recent weeks.
& Palestinian group slams legalisation of 19 Israeli settlements
The Popular Resistance Committees, an umbrella organisation, has
condemned a recent Israeli decision to give legal status to 19 illegal
settlements in the occupied West Bank as “a step in the ongoing campaign
of ethnic cleansing and the uprooting of the Palestinian people from
their land”. “This criminal decision is a dangerous escalation and
reveals the colonial and racist nature of the Zionist entity,” it said.
“It is a step in the complete Judaisation project targeting our land in
the West Bank and Jerusalem,” the statement added. On Friday, Israel’s
cabinet approved the “establishment and regulation” of the 19
settlements, which are illegal under international law.
& Israeli government pursuing ‘settlement expansion on steroids’
By Nour Odeh - Reporting from Ramallah, occupied West Bank
You have the established settlements, illegal under international law.
And then, you have “outposts” – caravans that are set up on hilltops in
the occupied West Bank. What happens is that settlers set these caravans
up, but the idea that Israel considers them illegal … is a bit
misleading. The Israeli army provides these so-called illegal outposts
with protection, electricity, and surveillance. And then over time, with
lobbying … what happens is a retroactive process of internal Israeli
legalisation. It doesn’t make them any less illegal in the eyes of
international law, but it provides them with more legal cover in Israel
– more funding, more protection, more services, more infrastructure …
and in turn, what that translates into is more annexation of Palestinian
land. There are no differences, really, about how to go about increasing
the settlements, increasing the land appropriated in the occupied West
Bank, between the right and the left in Israel. It’s more about tactics.
Right now, you have settlement expansion on steroids because those
leading the process are settlers themselves.
& UNRWA reiterates call for Israel to allow shelter supplies into
Gaza
The UN agency for Palestinian refugees says it has enough shelter
supplies to help as many as 1.3 million people in Gaza. “But the Israeli
Authorities continue to block UNRWA from directly bringing aid into the
Gaza Strip,” UNRWA said in a social media post. The agency stressed that
winter is worsening “already dire living conditions” for Palestinians in
the bombarded enclave, including hundreds of thousands of displaced
families.
& Israeli drone attack kills, wounds Palestinians in Gaza City
Wafa reports that an Israeli drone hit a vehicle at the Nabulsi junction
in the west of Gaza City, resulting in casualties. Specific numbers were
not included in the news agency’s reporting. Ambulance and rescue teams
rushed to the scene, with work currently under way to evacuate and
transfer the wounded to hospitals. As we previously reported, the
Israeli military said it had targeted a “key” Hamas member in Gaza City,
without giving further details. Since the ceasefire started in October,
Israel has continued to target Gaza in daily attacks in a clear breach
of the agreement.
&Israeli forces arrest elderly man in West Bank’s northern Jordan
Valley
Israeli forces arrested an elderly man from the northern Jordan Valley
in the occupied West Bank, according to the Wafa news agency. Local
sources told Wafa that forces stormed a gathering and arrested the
elderly Rafe’ Muhammad Abdul Karim Faqha. Israeli settlers, accompanied
by soldiers, stormed several communities in the northern Jordan Valley.
& Israeli forces storm home in occupied West Bank’s el-Bireh city
Local sources have told the Wafa news agency that Israeli soldiers
stormed a home in the occupied West Bank’s el-Bireh city but no arrests
were reported. Israeli forces also stormed a petrol station in the city
and impeded the movement of residents.
& PA presidency says US envoy support for settlements contrary to
international law
The Palestinian Authority’s presidential spokesperson Nabil Abu Rudeineh
has rejected comments made by US envoy Mike Huckabee in support of
illegal Israeli settlements in the occupied West Bank. The US ambassador
to Israel had said there is no need to react to Israel’s approval of 19
new settlements on occupied Palestinian territory since it is “neither
an annexation nor a declaration of sovereignty”. The PA representative
said the statement is rejected and condemned since it is “contrary to
the international consensus that voted in Resolution 2334 against
settlements and considered them all illegal, stressing that no one is
authorised to give legitimacy to the occupation and its policies”. “We
demand that the US administration adhere to international law and
international legitimacy resolutions if it is interested in stopping
violence and escalation and achieving a just and lasting peace in the
Middle East, stressing that recognising legitimate Palestinian rights is
the only way to achieve peace and security for all.”
& Palestinian man succumbs to injuries from Israeli attack in Gaza’s
al-Mawasi area
Muhammad Abu Hussein died from injuries sustained in an Israeli attack
carried out weeks ago on his tent in the al-Mawasi area, near Khan
Younis, in the southern Gaza Strip, medical sources have told the Wafa
news agency. Since the October 10 ceasefire, at least 386 people have
been killed and 1,018 others wounded in the enclave, according to Gaza’s
Health Ministry.
& Gaza aid vessel departs from Turkiye’s Mersin port
A ship carrying about 1,300 tonnes of humanitarian aid, prepared by the
Turkish Red Crescent for delivery to Gaza, has departed from Turkiye’s
Mersin port. The 19th Goodness Ship, which also contained contributions
from Kosovo, was loaded primarily with food, hygiene supplies, clothing,
and blankets. It is expected to arrive at Egypt’s Port of El Arish,
where the aid will be unloaded and then delivered to Gaza. “By
delivering more than 18,000 tonnes of humanitarian aid to the region so
far, we have built an uninterrupted bridge of hope from Turkiye to
Gaza,” said Turkish Red Crescent Board Member Kamil Karadeniz at the
sendoff ceremony. “Through our soup kitchens in Gaza, we have produced –
and continue to produce – hot meals for 35,000 people under the most
difficult conditions,” said Karadeniz, adding that the organisation had
distributed more than eight million meals in the war-torn enclave to
date.
& Palestinian Authority welcomes UNGA resolution on Gaza aid
The Palestinian Authority’s Department of Refugee Affairs has welcomed
the UN General Assembly’s resolution demanding increased aid to Gaza.
The UN’s agency for Palestinian refugees (UNRWA) also received a “major
legal and political victory” as its mandate was renewed for three years
until early 2029, it said in a statement carried by the Wafa news
agency. The PA called for collective international action against Israel
to force it to allow the full entry of humanitarian aid, which remains
limited despite the October ceasefire. It also said Israel must respect
the privileges and immunities granted to UNRWA to protect its employees
and facilities, adding that the freedom of movement of its vehicles must
be enabled and its headquarters and closed educational facility in
occupied East Jerusalem must be reopened.

A Mother Grieving
& Gaza’s death toll rises
Three bodies were brought to hospitals in Gaza over the past 24 hours,
including two people killed by Israel and another previously killed now
recovered. The enclave’s Health Ministry said this brings the total
death toll since the start of the ceasefire on October 10 to 386 people
killed and 1,018 injured. A total of 70,654 Palestinians have been
killed by Israel since the start of the genocidal war in October 2023.
& Israeli forces arrests at least four Palestinians in occupied West
Bank
The Israeli army has launched a series of new raids across the occupied
West Bank, arresting at least four people this morning, according to the
Palestinian Prisoners’ Media Office (ASRA). A young man was arrested in
Tulkarem by Israeli soldiers in an attempt to make his father turn
himself in. Two separate arrests were made in raids on Qalqilya, while
another man was arrested in a neighbourhood of Jenin. According to the
Wafa news agency, another Israeli raid targeted the Old City of Nablus
at dawn, but no arrests were reported.
& Israeli army claims to have killed one person for crossing yellow
line in southern Gaza
The Israeli military says troops killed one Palestinian person yesterday
in southern Gaza who it claimed had crossed the ceasefire-designated
invisible “yellow line”. In a post on Telegram, the army said that while
two people were identified crossing the line, only one of them was
killed. Since the establishment of the yellow line, as part of the
ceasefire agreement that divides where Israeli forces are stationed and
Palestinian daily life, Israel has blamed and killed Palestinians for
crossing the barrier, which is not clearly marked.
& Gaza’s Civil Defence continues rescue operations across enclave
Gaza’s Civil Defence says teams across the enclave carried out 38 tasks
from yesterday morning until this morning. In a Telegram post, the
rescue team said the tasks included one firefighting operation, 14
rescue operations, 14 ambulance operations, and nine other tasks.
& Israeli forces storm occupied West Bank’s Nablus
At dawn, Israeli forces stormed the Old City of Nablus in the occupied
West Bank, according to the Wafa news agency. Local sources told Wafa
that a number of Israeli patrols stormed the city of Nablus, raiding
areas inside the Old City, amid a widespread deployment of infantry
units in its alleys. So far, no arrests have been reported.} more incl.
