20 people killed in Israeli strike on al-Mawasi camp
Jinha - Womens News Agency - Dec 5, 2024
<<20 people killed in Israeli strike on al-Mawasi camp in Gaza
20 people, including five children, were killed in an Israeli airstrike targeting al-Mawasi camp near Khan Younis, south of the Gaza Strip, Gaza's civil defense agency said on Wednesday.
News Center- Despite the calls for a ceasefire, the Israeli forces keep killing and displacing Palestinians in the Gaza Strip. 20 people, including five children were killed and dozens injured in an Israeli airstrike targeting al-Mawasi camp near Khan Younis, south of Gaza Strip, Gaza's civil defense agency said on Wednesday. The Israeli airstrike directly targeted the displaced people and food stores in the Al-Mawasi camp, the Palestine Red Crescent Society (PRCS) said in a statement.
At least 44,532 Palestinians have been killed and 105,538 others injured in Israeli attacks on the Gaza Strip since October 7, 2023, according to the Gaza's health ministry.>>

BBC - Dec 5, 2024
<<Gazans displaced by war now face a new threat: winter
Mohammed al-Halabi is one of thousands of Palestinians living on Gaza's beaches
The beaches of Gaza are no longer for day trips. Tens of thousands of people now have to live on the coastline, forced to leave their homes during the war. In recent days they have come under a new kind of assault: from winter seas battering their flimsy, makeshift dwellings. "Nothing is left in the tent: not mattresses, bedding, bread, everything was taken. The sea took it," says Mohammed al-Halabi, in Deir al-Balah. "We rescued a two-month-old child who was dragged out to sea." Nearly all of Gaza's 2.3 million population is now displaced and nine in ten of those living in shelters are in tents, the UN says. With temperatures plummeting, many people have been falling sick. There have been floods of rainwater and sewage.
"My children's feet, their heads-everything is freezing," Shaima Issa tells the BBC in Khan Younis. "My daughter has a fever because of the cold. We're essentially living on the streets, surrounded by strips of fabric. Everyone here is sick and coughing. When it rains on us, we're drenched," adds her neighbour, Salwa Abu Nimer, crying. "The heavy rain floods us, and we don't have a waterproof cover. The water seeps into the tent, we wear our clothes wet. No flour, no food, no drink, no shelter," she went on. "What is this life I'm living? I go to the ends of the earth just to feed my children." While the situation is worst in the north, UN officials are warning of dire shortages of medicines, food, shelter and fuel across Gaza, describing the situation as "catastrophic." There are long queues for charity handouts in parts of central and southern Gaza where most people are living. On successive days, our local cameramen have filmed hundreds of people crowding outside bakeries where there is very little bread. At times, there are crushes as those waiting surge forward. "I need a loaf of bread. I have pain, diabetes, and high blood pressure. I can't push through crowds of people; I'm afraid I'll suffocate and die," says Hanan al-Shamali, who is in Deir al-Balah but originally comes from northern Gaza. "I need bread so that I can feed the orphans I take care of. Every morning, I come here. In the end, do I get bread or not? Sometimes I get it, but most of the time, I don't."
Crowd at the bakery in Deir Al Balah
The BBC's local cameramen in Gaza filmed people crowding outside bakeries, desperate for bread. At the Kerem Shalom crossing, Israel's main crossing point with Gaza, last week journalists were shown lorries moving goods that had gone through security checks. Aid entering the Palestinian territory remains at some of the lowest levels of the past year. Israel blames aid agencies for distribution problems. "Unfortunately we're still seeing that the biggest backlog for humanitarian aid getting to where it needs to get to is the distribution capabilities of the international organisations, as the 800 trucks worth of aid around me attest to," said Shimon Freedman, spokesman for Cogat, part of the Israeli military that control the crossings.
But inside Gaza, humanitarian workers say armed gangs have been looting incoming supplies brought through Kerem Shalom amid increased lawlessness. This has now led the biggest UN agency operating in the territory, Unrwa, to pause its use of this route for deliveries. The overall picture," says Antoine Renard, local head of the UN's World Food Programme, is of Palestinians facing "a daily struggle for survival. The levels of hunger, devastation and destruction we are seeing now in Gaza is worse than ever before. People cannot cope anymore," Mr Renard says. "There is barely any food coming in while markets are empty."
Amid the destruction in Gaza, there is still no end in sight to the war. Just the expectation of more suffering, as cold weather sets in.>>

Le Monde - Dec 5, 2024 - By Jean-Philippe Remy (Jerusalem correspondent)
<<Aid deliveries for Palestinian refugees suspended through key crossing, following humanitarians deaths
Two humanitarian workers were killed in the enclave on Saturday, November 30. Lack of security has forced UNRWA to halt aid at the crossing point between southern Gaza and Israel. This was not an Israeli blunder. On the evening of Saturday, November 30, the Israeli army deliberately targeted a vehicle in southern Gaza carrying five people, three of whom were working for the NGO World Central Kitchen (WCK). WCK, which had already lost seven employees in a series of strikes targeting one of its convoys on April 1, had resumed its activities a month later, despite the extreme difficulties faced by humanitarian organizations there. On Saturday evening, all of the car's passengers were killed. Among the victims was a man whom the Israeli army has accused of having taken part in the Hamas attack on Israel on October 7, 2023. In a statement, WCK officials announced that they were halting their operations and claimed to have "no knowledge that any individual in the vehicle had alleged ties to the October 7th Hamas attack." On Saturday, another aid worker employed by the NGO Save the Children was also killed in the south of the Gaza Strip, in undetermined circumstances. On the same day, nine people waiting for a flour distribution also lost their lives following a strike on a vehicle parked nearby. While the north of Gaza is still under a devastating siege by the Israeli army and remains largely inaccessible, the south of the enclave is subject - in addition to military operations and strikes - to the rise of armed gangs attacking aid convoys. On Sunday, this looting prompted UNRWA, the UN agency in charge of Palestinian refugees, to halt the delivery of aid from the Kerem Shalom crossing point between Israel and southern Gaza, UNRWA chief Philippe Lazzarini announced on X, adding that it was a "difficult decision (...) at a time hunger is rapidly deepening."
Obstructing UNRWA's operations
A large number of trucks carrying humanitarian aid enter at this point, before being inspected. However, "the road out of this crossing has not been safe for months. On 16 November, a large convoy of aid trucks was stolen by armed gangs." Trucks carrying food suffered the same fate on Saturday, said Lazzarini. "The humanitarian operation has become unnecessarily impossible," he said, before concluding: "The responsibility of protection of aid workers and supplies is with the state of Israel as the occupying power."
Cogat, the Israeli Defense Ministry agency responsible for managing civil affairs in the occupied Palestinian territories, said convoys were being attacked by Hamas members and criminal gangs, and claimed on X that "only 7% of the aid that came into the Gaza Strip in November was coordinated by UNRWA." Aid workers consider the UN agency to be the backbone of the humanitarian system in Gaza.>>

<<Palestinians call for action to halt Israeli attacks on West Bank hospitals
The Israeli military has apprehended an injured Palestinian in Nablus, despite hospitals being protected under international law. The Palestinian Ministry of Health in the occupied West Bank has called for international intervention to halt Israel's attacks on the healthcare system after Israeli forces raided a hospital in Nablus and arrested an injured patient. The ministry on Wednesday issued a statement calling the raid "a flagrant violation of all international laws and conventions that stipulate the protection of treatment centres and patients". The Palestinian news agency Wafa said the man, whom it identified as Ayman Ghanem, was arrested at the Arab Specialized Hospital on Wednesday after being targeted by a drone attack near Tubas the day before. Israeli authorities confirmed having apprehended a Palestinian at a hospital in Nablus. The Israeli military said the attack that injured him also killed three others. In a joint statement, the Israeli military, the Shin Bet security service and the Israeli police accused him of being <the third member of a terrorist cell that carried out the shooting attack> at Mehola Junction in August, in which an Israeli was killed. They also accused him of planning to carry out further attacks and posing <an imminent threat to Israeli civilians>. The Palestinian Health Ministry called on "international institutions" and the Red Cross to "intervene immediately to stop the occupation's attacks on treatment centres and staff, demanding immediate protection for the health system and all its components". The Israeli statement said <the security forces will continue to operate wherever necessary to thwart terrorism in the area and to maintain the safety of Israeli civilians>. Health establishments including hospitals are protected under international humanitarian law. This protection extends to medical staff, patients and means of transport. Wafa said Israeli forces conducted a separate raid on a hospital in Tubas on Tuesday, after an Israeli attack on a vehicle at the entrance to Aqqaba that killed two Palestinians and injured another. According to the agency, the military arrested five members of staff including the hospital's general director and severely beat the head of the emergency department. Israeli forces have been raiding hospitals in the occupied West Bank to conduct arrests or to retrieve the bodies of Palestinians killed in its attacks. At times, the military has conducted targeted killings within their premises. In January, Israeli forces disguised as medical staff and civilians shot dead three Palestinians inside a hospital in the West Bank city of Jenin. The killings were carried out by undercover operatives while the men were sleeping at Ibn Sina Hospital, according to statements by the Palestinian Health Ministry and the Israeli army. Security camera footage circulated online shows about a dozen undercover personnel pacing through a corridor of the hospital with assault rifles.

<<Why There's No Excuse for Israelis Not Knowing What's Happening in Gaza
