<<Death toll in Afghan floods rises to 37
The death toll from recent rainstorms and flash floods across
Afghanistan has risen to 37, the Taliban authorities said on Wednesday.
News Center- Since Monday, Afghanistan has been suffering from
rainstorms and flash floods. At least 37 people, including seven women
and three children, have been killed and 24 others injured in the
rainstorms and flash floods, the Taliban authorities said on Wednesday.
Eight people were killed and six others injured in the Kandahar
province, located in the southern region of Afghanistan while five
people were killed and six others injured in the several districts of
the Helmand province, located in the south of the country. Local
officials urged residents to take precautions and seek shelter, while
emergency response teams keep working to assist those affected by the
ongoing floods. In 2024, the floods across eastern and northern
Afghanistan killed hundreds. According to the United Nations, heavy
rains and flash floods killed at least 500 people in Afghanistan in
April and May 2024.>>

Radio Begum, Afghanistan’s only women’s radio station, will resume
broadcasts after the Taliban lifted their suspension.
News Center- Radio Begum, Afghanistan’s only women’s radio station, will
resume broadcasts after the Taliban lifted their suspension, the Taliban
Information and Culture Ministry said in a statement on Saturday. The
ministry also said that Radio Begum had repeatedly requested to restart
operations and that the suspension was lifted after the station made
commitments to authorities. “The station pledged to conduct broadcasts
in accordance with the principles of journalism and the regulations of
the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan, and to avoid any violations in the
future,” the statement added, without giving information about what
those principles and regulations are.
Radio Begum launched on March 8, 2021, the International Women’s Day,
five months before the Taliban’s takeover of Afghanistan.
On February 4, 2025, the Taliban authorities raided and suspended the
radio station, citing “unauthorized provision” of content to an overseas
TV channel and improperly using its license.>>
