Matin Tayebikhah Foumani
Hengaw Organisation for Human Right - 26 Sept 2024
<<A Report on the Brutal Killing of a Young Woman by Her Husband in
Rasht under the Pretext of <Honor>
A man in Rasht brutally murdered his wife, Matin Tayebikhah Foumani, and
another man with a cold weapon. His motive for committing the crime has
been declared as the so-called <protection of honor.> According to a
report received by the Hengaw Organization for Human Rights, on Sunday,
September 22, 2024, a 34-year-old woman from Fuman, Gilan Province,
named Matin Tayebikhah Foumani, was killed by her husband with multiple
stab wounds in their home. A 47-year-old man was also murdered in the
same manner at the same location by the perpetrator. The body of Matin
Tayebikhah Foumani, who was the mother of two children, was buried today
in the 'Chaharbagh' cemetery in her hometown of Fuman. She had been
working as a hairdresser in the city of Rasht. According to the
government-run Hamshahri Online website, the 39-year-old suspect, an
employee of a hospital in Rasht, fled after committing the murders and
was arrested hours later. As with many other femicides, the Iranian
government media have cited <family and personal disputes" as the motive
behind the crime.>>

Narges Mohammadi
Jinha - Womens News Agency - 25 Sept 2024
<<Letter from Narges Mohammadi to UN General Assembly
Nobel Peace Prize laureate Narges Mohammadi sent a letter to the 79th
session of the UN General Assembly, calling on the UN to take urgent
action against the Iranian government's rights violations.
News Center- The 79th session of the UN General Assembly and the Summit
of the Future took place in New York on September 22, 2024. The leaders
at the UN General Assembly session received a letter written from prison
by Nobel Peace Prize laureate Narges Mohammadi, calling for the release
of political prisoners and an end to the repression of women and civil
society in Iran. The letter has been published on the Instagram page of
Narges Mohammadi. Narges Mohammedi wrote the following letter to UN
Secretary-General Antonio Guterres and the members of the UN General
Assembly:
"Two years have passed since the start of the Women, Life, Freedom
movement. A civil society movement that has spread throughout Iran. It
is a democratic movement whose demands were expressed by the slogan
'Woman, Life, Freedom,' which carried a clear call for democracy and
equality in Iran.
'We have been extremely worried in recent days'
As with previous popular uprisings and social movements, the price paid
for the active support shown by all sections of the Iranian population,
who rose up in solidarity, was brutal repression, which continues to
this day. The world is witnessing the massacres, executions,
imprisonments and violent, ruthless repression of women in Iran's
streets, detention centers and prisons. We have been extremely worried
in recent days, with several women being condemned to death including
Pakhshan Azizi and Sharifeh Mohammadi.
Sharifeh Mohammadi and Pakhshan Azizi
The representatives of the Iranian government will be among you at the
United Nations General Assembly session. I ask you to urgently call for
respect for human rights as a precondition for all negotiations whatever
the level, as it is the only possible way to achieve democracy and peace
in the Middle East and Iran. It's time for action, and I'm asking you to
replace words with concrete, effective measures. I urge you to act
forcefully and immediately for an end to the widespread and brutal
executions of political prisoners, the release of all political
prisoners and an end to the repression of women and civil society in
Iran." >>

Navid Mihandoost
Iranwire - September 27, 2024
Iranian Filmmaker Navid Mihandoost's Conditional Release Plea Denied
Again
Iranian director and screenwriter Navid Mihandoost's repeated pleas for
conditional release have been met with yet another denial, despite
having served more than a third of his three-year prison sentence. In an
interview with the Emtedad news website, Masoud Keramati, Mihandoost's
close friend and fellow filmmaker, expressed disappointment over the
decision. He said, "Mihandoost has repeatedly requested to be released
from prison with an ankle tag, but his appeals have gone unheeded."
Keramati criticized the charges against Mihandoost, describing them as
"weak and baseless accusations" that resulted in a three-year prison
sentence. He emphasized that the arguments used to convict Mihandoost
"could not be cited" as credible evidence. According to Keramati, 16
months have passed since Mihandoost's imprisonment, and the director has
made two requests for conditional release. However, the authorities have
yet to review these requests. Typically, the judiciary and prison
organization process requests for conditional release within two weeks
and then forward them to the Ministry of Intelligence. However, Keramati
reports that the ministry has not responded to Mihandoost's case. The
judiciary initially sentenced the filmmaker in December 2020 to three
years and six months in prison for allegedly participating in
<propaganda activity against the Islamic Republic> and engaging in
actions that harmed national security. A court of appeals confirmed the
verdict in February 2021 but reduced Mihandoost's prison term to three
years.
Born in 1973, Navid Mihandoost is known for his work in television and
cinema. His notable projects include the TV series "Footprint of
Breeze," "Glass Wall," and "Maybe It Will Happen to You," as well as the
feature film "Whatever God Wants." >>
