Dear reader, let us start with
the most important and calling for an even higher awareness of the
dangers of the mullahs' regime.
Maysoon Majidi
Hengaw Organisation for Human Right - 27 may 2024
<<Kurdish Asylum Seeker Detained in Italy Begins Hunger Strike
Maysoon Majidi, a Kurdish human rights activist, has initiated a hunger
strike following his detention at the Italian border. Majidi has been
imprisoned for the past five months and is protesting the lack of
resolution in his case. According to a report from the Hengaw
Organization for Human Rights, Maysoon Majidi has been held in
Castrovillari Prison, Italy, for four months and 27 days. He began his
hunger strike on Monday, May 27, 2024, in response to the prolonged
uncertainty regarding his status. Majidi was arrested at the Italian
border on December 31, 2023, and has since remained in a state of
indefinite detention. He is accused of aiding the captain of a ship
carrying refugees, a charge he denies. Citing insufficient evidence for
this accusation, Majidi has requested to be released from prison and
placed under house arrest until his legal proceedings are concluded.
Majidi left the Kurdistan Region of Iraq late last year, seeking asylum
in a European country due to repeated threats from the Islamic Republic
of Iran's security agencies. The Hengaw Organization for Human Rights
has expressed concern over Majidi's detention and is calling for a
review of his case by the Italian judiciary. Hengaw also urges all
organizations and entities involved in human and refugee rights to
advocate on his behalf.>>

And here's the full story: First of all ms. Maysoon Majidi is indeed a
ms meaning a woman and not, as the above article implies, a he. And
here's her full story:
ANSA|InfoMigrants - May 13, 2024
<<In Crotone, Italy, Maysoon Majidi, an Iranian Kurdish women's rights
activist, is on trial for allegedly assisting with clandestine
immigration after fleeing Iran. She was arrested on charges of being a
<smuggler> of the boat she arrived in Italy with on December 31, along
with other migrants. Majidi denies these accusations. Amnesty
International has intervened in her case, appealing to the judge.
Amnesty International has spoken out on behalf of Maysoon Majidi, a
Kurdish activist who was arrested by the Italian financial police of
Crotone, in Calabria, on charges of being the smuggler of the boat that
arrived on 31 December on the beach of Gabella with 77 migrants onboard.
Since then, Maysoon Majidi, 28, has been in jail in Castrovillari for
aiding and abetting clandestine immigration. The woman has denied the
charges.
'Previously arrested and tortured in 2019 in Iran'
On Thursday (May 9), on the eve of the hearing in Crotone, Ileana Bello,
the director general of the Italian branch of Amnesty International,
wrote to Judge Elisa Marchetto, who is tasked with the case. Bello noted
that Majidi, <well known in her country for being a women's rights
activist, as well as a film director and theater actress, has
collaborated with several Kurdish rights organizations and is currently
part of the Hana human rights organization. Majidi was arrested for the
first time during the 2019 protests, tortured, and then released.>
Fled from Iranian moral police
Bello noted to the judge that the accused woman fled Iran after facing
persecution by the Iranian moral police for her involvement in
organizing protests against the regime. Being a woman and part of the
Kurdish minority, she faced double discrimination. Aware that she
wouldn't receive a stay permit and would risk deportation to Iran if she
stayed in Iraqi Kurdistan, Majidi chose to escape via the Ionian route
towards Italy. The Amnesty International director went on to note that
<during the uprising of the Woman Life Freedom movement in 2022, the
Iranian security forces used rape and other forms of sexual violence to
intimidate and punish people who took to the streets to protest, even
those of only 12 years old.> She added that Iranian authorities,
including magistrates and judges, were complicit in this system, not
only by disregarding and concealing reports of rape but also by using
coerced confessions obtained through torture to falsely accuse survivors
and subsequently sentence them to death. <In light of these elements,>
Bello said, <and of the activities carried out by Majidi for the rights
of women and the Kurdish minority group, Amnesty International is
concerned about her safety and asked that her basic rights be
safeguarded and that she be given any necessary medical care.> On
Friday, the Comitato Free Maysoon organized a sit-in in front of the
Crotone court to show support for Majidi and demand her release.>>

Amir Hossein Kouhkan
Hengaw Organisation for Human Right - 27 may 2024
<<Iranian Judiciary Sentences Lawyer Amir Hossein Kouhkan to 6 Years in
Prison
Amir Hossein Kouhkan, a lawyer and member of the Central Bar
Association, and one of the attorneys for Mashallah Karami from the
grieving families, has been sentenced to 6 years of imprisonment by the
judiciary of the Islamic Republic of Iran. According to a report
received by the Hengaw Human Rights Organization, Amir Hossein Kouhkan,
a lawyer residing in the city of Karaj, was recently sentenced to a
total of 6 years of imprisonment by Branch 2 of the Karaj Revolutionary
Court on charges such as assembly and collusion and propaganda against
the government.
Amir Hossein Kouhkan was arrested on Monday, August 28, 2023, after
being summoned to the Karaj Intelligence Office. He was ultimately
released from Kachouei Prison in Karaj on bail after nearly four months
of detention, pending the completion of judicial proceedings. It is
noteworthy that this lawyer faced security charges due to his
involvement in the case of Mashallah Karami, the father of Mohammad
Mehdi Karami (Koumar), who was arrested and executed during the 'Jin,
Jiyan, Azadi' (Woman, Life, Freedom) movement>>

About Ebrahim Raisi's Death
An artist from Gilan province identified as Kamyar Bamdad has been
arrested by security forces due to the publication of a story regarding
the death of Ebrahim Raisi. This artist had also been arrested during

report received by the Hengaw Organization for Human Rights, on
Saturday, May 25, 2024, Gilan's Intelligence forces of the Islamic
Revolutionary Guard Corps arrested Kamyar Bamdad and transferred him to
an unknown location. According to informed sources, this artist was

Narges Mohammadi
Iranwire - 27 May 2024
<<Narges Mohammadi Criticizes UN's Memorial for Raisi
Narges Mohammadi, the imprisoned Nobel Peace Prize laureate, has
criticized the United Nations' planned memorial ceremony for Ebrahim
Raisi, calling it <a commemoration of the executions and mass killings.>
In a letter from Evin prison, she wrote, <When the governments of the
world elevate a blatant human rights violator and butcher from Iran's
history to a position of honor, as if mourning a peace-loving and
democratic figure, they set a dangerous precedent.
<This emboldens dictators, oppressors, torturers, and executioners
worldwide. They see and are assured that upon their deaths, the UN flag
will be at half-mast, and global politicians and statesmen will offer
condolences, while the voices of helpless and oppressed protesters are
stifled by the barriers of 'diplomatic relations' and 'state
precedents.' By opening its doors to commemorate Raisi, the United
Nations is effectively shutting the already fragile doors on its human
rights foundations, a decision I deeply regret. Without a doubt, we, the
proud people of Iran, are well aware and witness that Raisi, both in the
1980s as a member of the 'Death Committee' that orchestrated the
Khavaran massacres, and in recent years, when he was named president of
the Islamic Republic with minimal elections and suppressed and killed
protesters during the magnificent Mahsa uprising, stands as a criminal
in the history of our land.>
According to reports from Iranian news agencies, the United Nations
General Assembly is set to hold a memorial ceremony in the coming days.
The representative of Trinidad and Tobago at the United Nations, who is
currently chairing the General Assembly, announced in a statement that
this meeting will be held on May 30.
Shirin Ebadi, another Nobel Peace Prize laureate, also expressed her
disapproval on Friday through an Instagram post announcing the memorial
ceremony for Ebrahim Raisi. Ebadi wrote, <The case of the Islamic
Republic is much darker and more shameful than it is possible to
commemorate and honor its officials in a place where there is a trace of
justice, fairness, and conscience.> >>

<<Jailed Iranian Activist's Family Summoned After Public Criticism
Iran has summoned the mother and sisters of a jailed activist,
intensifying pressure on his family in an apparent bid to silence their
criticism of the government. The security forces summoned the mother and
two sisters of Amir Sheibani Zaveh, a civil activist detained in Vakil
Abad prison. They were summoned for questioning over their social media
activity. It appears to be an attempt to intimidate Sheibani's family
and silence them. A source close to Sheibani's family told IranWire, <Narges
Khasham Imampour, Amir's mother, was previously threatened by security
forces for speaking out about her son's condition on social media. They
warned that if she did not stop, Amir's punishment would be harsher.>
The source also revealed that Sheibani himself had been pressured inside
Vakil Abad prison to <shut up his mother.> The escalation of pressure
against Sheibani's family began two weeks ago, according to the source.
<Police Intelligence> first summoned Narges Imampour, accusing her of
<disrupting public opinion> and posting <a bloody fingerprint image to
criticize the elections.>
Imampour reported to the authorities and was informed of the charges.
However, IranWire found that the threats and summons have intensified
after the death of President Ebrahim Raisi. Security forces made
numerous calls to Imampour and her daughters. Following the news of
Raisi's death in a helicopter crash, at least 13 citizens and activists
who posted about it on social media were arrested in various Iranian
cities.>>

<<Overcrowding in Iran's Evin Prison After Shifitng Inmates
In a move that has raised concerns about prison conditions, authorities
at Evin Prison in Tehran have relocated political prisoners from Ward 6
to Wards 4 and 8. The transfers, reportedly conducted without the
prisoners' consent, have exacerbated overcrowding issues in Wards 4 and
8. Some cells in Ward 4 now house over 20 inmates, leading to a lack of
beds and forcing some prisoners to sleep on the floor. Prisoners
reportedly requested consolidation into a single ward but were informed
by officials that the security committee mandated the split placement.
Further concerns surround hygiene conditions in Ward 8, which is
reportedly plagued by a bed bug infestation. This issue is not new, as
the spread of skin diseases through bed bugs is a documented problem in
Iranian prisons, causing discomfort and health problems for inmates.>>

Iranwire - 27 May 2024
<<Iranian Lawyer Who Represented Protester's Family Gets Six Years in
Jail
A Revolutionary Court in Iran has sentenced the lawyer representing the
family of executed protester Mohammad Mehdi Karami to six years in
prison.
According to a report by the Human Rights Activists News Agency (HRANA)
on Sunday, the sentence was recently issued by the second branch of the
Karaj Revolutionary Court and communicated to lawyer Amir Hossein Kohkan.
Kohkan was convicted on charges of <assembly, collusion, and propaganda
against the Islamic Republic.> The lawyer was arrested in September last
year after being summoned to the Karaj Intelligence Department. Mohammad
Mahdi Karami was hanged on January 7, 2023, after they were found guilty
of killing a member of the paramilitary Basij force during
anti-establishment protests. His father, Mashallah Karami, was sentenced
to six years by the Revolutionary Court of Karaj on May 20. He was
represented by Kohkan. Mashallah Karami was given five years for
<assembly and collusion against national security> and an additional
year for <propaganda against the Islamic Republic.> >>

<<Political Prisoners Moved to Solitary After Protesting Others'
Transfers
Zartosht Ahmadi-Ragheb, a political prisoner held in Ghezelhesar prison
in Karaj, was sent to solitary confinement on Saturday after protesting
the transfer of another political prisoner. The Human Rights Activists
News Agency (HRANA) reported that the Prison Disciplinary Council moved
Ahmadi-Ragheb to solitary after he protested the transfer of political
prisoner Ahmadreza Haeri to solitary confinement. Ahmadreza Haeri, a
human rights activist and political prisoner, had been transferred from
Evin prison to Ghezelhesar prison along with other political prisoners.
Haeri was placed in solitary confinement in Ward 3 of Ghezelhesar prison
by order of the prison's General Director of Intelligence Protection.
According to IranWire sources, Haeri's protest of the conditions of
another political prisoner, Saman Yasin, led to his solitary
confinement. Zartasht Ahmadi-Ragheb is a firefighter and civil activist
who has been repeatedly arrested and sentenced to long-term
imprisonment. He was one of the signatories of the <14-person letter>
calling for Ali Khamenei's resignation in 2019. In March 2023, he was
arrested and beaten by IRGC intelligence forces while planning to
participate in protests condemning the poisoning of students.>>
