'The Human Rights Activists News Agency (HRANA) has released a report including statistical information on the situation of women in Iran from March 2022 to March 2023. According to the report, at least 3,953 women were arrested in Iran during the protests from September 2022 to March 2023. Hrana identified 1,019 arrested women, 160 of them were female university students. <It is estimated that at least 66 women were killed in Iran during the protests. These numbers show that women are not only being targeted for their activism, but also for their participation in peaceful protests. The arbitrary arrests and detentions of women demonstrate that the government is willing to use excessive force to silence dissent,> the report said.'

<<Dirty Revenge: Defiant Iranian Celebrities Targeted By Restrictive Measures
Iranian celebrities have been voicing their support for the <Woman, Life, Freedom> movement through their social media accounts, many of which have millions of followers. This has posed a challenge to the Islamic Republic, whose officials have blamed them for <fanning the flames of the riots.> Eight days after the September 16 death of Mahsa Amini in the custody of Tehran police, which triggered the on-going wave of anti-government protests, judiciary head Gholamhossein Mohseni Ejei declared that those who became famous <thanks to the support> of the Islamic Republic have <joined the enemy.> Ejei was referring to well-known sports figures, artists and other celebrities who had expressed support for the protest movement. Mehdi Yarahi, the singer and composer of the protest song <Sorud Zan,> published a decree on Twitter on March 13 showing that less than a month after the wave of protests kicked off, the judiciary banned several artists from having financial dealings. The measure targeted Yarahi, who defiantly said he was <satisfied with my crime,> and other famous artists including Asghar Farhadi, Keyhan Kalhor and Taraneh Alidoosti. The individuals listed in the decree had only published one social media post expressing sadness and disgust over Amini's death. Farhadi, an internationally acclaimed film director, took to Instagram to denounce the killing of the 22-year-old woman as a crime, while Alidoosti wrote, <Damn this captivity.> Kalhor also protested Amini's death on Instagram and expressed support for the <Woman, Life, Freedom> movement.
In the following weeks, these artists strongly reacted to the autho-rities' bloody crackdown on the protests, but their initial remarks were relatively mild. In an attempt to normalize the situation amid weeks of nationwide protests, the Ministry of Culture and Islamic Guidance in December threatened singers and music producers to be banned from leaving the country if they didn't release new songs.
By imposing travel bans and other restrictions, the Islamic Republic not only enacts revenge on defiant artists, but also tries to intimidate others who have not released new work or performed in public after the start of the protests. Sociologist Mehrdad Darvishpour told IranWire that repressive measures against celebrities are part of a strategy aimed at instilling terror and fear of revenge among Iranians.>>

<<Iranian Teacher's Rights Activist Hamrang Re-Arrested
Prominent Iranian teacher's rights activist and former political prisoner Zeinab Hamrang has been re-arrested by security forces in Tehran, her son says. Ehsan Seifi said his mother was detained on March 12 while she was leaving her house to go to the gym. Judicial and security institutions did not immediately give a reason for the detention. In a recent interview with IranWire, Seifi said he had been stopped and interrogated for hours by security forces in the northwestern city of Khoy ahead of a planned trip to Turkey.
Hamrang, a retired teacher and resident of Tehran, is an activist for the Teachers' Trade Union. She was previously sentenced to six years in prison on charges of <gathering and colluding with the intention of disrupting the security of the country> and <propaganda against the regime.> She was released from prison in October 2022 after serving more than two years.>>

<<Iranian Court Confirms Labor Activist Mohtadi's Six-Year Sentence
An Iranian appeals court has confirmed a six-year prison sentence for workers' rights activist Keyvan Mohtadi, his wife says. Anisha Asadollahi wrote on Twitter that the appeals court of Tehran province confirmed the sentence on March 14, and that her husband was <not included in the amnesty.> She was referring to a claim of the authorities that thousands of prisoners have been <pardoned> over past few weeks. <We are not afraid. The anger of oppressors is a sign of our resistance and resilience,> said Asadollahi, who was also arres-ted in the past for supporting workers' rights. Mohtadi, a translator and member of the Iranian Writers Association, was arrested on May 5, 2022, and transferred to Tehran's Evin prison. In January, the Tehran Revolutionary Court sentenced him in first instance to five years in prison for <collusion and gathering against national security> and one year for <propaganda against the system.> >>

<<Tag: The girl child
The girl child in Iran is the most innocent victim of the mullahs
Being a woman and a child, makes the girl child in Iran the most vulnerable under the misogynist rule of the mullahs since the rights of women and children are neither protected nor promoted in Iran.
The bill on the rights of children has been stalled in the parliament for years, just as the bill on violence against women was stalled for eight years, before being totally overhauled. The bill to increase the age of marriage for the girl child in Iran was rejected in December 2018 by the Legal and Judicial Committee of the parliament for containing <religious and social deficiencies> and for contradicting <the teachings of Islam.> The Iranian Constitution sets 9 the legal age of criminal accountability for the girl child in Iran and the mandatory dress code forces her to cover her hair since the first day of school at age 6. At least a quarter of Iranian students are forced to quit school every year, a large number of whom join the estimated 3 to 7 million child laborers. Drop-out of girl children, 6 years and older, is widespread particularly in the provinces of Sistan and Baluchestan, Khuzestan, Western Azerbaijan, and Eastern Azerbaijan. The girl child in Iran is also victim of substandard structures of schools and unsafe transportation in light of the irresponsible approach of education officials and staff. Every year, a number of young girls lose their lives while on the road to school, under a collapsed wall or ceiling, or in fire. Unsafe heating systems have also caused repeated poisoning of students. Institutionalized in the clerical regime's laws, the legal age of marriage for the girl child in Iran is 13 years, and she can be given to marriage even younger if the father and a judge decide that she is mature enough. Therefore, the rate of forced marriage of the girl child in Iran is rapidly growing.>>

<<Iranian Political Prisoner Asks Khamenei: Why Are You Afraid Of Referendum?
Prominent Iranian political prisoner Mostafa Tajzadeh has again expressed support for a proposed referendum that would pave the way for a democratic system in Iran. In an open letter dated March 12 and addressed to Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei, Tajzadeh also said that officials in Tehran's Evin prison confiscated his personal belongings and those of a co-detainee during a search of their cell.
Tajzadeh was arrested in September 2022 and later sentenced to five years in prison for repeatedly calling for structural changes in the country, as anti-government protests raged across the country.
Last month, Tajzadeh joined other political prisoners in backing a call by opposition figure Mir Hossein Mousavi for the <fundamental transformation> of Iran's theocratic political system. In a statement, the 80-year-old Mousavi, a former prime minister who has been under house arrest since 2011, called for a <free> referendum and the drafting of a new constitution. <Yesterday evening, for the third time in the past month, the prison inspectors, an agency under the supervision of your appointees, raided our cell in Evin prison. During this prolonged and unusual search, they seized some of my personal notes and those belonging to Dr. Saeed Madani,> Tajzadeh wrote in his open letter. Madani, a sociologist who has published several studies on social issues in Iran, including violence against women, child abuse, prostitution, and poverty, is serving a nine-year prison sentence. <Why are you so afraid of the proposal to hold a refe-rendum that you resort to such illegal measures in response to our support for Engineer Mousavi's statement?> Tajzadeh asked Khamenei. <Even after unjustly imprisoning your critics, why do you continue to violate their inalienable and basic rights in prison?> he added. Tajzadeh concluded his letter by saying that no pressure or attack will prevent him and other imprisoned critics from defending the basic rights and freedoms of the Iranian people.>>
